Thalia's service was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the experience and she was very knowledgeable and helpful with picking a meal. She recommended two wines and I'm not sure I got the right one in the end but it was enjoyable. I went with the suggestions she made rather than my regular choices and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. She even suggested I do half/half on the sides so that I could try two. For dessert, she recommended the fudge but said the macadamia cookie was popular. I'm a sucker for a warm cookie and some vanilla ice cream so I got the cookie. It was delicious. The place is quiet and a bit dim. Booked online, after moving back to Sydney. I had gone when I was living here before and it was basically the same. Chophouse is a good steakhouse without being exceptional. It provides really great dining options at a solid price. The ambiance is probably where it can do with some sprucing up. Service was really good. We had a bunch of starters with the old fashioned cocktails. Oysters, bread and carpaccio, all very good without being exquisite. Steak which was recommended, rib eye and wagyu rump cap, and was spot on enough for 3 and was well matched but we had someone taking care of that. After seeing a 3.9 rating on Yelp, I decided to try the signature Lambchops at Chophouse. Unfortunately, I was disappointed beyond belief. I was expecting a well-marinated and broiled rack of lamb, but instead, I was served two small pieces of midloins in a plate with mint flavoured sugar syrup that was supposed to be mint jelly. The lamb had no flavor, no garnish, and was not even cooked properly--it was hard to chew. The portions were too small (nowhere close to the 400 grams claimed in the description) to be considered a main dish, especially for $52. They did not have any bread; the only option was a slice of sourdough for an additional $14, which I refused. To top it off, the server asked if I would be done by 7:00 PM. Spent time in Sydney over the summer. Headed to the Chophouse with 4-5 friends. Was quite disappointed in the service actually. Young lady sommelier was great but waiter was MIA. Ended up having to ask the sommelier to go find our waiter. Interactions were all business / no warm introduction etc etc.. just arrived at the table as was like "ready to order?" For the $ we dropped, I would go suggest Rockpool is a better meal/experience. read more

I have been to this place a few times now and it doesn't disappoint. Higher end steak house in the CBD that has a very good ambience. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a feature wall of wine. The service here is pretty good and all table servers have been friendly and accommodating. I have ordered steak and the roast pork on my visits and if I had a choice, I would probably pick the steak over the pork. They have both a pork tomahawk (share between 2) or a beef tomahawk (share between 4). Be warned, the steaks don't come with sides so make sure you order some sides. If I had 1 gripe, is that some of the tables are too close together. read more

We went here for our last dinner in Australia and Chophouse did not disappoint. We were specifically looking for a steakhouse that was not crazy ridiculously expensive (didn't think it was any more expensive than what you would pay at a nice steakhouse in the States). We started with a half dozen oysters and a carafe of white wine. The oysters were great and the mignonette was wonderful and had a smokey flavor to it. The white wine paired wonderfully. For our mains I got a bone in rib eye type steak and my husband got one of the special steaks that was a rumproast full blood wagyu. My steak was good, but his was phenomenal. I would highly recommend a full blood wagyu steak for anyone dinning there in the future, it would be what I order if we are ever there again. We also got a carafe of red wine and the mushroom side to go with our mains. It was nice that there was good wine available by the carafe so that we could have both a white and red with out meal. For dessert we had two scoops of ice cream and the flavors were tropical and delicious. The decor and vibe of the restaurant were perfect for a date night and last hurrah in Sydney. Please excuse the pun for a title but it was just too apt. The chophouse is situated on Bligh St in the City, down towards Circular Quay. This carniverous dream is surrounded by some pretty serious competition, but holds its own offering excellent service and quality meal choices. This is an upmarket grill is set up in a building that once housed a cinema. The interior is layered with nicely set tables, a stylish bar and decorated with butchery antiques such as scales, chopping blocks etc. The drink menu had many great options including apertifs, cocktails, mocktails, wine, digestif's. We tried a few cocktails the Tropical Blush - ketel one, Liquor 43, peach bitters, passionfruit, grapefruit, a nice fruity cocktail. The Tokyo mule - tokinoka, gekkeikan sake, yuzu, ginger beer, nori. This one was impressive, great flavours and nicely balanced. For entrees we tried the charcuterie with amazing cured meats including wagyu bresola, n'duja tradizional, capocolo, served with pickles, mustard fruit and house made lavosh and crutons was the goods. The figs served with speck/jamon, goats curd and almond another great starter with great flavour combinations. For sides to accompany our mains the meaty porkbelly and scallop salad, with wombok, corriander, pea shoots, tendrils, soba noodles and a mushroom vinigairette was huge. The decadent creamy mash, so bad but sooo good. For mains the slow cooked Beef rib in a house made BBQ sauce was butter, melt in your mouth tender. I absolutely loved this and kept wanting more. The wagyu 6+ rump cap was perfectly cooked served with heirloom tomatoes and choice of condiments. If you still have room or even if not, and if you're a chocolate fan, the choclate bar made from milk and dark chocolate with hazel nuts and nutella is a must. thank you to the chophouse for their amazing food and hospitality iàn particular Robyn the manager who was one of the best front of house staff we have had the pleasure of meeting. chophouse makes the cut. read more

