We've eaten in the restaurant, but preferred to take out and take home. The restaurant is nice enough and the service was very good but I just like to eat pizza at home and drink an upscale beer or two in front of the big screen. Too much information, right? The pizzas we've had have been much better than average. We still put a little olive oil in an iron skillet and toast them up. They are a chain restaurant, but I've venture fairly good chain if the other ones are like the one we visit across the street from the DurhamBulls Athletic Field. read more

I've always been a fan of Mellow Mushroom, specifically this location. Plenty of parking since it's in the ATC, lots of seating, and they used to have that fun magician who came around to peoples' tables. Most recently I enjoyed a lovely dinner there before a DPAC show. It wasn't as crowded as I feared it might be, and the server we had was absolutely wonderful. Checking in on yelp got me a free greek salad, which was huge! Two of us split it. The restaurant is also very accommodating to dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free, vegan, etc. I actually ended up ordering the house pizza but leaving off the pork (so no ham, pepperoni, sausage or bacon). Why did I order the house pizza if I didn't want many of the ingredients? Because I did want the ground beef, red sauce, and all the veggies! So delicious, and a better deal than building my own. My dining companion had a build your own burger and she got exactly what she wanted, plus our server kindly brought her even more pickles, since she'd mentioned that she loves pickles. All in all such a lovely experience, I can't wait to go back! read more

It's simple, Pizza is life. A great spot if your looking for something different and satisfying. The menu offers classic or out of the box options for your pizza combinations! The downtown Durham location is busy, but overall the staff did a great job taking care of us. The Bulls had a home game so it was extra busy and our party only had a 20 min wait. read more

The House special pizza with all the meat toppings and veggies was delicious I will admit but it was $25. To me The supreme combo at Sam's Club or Costco pizza is just as good for less than half the price. My boyfriend disagrees though because he can't taste the difference and think it's worth it to try a more expensive pizza from time to time. When you check and you do get a free salad which is nice and also a pretzel for your birthday. The pretzel was mediocre I didn't really like that dough. The Greek salad however it was amazing I definitely would give that a 4.5 stars!! Absolutely great service five stars service and four stars environment. read more

Yep, in downtown Durham this location is fun. Pretzel bites and oven baked wings are my go to. Then, Stoned Baked Pizza , choose signatures or make your own all great. Atmosphere is hospitality and so cool. The food absolutely on point, no worries . A must visit. read more

So disappointed that we were denied being sat. I've worked in many restaurants in my life, and it didn't matter if table showed up 30 minutes or 5 minutes before closing, you seat them, serve them, and wait for them to finish their meal. Y'all missed out on a big bill and great tips. I'm sure the owner of the establishment will be thrilled. read more

Mellow Mushroom isn't going to be the best pizza you've ever tasted, and it's probably not going to be on your list of places to bring your friends or rush back to every week. But you know what, they've got some great weekly deals, good service, nice beer selection and the pizza's are consistent. For the ability to meet the needs of a local, Mellow Mushroom is doing it right. This local chain gives off a hippie theme, with their mushroom sculptures and relaxed vibe. They've recently added on additional outdoor, patio seating, which makes for a great option pre-Bulls games. Come in on a Monday or Tuesday night, when select pints are $3.50 and order a salad and small pizza between you and your date. The Greek salad (hold the mushrooms) is a great option and I personally prefer their more basic pizzas. I find the fancier the pizza here, the more "off" the flavors are; for example, the chicken BBQ is really to sweet. They cook their pizzas perfectly here, so simple can be delightful. Overall, Mellow Mushroom makes for a good backup option when you're looking for get out of the house, get a good meal and a solid pizza/salad for a decent price. P.S. Don't miss their beer tap fountain! read more

A huge restaurant with tasty options for a vegetarian! I sat down at a table near the bar and had attentive service. I tried the mushroom soup and it's very creamy and cheesy, if you like that sort of thing. I got the vegetarian tofu hoagie on a white bread which was very tasty. The bread was super soft. If you want a heartier sandwich, I'd go with the wheat bread. You can get a half or a whole size and a half is a nice light bite option. The food came out relatively quickly, despite the restaurant being pretty busy. I'm glad I found this spot as a more affordable, vegetarian friendly place on the tobacco campus. read more

