Heard about this place and thought I'd give it a try. Arrived as a solo and waited next to several empty tables in a visibly half empty restaurant while a succession of staff approached and asked me if they could help. Finally I was turned away by staff member number 4 as I had no booking . Recommend either: 1. Avoid as the staff don't seem helpful and, lets face it, there are a lot of meat restaurants ; or 2. Book ahead for more than one person, as they really don't seem to like solo diners . As for the food? Wouldn't know. This was our first meal off of the long haul flight from the USA. we tried a cheeseburger, truffle fries and a rocket salad. The burger was very tasty and flavorful. We enjoyed the fries although it could have come with a little more aioli. The salad was just what I needed after a long flight. We like to order items to share and this meal was perfect for two. A few weeks ago the family were in town and at some point in the evening we wandered past the various eating establishments along the water at barangaroo. As we wandered, we glanced over the displayed menus (as you do). When we walked past Meat District Co, the daughter announced that she wanted to come here for her upcoming birthday dinner because "those burgers sound awesome" (I class this as a parenting win). Well, on the appointed day, her birthday (13th...both kids are officially teenagers.. I feel old) was duly celebrated with burgers at Meat District Co. And fine burgers they are indeed. Well cooked. Not greasy. Juicy. Really juicy. Well presented. And miraculousy, given the location, well priced. The birthday girl had a cheeseburger, I had a beef and brie burger, the missus had a lobster roll and the stomach on legs had a surf and turf burger because it looked like the biggest burger on the menu. They were all very tasty. None of the burgers come with salad or chips. They will set you back an extra 5 bucks, or you can do as we opted to and go for a separate side of each (if there are 3 or less of you, add the extra to your individual burgers, if there are 4 or more, the separate side is the more economical option). The drinks menu was good. They do wines, beers and cocktails with some mocktail options for those who don't drink. As it was her birthday daughter got a mocktail which I though was horribly sweet and fruity looking but she thought was fantastic. I opted for a more adult glass of red which was pretty good. All in all a good night. The only slightly odd note was that the uniform for the servers was a nice pants shirt and tie for the men but tiny daisy duke denim short shorts and tight t shirts for the ladies. Not sure that this sends quite the right gender equality message to a young lady. I'm guessing this uniform choice is for the benefit of their mostly businessman type clientele (which also doesn't send quite the right gender equality message to a young lady). Food was absolutely fantastic - for that I would give them at least 4 stars. The ribs, ah the ribs.... However, the night started badly when we arrived about 9pm on a Saturday night at the main entrance on Lime Street to a sign on the door that read "Private function - please use the entrance to the right". We interpreted this as those attending the private function should use the side entrance. After we entered and stood awkwardly for a few minutes, a lady who I assumed was the Manager, told us to use the other entrance and pointed out the sign, informing us that this upstairs section was the private function and we needed to use the other entrance. I pointed out that therefore they should make the sign less ambiguous because it was unclear what they meant to which she replied with a degree of attitude, "only to you". For the record as well, instead of almost pushing us out of the entrance and making us feel unwelcome, the other way to get to the downstairs areas for the non private function guests, would have been the internal stairs which downstairs guests were using to get to the bathroom upstairs anyway! I was willing to let this go and just enjoy the evening as is as the other staff were very friendly and attentive but my dining companion was clearly agitated the rest of the meal (even though, the ribs, ah the ribs...). I'm disappointed to have to give the restaurant such a low rating given how much I enjoyed the food but I don't enjoy getting attitude or smart comments from a restaurant manager at the start of the meal. read more

Meat District Co is one of the latest restaurants to open up in the tourist area that is King Street Wharf. They hail from the U.S. of A. and are pitching the farm to table approach (think hormone & steroid free cows and sustainable producers). The decor is casual/rustic with open spaces, metal chairs, and gold saws. The prices are reasonable (steaks, ribs, and hooks for around $30, burgers for around $15). I found my huge half rack of pork ribs tough and needing a few more slathers of sauce. Chips were good, service was slow. There's a lot of competition of the red meat variety in the immediate area surrounding Meat District Co. Unless they seriously up their game, I can't see myself gong back in a hurry. read more

