Did you know 2,500 small, independant pharmcies closed forever in 2025? Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM's) are not paying. They stand between customers, pharmacies, and medical insurance companies. A CVS or Walgreens has lots more leverage than, let us say the former Fairmont Pharmacy at Central Ave and Camelback Road. They were not getting paid by PBM's. Speaking of CVS, in 2025, my health insurance informed me my usual medications were required through CVS mail services. I now get my monthlies from a robot pharmacy near Chicago. Sweet D has been talking about visiting Melrose since Fairmomt closed. Being a stubborn guy, we never came in until April, 2026. I always need Cal Mag Zinc, Potassium, various stop the runny nose, etc. supplements. Plus a cool gift now and then. Melrose has all these, plus any out of the ordinary meds I may need. And...Our familiar faces from Fairmont found a new home. This is outstanding. I do not want thousands of small, independant, cool local pharmacies, family businesses, to be crushed by unbridled capitalism. Capitalism needs a bridle, starting with taxing obscene profits, like the $30,000,000 A MINUTE! being made by Immense Oil as the Strait of Hormuz is shut down and our President keeps his campaigning promise to deliver $100,000,000,000 if The Industry supported his re-election with $1,000,000,000. I really wanted to like this pharmacy. I had everything at Fairmont Pharmacy including my compounding prescription. Then when I switched over I was told they didn't take CIGNA insurance so the non-compounding prescriptions they couldn't fill. I moved to Camelback Compounding and Walgreens. My husband, on the other hand, gave them a chance. It's been a nightmare every time he needs a prescription. Today's doozy was, they could not find the prescription they had just told him over the phone they would fill. We were spoiled by Fairmont where "everyone knew your name" when you walked in the door and the script was ready. After quite some time Melrose refilled the prescription and he went to pay for it and lo and behold, they found the original prescription. Someone needs to get in there and get them ORGANIZED. Until that happens I don't see improvement being made. read more

I transferred my prescription to Melrose in 2022 and I've never had a bad experience here! Everyone is polite and professional. The pharmacy itself is beautiful and historic. My medication was out at Walgreens. Every Walgreens was out. Luckily I called Melrose pharmacy and they had just what I needed in stock. I really lucked out. It was my first time going to Melrose Pharmacy and it's such a cute Pharmacy. They have a fun storefront with the cutest items. I bought a couple things besides my medication. Update: they previously lied and said my doctor never called in an RX in so there was nothing for them to "fill." Annoyed, I then moved all of my business to Walgreens. When Walgreens tried to fill my Rx, they told me Melrose told Walgreens that Melrose had just filled my Rx and so it couldn't be filled again. Clearly Melrose was lying. How could they represent to me that they never received my doctor's RX order and then represent to Walgreens they already filled it so it couldn't be filled again? Ridiculous. After leaving my review yesterday, I got a long message through yelp, supposedly from the owner, Teresa or Lydia. They tried to explain the issues they were having, however. Yesterday I called once again to verify if my prescriptions were ready (or two month supply). I was told one of them was ready, and after discussing it with them that I had told them to do both refills. They told me that the second one could be ready at 5:30 that day. I told them I would come in on Saturday.. so my husband drives down there on Saturday only to be told that there's no prescriptions ready to pick up! So my husband left and called me from the car I made him go back inside and I explained through my husband's phone and I was assured one month supply was ready. The second month would be ready 530 Friday. In the end, it's a good thing. I had him go back in because one of the month supply was ready. The second month supply still had not been made. So my reasoning, for purchasing two months supply at once is it is quite a drive for us and I really wanted to avoid the extra gas and the time it takes to go down there two times. The owner also told my husband she doesn't ever remember conversing with me so who in the world sent me a message through yelp?! so in the last 24 hours, I took my review from three stars down to two stars due to what happened today and the obvious discombobulation that occurs at this pharmacy. If you're looking for a pharmacy that does compounding and you don't wanna deal with trying to get a prescription for multiple months and even when you called to make sure it's ready and are assured it is but then get there and find out it's not or that people at the front desk just don't know where to look. (who knows what their problem is). I suggest going elsewhere, even if you have to drive even farther. read more

