The original melt had great food and the absolute worst service imaginable. Today I popped in to melt revival since I was meeting friends next door for drinks. The staff were all super nice and attentive. I had high hopes. Those were totally dashed with the first bites of food. The hummus was watery and lacking significant flavor. The macaroni seemed to be missing the strong blue cheese that was supposed to be included. The buffalo cauliflower was large and boring. For a great version go to harvest. Ignore this item from melt. Melt has been on my list for more than a year and 1 trip to this place does not justify the experience. The reason being, entire menu is so interesting you want to try everything. On my visit I tried the chicken verde sandwich with side of red skin potatoes(which you can check out in the pictures). It is one of the best sandwiches I have had. I stopped in here for lunch with my family after spending the morning at the zoo. It's about 7 minutes from there. I love trying new places and a friend told me it was a healthier restaurant. We were seated promptly and our server was very attentive. We ordered the kids grilled cheese sandwiches, I ordered the pad Thai wrap and hubby ordered the avocado wrap. When the grilled cheese came out, my kids were perplexed that it had white cheese. When the server came to check on us, my 5 year old blurted that he wanted yellow cheese. I told her it was fine, but she insisted on having a yellow cheese sandwich made. It was really sweet and above and beyond. My kids enjoyed the chips and fruit, but they struggled with the sourdough bread on the grilled cheese because it was very chewy and tougher, which is the nature of sourdough. I tried it and it was delicious. However, I would recommend using a different bread that is easier for kids to eat. My pad thai wrap was delicious and I had it with the yummy vegan chili. I tried the avocado wrap too and it was good. Everything was fresh and excellent. I would definitely go here again and recommend it to anyone. It was a great experience! read more

This is my first visit in the new location. And although it is not as eclectic & charming as the original location it does nod to its roots in the use of reclaimed doors & other materials. The menu is more extensive & very gratifying! The buffalo Mac & cheese is a highlight! My stand by favorite the artichoke melt is just as creamy & delicious a ever. I tried this place for the first time yesterday with my work buddy. It was a pretty quick lunch, but I'm impressed, and I will be back! The place is really nice on the inside, very cozy yet modern. The color scheme is lots of cool calming blues and greens. Everything is very clean and bright. Everything was very casual, you can see some of the kitchen peeking out and I saw the cook talking over supply orders or something with our waiter. The girls at the bar seemed very friendly and we're chatting without being loud. You feel like you're in someone's home...I guess if someone lived in a fast casual restaurant. We came in and we're greeted instantly by a friendly gentleman. He was very accommodating when my coworker asked for a bigger table for her portfolio. He also took our orders and brought us our food. He was very polite and attentive. I like the menu size, it wasn't too fussy, but you still had great choices. I'm in love with their side choices btw! Side of hummus and chips, yes please!! Their cocktails sounded so good, but I sadly could not partake as I was working! Next time I come I'm definitely getting a fizzy whatever it was with the tequila. The food is so fresh and very good. I got the Pad Thai wrap with tofu and a side of red pepper hummus and tortilla chips. I don't think I've ever had a better hummus. It was light and fresh and the perfect balance of flavors. The wrap was great! The tofu is a generous portion, and cooked perfectly. That peanut sauce I'm there is great, and it had plenty of sprouts and cilantro too I'm pretty certain. I enjoy a place that has plenty of vegetarian/vegan options, and Melt has it in spades. The location is smack dab in the heart of Northside. Parking is either on street or private lot. The new space is much larger and comfortable than the former location but does lack the personality and charm and the really cool back patio. There are a few outdoor tables but its right by the busy intersection and bus stop so it's not an ideal scenario. Price wise, I'd say it is on par with most restaurants. The food quality was fine, nothing superior or exemplary, and the sandwich I had was ok and my wife's chili I sampled was good. Overall, I would go back but I am not going to make it a priority. The drink menu looked really nice so maybe I will have something form that next time. read more

We tried out their brunch last week because I was having a hankering for biscuits and gravy, and as a vegan that's hard to come by. It's time to give Melt a try once again. First it got bought out. Then, it reopened in The Gantry. The prices went up. They got a liquor license. And I went once. $12 for a sandwich? The grossest non-cheesy Mac n Cheese ever. And that was the first week. They went downhill fast. Constantly ran out of ingredients and was basically a giant shitshow. And then they got sold BACK to a Northside couple who have worked hard bringing it back up to par. It's not all the same menu. They don't quite have as many choices for breads, proteins etc but they seem to be working on a much more sustainable cost-wise menu. I'm still not super pleased that it's table service and not just order at the counter casual. But service was super great. I ordered my fav, the Rachel. But I don't like rye bread or turkey. So I asked for my usual pre-Gantry Melt substitution of chicken and sourdough. No sourdough bread but he suggested gluten free or flat bread. I got the flat bread. Great decision! It was the cheesiest, gooiest Rachel I've ever had. AND they have potatoes with curry ketchup back on the menu. The ketchup could use a tad more curry but YUM. My husband had the pad thai wrap, chips and salsa. As a former Tacocracy obsessive, he found the salsa to have a nice kick and reminded him of their salsa. No desserts for us but they sure did look tasty. Prices are around $11-12 for sandwich and a side but this time, we left full and happy! So happy to get to enjoy this great place again! The new location is beautiful and very popular. There was a wait when we arrived on a Saturday night, but seating was available still the bar. We enjoyed some old favorites from the menu and loved the new cocktail offerings. Anything with Molly Wellman's name on it is going to be delish. We weren't disappointed! Although there was a decent amount of people when we ordered our food at about 2:30pm, it wasn't busy to the point where it would justify waiting almost an hour for our food! And not once did someone stop by to ask 'how are things?' or say 'sorry for