You might think this pizza had too many toppings but I assure you it did not. The ricotta was some of the best I've ever had on a 'za. The crust was light and airy. It had good crisp. We had a slice of pepperoni, the confit wings, and the meatballs. The first two were great, particularly the spicy garlic sauce. It's like a spicy garlicky chimichurri. It is amazing. The meatballs came out cold the first time, but it was no big deal to have them re-fired and they turned out incredible. Probably some of the best meatballs I've ever had. My buddy said this was one of his favorite bars and discovered that tuesdays are game night, which includes a handful of people who play Magic the Gathering every week. Since we're nerds, we decided to visit on the following tuesday. For food, I ordered the Blue Beasters Chamwich, the worst part of which was having to say the name aloud. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the sauce was spicy and creamy. It came with a side of homemade chips that were quite good as well. Some of my friends got stromboli, wings, fries, and cinnamon sugar dough knots. Reviews were all positive. After years of generally pleasant dining and drinking experiences at Chameleon, this evening's less than stellar visit leads me to conclude that... "No. Chameleon, tonight, you have lost two customers. The completely unnecessary customer service faux pas is a deal breaker." There are plenty of other spots in the area where you can finish fully paid-for drinks without being pestered or rushed out, especially when your closing time is nowhere near the 2:30am time your D-5 permit allows for. I don't know what kind of customer "no-service" training the bartender on duty received from James Swafford and Susan Coan, or whoever is in charge of Chameleon's day-to-day management, but having worked in bars and restaurants for decades--longer than this employee has been alive--you don't take drink orders if you plan to kick people out 15 minutes later. Honestly, the whole situation felt surreal, and I was appalled by the lack of basic courtesy and respect. Around 12:02 a.m., she essentially told my girlfriend and I we had to leave because on Mondays they "close at midnight." Fine, but we'd already ordered and paid, and I estimate we had about 5 minutes of additional beer and wine consumption time left IF we did so hurriedly. We don't chug our drinks... we enjoy them at a civilized pace--and any decent place allows for that. This kind of behavior from someone in a service role is unacceptable. Sure, owners can run their businesses however they choose, but in the bar and restaurant world, you allow paying customers a reasonable amount of time to finish consuming what they've bought. The one and only bright spot in our Chameleon visit was the kitchen staff. read more

Chameleon is a solid pizza option in Northside - my only complaint is they don't open till around 4 PM or later. Pizza slices are $3-$4 each, and you can pick your crust flavor: Cajun, Greek, Garlic, Cooler Ranch, BBQ, Peppered, or House. You can choose from these same seasonings for your Fries ($4), too! I would definitely order take-out from there more if they were open earlier, but they're a nice indulgence when the timing works out. Chameleon is a good dive bar. Cheap drinks. This is also a good place for music. No frat boys. Really comfortable place to hang out. It's not a pub as much as it's a bar. It's best bet is drinks. There is pizza. It's not particularly good but it's not bad. The cocktail menu is the best menu. I had the raspberry lemonade. This is about $5 for a glass, and it's stiff. It's a chilled atmosphere. By the taste of these wings, I'm shocked I had never been here. From the dim lighting to the local regulars, Chameleon definitely qualifies as a dive. We ordered a couple beers, slices of pizza, and wings. For the wings, we went with the "Chameleon Wings" with the house seasoning.Forget the blue cheese/ranch, these bad boys were delicious all on their own. They had been fried in fat and had tons of flavor, but were almost too rich to enjoy too many of them. The pizza was just okay for me and was a little too greasy for it's own good. A few beers more though, and perhaps I would have reveled in it. There was enough grease on the pizza that I dabbed it with a napkin (and I'm not that kind of person). I ordered the greek crust on the pizza, I didn't notice much of a difference. This was the fifth stop on my Northside Pubcrawl and was the only bar out of the 6 locations to be able to make my favorite drink! The others did not have the ingredients. This location was pretty cool! They had several rooms that you walked through to get to the back patio. While hanging out there, I had a quick chat with a small group (not from my crawl) sitting at another table as the patio was practically empty. The group ended up being with the main event (comedian!) of the night. It was great! This was also a great location for another group photo during our crawl as the entrance is unique. More tables, chairs fill the grungy space with broken down booths on the far wall. Past this space, you come to a buzzer and the door to access the kitchen where orders are taken. Food: 5/5 I never really knew what to expect from Chameleon