The staff is incredibly rude and condescending, particularly Adam. On more than one occasion I have called to confirm that the medication I take is either in stock or can be ordered (I call a couple days ahead of time, as they have instructed me to do). The staff has confirmed that they will order it and that the RX will be filled as scheduled. When I have arrived to pick it up, the staff informs me that they didn't ordered it and it will be a couple of days until my RX will be filled. This has happened 3 times in 18 months. This past week, I spoke with a member of the staff who told me my medication would be filled on July 1st because I had picked up my last RX for this medication on June 3rd. When I attempted to pick up the RX on July 1st (as I had been told it would be ready on July 1) I was informed it hadn't been ordered and that it would be ready for pickup on July 3rd. I spoke with Adam today to ask why this occurred and he was extremely rude. He sarcastically and condescendingly offered that I could come to the pharmacy at 9a on July 3rd and sit and wait for my RX to be filled. Completely unprofessional. When you frequently mess up your customers prescriptions (or give inaccurate information), and they are frustrated because it has happened yet another time, maybe the best course of action is to apologize, or at least show some empathy instead of stoking the fire with rude and inappropriate sarcasm. I cannot recommend Melrose Pharmacy enough. It has been my go-to pharmacy since I moved here from Manhattan years ago. I have never experienced a glitch and appreciate their dedication to service and kindness. There is always someone willing and able to thoroughly respond to my questions and promptly fill a Rx and they're terrific about handling insurance. Also, last week, I had to go to the ER and the physician on call sent over a Rx that the pharmacist decided not to fill because 1. he looked at my history and what the doctor had prescribed concerned him greatly as he felt she had gotten the wrong name and what she ordered could put me at great risk; and 2. her dosage made no sense. He carefully explained this to me and as we discussed it became clear she had miswrote and had he simply filled it, well, things could have gone quite, quite wrong. I'm grateful beyond words. There is no other pharmacy in Phoenix as far as I am concerned. read more

LONG BEFORE Covid (since 2016), I have never had one transaction with them go smoothly. Common Issues: 1. Not run thru insurance despite you specifically telling them to run it thru ins when you initiate the rx request, and despite that same med having been covered by your ins thru them in the past (which should show up on your computer profile they have on you). Excuse: Most compounded rxes are not covered by ins, so we automatically DON'T run them thru ins. Response: Untrue these days. And if this were true, why would they not mention that to you at the time you told them to be sure and run ur rx thru ins at the time you initiated the rx request... 2. Failure to text you or call when your prescription is ready. This requires you to call them every few days to check. 3. Failure to update their system with your doctor's new fax number, despite you giving it to them. This resulted in my request for a certain refill to be delayed by several days since they were using a defunct fax number, and my dr was claiming they received no fax. By calling my dr and Melrose several times, I finally figured out the problem. Some of the lower echelon new employees always seem like they are "out of it." Even when different new employees are hired. Remember Carlton the Doorman. THOSE are the types they like to hire. Today was a doozy. I got a bogus text saying an rx was ready -- but I ordered no rx. So I called and they said it was Estradiol cream, which is only good for 30 days. I said I already got that on 7/10/20. I asked if they had me on auto-refill, bc I never asked for that, and even if it was on auto-refill erroneously, it had already been 47 days...not 30. She didn't know the answer. I asked if it was run thru ins. She said yes. I said what is the cost. She said $20. I said that sounds lower than the cream I picked up on 7/10/20, and she said yes, that had been $30 on 7/10/20, but today it was $20. I asked why it was less. She didn't know. I said I would pick it up then since it's ready and it's cheaper now. She put me on hold then came back and said the rx is not in the Bin, so the whole thing was fiction. I asked a supervisor to call me back. SHE said their system has a glitch (which they evidently know about and haven't been able to fix yet) which doesn't show it when an rx has already been picked up so it keeps trying to fill it, AND that my 7/19/20 cream was actually $45 (so the first person didn't get THAT right either). I really try hard to shop and support local and small businesses. That being said, I have always had problems with Melrose Pharmacy and am thinking about supporting Metier Pharmacy in Arcadia. TLDR version: Don't send your prescriptions to Melrose Pharmacy. The first time was checking them out to see if I could get my prescription switched from a big box pharmacy to this small, cute, local pharmacy. When I called to ask how much the prescriptions would cost with my insurance, I got the runaround from the man on the phone, and then he said he would check for me and put me on hold. He never came back and that was that. My prescriptions are still with the big box pharmacy and at least they don't let me down. Just recently my husband had surgery and had his prescriptions sent to Melrose Pharmacy. The hospital sent the prescriptions over at 9am when he went in for surgery and said they should be ready to pick up on our way home from the hospital, around 12:30pm. The chain of events was: (1) Thursday: stopped at Melrose Pharmacy on the way home and prescriptions weren't ready, said they would call/text by the end of the day when they would be ready, never heard from them so had to call them at 3pm and prescriptions had to be ordered so they would be in the next day at 12pm, (2) Friday: called Melrose Pharmacy at 1pm and they did not answer, called again at 2pm and they said the prescriptions would be ready at 3pm, went to Melrose Pharmacy at 3pm and they gave me 1 out of 3 prescriptions and said "okay, thanks, bye!" while I had to let the girl know that we also needed (very badly, surgery and all) the other 2 prescriptions, she went to go check and came back and said that they would have to be ordered and wouldn't be in until Monday, (3) Monday: go back to Melrose Pharmacy to pick up prescriptions and they are not able to get the other 2 prescriptions in the amount that was prescribed, so they have to give us 1/2 the amount (they were creams). For the love of all that is holy and good, I felt like this was a never-ending saga to get my husband much-needed prescriptions after his SURGERY! Needless to say, I am sad that they are so disorganized but they really need to up their game when they are dealing with health needs, but I will never again support this business. read more

