We were looking for a place to eat and the reviews were pretty good so we decided to try this place. Right off the bat, the place has a fun vibe to it. Our waitress, Sarah, was welcoming and extremely friendly. She had no problem answering our questions of items on the menu and giving suggestions. We waited a little bit for our food, but it was so worth it. Our pizzas came out and looked amazing. Once we took our first bites we could not get over how amazing the pizza was. Our pizzas were hot and tasted really good and fresh. The crust is amazing. It is a thin crust base and a thicker crust at the top. The crust was chewy, soft, and had a great flavor. Ask for extra garlic butter to dip it in. Trust me that is one of the best parts. The restaurant is very clean as are the bathrooms. This is a little higher priced for a pizza place depending on what you get, but for us it was very worth it. We are already talking about returning. read more

This was my first time dining at a Mellow Mushroom. While my food was delicious, I believe that it's over-hyped. The buttery, garlicky crust was by far the highlight of the experience. I usually visit this Mellow Mushroom when I'm in town visiting friends. I love the fun decor and open spaciousness of the restaurant. The craft pizzas are about as good as it gets when it comes to a pizza joint. The topping combinations are as unique as the name assigned to the pizza such as the Kosmic Karma and Thai Dye. The ingredients always taste fresh and they don't skimp on toppings or cheese. Even the personal size pizza is large enough that I have left overs to take home. Each location orders beers from local breweries so it is really nice to try a local NC beer when I'm at this location. I don't recall the name but they have a really nice strawberry blonde beer which is local to NC. Unique craft pizzas and local craft beers. Perfect combo and such a nice change from the normal boring routine. read more

We frequent here often as a family. It's loud enough if you have a kiddo don't worry about it. Place is family friendly which is a huge plus. The pizza is the best (except for Frankie's/Alezzios) in Hickory. Good sweet parmesan/olive crust and good cheese. We like the ManPie and the classic pepperoni. The wings are oven baked, not my favorite way for a wing to be prepared coming from buffalo, but a good appetizer. All the other appetizers, minus the salads, are bread. Don't get them, it'll fill you up before the pie comes. Also, good beer list! Rotates often and plenty to choose from for any palate. We're fans, like the servers who are attentive and nice, and come here FAR to often which is a compliment to the service, food, and atmosphere. read more

I normally don't post, ever. I had an unfortunate experience at the Mellow Mushroom in Hickory, NC. It was a Sunday at 1 p.m. After allowing myself a full hour to eat before having to be at the convention center at 2 p.m. Not a 5 minute fmdrive from the restaurant location. I noted about 10 tables with patrons including ours. Lots of empty seats. I think I saw 2 people in the kitchen preparing food. Adequate number of wait staff for the number of people in the restaurant. We ordered or drinks and placed our orders, everything moving along as it should. 25 minutes later haven't seen alot if food coming out of the kitchen. I'm beginning to get nervous about having time to eat and meet out appointment deadline. I noted the closest table had an order come out. Something was amiss and what appeared to be shift supervisor came out to assure patrons they would fix it. I haven't seen out waitress again to top off drinks, check on us. I see the hostess coming out of the restroom and ask her if she can get our waitress. She comes over and I tell her my dilemma and ask if food is ready as we now have about 15 minutes left to eat before we have to leave. She goes to the open kitchen and I can see she's hav8ng conversations with multiple people and I note about 7 orders currently in front of the cook. No one comes back to tell us an update. My husband and son stand up and leave. I stand up and make eye contact with the wait staff and tell him I need a ticket for our teas. He comes over and I tell him outlr situation. We need to leave now. He said food is coming out in 5 minutes food is already on process and almost ready. I ask him if that is a firm timeline. He confirmed. I told him if he can get it boxed to go I would go ahead and pay now. By this time my blood sugar is low and I have a headache related to the drop in blood sugar. We leave with food in hand, arrive at the convention center right at time to arrive. Eat quickly in the car with me getting grease on my dress prior to my appointment. Wait for pizza at a PIZZA restaurant is ridiculous. Went twice and had the same experience both times. First visit was in July (Saturday) 2018 second visit was in December (Tuesday) 2018. Get seated, get drinks, get apps, wait and wait and wait, waiter arrives and says "your pizza's will be out in 45 minutes, so sorry, manager is even working the line". SAME exact verbiage BOTH times. The restaurant wasn't crowded and there was no wait for our table. They have added a trivia game host to help you forget that your food is taking FOREVER. read more

Worst experience I've ever had. It was our first time eating here and from the time we entered the restaurant we were given attitude from the hostess. There was only 4 tables there and they didn't even acknowledge us as we were the only ones waiting to be sat. It took them 10 minutes to get seated then it took 15 minutes for the server to come to the table. We waited 20 minutes to get our drinks and he said he forgot about our drinks. Mind you there were only 4 tables with other guests. After he brought our drinks we placed our order. The appetizer came out the same time as our food and it took 30 minutes to get our food. Our server didn't even bring our food out, he was too worried about the table with three young ladies. The pizza wasn't even cut and we had no silverware to eat with. We had to wait another 15 minutes before we stopped him asking for silverware. Then he brought the bill and it took another 15 minutes waiting for him to pick it up after I watched him look at it. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had and if they want business they should think about how the treat their customers. I give zero stars for the service and 1 star for the food because I had to have it boxed up because I lost my appetite So by the time we ate it it was cold. read more

Went there last night for my granddaughters 21st birthday. We were a large party of 9 and had to be separated. The hostess was rude about it. I think it was Linda d u h. I got a steak and cheese hoagie and the meat was so well done and dry you couldn't even tell it was beef. There were no mushrooms or onions and one piece of raw green pepper. I was very disappointed since we all loved it the last time we were there. I did not want to make a fuss because of the special occasion. I have sat here for over an hour waiting on just pretzel bites. Not to mention our pizza has not even come out yet.

