Short review in 日本語/Japanese 下/down below: Meiji Pharmacy is a god send to those who are primarily Japanese speaking since the application of the drug as well as the side effects can be explained to a non English speaking person clearly & without miscomprehension. There is also a selection of Japanese pharmaceutical products. Of course, for English speakers, this neighborhood pharmacy has a small town feel where the service is friendly & courteous, and prescriptions are filled in the standard American manner. There is medically related equipment such as wheel chairs, walkers, canes, shower seats as well as vitamin supplements, beauty aids, over-the-counter drugs, mouth wash, etc just as in any other drug stores. I come to Meiji Pharmacy since I like the more personal feel & service that I can't get at such places such as the Gardena CVS where a few years ago I was snubbed by a disgruntled employee when I asked a simple question of where to find some Glucosamine Chondritin. Since my mom is a Japanese speaker, she does all her medical purchases here since it gives her peace of mind to know that she can understand & be understood in her native language. However, English speakers will find it pleasant to do business here too. Years ago, I had written two yelp tips but, not a full review review so, this five star, perfect score is long overdo. Cliff Yamashita, PharmD is the best! You cannot find a pharmacist out there that is as knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate as he is. (I believe that his daughter is a pharmacist in Hawai'i as well.) The staff at Meiji are top notch in service. This is a true "Good Neighbor Pharmacy." Sure, the larger retail pharmacies may have fancier technology or processes but, at Meiji our family gets exceptional service unparalleled. Big name pharmacies can merely provide "transactional" experiences. My mom is elderly and she has faced health challenges over the years and she is currently recuperating from new challenges. Akemi Yamashita (apharmacist) says "I don't know how many times I have to tell you the same thing over and over again"! When Trying to confirm a doctor telling me 20 mg over the phone about a dosage. When the clerk simply won't go beyond what paperwork says, "10 mg!". I just thought it was odd the doctor would prescribe a larger dosage than the OTC as the doctor instructed to pick up the prescription version. Relentlessly, Akemi wouldn't go beyond stating the OTC is the correct dosage and that's that. It's almost impossible to check with the doctor on my end due to busy signal of covid overflow. My point is if they aren't willing to hear you out about dosage confirmation after you spoke to the doctor about dosages and being incorrect after getting meds. Questioning the dosage shouldn't be a burden... after all pharmacists do call themselves "doctors"? This is over my mothers well being as she's been to the ER 2x and was denied being seen second time because of covid. The clerk has enough nerve to call me back to say the paperwork is here to pick up? When my point is to confirm with the doctor as I was instructed differently since I can't reach her. Instead the clerk told me in Japanese maybe Akemi is hot headed since she's young and new at this... unbelievable. A little respect would've been nice I hope the Yamashita family can give a slappy slap on the wrist for being a rude "pharmacist"? Need to tell moms never to go back. Hot garbage pharmacy read more

Super annoyed because they would not accept return on a defective product. I am breastfeeding a newborn and sent my husband for a microwave heating pad. When I went to microwave it, as per instructions, my whole house smelled like a freakin' ashtray. It was terrible. I thought they sold me a used product that stunk from a smoking household after heating, but when my husband got home and took a look, it was actually because the product had a cigarette sized hole burn in it that stunk. Asked him to take it back and they wouldn't accept it. And yes, we had receipt and original packaging. read more

I'm writing this review based on their customer service. I sent in a prescription for my patient that she needed ASAP to keep her out of the hospital again. She was took sick to pick it up and no one could get it to her in a timely manner. I called to see if they had delivery and sure enough they do! Because she lived outside of their delivery area it would be $10. The patient agreed out of desperation but I knew it was a financial hardship as both her and her son have cancer. The owner heard the situation and waived the delivery fee. This type of service you will NEVER get from a Walgreens, cvs etc. these small mom and pop pharmacies can make all the difference in someone's care. I also never had to wait on hold the 3 times I called, excellent customer service!!! read more

Fairly large pharmacy, with loads of stuff to look at. Great service. Seriously, customer service was wonderful; people were nice, things were organized. They called when medication was ready, were detailed in their instructions for dosage, asked if there were any questions, and overall, were personable and nice. I will always be willing to drive way out of my way to have my medications filled at Meiji! Their customer service is top notch and everyone is super friendly. Cliff is the last of his kind. He knows your name, is very empathetic, and he doesn't hesitate to provide extra information if he feels it's important. Profits are important but you don't feel like that at Meiji nor do you feel like a number at this place. He is an honest businessman and I appreciate that. It's tough to not feel cheated these days at certain places. Cliff doesn't charge 4 and 5x what other places do. He has fantastic staff who are always willing to help and will go above and beyond to help. I can't speak highly enough about this pharmacy and I will be coming here for all of my needs unless I move out of state (even then I'd try to fill through the mail with him). read more