I understand difficulties due to dealing with Covid, but Melrose pharmacy is doing a particularly bad job of it. I will spare the details, but suffice it to say that they have some staff that seem to be unconcerned about their patients' welfare. They are disorganized and inefficient. Before Covid, I was once handed another patient's prescription; when they rang it up and I noticed the price was way off, I noticed that the wrong name was on the medicine in my hand. I've been here a couple times and while it's really quaint I've never thought it was exceptional but it is a compounding pharmacy which is a key value prop. I went today to fill a script for L-Magic Mouthwash (benadryl, lidocaine, mylanta, and prednisolone) the doctor prescribed. The pharmacy tech was fine, entered all my info, then I asked the cost. He checked and came back 'it's $100'. I said OK and walked out the door and then did heavy reflection time, googled 'compounding pharmacies near me' and called Phoenix Pharmacy. Liz answered and when I described the script and asked a price she said around $25. I went back in the door at Melrose said I changed my mind and got my script back. I drove to Phoenix Pharmacy and it was $32 vs. $100 at Melrose. That pretty much sums it up. I will drive east instead of north for compounding needs. read more

I called to get information about some medication needed for my pet who just had surgery. Mary answers the phone and she was literally the rudest and most snottiest person I've ever dealt with. She acted like I'm supposed to know everything and like she didn't want to help me. I explained to her that have never had to do this before and she still acted like I should know everything. I'm stressed out because my pet almost died last night and the last thing I need is someone being flat out rude. Maybe you should train Mary on how to have empathy and basic customer service skills so she can do her JOB properly. Melrose Pharmacy is my go-to pharmacy. Not only is it in my neighborhood, it is independently owned and operated by Teresa Stickler. Her and her husband Kurt are people who care about the community. The fact that they provide a level of service that their chain store competitors can only dream of is a is the icing on the cake. They are also lightening quick, dispensing most prescriptions while you wait. Moreover, they are a FULL service pharmacy, they also offer delivery (handy when you feel like you are on the verge of death) and useful recommendations on the pros and cons on a on non-prescription drugs and vitamins (often recommending the lower priced generic brand). In addition, you can find a wide variety of homeopathic products, as well as a selection of snacks, books and small gifts. Even if you don't need to get a prescription filled, it's worth a visit to check out the retro interior and grab and grab a vintage bottled pop and candy. Better yet, stop by on a First Friday when the pharmacy features live music, and frequent art shows in the studio in the same complex. read more