Ordered kangaroo medium rare, it came out well done. Ours server never checked if our food was good, she disappeared. I called another guy,he was pleasant and fixed it! Server was no where to be found the entire night. Then they didn't let us split our bill. I booked this venue for my fiancé's birthday for a "Whisky Tasting Class" and the service and class were a huge disappointment. The marketing really makes this seems like they are the go to for whisky tasting, but in all honesty the marketing way over sold this experience and it was, quite frankly, terrible. They tasted 4x cheap whiskys with an inexperienced sommelier they could hardly hear over the noise of the restaurant (all for $120 per person!!!!). It was hard to order a drink and when they were finally able to flag a waiter, it took over 10 minutes to get their order. Not to mention that the table was cluttered because no one was clearing empty glasses and dishes - it was a mess. Hoppin place along Darling Harbor. We had the Kangaroo and Japanese burger, Kangaroo was pretty good, cooked well, mash that came with was also pretty good. Burger was ok, interesting, but not the best burger we've had. Service was ok here, seated quickly, orders taken, checked in on and we got out in a timely fashion. I would eat here again. read more

Great loc right on wharf. Went there for catch up dinner n drink w mate on work nighr. Cos salad and pork slider was presented very well. Taste was better than average. Location next to a club makes it convenient to dine then dance on a weekend. I would go back only for the location and palatable food. read more

It was a beautiful afternoon and we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Meat District Co. It is over two levels. The top level, perfect for a drink or two and downstairs is a huge space for your lunch, dinner or just a drink with friends. Certainly accommodates large groups too. An open kitchen, you can see the chefs at work. As the name suggests, it's mainly serving meats and we went for ribs, cooked perfectly and meat fell off the bone. We also got a hanging lamb skewer which was again, perfectly cooked. To accompany our meal, we went for sweet potato fries, and a refreshing kale, apple salad. It was a wonderful meal and came out fast too! For three people it was a lot of food, so sadly we couldn't fit in dessert! Next time. Has a good range of burgers too and options for the tourist, like kangaroo! Cocktails here are nice as well - make sure you get in for happy hour! Went here because Beer Deluxe next door was too crowded. The manager was very accommodating and found us a table for 10 after only a 10 minute wait. We almost walked out because the server would not split the bill between 5 couples. She asked the manager and again we were accommodated. We all ordered a hamburger. After a longer than usual wait half of the table got their food and Said everything was good. We waited and waited and waited some more for our order. When it finally came out one of the burgers was the wrong one. Rather than give the 2 right ones to the right people they sat the plates on another table as we hungrily watched them as they tried to sort it out. They realized what happened and then wondered what to do. We still watched our plate get colder and colder. They were going to redo the wrong order but my hubby was starved and usually is not fussy and he said rather than wait he'd eat the wrong order. We finally got our food. Yes it was cold and the meat was overcooked and dry. Hubby did not especially like the cranberry and brie combination on a burger. My 3 friends and I booked in advance for a farewell dinner for one of us. From the moment we arrived to settling the bill, everything went wrong. We were informed they had only reserved a table for 3, and we would need to wait until one available. Why another chair couldn't be placed on the reserved table is between them and their god. When we were finally seated, we were placed at a rickety camping table under the stairs. Our table never seemed to have a waiter assigned, instead we had to hail a waiter (with some effort) from our first order to the bill. Upon ordering we were informed that the 300g rib-eye had sold out and the Scotch fillet was the closest replacement. This isn't a problem on its own, but became one later. It took around 40 minutes from ordering for the food to arrive, and when it did, the steaks were anaemic, lukewarm and barely pushing 200g. It looked like a $12 RSL steak and chips, not what you would expect in darling harbour. It was barely 2cm thick, and the sauce was curdled and cold. By now we were hoping for a second round of drinks, and eventually caught the attention of a waiter. She brought our drinks really quickly, but spilled red wine all over the friend we were farewelling. Luckily, he'd kept the raincoat on, as he was suffering from exposure from our wait out the front. Eventually we decided to cut our losses, settle the bill, and get Macca's on the way home. We gave trying to get the bill served and went up to the counter to settle. It was at this point that we discovered that Meat District Co. think that a cold 200g scotch fillet is worth the same as a 300g rib-eye, a cool $42. After some convincing, they charged us for scotch fillets, making a bad evening slightly cheaper. read more

