Blueberry Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, Chicken and Gravy
Katelyn C.

4.25/5 FOOD: chicken and gravy dish was the star of the show. the chicken piece was juicy, tender and well seasoned. the gravy complemented it well and didn't overpower the chicken's flavor. large portion for the pancakes and they were generous on the blueberries. the lemon flavor barely was barely there through, would have loved more ricotta too. SERVICE: super sweet and speedy workers on a weekday AMBIANCE: hence the name, you step into a different decade and feel nostalgic with their decor and artwork. very cute spot.

I went for brunch and was expecting a long wait, but the staff was very quick and was able to seat us at a fairly fast rate. The food overall was pretty good - it's normal homestyle food, but I did enjoy it. Honestly, what made me want to come back was the staff, the bottomless mimosas (which is a fantastic deal there!!!), and the overall decor. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we got the best deal for breakfast and I really appreciate that! The decor transports you to another time and feels very nostalgic --not very many restaurants are as immersive as this one so kudos to them!

Breakfast Burrito and French Toast
Ivan Lawrence A.

Food Went here for a Sunday morning brunch with the wife. Ordered ourselves a breakfast burrito and a french toast. Loved the breakfast burrito, it was filled just right and had a good amount of flavor, as someone who loves heat, it could have used a bit more, but it was just the right amount for my wife, who isn't that big of a fan of heat. The French toast was really good, just the right amount of sweet and accompanied by some good preserves with tart to balance the sweetness. Service/Ambiance For a Sunday morning brunch party of 2, the wait wasn't too bad. I love the vibe of the place as it gives old school breakfast at your grandma's place. The staff were really nice and service was relatively quick as well. Definitely will come back

Bacon & Avocado Omelette w/ Potatoes

Charming, must-try breakfast/lunch spot in Bixby Knolls. The interior is immersive, definitely feels like you're visiting grandma's house with the tube tv, stained glass, and framed vintage photos. I ordered the bacon and avocado omelette. The potatoes were deliciously crispy. However the bacon in the omelette was a bit dry and seemingly overcooked. My bf ordered the Meema's classic burrito. He said it was one his favorite breakfast burritos. I also ordered the guava 'Meemosa', which was pretty good. Might not be our go to breakfast joint, but a fun place to take a friend for the first time. Got street parking right away and waited about 20 mins on a Sunday at 11am.

Chilaquiles (spicy) with added meat.

This spot just took the #1 breakfast place for me in Long Beach so far. The food is fresh, full of flavor, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. A lot of what they serve feels homemade, which makes a difference. The ambiance has this cozy, old-school vibe, and the customer service has been consistently great every time I've gone. Plus, the portions are generous, definitely not leaving hungry. Prices are a bit higher than your typical breakfast spot, but honestly, it makes sense for the quality you're getting. It is a smaller space, so I recommend going early to avoid a wait or just plan ahead and make a little date out of it. There are cute shops nearby, so you can walk around while you wait. My favorites so far: the spicy chilaquiles and the steak and eggs. And listen, I'm not even a big meat eater, but I've ordered the steak and eggs three times in a row... that's how good it is. Highly recommend trying it at least once.

Adding a 2026 review, same as 2025. This place is a Gem to the Bixby Knolls LB area. This establishment has it going on with their food and Service. Food is excellent here! I am being honest on this restaurant, excellent food with great adult beverages and great service. We ordered an Avocado Toast along with a main entree of Steak and Eggs. OmG! Soo good. We go here so much that our usual waitress knows what we drink and what we usually order. Lol. Glass of water for me and bottomless Mimosa with Guava juice for wifey. Kudos to Taylor for always being on point. Her service is immaculate! Give that girl a raise :) Also giving big Kudos to Miguel the owner for keeping this establishment pleasantly awesome. Nothing but positive things about this place and location. Keep it up!!! Bravo

A small and beautiful restaurant here in Long Beach with great food and fun activities for kids. We came with one child, and they were given crayons along with a menu that included a scavenger hunt (I heard you can get something for finishing it) and a few other fun activities to keep them entertained. As for the food, we really enjoyed it. I tried the following: Biscuits and Gravy - Heavy, buttery, and delicious. I got this with tater tots and it was the perfect combo. Good chunks of beef as well. (4.5/5) Chicken Sandwich - A classic done right. It wasn't too oily and was nicely seasoned. The onion rings were fire too. (4.5/5) The service was great, they checked on us frequently, and the food came out tasty and satisfying. Definitely a solid brunch/lunch spot. Parking: We parked right out front on the street without any issues.