This review is long overdue. Meiji Pharmacy and Cliff are godsend. Full service and always helpful and caring. Reasonable prices for non-prescription and prescription meds. My mother lived in Gardena whereas I'm 20 miles away in Orange County. Between my mother and myself we required so many prescription meds that I could not keep up. On many occasions I discovered that mom ran out of pills for something or other. It was so easy to call to request a refill, pay over the phone with my credit card and they would deliver the pills to her right away. THANKS TO CLIFF AND HIS GREAT STAFF. This is my main pharmacy store. This store has friendly staff and fast service, clean interior with a nice TV and aquarium to stare at if opting to wait for the prescription. The pharmacist goes over the medication instructions for any new prescription you're about to take home, he doesn't miss a beat, very thorough. Becoming more human: I don't tend to say Hi to too many people when I'm out and about, I mostly look half asleep or dead and ignore saying Hello. But the pharmacist always-always says Hello to me when I walk in and see me, as well as to every customer. Did I mention always? By name? How does he remember everyone's names? (Because he doesn't drink and smoke? Oh....) So..., I now automatically say Hi when I walk in, the arm comes up automatically and does the wave thing as well, I stare at my arm doing its own thing, bizarre, but got used to it. Dear pharmacist, thank you for conditioning me to say Hi to people, maybe I'll make some friends after all. read more

Meh. Looking to move about 10 medications for myself and my wife from our old pharmacy, since we've moved. Called these guys to ask a question about their overall pricing policy*. Was given two conflicting answers and then told the pharmacist would have to call me back in two days. Really? They need two days (and a pharmacist!) to answer a basic pricing policy question? I'm trying to imagine what it would be like, trying to get 10 or more medications filled correctly with these guys every month. No thanks - I'll deal with the line at Walgreens instead. * I wanted to know if they increase the price of medications to match the customer's copay. Some places (like Costco when I used to go there) charge the full copay for each medication, even if that medication costs less, basically raising the price of the medication to match your copay. Others charge a price based on the medication (and a markup, I assume), and if it's less than your copay, you pay the smaller price. This is why my current pharmacy charges me an average of about $4 per medication, resulting in a total of around $40, rather than the $200 (10 times our $20 copay) I used to pay at Costco. read more

The staff are pretty helpful here, and they speak Japanese, which is a plus when you're a fob like my mom. She can speak English fine, but she appreciates being able to boss people around in her native tongue. Definitely not the same as it used to be when Cliff was there. Now there is a completely rude and obnoxious Pharmacist. After being a consistent customer for over 5 years I returned after 1.5 years after having 3 surgeries. I went for pain medication, and one month later for a refill. The pharmacist told me that they were not taking any new customers needing pain medication. I told her I was not a new customer. She refused to help me. I called back later to find out her name and the lady that answered the phone said "she didn't want to take the call" and hung up on me. I would suggest all customers not return to Meiji Pharmacy. read more

I would not fill rx's anywhere else. I recall waiting in VERY long lines at CVS. Hell to the no. Never again! Cliff is the main pharmacist here and he is fantastic. It's an old school place where everyone knows your name. It has great service and a super knowledgeable pharmacist. My entire family comes here to fill their meds. The pharmacy even delivers locally. Now, if you are looking to get refills on Sundays or order through the internet, this is not your place. Like I said, old school. Sometimes when I am not feeling well or get bad news from the doctor, the last thing I need is to go to a pharmacy that will give me a hassle. When I go to Meiji Pharmacy, I am treated like someone special whose time is very precious. Lately I have had to go there quite often and I have been so impressed with what I have seen. First, the pharmacist greets me by my first name, even after not having been there for years! Second, whenever he sees me and someone is in front of me, he always calls someone to wait on me. Third, my prescriptions are always filled very quickly. Fourth, whenever I have questions, the pharmacist always talks to me personally. Meiji pharmacy in Gardena is the best pharmacy. I have worked at Rite aid pharmacy for 10 years. After moving back to Gardena, I started going back there. The owner Cliff is fast and efficient. The workers are all very friendly. Since my Insurance, won't pay for my meds I had to choose between CVS,Wal Mart or Rite aid. I chose CVS, because it's within walking distance. They take Soo long to fill a script. When my doctor, sends my script to CVS the wait is ridiculous. I see people standing in line and they don't look too happy. If you want fast service, and to be treated like your supposed to be. My suggestion is to go to Meiji pharmacy in Gardena. read more