I placed a to go order today at 2:07pm. The man that took the Oder said it would be ready in 30 minutes and come to the bar when I arrive. I arrived at 2:50 and restraint was not busy, there were only 2 customers at the tine I arrived. I stood at bar for about 3 minutes before I walked to the preparation area and told staff that I had a togo order then I walked back over to bar. Manager told me did I place an order. I said yes and showed him my phone where I showed time I placed call. Manager stated that the tapes were changed and that evidently my order got lost. He did say I was sorry or what can we do to make it up me. I walk back over to prep area and manager said we are preparing your order.i told manager I don't have tune to wait and that they have lost my business, the the manager replied ok , we have other customers If my ticket was lost how did he know what I wanted, when he said we are doing your order now. Tonight was the third time we've been to this Mellow Mushroom in the past couple years with a poor experience. One time they sat us at a table, got our drinks and came back to ask for our order, with one problem. They were out of dough! So what the heck are we supposed to order?! So we left. Another was just all around terrible wait staff and tonight was more of the same. I had received a $5 off of $25+ coupon for my birthday in my email. So we decided to use it today. First off, it was not even 1/4 full and we waited 15 minutes to even be seated. Waited another 10 before our waitress came to get our drinks. She was so frazzled, even though it wasn't even busy. We ordered and waited a half hour before our appetizer came out, which was missing our beer cheese. We started to wait before eating it, but our waitress didn't come for over 5 minutes to make sure it was right so we just ate it as is, and when she finally came advised her of the issue. It was another 20 minutes before our pizza came out, but the kids orders, a french bread pizza and a macaroni and cheese, didn't. I saw two other tables, that came after us, received their children's food orders that were similar to our order. Finally after about 10 more minutes our children's food came, so we began eating our food since we didn't feel right eating in front of them. The food was fantastic, other than the lack of beer cheese with our pretzels. The check was dropped off. She had subtracted the missing beer cheese but didn't take off my $5 coupon. Mind you, I provided this to her when we ordered as it is a code she had to punch into the computer. We won't return to this Mellow Mushroom! Although short staffed with very poor communication. Was initially told a 20-30 minute wait time. When question the wait time was told an additional 15 mins then an additional 30 mins bc they wouldn't seat us because they were short staffed. They wouldn't allow us to even be seated to receive a drink or appetizer after a 45 minute waited granted over half the patio & inside was open although other customers were being seated after a 10-20 minute wait As we waited. When we initially put our name on the wait list we told the hostess our party could be seated at 3 separate tables. A manager & then the owner even came out to speak to us, but despite receiving customer service we receive a stern tone that said "we can't seat you, you will all order at the same time & back my kitchen staff up. I don't need that" So no worries. We took our $250 sale down the road to Five Guys & I won't give MM a second thought again while in Hickory. read more

However, let me sum up the service this way: Visit 1: I first went here the week it opened, and my friends and I were immediately seated at a table. However, it took them 45 minutes to notice we were even there (people around us were being waited on and served), and even get our drink orders! Visit 2: My friend's birthday party. We waited at least 2 hours for food. Every other visit since then: Usually a very long wait time. Also, they dropped all of our pizzas the last time we went. I really like going here, but only if I'm absolutely not in a hurry. There aren't many restaurants with such consistently slow service, and we usually leave laughing about something ridiculous that happened. But the food is amazing! read more

Because we dine at the same time every Thursday, we tend to have the same servers (Haley or Scott) and they display the perfect balance of friendliness and professionalism. They know our usual order and never have made a mistake. The Manager, Jason, always stops at our table to be sure we were satisfied with our food and visit in general. Mellow Mushroom offers options that cannot be found anywhere else in the area. We like options! We are from Prince George Virginia and happen to be staying at the red roof Inn right behind the mellow mushroom. We ordered take out from the mellow. My husband had a pepperoni and feta pizza and I ordered the white Greek pizza and hummus. My husband said his pizza was decent but nothing to brag about. My white pizza was just okay. The crust was quite doughy and thick which in my opinion, took away from the quality of the pizza. The hummus got raging reviews and I don't understand why. The only assumption I can make is, that people haven't tasted true hummus. I was pretty thick and had a rather bland flavor. I would not eat here again. read more

Bad experience. We typically like the pizza here so visited the Hickory location on a trip. We went on a Sunday afternoon at 5:45. There appeared to be plenty of servers and open tables. We were seated promptly but no one even acknowledged our presence. After 10 minutes and watching others be seated and served after us, we asked a server if someone would be waiting on us. She said she'd check but nothing. After almost 20 min, we went to the front and asked the hostess for help. Shortly after someone took our drink order but said she was not our server.
