***THIS IS ANOTHER BUYER BEWARE REVIEW*** This is not the first review or the first time this dealership has sold cars with poor frames. I don't know if they intentionally hide their reviews or delete them, but please be aware when purchasing a vehicle from these guys. I recently purchased a 2008 Toyota Forerunner from Mebane Auto Group. The car had low mileage, a clean title, a nice interior, and new wheels and tires. I test-drove the vehicle before purchasing and the salesmen provided me with a pre-sale inspection stating that the car and its frame were in GOOD condition. I then proceeded to purchase the vehicle. After a week of driving the car with no issues, I drove three hours home on a weekend to take my boat out, and before towing the boat, I noticed severe rust inside the trailer hitch. I then checked under the spare wheel and noticed more rust. Being that the pre-sale inspection stated the car's frame was in good shape, I assumed that I had nothing to worry about. I decided to take it to get an inspection just to be safe. When inspected, the auto repair shop immediately told me that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The undercover paint used to cover the rust on the frame was partially scraped off and there were multiple holes in the frame. Just to give Mebane Auto Group the benefit of the doubt. I then proceeded to get two more inspections on the Forerunner, one from an authorized Toyota dealer. Both inspections notified me that the car was unsafe for me to drive. The frame was in that bad of shape. The Toyota dealership actually red-flagged my vehicle meaning they would not lift it to look underneath it because the frame was so rusted out. They made me sign a statement realizing that I was aware of how unsafe the vehicle was before driving the car off the lot. After getting THREE inspections on the vehicle, all saying the car was unsafe for me to drive, I then called Mebane Auto Group to let them know that I was going to be dropping this car off as soon as I was able and that something had to be done. After going back and forth with both the sales guy (won't say his name) and the repair guy (also won't say his name, the owner) about the vehicle and the fact that they had conducted a pre-sale inspection that was not true. I was able to return the vehicle. These guys are just trying to sell cars, they intentionally did not disclose the condition of the Forerunner and knew the condition of it because they (or someone they paid) put undercover paint under the vehicle, hiding the frame's condition. I've purchased 18+ cars since I began driving. Since moving to the Triangle in 2013, I've been disappointed by finding the "local" prices on used cars being $1K-$2K higher than the National average. This has resulted in me often looking at dealerships 3-4 hours away in GA and MD to get a great deal on a used car. ***BUYER BEWARE*** If you are looking to purchase a Toyota 4 runner from Mebane Auto Group, make sure you get a full inspection of the undercarriage and frame! I was looking to purchase a solid used Toyota 4runner as a first car for my teenage daughter's birthday. I thought I located one at Mebane Auto Group in Mebane. NC while searching across various reputable online sites. I did my due diligence with a carfax report showing a 1 owner/no accident 4runner that had mileage under 200,000. The Mebane Auto Group site also showed that it had undergone a "Carketa vehicle inspection report" stating the vehicle was in top notch condition. I called Mebane Auto Group and spoke directly to the sales manager about the vehicle. He stated it was a solid vehicle that would last a long time for my daughter. I asked if it had any other issues I should know about. He told me that it had a worn hole in the carpet under the accelerator and the 4 low did not engage. He also stated that 4 hi worked fine and it would not impact the operation of the vehicle. I didn't really care that 4 lo was not engaging becuase we leave in a temperate and flat location. Thinking I had a good vehicle for my daughter's birthday, I flew to Raleigh-Durham and was picked up by the sales manager in the vehicle I was looking to purchase. I could see that inside was clean and it seemd to travel well. The sales manager also stated that they had recently sprayed the undercarriage with a rust prohibitive coating to ensure the undercarriage was protected. Living near the Carolina coast, I found that to be a great benefit. I didn't realize at the time that was just to cover up a major issue with the vehicle. After taking the vehicle for a test drive and doing a visual inspection in their parking lot, I reaffirmed with the sales manager that there were no other known issue and purchse the vehicle, After completing the paperwork that stated also I would have to enter into arbitration versus retaining and attorney for any issues, I drove the vehicle home (5 hours from Mebane, NC). The day after arriving home with the vehicle, I presented it to my daughter for her birthday and told her I needed to have it checked thougoughly by our trusted Toyota Mechanic. The next day, we drove it over to the mechanic and asked them to give the vehicle a thorough inspection as well as to take a look at the 4 lo issue. After just 2 hours, I received call from our mechanic. They emailed a link to the inspection report showding a major issue. The mechanic stated that the dealership had painted the undercarriage to conceal a major rust issue with the frame and that the vehicle was not safe for me or my daughter to drive. He also stated that the frame would not last more than a year or two before falling apart. I immediately texted/called Mebane Auto Group to discuss arbitration for resolving this major issue. The owner responded that he would have to have pictures to prove there was an issue with rust on the frame as well as the report from the mechanic. I forwarded the entire report with pictures to both he and the sales manager. After they reviewed the report, they agreed there was an issue with the vehicle and agreed to take the vehicle back. The stated they would provide a refund of the purchase price minus the documentation and processing fees for the purchase of the vehicle ($500) and I was responsible for driving the vehicle back to there location. I told him I was not driving an unsafe vehicle back to them and felt it unfair to have to for transportation and having to pay the document and processing fees for a vehicle I was no longer purchasing. He reluctantly agreed to have the vehicle picked up, but was adamant on me paying the $500 processing fees. Having little leverage in the arbitration and not wanting to be stuck with a lemon, I accepted. After the agreement was reached, I told my daughter that we had to return her birthday gift becuase it was dangerous to drive. Needless to say, my daughter was upset and asked why someone would sell a vehicle in that condition. I had to explain that sometimes people are more concerned about their profit over their customers safety and that you need to make sure that what you are buying is is as represented. Also to confirm it is from someone who is reputable and make sure what you have someone you trust inspect a vehicle thouroughly. Silver lining?...hopefully the stupid tax we are paying on this interaction will be a life lesson for my daughter on how to deal with unscroupulous businesses in her future. I also hope the sales manager and the owner of Mebane Auto Group never have to suffer thru an experience like this when purchasing a vehicle for their young children. read more

Wow ! These folks far exceeded my expectations for a used car buying experience. I'm not in the area but was trying to get my daughter a car on short notice. Chris was amazingly helpful - communicated however I needed - by phone, email, text depending on what we were working out. Within two days he DELIVERED THE CAR TO HER on her schedule! Then took care of everything including getting the plates to her. It was a gamble buying a car online, but this worked out well - much better than I expected and it was because of Chris.
