Just wrapped up my 8-hour LASD CCW refresher with Medic Up Consulting, and let me tell you, these guys are the real deal. If you've been to enough of these classes over the years like I have, you know they can sometimes turn into a dry lecture or a massive instructor ego trip. Or both. Not here. The guys running the show--Ron, Juan, and the rest of the crew--are active and retired law enforcement, veterans, and first responders. They aren't just reading slides out of a manual; they're sharing actual, street-level experience. There's no fluff and absolutely zero attitude, just straight-shooting, practical advice from people who have actually been there. Every single instructor, and there are a lot of them, are approachable, engaging, and legitimately want to help you become a safer and more knowledgeable CCW card holder. The day starts with a safety brief and then some shooting drills, followed by the live-fire qualification, all of it up at Burro Canyon (give yourself extra time to get there, this place is in the middle of the boondocks). Safety was locked down tight, but the environment was relaxed enough that everyone could focus and get some solid training in. The instructors readily admit that the actual shooting qualification score is a no-brainer, so they weave in more things like drawing from the holster and dropping magazines. The instructors are constantly on the move, adjusting your grip, giving you tips to be a safer and more accurate shooter. Very, very cool. Following the shooting qualifications and a lunch break, they handled the legal updates and use-of-force stuff clearly and kept the class moving. One of the best parts is that they actually weave trauma medical training ('Stop the Bleed') right into the course. Knowing how to save a life is just as important as knowing how to handle a firearm, and most other CCW classes completely skip that side of the coin. I will confess that as a new hunter, I carry a tourniquet, but I didn't consider some of the nuances the instructors brought up, like rapid access from the pack, putting it on one-handed, high and tight, etc. And we actually practiced using it! If you need your initial permit or you're just looking for a renewal class that won't waste your time, don't look anywhere else. Professional, down-to-earth, and genuinely good people. So I want to begin by saying this is an amazing course to experience. Very thorough, detailed, and informative. Not only are you recognized as student but you are taught to be the best. Also want to mention the Los Angeles Sheriff's department has a list of instructors who are approved in the state of California to teach. So these are the guys to learn from. From a friend's recommendation, my Husband and I took their 16 hr initial CCW with Medic up. I felt very comfortable with every Medic up staff member that was there with their experience, expertise, and making sure we feel safe on range and learning the curriculum. I highly recommend Medic Up. I attended their 16 hour initial CCW training and it was amazing. As someone who likes to be prepared, I appreciated the emails from Juan clearly outlining the expectations for the training, including what to bring, maps showing where to go, and paperwork to fill out ahead of time. As a relative beginner when it comes to firearms, I was a pretty nervous going into it but everyone on the Medic Up team was so professional and patient. They had good senses of humor too, which made the class fun and eased my nerves. There were 18 people in my training, and plenty of instructors. Someone was always there to help me when I needed it. Victor and Sebastian helped me with my grip and trigger pull which significantly improved my accuracy. Not only are these guys very knowledgeable and skilled when it comes to firearms, you can tell they are passionate about it as well. Beyond actually shooting a gun, they also provided education regarding life saving measures and the importance of legal representation. Matt led the legal portion, and he had a vast understanding of every bill/law pertaining to 2A rights. It was very eye opening and inspired me to do my own research. Sebastian presented the medical info and you can tell he knows his stuff. He demonstrated how to respond to gun shot wounds to different parts of the body, such as using a tourniquet, packing a wound, or using a chest seal. When I got home I ordered a few more things for my emergency kit based off his recommendations. Day 2 was in a classroom, led by Randy. He was incredibly knowledgeable and answered every question and hypothetical situation thrown at him. He provided a lot of clarity regarding when you can legally defend yourself using your firearm. Also, I received my course completion certificate from Juan by the end of the day. Overall, this was a very organized, well-rounded course led by professionals. Despite my nerves going into it, there wasn't a moment where I regretted being there or felt uncomfortable. TBH I liked it so much I wish it was longer! It was engaging and informative and I walked away learning way more than I thought I would. MedicUp Consulting is the real deal. I took their Los Angeles County CCW course this past weekend (Nov 15-16), and it was hands-down the best training experience I've had. They cover CCW fundamentals, but the big standout is how much emphasis they put on medical and Stop the Bleed training -- which every CCW holder should be learning. It rained both days, one day fully outdoors, and it was an eye-opener for everyone. Most students (including me) run red dots, and none of us realized how much rain, cold, and wet grips would affect shooting. The instructors didn't just point out the challenges -- they taught us how to work around them. That alone made the course worth it. Matt deserves a special mention. During a drill he came over, corrected my grip, and within minutes my accuracy jumped. My shot grouping got tighter throughout the entire day. He even identified that a "cool" mod I did to my gun was actually hurting my aim -- and he proved it by shooting a tiny grouping with my own pistol. On top of that, his knowledge of California 2A issues and CCW insurance was top-tier. Randy was another instructor who stood out. He broke down fundamentals in a way that made sense, shared real sheriff experience, and tied everything back to ethics, responsibility, and proper decision-making. I left day one feeling like I understood why I was doing everything I was being taught. Seabass handled the medical portion and absolutely crushed it. He opened my eyes to gaps in my first-aid kits, explained what real trauma gear looks like, and showed exactly how to use everything. I went home and immediately ordered new gear to upgrade all my vehicle kits. Rod kept the entire course running smooth and brought the classroom portion to another level. On day two he even brought a bunch of his personal CCW gear -- holsters, belts, setups, firearms -- so we could physically handle them and figure out what works for us. Super helpful, and honestly something most instructors never do. Another cool thing: these guys bring real gear they personally run. I ended up buying the same red dot and grip module they brought for my P365 because seeing it in action made the choice easy. Overall, the course was phenomenal. I've been recommending MedicUp for two years without even having taken the class myself -- now that I finally have, I'll recommend them even harder. These guys genuinely care, they know their stuff, and they make sure you walk out better prepared than when you walked in. And here's the real proof: when mandatory classes end (like traffic school), everyone bolts for the door. I completed an 8-hour renewal yesterday. One of the best things about the class is that it brings an interdisciplinary cadre of instructors. They combine experience from civilian, law enforcement, military, and emergency medical perspectives to present a class that is well executed. So many other programs lack the hands-on medical component. These guys knew what they were talking about but they were humble and eager to share everything they could. It rained during most of our shooting portion. They made best of it and encouraged us to work through the real-world conditions such as slippery hands, wet equipment, fogged up red dots, etc. I'll be back in 2 years for renewal! I opted to include the AZ ccw endorsement which allows you to carry in 37 states (as of the date of this review). They provided step by step instructions on how to apply for it when they sent my certificate. It took me 10 minutes to apply for it when I got home. I paid the application fee and scheduled my fingerprinting. Worth it if you plan on traveling out of state at all. read more

Came here for CCW LAPD renewal .Amazing training by this team. While on the line and shooting my target, pulled one shot off and knew myself it was my trigger pull. Instructor came by and pointed out trigger. As an avid shooter, this is how you know these guys know their business. Very flexible schedules and made the day fun. I'm equally impressed by their medical training which is often neglected. They also offer Arizona CCW option as well. You can't beat their quality product and for the price.