as the place is just moments from my apartment and I was looking for a quick bite one night. The locals welcomed me and soon the entire menu had been explained with many strong suggestions given on what to order. I've been back plenty of times, too many to count, and I can say honestly everything they make is a treat. My favorites: New York Style Pizza Pie - Half cheese and half veggie of the week. The dough is tossed to an incredible thinness celebrating exactly what makes New York pizza so delicious. Lightly layered sweet sauce sleeps beneath the right amount of cheese and once baked delivers a delicate, crispy yet soft bite. I typically gravitate towards savory, meaty dishes but the veggie combinations are always delicious. This week was mixed greens, onion, radish, avocado puree, and ricotta. Boneless Chicken Wings - I guarantee you have not experienced chicken like this. Brined for days and then heavily battered and fried, this chicken is well seasoned and so delicate and tender that it just falls apart. My favorite sauce is the "loud" which seems to be roasted and pureed habanero peppers. The sauce is incredible and will blow your top. I love a restaurant that isn't scared to deliver heat to the customers who crave it. Drinks: 5/5 Small selection of staple beers on draught with a couple rotations. A sizable collection of bottles and cans to choose from as well as delicious, simple cocktails which are properly boozy. I stick with Guinness or one of the rotating brown ales. The beer is perfectly cold and the taps seem to run clean because the head on my Guinness is always picturesque. Chameleon is a top local joint hiding in plain sight. The atmosphere is friendly, the drinks cold and properly poured, and the simple yet handcrafted food is delicious. Yummy in my tummy! We stopped here because we were craving chicken wings. I really love a sauce (ask anyone who knows me) and the menu drew me in with the promise of alllllll the sauces you can order! And it did not disappoint. There are plenty to choose from! COVID-19 Update: Did someone say shower curtains? When you walk in, you'll realize you are surrounded around shower curtains. Could you imagine if my Yelp reviews included shower curtains last year? You would never believe it. Lol. What a year. Anyway, Chameleon is doing all they can to keep us safe! You order at the bar and find a place to sit and wait for food. There is also a separate space where you can pick up orders. Lastly, there's a patio (with a fireplace!) outside where you can eat safely away from others. I want to give it 3 stars because when the food is done well it's good. It's a late night place that's open when you need it to be. However, anytime you order pickup or delivery something is wrong. I've eaten in and had good experiences with the food and the atmosphere. I'm leaving a review because this has become a consistent issue. We aren't at the point of just never ordering there again but to the point where we feel like we should just warn people to check their pickup order before they take it home. There was even a period of time where they gave me normal buffalo wings when I paid for the confit chameleon wings. That's an up charge that I'm paying for that is just too much of an inconvenience to go back and say something about. Just do better and you'll keep consistent customers. Gosh I hate to do this. The 3 stars are for the drinks and entertainment. I had a spicy boi. It was perfectly spicy and flavorful. Of that was our night I would have said 5 stars. BUT...Our food was bad. The wings that I was looking forward to were slimy and gross. I couldn't eat them. The thought of them still makes me nauseous. The fries were crispy, hot and greasy ( that's a good thing). My husband who eats anything and everything couldn't eat the wings so got a slice of pizza. The sauce is sweet. I just got back from New York and I've been looking all over Cincinnati for something comparable to NY style pizza. I ordered online for pickup through a link on their website. I got the pie with half cheese/half veggie. The size of the pizza, the texture of the crust, stretch of the cheese, sauce-flavor, etc. was all perfect. You guys are doing something right. The pizza was fantastic. I'm absolutely going to return. Tip: I'm a petite guy, and I was able to eat 3 (1 is what I can typically handle) and that's not because the slices were small. It's a 20inch pie, the slices are huge. The pizza is just that good and I couldn't stop myself. If you think you can eat more than a single slice I would just get the full pie. A nice friendly bartender who answered my questions and helped me through the menu since I never been to this bar before. However, the food was STILL so bad that I had to give a one star. Two major gripes for the food. 1. Took entirely too long to come out the kitchen. I ordered 20 wings and while I was not watching the clock I know I was there too long. 2. The food was crazy salty. I have no idea how buffalo and BBQ sauce could come with such and overwhelming salty taste but I simply could not eat it. To add insult to injury when I tried calling the phone was the wrong number on both yelp and their own website. I was not in a position to go back down to get a refund. read more