Visiting Durham at the height of Covid poses a challenge for eating! We found Mellow Mushroom and were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had a terrific spinach salad that was gigantic, we also shared pizza and some other treats. We ended up going back a few times over two weeks. Their app is easy to use and order from. Great location near the stadium and American Tobacco complex. Nice outside ding area as well. read more

I was very impressed with mellow mushroom and their ability to fix my order! I really enjoy their gluten-free pizza. I ordered one from them the other day. The pick up time was very quick and efficient. As soon as I got home I realized that my pizza was missing the dried tomatoes and the pesto. I called them to let them know that was missing. They insisted they make me a new pizza! I thought that was very sweet of them to do. There's a lot going on during this pandemic so I really appreciate a pizza shop who is willing to make their pizza is top notch. I will definitely be going back to this location. read more

I love this chain. All the restaurants are a little different but a fun atmosphere. This is the first place my son took us to eat when we came for a visit. Loved the floating Shroom. The service was great and fast. I have had Cal zones and Pizza's here. My Gran-daughter even likes it here , she got allot of attention from the staff. She is only 9 months old. I have always enjoyed the meals here and other Shroom places. A chain but if you are in the Ball Park Area, you gotta come here for a Pizza. read more

I didn't know this establishment was actually a chain. It's quite dim for my liking. The family across from our table was using their flashlight on their phones to read the menu! But I really like their pizza dough. You can taste the freshness of their crust. However, the pricing for the pizza is quite odd. The small ranges from 10-12 dollars and the medium pizzas DOUBLE in price. It's not even an exaggeration. It would be understandable if the size was significantly larger... but it's not-- It's 10" to 14" I would personally order 2 smalls instead of a single medium pizza for the same price. I also recommend the buffalo chicken. That was delicious. The other pizza we ordered was the prime rib pizza, which was just okay. I personally do not like olive oil base sauces because it just feels like fancy bread. The service was great though, very attentive. read more

Whenever I go to a Durham Bulls game I pass by here and the pizza smell is fantastic. I always say, next time lets just eat here and skip the ballpark food! I've yet to do that! Once the season ended we made our way over there and ended up getting seated near the door that leads to the outdoor area. I do NOT recommend this! Every time the servers went in & out, which is quite often, the door slams very loudly and hard. I was getting a headache very quickly. I was looking forward to one of those fantastic smelling pizzas and sadly the waitress misunderstood my order and it came out wrong. To her credit she tried to make good when I confessed what was lacking and it sounded like she was going to bring me another pizza. Instead she brought the missing ingredients in a cup for me to add onto the pizza. It just didn't work out too well. Oh, well, communication can be the biggest challenge sometimes and the difference between a so-so experience at a restaurant and a great one. read more

Ive heard good things about this chain until i went there. First off, this location, you have to find a parking spot in a nearby parking garage, cuz its located in a small strip thats only accessible by walking. Not a big deal, walk is nice and area looks like it would be a nice place to spend a few hours. The place was pretty busy, was sat easily though cuz another party just left. Drinks were alright, nothing crazy or over complicated. No one i was with said anything bad. Server was friendly. Ordered a pizza from there. Difference between a small and medium was $10. Ten whole dollars. So i ordered a medium with extra meat and someone i was with ordered a small. This is where i was extremely let down. We got the pizzas. His pizza was all the way to the crust. You could take his small pie, place it on top of mine, and cover where the all the toppings on mine were. So disappointing. And extra chicken means average of 4 pieces of chicken per slice. For an extra 2.05. I thought they maybe forgot. I asked the server why there was a 2 inch crust on my pizza while my friend had it all the way to the crust. He responded by offering to remake it, but we were on a time crunch to make an event so i just ate it. You would think they would change some kind of charge. But nope. I didnt want to make a big stink about it. You win some, you lose some. They lost me and anyone else who i tell about this if im asked about it. I get that it was busy, but to put this quality of food out and charge an extra $12+ is absurd when i could have just ordered a small. So i left unsatisfied and not full. And it also took 20 minutes to get the check and leave. We had to just walk up to the station and try to get it handled. read more

