Asked about some specialty switches and they didn't have them. Lady said they would all be special Order and it would take 2 to 3 weeks. I'm n essence, they don't want to bother helping a customer get their product faster. Very dismissive and condescending. And I mean big time. I would never treat my customers like that. No one greeted me walking into the showroom. Albeit the associates were with customers but if you can look up long enough to make eye contact you can speak a brief greeting. Selection of lighting is great, overwhelming to be honest. I recommend you visit the website and have ideas before you visit the showroom for sure. read more

The never ending adventures of owning a home kept us busy this weekend with a trip to Metro Lighting in Brentwood. As we continue to slowly make our home feel like our own space, we decided to update a lighting fixture in our living room and add a floor lamp. Since we feel we have "graduated" from IKEA, we knew we needed to go somewhere with a bigger selection. Typically I avoid the Brentwood shopping complex where Metro Lighting is located. IT IS INSANE! Come on. Who thought it would be a good idea to put a Trader Joe's across from a Target. Apparently someone who doesn't drive, or is just incredibly sadistic. So pro tip when visiting Metro Lighting. Since the showroom is situated at the south end of the complex, you can access it from streets behind the building to avoid the chaos of the parking lot. The selection at Metro Lighting is impressive. They feature so many styles and so many selections within those styles. I love how they have the lights grouped by style throughout the store. It helps you navigate their showroom based on your personal tastes. If you you are like me you're going to gravitate to the gold, sparkly fixtures! And they have plenty. I do get a little bit of anxiety when shopping at Metro Lighting. Since there are SO many lights to choose from it is hard to visualize the lights in your own space. The other reason I get anxiety from this store is because of the finality of their sales. If you get the light home and it doesn't fit your aesthetic, whelp. You gotta make it work. They don't have the best return policy. We purchased a floor lamp that causes bulbs to burn out quickly and they wouldn't take it back even though it seemed there was an issue with the product. For the prices they charge, I wish there was a little more flexibility after you purchase fixtures. read more

Metro Lighting is my go to place for light fixtures. I've had excellent experiences with both the Brentwood and Manchester locations. My travels today took me to the Brentwood location in search of bedroom ceiling fans. Metro Lighting has an abundance of options, so it can be a bit overwhelming, but it's a specialty lighting store, so it's their niche to have lighting options above what the big box stores offer. Upon arrival, I had time to look around without being pounced on by a sales rep, that's a huge bonus for me. After a few minutes I was greeted by a sales rep (I completely missed their name), but they were able to get me exactly what I was looking for. I had area measurements for the rooms, but I didn't have height measurements, this sales rep was absolutely wonderfully patient as I called home to get this information. After I provided the critical room specifications, and style information, I explained my concern with lightbulbs (at one point there was a trend in home decor to have nonstandard bulbs in ceiling fans). The salesperson knew exactly what I was talking about, and we even had a chuckle over it. With the sales reps help, I was able to pick out four fans (competitively priced by the way), and they had them in stock!!! I DO NOT recommend METRO LIGHTING for any of your lighting needs. Dealing with METRO LIGHTING has been a nightmare and hope no one has to experience what I have had to. I placed an order 5 months ago with them, and they took my money for the order and I still don't have what I ordered. I called on 4 different occasions! The first call, I was told my order was lost, and that they would be sending a new one. Second call, I was told that the order wasn't lost, that it hadn't arrived yet. The last two times, I was promised both times to get a return call from a manager in regards to my order and neither time, did I receive a call. I am now sitting here without what I ordered, the money I paid for the order, and can't get answer to its current status or a refund. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE in my opinion, and hope that I can find someplace else to try and get the piece that I need. read more

My first visit was ok but I kept telling the Sales person I didn't think it would give off enough light. I was correct. So at this point it was too late to return the ceiling fan with lights. So I bought a second one. The second one I purchased from a sales rep who was just working there did the summer while attending Missouri state abs here dad worked at metro lighting, she was adorable, but the 2nd ceiling light sucks too. This place has a huge selection of lighting fixture and the staff are very helpful. The prices are not cheap, but the quality seems very high. They also are good for finding difficult bulbs. read more

About six years ago when I was getting ready to rehab my house, I stopped in here. They have absolutely beautiful lighting... Some very different pieces... But nobody could be bothered waiting on me. Everybody was clustered at the desk area in the center of the store. I walked out. I happened to take a little different route to Whole Foods today that took me right by Metro lighting. At least this time somebody did acknowledge my presence and direct me to the fan room. She said she'd come check on me but never did. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe she forgot. I did go through some catalogs and found some things I liked. While I don't necessarily want somebody hovering over me, I also don't like having to chase after salespeople. Again, they all seemed to hang out at the desk in the center of the store. I'm giving it two stars instead of one star for the fact that I was acknowledged. read more

I found Metro lighting recently. I need 1 ceiling light and 2 ceiling fans. I have a budget of 2500 to 3000. I went in the store and was impressed by the amount of inventory there. However, my opinion quickly changed after asking a woman in sales to help me. She had very little knowledge and didn't even know what a hugger fan (which is what I needed) was. After 20 minutes a man in sales came to the room helping a different customer. In the 5 minutes that I overhead I learned more about fans from him than I did in the 20 minutes I spent with the woman. Eventually she told me I'd be better off looking on the internet and ordering what I needed from a different company. Even though I loved the store I will not be back because I wanted help from someone that I thought would have more knowledge than me. In the end I wasted 2 hours between drive times and the time I spent there. read more

