I needed a piece of single strength glass cut for a picture frame. I talked to a very polite person on the phone and was able to give him the dimensions of what I needed. Management change has definitely affected the quality of this store. I went in to get paint and no one in the store knew how to mix it. On another occasion went to get a cup engraved. They said nobody knew how to use the machine, they are often quite snarky. I heard a man ask about when popcorn machine was going to be fixed after being told it was broken. She told they were tired of cleaning it up so they weren't gonna fix it and she's tired of being asked. read more

Since March 2020 I have used this stores drive up service multiple times. Two of the times have been to exchange my propane tank for my grill. Both times I placed the used tank in my trunk with my credit card and the employees got me a new propane tank and ran my credit card without having to go inside. I have also picked up mulch, grass seed, and topsoil in this manner at this store. I just call ahead and make sure it is a good time for them. While not nearly as big as the other two chain brands what makes Ace special is their employees. Good luck even finding an employee for help at Home Depot or Loews much less finding one that knows what they're talking about. At Ace the employees not only know the answer and can offer advice to almost any query you might have they actually seek out customers to help. This store was not at all crowded the Friday after Thanksgiving. Ace is always the place for knowledgeable, personalized service and this location is no exception. The free popcorn near the entrance is a much appreciated--I know that I work up a hunger while shopping for hardware and household items. The selection is smaller than at a Home Depot or Loewe's but the converse is not having to wander aimlessly through the aisles and likely walk out frustrated or empty handed. This Ace location also sends out a birthday coupon with money off. Cute items near the cash register--think flavored jelly belly jelly beans and beanie baby beanie boos-- set this store apart from the usual run of hardware stores. read more

I had occasion to patronize Ace Hardware twice in a week's time. May 10, I needed grass seed. I know where the summer/seasonal items are: in the store adjacent to the door that goes into the garden area. I went there. Then I went an aisle down. As it happened, an ACE customer service rep approached me, B-I-N-G-O!! I told him what I sought. Well, of course, I was in the wrong aisle. It was just one over. But one over can be a MILE AWAY!! I told him I'd seen ads on TV about a Scott's grass seed that holds itself in rain and doesn't get splushed away in rain even on a slope. He knew exactly what I wanted. He showed me a container of grass seed. I said I'd need to do a second application, and he recommended the 10-pound bag. So that's what I got ($19.99). And I used the whole dang thing in ONE application. I COULD have inadvertently misrepresented the space that needed to be seeded. OR I could have been an over-achiever in seeding (I've never done this before.). On this trip, I also needed those flags on wire you put down to keep mowers or diggers from invading an area. The ACE associate showed me where they were -- numerous aisles down with hammers and other hand tools. I would NEVER have found those flags without the great assist from the ACE associate. They had packages of 20 flags, which wasn't gonna cut it. I got a package of 100 glo-pink flags for $12.99. Alright . . . I've used up the grass seed, and I figured May 17 I needed to seed again and water. I got two more 10-pound bags ($19.99 each) of grass seed. Put it down. Watered. And I used both bags of grass seed!! What the heck?!?!?!? I'm sure I'm over-seeding. I need to get one of those seeder things. There's a technical name for those yard helpers. read more

We spent the summer remodeling our house this year and probably visited this store at least once a week the entire summer as it is convenient. Exhausted from the remodel effort, we decided to scale back Christmas and my wife got a much smaller tree than we usually do. It was too small for our Christmas tree stand so I told her she should just go to Ace hardware and get a new one. This was 2 weeks before Christmas and when she couldn't find one there and asked, the smart ass employee told her "you snooze you lose". Treat my wife like an ass? We won't be going back. read more

Wanted to ask the manager a quick question while he was checking out a customer. He was a bit arrogant and I was unimpressed that a manager that has been there for 30 years can't multitask. I took offense with his condescending tone, so I left the merchandise and decided to go elsewhere. As I walked out into the parking lot, he yelled , "so you are going to be like that? ASSHOLE!" It was almost surreal that a manager of a business would be that blatantly unprofessional. I could not believe my ears. He ripped off his name tag so I couldn't get his name, then covered his face with his hands peek a boo style and ran out into the parking lot with a line of waiting customers. It was like dealing with a 5 year old. Needless to say, I will never go to any Rick's Ace Hardware nor recommend them to anyone. I have always found them to be understaffed, grossly overpriced and lower quality than the big box stores anyway. read more

I purchased 30 bags of gardening product to be delivered to my home today between 9:00AM and 11:00AM. They would call "when they were on their way." At 11:30AM - I called, because I had not had a call regarding delivery. The returned my call and notified me it would be another hour or hour and half at most. I called back at 1:05PM - only to be advised the delivery had been made. I had no phone call, no notice of delivery - and they have basically left the product sitting at one end of my driveway - along a busy road. They indicated they had knocked on the front door - but it can be hard to hear if you are at the rear of the house - but since they were calling when they were "on their way" - this was not a concern I had. Since they did not come in a timely manner - and did not call when they were "on their way." I had to cancel the person who was coming to do the yard work today - and now that product will need to sit out, at a minimum, of overnight. A simple phone call - as advised before delivery - would have resolved this entire problem. I am so disappointed in this delivery. I prefer using smaller, local franchises over the big box - but I may need to change my preferences. I usually buy a lot of stuff from this Ace - but I will move on. If folks would just do as they say - "call when on their way." I was never upset or rude because they were late - just a simple phone call - as indicated would have solved all of these problems! read more

Very helpful people there. You don't need to wait more than a minute for someone to help you. I was asking a question to an associate, and since he didn't know the answer, he grabbed someone who did. I got what I needed immediately. Try finding someone at HD or Lowes and it's hit or miss. Ace charges a few dollars more than big box on some item and same for others. But if I save time on every project and make fewer trips, Ace definitely saves me more $. When I was installing a bath cabinet, the water shutoff were took hold and leaked. I went to HD 4 times (yes, 4 times) because turned out the valves I got had been returned and they were all leaking. I even bought extra from HD but none of them worked. I was doubting my own skills since it had been ages since I replaced a shutoff valve. I went to Ace and lo and behold, the valves I got there worked. read more

Ricks is a nice old Ace Hardware store. It's got everything you need. I haven't had any problems the multiple times I've shopped here. The manager at this store was so helpful. I needed some screws for different things that needed to be fixed around my house. He was able to find everything I needed that the two big box stores were unable to do because they didn't carry some specialty screws. The manager even took the time to re-thread a piece of decorative hardware for my dresser so that my existing handle would still work. Thanks John. Appreciate your help. I no longer shop at either of the big box hardware stores, if Rick's does not have it on the shelf (which is rare) I can go to Ace.com and they ship what I need to the store at no additional charge. I like the fact that this is locally owned and managed. All of the folks who work there are friendly and know their business. It is hard not to love a store that provides great service. read more