The spot was on my bookmark for a while. Since we had to be in the area, we finally got to give it a try. It's a very cute little place, with lots of knickknacks at your grandma would've had. They also had an old school TV that worked. It was showing very old-school cartoons, commercials, and anything you watched on TV and grew up with. Before I get into the food, I wanted to let people with sensitive noses know something. Like most places that want to keep their rooms fresh and clean, the spot has one of those pumps that spears out perfume aroma every few minutes. For me, it was a little too much, and I got on my nerves. They are quite a busy place, which explains the delay of our food. When it came out, though, I was quite happy with the result. I kept it classic with eggs, bacon, and potatoes. The eggs were a color that you normally see when the eggs are farm fresh, so there's a very good outlook. The bacon was Hickory smoked and so good. The potatoes were quartered and very crispy. My sourdough didn't come with butter, but they brought some out for me. The pancake that I shared with my partner was good, a little dense, but quite enough for us to enjoy together. She had the chorizo breakfast burrito with eggs and potatoes, and finished it. It was a decent sized burrito that was good from start to finish. The coffee that she ordered came out a very cute little cup and saucer that you would've absolutely found in your grandma's China cabinet. The service is very good and the seating was comfortable. There's a a lot to look at in the room. If you haven't come here yet, I would definitely give it a try. They also have outside seating, so next time you'll find me out there.

MeeMa's is a family owned breakfast restaurant in Long Beach and is perhaps one of the cutest breakfast spots in Los Angeles. Think of this as a retro theme breakfast spot with the ultimate nostalgia vibe like retro TV showing Garfield & vintage antique items. [Parking]: Street parking only, but I had no issue finding an available spot. [Menu]: They offer both classic Mexican and American breakfast items with modern twists such Chorizo Bean Breakfast Burritos, Churro French Toast, Steak and Eggs, Fried Chicken Sandwich, etc. *** Classic Breakfast Burrito (farm fresh eggs, chopped bacon, cheddar cheese, salsa verde and homemade pico de gallo, wrapped in a warm, hand made, flour tortilla - $15.50): I ordered this to-go and it came with a side of salsa. Salsa tasted good but not amazing. Chopped bacon had a hint of vinegary aftertaste from salsa. The portion was big enough to split in half for both breakfast and lunch. *** A solid 3.5-star on breakfast burrito but bump up to 4-star on unique indoor decor vibe and friendly service.

Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast!

Friends and I went to the Expo Center on Atlantic Blvd and afterwards we chose Mee Ma's for lunch. I had the scrambled eggs, bacon , potatoes and toast. Everything was freshly cooked and made. It was tasty! My friends had the chicken and waffles. They said they were excellent! My other friend had the chicken sandwich and said it was scrumptious. At first she said she was going to eat just half and take the rest home. There was nothing left to take home! It was so good she just kept eating! The service is friendly and the owner came by to see how everything was. After we were full the owner brought use a tasting plate, complimentary, with their churro french toast, two sauces, strawberry and peach, and a homemade whipped cream! Lovely, scrumptious and so delicious! I am definitely going back to have a full serving! I definitely recommend this local brunch restaurant!

I liked everything . Got seated quickly. All the workers were nice. The ambience was that of MeeMa's house. Countrystyle in the middle of the city. O.J was tasty. Mikey Melt and Tots were really good and had full stack of pancakes. I believe my servers name was Mya. Good job all around.