I called in a refill and a transfer from another pharmacy eight days ago. The transfer was completed in 2 days. I'm on day 8 and still waiting for the refill. Since Friday, which was day 3 after I called in the refill, I have come into the pharmacy to request the status, left a voicemail, and sent a text. I have received no response from the pharmacy. Even though this is the closest compounding pharmacy to me, I will be transferring my prescription as this service is completely unacceptable. And it's a monthly refill, so it's not like the pharmacy had to special order the ingredients! Melrose Pharmacy in the past has been reliable but lately they have been sloppy and appear to care less and less about their customers. In the last few months I've had prescription refills not properly sent out to my doctor, prescriptions have been lost, I have been shorted multiple times on prescriptions with an IOU. The final nail in the coffin of this once good pharmacy is that a good feature they once had, a charge account, is being limited more and more. Even though I've been someone that has paid their bill every month, even living paycheck to paycheck, barely getting by, I've been told they can no longer go past their ever shrinking "allowable" charge with the excuse that some do not pay their bill. I've been going to this pharmacy for 3 years and have been a consistent, reliable customer yet there is no flexibility or caring on their part for my financial situation and the fact that I need the charge account because I barely get by as is, 30-40 dollars (which is what my prescriptions usually come to every month) is a lot of money when you barely scrape by month to month. Ever after calling and talking to an employee there, I was still basically told they will not be flexible even though I stated my next step was to regrettably take my business elsewhere (after paying my balance of $16 and my last remaining prescriptions) which is an indication they apparently no longer want my business, The next step will be to take my prescriptions elsewhere, I may not get a charge account, but when a place is already threatening to cancel it, what is the difference? It is too bad because they have good people working there, but they appear to be losing site of customer needs, especially a customer that has been loyal even with various issues. read more

I started coming here three years ago because I wanted to "buy local." Back then, it was smaller and the service was great. Now, their service is awful. I have the same prescriptions and have them "supposedly" set up for auto refill. However, every single month for the past couple of years that I come in to pick them up, either part of them are not even ready or the prices are wrong. Each different person (including the owner!) promises me that it will be fixed next month. But it is never ready and I have to wait. And all I get are excuses that their computer software doesn't work or it got jammed in the printer instead of taking responsibility. Well, I'm tired of excuses and have finally decided to take my business elsewhere. Obviously, no one here wanted to take ownership of this problem and follow up to make sure it gets fixed. It just goes to show that this place has gotten too big and too busy (the owner is hardly ever there) and they just don't care about the individual. I begrudgingly filled my compounded prescriptions at Melrose Pharmacy for over a year before becoming so fed up I couldn't take it anymore. The problems started small enough that I didn't mind so much - prescription not ready when I got there, very slow check out and spotty customer service. After a few times of the Rx not being ready when I arrived, I started calling ahead to see if it was ready. 3 times in a row I was told that it wasn't ready because they hadn't heard back from my doctor. When I checked with my doctor, my doctor's office said they had spoken with Melrose. Then, I moved and Melrose offered to mail my prescriptions across town. The problem is they didn't mail them and they sat in the bin waiting for me to pick up until I called to find out what the problem was. That occurred 2 times. I spoke with the Manager who said she'd rectify it. It happened 2 more times. The end all was when they mailed a prescription to me and the expiration date on the medication was already past. I called and they apologized. I asked how this could happen because someone had clearly initialed the bottle, leading me to believe that it had been checked. They had no answer. But I was told a new bottle would be mailed that day. Later that day, someone from Melrose called to get my credit card information because they needed to charge me AGAIN for the prescription. I explained I wasn't going to pay for it because I had already paid for the expired drug that I couldn't use. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. You need to be able to trust your pharmacy. Even a small mistake can be fatal to someone. I have no faith in Melrose and have found a new pharmacy that is far more professional. read more

Based on reviews from my fellow Yelpers I decided to switch from Walgreen's to Melrose Pharmacy. I went in earlier this week to drop off my prescription. Upon entering the pharmacy I felt I was transported into an old fashioned drug store. The whole layout of the store reminds of something you might see on "Leave It To Beaver." There were a few people ahead of me, but once I was greeted the service was very friendly. Since it was my first time getting a prescription filled they got all my info and told me my order would be ready the next day. I didn't get a chance to look at everything they offer in the store, but looks like most of the things you can get at Walgreen's or CVS, plus some great stuff like bottled soda, aroma therapy oils, home made soaps... So far I am very happy that I switched to Melrose and look forward to continue to use their services. Sure, it's easier to use Walgreen's or CVS because there is one on every corner in just about every town, but I appreciate the friendly and helpful service that Melrose provides. read more