In one word Disappointing. In this day and age and with the numerous restaurants competing with each other for our business, I am surprised at the lack of service from this establishment. I stood at the hostess stand for a short time, not knowing it was seat yourself. I was greeted at my table in a few moments but after that, it went downhill. The men's room was a disaster with trash spread across the floor and no paper towels to dry your hands. I informed the wait staff who told me they would inform the manager. After consuming my meal of ribs and wings completely drowned in BBQ sauce, I got up to wash my hands only to discover after 30 minutes, the men's room was still trashed and no paper towels. The door to the women's room was open and sure enough, it was full of trash on the floor as well. I have no idea what the manager was doing but it's disappointing something as offering clean restrooms appears to be an afterthought. As for the wait staff, they never stopped during my meal to ask how it was, denying me the opportunity to mention the empty pepper mill and the pepper it should have contained was badly needed on my salad. The final blow was after asking for the bill, I was asked if I wanted to add a tip for such dismal service. If you want to eat at an establishment that is complacent towards its customers, than this is the place for you. If you want to be treated as a valued customer, keep looking. read more

Great place to dine right next to king st wharf with nice atmosphere. I took my friend who is visiting from the US to try their kangaroo steak and crocodile burger. He was too chicken to try the kangaroo steak because it is served rare. We tried the rib eye instead and it was evenly cooked throughout according to request. You know that feeling you get that makes you feel like you could stay in the restaurant all night? Where you feel so comfortable that you know you'd be welcome to stay? That's exactly what we didn't get here. From the moment we walked up to the 'wait here to be seated' sign, we felt so awkward and almost embarrassed to be there, like we were an annoyance. The staff took 2-3 minutes to even appear and then muttered something about going upstairs as they walked away from us. We hurriedly followed and were seated on the balcony by a nice warm heater. The food was good. Quite nice. My husband's burger was on the small side but did fill him up, my hot dog was yum. After being outwardly miffed to have us in her almost empty restaurant the waitress proceeded to move metal chairs around one table away from us until we got up and left. Saw this place and decided to try as a walk in. Beef medallions were great and so were the Beetroot chips! Very pleasant surprise.

The service was appalling and we complained several times but to no avail. Eventually the manager gave us free desserts. 40 minutes to get drinks and not even water for the table before then. But, the worst thing was that my credit card was skimmed by the staff and used for an international credit card transaction which my bank stopped. I know it was this restaurant as it was the only time I used the card on my trip to Sydney. I phoned to complain and I'm still waiting to hear back from the Manager. read more

Went here for dinner with my husband.. We knew nothing about the restaurant beforehand. We got a table quickly but it hadn't been cleaned from the last guests. We sat down & one of the service girls came over to clean it. Either she didn't like us or she was just stupid because she sprayed the cleaner at full strength onto the table, splashing the both of us in the process. We waited 15-20 minutes before someone came to take our order. Knowing this, we ordered everything we wanted - drinks & food. Our drinks came out pretty quickly. Then it took 30 minutes to get our fries. Our salad never came so we had to ask - about an hour or more total wait. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, our final dishes (burgers) never arrived either - 2 hours after order time. We finally flagged the waiter and threatened to cancel the order. He then tells us it's ready. Thanks dude for keeping us informed! Sad thing was that the restaurant wasn't even busy - barely any customers. Anyway, two stars cuz the food was ok.