Folks should be aware this place is capable of treating you with disrespect in person, then when you mention the poor treatment in a TikTok comment, they'll respond without taking accountability and dismissing your experience. They will then ultimately block you - presumably because too many people liked your comment. You guys, that's embarrassing. You need to do better. My comment was completely respectful and an honest concern for how I was treated the one time I ventured in with a friend. Deleting feedback you don't like, customer concerns, and then further blocking those people (I hadn't written anything else. I only noticed because I clicked on the notification that someone liked my comment and saw I was now blocked) makes you look shady and guilty. I'm not a bot, and I explained a very real, possibly discriminatory experience at your bar. If anyone reading would like to know the experience: It was October 21, 2024. A Monday. I should've written this review then but I didn't have anything nice to say, and didn't want to trash this place when it seemed they were struggling due to what the bartender said. I was going through a really tough time, having just canceled my wedding about a month earlier. It was my first outing after a month+ of deep depression. My friend came to rescue me and take me out. I had been meaning to try this place since moving to Long Beach. It was fairly early in the evening, probably around 8pm or so and it was pretty slow. There was music and two couples dancing. We grabbed a table and I went to the bar to get us drinks. As I stood at the bar, some guys had come up alongside me to wait as well. The bartender looked over me and promptly took their orders. I barely had any emotion left in me at the time so I didn't care, and just waited to be next. However, I waited. And waited. And waited. The bartender seemed to be intentionally ignoring me (now the only person standing at the bar). I watched him busy himself with other drinks for the tables, for the guys, and continue to ignore me. Time ticked by and I started to wonder if I was doing something wrong. My friend kept looking over at me from the table like what is taking so long? Minutes and minutes passed as I stood there awkwardly, being blatantly ignored. After a long stretch of time, the bartender quickly said something in my direction like, "If you want to order you're going to have to go to the other end of the bar." I said, "Oh ok thank you." And walked to the other end of the bar. From this point, I was ignored and talked about (full male bar staff) without being looked at. They rudely discussed in front of me how I was standing there, and how each one of them wasn't going to take my order. It had been over a half hour at this point, and I was the only one who had been standing at the bar. It was a slow Monday night. Because I was a broken hearted loser at the time, I started to tear up. Why was I being treated like this? Am I not someone they want in their bar? Is this place not queer or woman friendly?? Why is every other person getting served, while I am blatantly dismissed? After almost 40 minutes, the bartender on that end told me he wasn't going to take my order, and I'd have to go back to the other side again. I quietly walked back over to the other side, feeling so embarrassed and just wanting to leave. It was ridiculously clear I wasn't welcome here, though I had no idea why. I remained standing there for maybe another 10 minutes. The original guy finally relented and begrudgingly took my drink order. He was standoffish at first, until he realized I wasn't upset about any of it. He started to apologize, saying he was brand new, and told me some of the staffing issues they had had that night. He seemed stressed. He recognized he had served the guys before me, and I had been ignored for way too long. He apologized again, and poured us an extra shot in our drinks to make up for the poor treatment. The drinks honestly were terrible lol, but I can only complain about so much. Plus he gave us double the alcohol, so I guess I was grateful. We left immediately after and went somewhere else. I haven't been back since. I wish I could share screenshots of my TikTok comment with the owner's dismissive reply, so you could see for yourselves whether you think that deserved being blocked. She even liked one of my reels from my page? Very odd. People are going to share the truth about their experiences at your establishment, and for you to deny that and block them is wild. You could've responded in a very different way, but you chose to be defensive and shady. That's on you.

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.