My wife and I stopped in here looking for lights for our new house. The staff was friendly, and there is a large selection. Most of the choices are quite eclectic, but there is something for everyone at the store. Despite the selection, we didn't end up buying anything. The prices were just very high. The worst experience EVER! Took us six months to get our light and it still was not correct. Then when we picked it up because it was paid for in full and didn't have a receipt they had no clue if it was paid for or not and argued with us because They had nothing on file. Our builder forced us to go with Metro lighting. Not only were they overpriced, but their materials were horrid and shoddy. The glass chimneys on the bathroom light fixture let go from the fixture due to the glue giving out. This then caused the bulb to dislocate from the fixture. Not something you want to happen over a marble countertop.I contacted Metro lighting and after giving me a weeks worth of runaround, Where I had to call multiple times, and did not receive any information back even after emailing photos and calling, even after I was promised I would receive a message back, they said maybe you should replace the fixture. I recently bought sconces for a bathroom remodel. I was waited on by Liz. She knows her stuff and was able to make recommendations from a catalog when I didn't see what I wanted. I was in a hurry for delivery, she even called me with UPS numbers do I could track. The next day. Sadly they arrived broken. I went there today with a notebook filled with information and details as to the type of lighting I wanted and questions to ask. I was prepared to make a substantial purchase. I had on a t-shirt and jeans and a beanie hat. I think the way I was dressed may have given the staff the impression that I wasn't as serious of a shopper as the elderly ladies in the store with designer purses. Insane amount of lights & interior decorating here. I saw a small part of it only cuz I took my parents here for some new kitchen lighting & I don't like light fixture shopping. The Swarovski lights were awesome. This is pretty much the only place that I've seen in St. Louis where you can buy a gorgeous $25,000 Swarovski crystal light fixture. If you need the ideas, come here & look. If you are going to get something here just be aware of how your ceilings are (vaulted or straight flat (180 degrees)). And not only that ask how to replace the light bulbs. Makes a huge difference between using a special tool & finding that hard to find light bulb vs simply screwing in a commonly used light bulb. Horrible customer service and relations. I went to the Chesterfield location on Saturday and after wandering around 15 minutes was finally greeted by Joni. She was going to check on a chandelier and matching pendant on Monday and call me. No call, so I called her. Told me the chandelier is no longer available. But it's still listed on manufacturer website. Told me she'd call them 9n Tuesday and call me. Again, no call so I called Joni. Confirmed not available. I asked about another fixture and requested pricing and more details on the finish. Pricing was ridiculous but was told if I found online they would match price. Great selection and service at Metro Lighting. I've been going there for years and have gotten good advice and help each time. Recently, I found (the salesgal pointed it out) a lovely ceiling fan. After I had it installed I bought two more since I liked it so much. It is small but mighty and it's waterproof so one went on the screened in porch and it looks great in every room. Plus, the salesgal told me about a great insert control to go right in the light switch socket and that works beautifully. read more

Showroom is absolutely gorgeous, and the service was impeccable! I read the previous reviews, and have to say... I was dressed in jeans/sweatshirt mom attire, and had 2 toddlers in tow. I had someone helping me right away, and she spent a substantial amount of time answering my questions and helping me find exactly what I was looking for. Tamara is the best! Bad customer service from indifferent sales associates. Hit or miss selection of lamp shades.

Although this Metro Lighting store has a nice selection of very attractive lighting and we did find what we were looking for (a ceiling fan with light to replace an existing one), I would STRONGLY caution anyone who makes a purchase here to take a photo of the advertised price of the item you are buying along with the item-particularly if you are told that they will need to ship it to you and you happen to live a good distance away. Long story short: the fan was displayed from a high ceiling complete with marbled glass shades, light fixture and five blades and a large sign stating a price that even with the higher sales tax in that area would have resulted in a total price of around $500-$515 and CLEARLY stating "AS DISPLAYED". Ok, that was a bit more than I had wanted to spend but my husband was agreeable. We had an appointment and had to leave so we had the salesman finish totaling the sale and email the receipt. The total was considerably more than expected but he had insisted that the light kit was an extra cost (even though the sign clearly stated "as displayed") and we did have buy a down rod so we dismissed that as an exorbitant charge by the manufacturer for proprietary items. A week later the fan and several boxes arrived, including the wrong glass shades. A phone call to Metro did get the correct shades on their way. When the electrician began to do that installation, there was no light kit with the fan shipment as I'd expected. When I called and spoke to another Metro employee as our salesman was not in on that day, I was informed that we had NOT bought a light kit (our bill was well over $700 and didn't include a light kit? Especially when their display sign clearly stated "AS DISPLAYED" and a price around $470. When confronted, the woman said she would go and look and "get back to us". A phone call a short time later informed us that they would be sending out a light kit but no mention of a refund of any money owed that was over-charged. The woman explained that Emerson Fans are priced by parts: motor, blades, light kit, down rod and that the advertised price was for the motor housing ONLY. Note: a fully functional fan was displayed, the price stated "as displayed" and yet once the customer decides to buy they end up with nearly $275+ additional charges of essential items? Classic underhanded dirty dealing IMHO. I wish I had never set foot in that store and I warn all who do "CAVEAT EMPTOR" LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!! read more

When I was unhappy with one of the fixtures Marty refused to exchange it and instead said that I should just purchase a new one from him. The service is terrible even to the point of being ignored at the counter, when one of the sales ladies walked up and put away catalogs instead of waiting on me. I was in the market for LED bulbs for my can lights. I did some research online and decided to go to Lowes in Maplewood commons. I asked an employee there some basic questions and they resorted to reading the information on the bulb's packaging. Um.. I can do that. Ended up going to Metro Lighting in the Brentwood Promenade.