A friend of mine was approaching the end of her 6 months of employment at Chophouse so we went to eat a ton of steak while she still had her discount. Wow, just wow. I feel like no steak will ever be as good now. They have a scotch fillet special right now and it has the perfect marble and just trust me and get it. The yam fries were good too and the scallops were also delicious. My friend really likes their slaw too but I wasn't super into it. The espresso martinis and Oh Canada cocktail were superb and special thanks for the Canadian content...bacon flavored ice cube...amen! We ended up spending a lot of money but we ordered a ton and it was worth the price. Seems like they train their servers pretty well too! read more

Had heard good things about this place, and a friend suggested it for dinner. There's an American feel to this place, very American steakhouse kind of feel with the good customer service to boot. We made a booking for a Tuesday night and was surprised how busy it was. We started off with drinks - got a Lychee Blush cocktail that was pretty nice. We ordered food - got the lamb chops and it was delicious!! The meat was tender and so tasty. It came with a mint jelly sauce. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes which was super mashed and buttery and a side of green beans. The dinner was delicious! We decided to get ice cream and the waiter recommended the Sticky Date Pudding. It came with a honey comb and chocolate sauce but was already very sweet on its own. I definitely like this place! I wouldn't usually bother with restaurants in the CBD - generally, their attention to the cashed up corporate crowd makes for stuffy ambience and high menu prices. Not the case at all at Chophouse - this Blight Street diner was far more relaxed than fellow city venues, without compromising on quality of service or food. I ended up here last week with a group of friends after work - the evening started with drinks in their busy terrace space; later, we moved inside to a large table that backed onto some comfy banquette seating. While their dinner menu does focus on prime quality red meat, there was plenty of variety to choose from - my friend's barbecued octopus salad with watercress, roasted eggplant and capsicum, pomegranate vinaigrette and cubes of grilled haloumi was an elegant main course dish. I went for a more traditional steakhouse meal of minute steak smothered in café de Paris butter, to which I added a side of cauliflower gratin laced with gruyere and a hint of truffle oil and topped with sourdough breadcrumbs - decadent and delicious. read more