The exterior is modest and understated, but the neon grasshopper sign really pops and gives you a hint of what's waiting inside. Tasteful vintage artwork of women adorned the walls, while the balanced lighting created just the right mood. The cozy booths are perfect for intimate conversations, and the bar seating gives guests an opportunity to chat with the bartenders. Every detail--from the beautiful light fixtures to the convenient purse hooks--felt thoughtfully considered. The cocktail menu offers a great variety of creative craft cocktails and classics, along with beer and draft selections. Of course, I had to try the Grasshopper cocktail, and it did not disappoint! Served in a coupe glass, it was beautifully presented, delicious, and very well made. The service was prompt and attentive, and the quality of the drinks made me want to return and explore more of the menu. I also appreciate when an establishment carries its aesthetic throughout the entire space, and The Grasshopper certainly does. Even the spacious, clean bathrooms featured fun insect-themed artwork. There's also an outdoor patio for anyone who wants some fresh air or a livelier conversation with their group. I visited on a weeknight, but I noticed a DJ setup and disco ball, so it looks like the space is ready for a fun night of music as well. I love a beautifully decorated bar that feels elevated and refined--a place where you can enjoy a quality cocktail or two, feel safe and well cared for, and genuinely want to tell your friends about it. The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. The experience was amazing. Speaking of Speakeasy! First, if you don't want to (most likely) get turned away, you will definitely need to make a reservation on OpenTable a few days before. Parking around the area was tough, but you may find a spot if you circle around the blocks. You will need to arrive early to look for parking. When you arrive, you will see the Mexican restaurant El Barrio Cantina. You will want to walk into the alley on the left, then you will see the door with a lantern on your left. Congrats, you have arrived! Knock on the door and tell them your reservation. The bar was popular. Their reservations were all full for the night. Their cocktails were amazing, creative, delicious, and Tokyo-inspired. I love their cool menu design. The bartender was friendly and made some nice recommendations. I had a Meguro River. It's creamy and pretty with floral decorations, served in a mini pot. The Okinawan Gimlet is in cool green. They even have alcoholic gummies and alcoholic shaved ice on menu. They do have a time limit of 1.5 hours seating. I can't wait to come back again.

We sat at the bar, and I expected to receive service from the bartender, but he didn't acknowledge us for the entire night. Instead, our server took our order. After a while, she informed us that the crispy rice we ordered was sold out. She mentioned that the bartender was supposed to let us know, but he never did. What made the experience more uncomfortable was that the bartender seemed to be giving most of his attention to the Caucasian customers on the other side of the bar. We were the only Asian customers there, and unfortunately, this left us feeling like we were being treated differently because of our race. The good food and drinks helped compensate for the poor service, so we decided not to let it ruin our evening. However, things got even more disappointing at the end. After I paid, I noticed that I had been charged for the crispy rice even though we never received it. When our server tried to address the issue, the bartender appeared to ignore both her and us, so we eventually left. I hope management sees this review and reaches out to me to address the overcharge and the overall experience. Overall, although the food and drinks were good, the service and the way we were treated left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

Finally made it out and they are about to close. :(…read more It was very busy when we arrived and we had to wait about 20 minutes, but after being seated, everything was smooth. Trying several items on the menu provided us a nice sampling of what they have to offer. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My favorite was probably the Brussel sprouts as they were cooked to perfection and not sweet like most restaurants serve them. A close 2nd was the chicken parmesan served over zucchini noodles. The final item ordered was a mushroom pasta with shrimp. The shrimp were fantastic with a light char and perfect flavoring. The pasta was good. It was a bit to spicy for me with the chili oil so I only had a small portion. The inside is simple yet inviting with an open layout. They seemed a bit short staffed, but every one was hustling and honestly we were well taken care of. Sad I won't have another opportunity to try more of the menu, but grateful to squeeze in this visit before they close in about a week.

The restaurant was busy with constant traffic, however I didn't feel rushed. We ordered calamari, house bread and mozzarella balls. The calamari was crispy, Cajun and delicious we really enjoyed the fried lemon slices! The mozzarella balls we're good but the house bread was a stand out! It's warm, flaky, savory and the tomato chili fenell butter complemented very well. For entrees we ordered the grilled branzino, short rib Agnotolli and the truffle pesto lasagna. The Branzino was perfect and the chili crunch herb salad was amazing. The short rib agnotolli was very savory and I loved the robiola bosina. The lasagna was very good and cheesy.