the wait'. If you're looking for fresh & tasty food, and have a lot of time on your hands and don't care about crappy service, then I would give it a try. Noticed on their menu they have a lot of vegetarian and even vegan offerings. Below is a quick review of the items our party had: Melted Sammies: ~ Tangy Tuna (tuna salad along with red onions, celery, tomato, Swiss cheese & lime cilantro dressing on sourdough) - The tuna salad was very good but the bread was so hard. Could've chipped a tooth if bitten at the wrong angle. ~ Tuscan Chicken (chicken, pesto, caramelized onion, sundried tomato & fresh romaine lettuce on focaccia) - This was very flavorful and my favorite of the 3 I tried. ~ Rachel (turkey, ruby kraut, Swiss cheese with a homemade tangy sauce on sourdough rye) - Not bad but not something I'd consider ordering again. The space is colorful, small, and broken up a bit, with dining in the front, in the hall, in the back, or on the patio. They'll also bring your food to you next door at Northside Tavern. I've always had friendly service here, both from the counter and kitchen folks about ingredients, substitutions, etc. So. Orders are taken at the counter. They give you a themed number card (Three's Company for us this time.) Iced Earl Grey tea? Mmm... Their appetizers are huge - we ordered a Mediterranean platter and I could have eaten that as a meal (and likely will next time we're back) - the pesto toast was delish and I'm a big fan of their white-people hummus (Google that, it's a thing). A tofu wrap with peanut sauce for me and a turkey wrap for the spouse - both tasted great and again, huge portions. We took half of our order home. Prices are super-reasonable, too. Melt is super funky/hip and adds to the coolness factor of Northside. It's a small cafe, with a unique personality and decor to match (if that makes sense? Home-y and comforting are better words...). If it's your first time here, I would suggest trying their (hot) sandwiches! My personal fave is the artichoke melt cause I have no idea how to cook artichokes, so I always try to order them when I can. I also tried their vegan mac & cheeze the last time I was here, and I will NEVER doubt fake cheese again!! From someone who adores cheese and all of the spectacular forms it comes in, this dish was PDD (pretty darn delicious). Not a huge fan of chili either, but theirs is definitely full of flavor and hearty! I haven't been to many vegetarian places, but Melt is one of the best around! I've eaten and reviewed here before, but last night I tried a new sandwich that was absolutely delicious so I had to write again!I I get my sandwiches without bread, so they serve it on a bed of greens. It had smoked turkey, olive tapenade, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers and provolone cheese. All of these ingredients made for a delicious flavor combination that I am now in love with! They give you a very decent serving of turkey slices and that cheese on top looked as if it had been put under the broiler because of it's perfect melted and crispiness. For my side, I tried the roasted potatoes. They had a bit of a crunch on the outside and were soft and warm on the inside. I also ordered my favorite curry yogurt sauce to dip them in. When we decided to take a long weekend in Cincinnati and try new things, I found three vegan/vegetarian restaurants I was interested in. Melt sounded good and was in a part of the city I hadn't been to before. It was SO good and I will definitely go back to try more of their creations! The front of the place is small and you order from the counter. There were more tables in the back, but it was still pretty small. We had a group of five and were able to snag a table big enough for us in the front. While we were waiting for the food to come out we saw that Guy Fieri had been there and I had even higher expectations than I did before. The food did not disappoint! I got the Avocado Wrap (vegan style) and a vegan chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache. I was in heaven! the wrap had tons of filling and excellent blend of flavors. The cupcake was simply divine. I wish I had gotten one to-go! The rest of our party got a mixture of vegetarian and meat items and they were all very pleased with the taste. There was an issue with the service. The machine that prints the tickets ran out of paper and they lost two of our groups orders. So three of us ate while the others waited and waited. My husband and I stopped by here on a road trip, which required some research ahead of time to find decent veggie-friendly restaurants along our route. You order at the counter and then seat yourself. We chose to sit out back, despite the bugginess. My only real complaint is that the service was super slow. They warned us it would be over 30 minutes until we got our food (after we'd ordered and paid), but we couldn't quite figure out why because there was only a party of 6 ahead of us and most of the tables were empty. Our server only came by the one time to drop off our food. That said, my food - the greek salad and artichoke melt - was fantastic. My husband's choice - the lingo with a side of chips and hummus - was ok but he was disappointed he didn't order what I did. Over all, I'd say the food options are great, but the quality is more coffee shop level than restaurant-like. I think it would have been more appropriate for lunch than dinner. The area was very cute, full of interesting and hip looking shops mixed in with old barber shops and the like. We enjoyed strolling down the street afterwards. Staff do care about your experience. 08-17 update: Original owner sold restaurant to new ownership. And they have moved a block away from original store. New restaurant is nicer, big bar but for me I miss my old storefront restaurant, I loved the old eclectic furniture and vibe. New restaurant has absolutely NO Personality! Old restaurant; employees were more like family, that place I come to for years feeling good and safe being there. New spot, I immediately felt that commercialism rather than community gathering- very theme like. Honestly I just hated it and was disappointed. Yes, I felt a mistake was made not having my original restaurant. Food practically taste the same, smaller portions, even after ordering extra toppings my sandwich was much smaller than original restaurant. My wife agreed her dinner was smaller and some ingredients did change like Mac N cheese, noodles were traditional larger and spinach was missing from bowel. We both felt rushed by waitress to give up the table. And that has never occurred with original restaurant. I wished I'd never return after new ownership. Something else, I have notice after Asians screwed up there restaurants after getting into commercialized sauces, and menus there restaurants decline and they've began buying out American restaurants and doing the exact same stupid commercialization to American traditions.