So the chophouse was... well an experience! And one I would repeat! First off the good... wait... this review is almost all good! I had an amazing fillet cooked medium rare and cooked... damn near perfectly! I ended up having two glasses of the Momo Pino Noir to wash it down. The menu said all steaks came with a sauce... I was worried about the sauces... a good steak should speak for itself, but my waitress clarified that the sauces are always brought on the side. I breathed a huge sigh of relief... No longer worried my steak was going to come out anothered in something I may or may not like, I ordered the Mushroom sauce, and was glad I did... it was a great addition to my plate every other bite or two as I sliced away at my 200gram (which to us Americans means 7 ounce) fillet. When it was brought out I was also asked if I would like any mustards or horseradish, and while I am a mustard fan, good beef always is complemented by good horseradish, so I asked for a little of that. SPOILER ALERT! The horseradish was the ONLY disappointment of the meal. The horseradish was in a cream base and honestly was pretty weak, you could taste it, but barely. I set that aside and simply relished the beautiful piece of beef and occasionally a little mushroom sauce in tandem. I also ordered a side of the broccolini, and while it was a portion that was clearly designed to be shared (very decent portion size) it was a tad heavy on the butter (which by no means ruined it's flavor, but may have quashed any health benefits of attempting to eat a little green with my red meat). The wine was also excellent and while my server disappeared (from my table) for a little longer than I would have liked at one point, I could see she was crazy busy arranging tables for a party about to arrive and taking care of her other tables, so despite the Aussie "no tip" policy I went ahead and broke the rules for her as it was by no fault of her own that she was dealing with other things. The bad: Ummm... nothing, especially if you like weak horseradish or don't like horseradish! If you love strong horseradish with your beef... maybe bring a backup in your pocket. The damage: Here in the land of OZ this will likely be the most money I spend on dinner (for one) as it was a $94 bill. Keep in mind though that is Oz dollars, so in uh'merican doll-hairs it was roughly $60 bucks. read more

Chophouse gets a lot of hype. Maybe I don't know enough about marble scoring to appreciate the place properly. The steak was good, but was it 10 times as good as a medium rare sirloin from my local? Probably not. After visiting twice my opinion stands. The food is pretty great, but it's way overpriced, as is the wine list. Chophouse caters to the CBD tourist and business crowd. It sells itself as a magical carnivore experience, and a place to indulge in some carnal need to eat red meat and drink red wine (which I entirely understand!), but falls short... The tables are too close together, it's noisy and the service is painfully slow. The so-called experience is pretty disappointing - like when you were a kid and saw the guy in the mickey mouse costume backstage, with his head under his arm, chain smoking. If you want to pay $100++ a head for an amazing dining experience... go somewhere else. read more

This is a great place! The reviews are a bit all over the place so we were a bit hesitant. We found the restaurant to be classy and upscale but not stuffy. We were seated upstairs ... quieter up there. The staff was great! Server answered all our questions (Americans unfamiliar with the name of cuts of beef used in Australia). The steaks were delicious and perfectly cooked. The sauces were tasty (you get one and can choose additional sauces for a nominal charge). Sides (we selected cauliflower, Paris mash and onion rings) were all excellent. We felt the prices were reasonable for the quality of the meal, however, this isn't an inexpensive night out. My girlfriend got the tenderloin which was very good though. We also got shoestring fries and steamed green beans. I'm American so maybe I'm just not used to it but they were the same size as regular McDonald's fries and actually pretty much tasted like them too, so we were a bit disappointed since we thought shoestring fries would be thinner. The steamed green beans just tasted plain although they supposedly have garlic and herbs. Finally we got a dessert which was very good. I don't remember the name but it had popcorn in it. Service was kind of hit or miss with some people being extremely enthusiastic and kind and others who looked like they didn't want to be there. Smoked Pear Martini (AUD$19): Not bad for a Whiskey cocktail, and they rimmed the glass with smashed pork cracklings. -Zucchini Popper (AUD$15): Prior to having this Zucchini Popper, we had one at Waterman's Lobster Co and that set the bar much higher. -Prawn & Calamari (AUD$18): Batter was nice and light, simple seasoning. -Aged Delmonico Steak 400g (AUD$55): Had a subtle aged flavor, but nothing amazing. Came here on a very chilly Tuesday night so couldn't wait to tuck into some good winter grub. I can't express enough how much I enjoyed the steak here. I ordered a medium rare Petit fillet MB2 (the leanest of all the cuts) and it came out medium rare as requested! Slicing through this steak was a pleasure as was matching it with the baked winter vegetable salad, highly recommend. Now onto dessert - Wow. How does one choose from all the wonderful combo's available, turkish coffee ice cream?? Yes please. Unfortunately, I decided against dessert but my friend ordered the cherry and coconut icecream with chocolate sauce and honeycomb, looked incredible. They offered to take our jackets and scarves to the cloak room, they took some time out to take us through their specials and recommend a good drop and catered to some changes on the menu.