I have yet to be disappointed by a Mellow Mushroom restaraunt. I have been to the Asheville NC location once, Jacksonville FL once, and this location twice. My only tiny complaint is the pretzel bite appetizer wasn't quite as good as the last time I was here. The rest of the food, as well as our waitress performance, were both on point. I unfortunately don't remember her name but she was super polite and exceptionally efficient with keeping our drinks full. The pizza was a standard large pepperoni and was wonderful. Slightly spicy sauce, fresh cheese, and that unique pretzel-esque crust that you just can't beat. I don't drive up to the Raleigh or Durham areas very often, but I always try to stop here if I can. read more

This is a pizza chain. Never been a huge fan of the pizza from Mellow Mushroom. Independent pizza is almost always better. My office would do catering from here. That's when the office vultures come out from their cubicles smelling the scent of the dough, searching for free food, planning their attack and boom, a mere few minutes later all slices are gone and all that is left is a dirty opened up box with a sad slice of onion hanging on one side of the box and half a black olive stuck to the top of the lid. You know how to paint the picture Matt G, you used to be one of those office pizza vultures. Well, You snooze you lose. While I never say no to pizza, there is better out there. The base isn't great. The bbq chicken toppings just don't taste that good, and don't really work on pizza. At least it looks more appetising than Little Caesar's. Pizza, pizza! read more

Vegetarian: My dad and I shared spinach artichoke dip, 2 avocado hoagies, and a small cheese pizza for less than 40$. I can confidently recommend Mellow Mushroom to those with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free diets. They have lots of variety for those without dietary restrictions as well. Everything was good but the avocado hoagie was better at the Myrtle Beach location. Service: Ordinarily the kitchen at mellow mushroom is very slow but we knew what we wanted and ordered everything at once. The food was timed perfectly Overall: If you're a regular at mellow mushroom there won't be any surprises. First time visitors will likely be impressed by the selection of pizzas. read more

Enjoying a casual date night with the Mr. at @durhammellow! We had the "Funky Q" (bbq chicken pizza with apple wood smoked bacon!). It tastes as delicious as it sounds. Our server (at the outdoor bar area) seemed really overwhelmed, but he held it down and was so courteous while doing so. Gosh the weather is so nice tonight. We are just enjoying the cool breeze, conversation and the water fountain. read more

This was a nice find right across from the Bulls stadium. The decor is pretty psychedelic and fun to look at. Between that and the pizza smells, my husband and I were drawn in. We got free pretzel bites for checking in. They're not quite pretzels since they lack the signature brown skin. The inside texture seemed right though. They were covered in Parmesan and served with cheese and marinara sauce. They were pretty good and we kept the dipping sauces for the pizza crust later (thanks to our server for suggesting it!). The Pacific Rim pizza was AMAZING. The combo of Canadian bacon, pineapple, lovely smoked bacon, and jalapeños was just so good together! The bottom was thin, making it feel like a fork and knife kind of pizza. The crust was chewy, lightly dusted with Parmesan, and not dry or boring like some other pizzas I've had. Would definitely order again. Overall this was a fun find. I don't go to Durham often, but this feels like a place I'd bring friends or family. read more

Had Mellow Mushroom last night here in Durham. Because it being a Monday, there was no wait. The service was quick and the food was hot. When going to a Bulls game this is the best place to grab a bite to eat before the game. And it's never that long of a wait. As usual Mellow Mushroom was great. We ordered a small Mighty Meaty pizza and it was delicious. Great staff.

We stopped in here for lunch and we're not disappointed. We were quickly seated and the service was good. My son and his best friend can be demanding as they are preschoolers, the waitress was pleasant and patient. We sat on the enclosed patio which was quieter than inside. The fan helped to cool the area. The food was delivered pretty quickly and was tasty. My son split the gluten free pizza with his friend and ate three slices.