While I would like to give this local pharmacy 5 stars, I simply can not. Switching to a local pharmacy turned into a disaster. First the new person taking my rx took so long to type everything in that she figured I couldn't wait to pay and told me I could pay the next day when I picked things up. That's fine-ok. Odd, but ok. Then I get a call saying that my date of birth I gave them doesn't match what my insurance carrier has. really? because that's never been an issue in filling an rx anywhere else. Then i get that mess sorted out (I was right, my insurance has the date of birth correct) and the rx "goes through" and Melrose offer to call when its ready! Awesome. Then, not so awesome, I confirm that the two rxs I have are injections and that they will be filling the third prescription i gave them for the syringes. I then get asked if I recall what size and type those syringes are. I tell her that no, I don't and thats why there is another prescription with that information in their possession. She sounds confused by this. Not a good sign. To complicate things further, there are two sizes of syringes and I'm hoping when I get these they can remind me of which needle goes with which and can tell me how much to inject of each, but that might be asking for too much. Sadly, I think trying to switch to a local pharmacy might be where I choose not to "shop local" which is disappointing.... read more

This is a fantastic pharmacy and I have never had anything less than stellar experiences here. They really go out of their way to make sure the patient gets taken care of... gotta love that. When I lost my insurance they got me a lowered rate for my birth control. When my fiance got a really nasty case of poison ivy, they let me take care of the entire transaction while he lay in an oatmealy tub. Now, since I'm not reviewing my benefits, I'll spare you my opinion that HOLY SHIT I HAVE THE BEST BENEFITS EVER OMG LOL !1!1!!!11, and I'll tell you that my AWESOME new doctor directed me toward this pharmacy... because he is AWESOME. (benefits are kind of a whole new world for me. it's a really convenient world, and I get really excited about modern conveniences, so, there's that.) Melrose Pharmacy has the most charming layout and functions just as any CVS or Walgreen's would (except I wouldn't expect Melrose to turn down my birth control script because of the pharmacist's ethics, like our Mormon friend Walgreen's), but more charming. They also sell fun little extras, like essential oils, incense, chatchkis, and the like. They're very friendly people, accessible and knowledgeable. I am so happy that I switched from Walgreens to this cute, local pharmacy! The staff is very friendly and actually remembered me by name. Last time I came in here I had a problem with my insurance and two different staff members tried to help me, and when the problem wasn't solved (the insurance company was closed) they were able to give me a significant discount on my prescription! That was awesome customer service and they have earned a customer for life. I'm really torn between three and four stars, so I decided round up due to no specifically bad experiences. Like most other reviewers, I switched to Melrose from Walg's because I like to buy local first. Unfortunately, Melrose keeps pretty stingy hours; it would be nice if they stayed open an extra hour or so during the week, and they are only open for a few hours on Saturday. No Sunday. C'mon! Obviously, any loyal patrons of Melrose are sacrificing the ridiculous availability of Walgreen's and other pharmacies, so you would think Melrose could crank out another hour a day to prevent poor fools like me from having to drive like a maniac and cut through traffic to get there after work! Anyway, they are courteous, but I wouldn't say anyone has been falling over themselves to thank me for my business. On my first visit, I filled a new prescription for a topical skin care product. The girl at the counter kind of blinked at the price and asked me if I was aware of the cost. I was not. She told me she'd research the price a little bit and call me. My prescription called for a small tube, but she later informed me that a much larger size cost the same amount with my insurance, and would I like to just get the larger quantity? I really appreciated the extra few moments she took to investigate the product to find the best option for me, and to warn me about the pricing! I don't need to visit my pharmacy much more than once a month, so I am content to remain with Melrose, but I think that the sheer tightness of the hours would probably drive me elsewhere if I was having to be in there frequently. The inside is cute and clean with some interesting products, but I think it would be nice if they carried more things like locally-made soaps and bath products.
