If you're looking for a stuffy and pretentious steakhouse, you may enjoy this place. The establishment is nice but the service is atrocious and the food doesn't live up to expectations. The beautiful decor is rather wasted on the atmosphere the staff and the lighting create here. There is a way to make old school feel cool but this wasn't it. Despite it not being busy (or maybe because of it?), service was absolutely atrocious. Beyond just being rude and stuck up for the most part, they actually just failed at basic services you expect at top end restaurants - they rarely came over, they never cleaned up the table, and the cutlery wasn't even set properly at times. Heck, they even seem to ignore or not understand dining etiquette placement of cutlery for when you pause, are ready for the next dish, are finished, etc. Maybe it would have been different if I were wearing a suit and tie like everyone else there... sigh. As far as the actual food, it was a bit disappointing. The quality of the steaks was high but the preparation was mediocre. Maybe they just didn't have their A team on a random weekday but I don't know how you manage to mess up a quality cut; part of it is obviously also how long it takes for the steak to make it from the kitchen to your table. The best parts of the meal were the side dishes and dessert. That should tell you everything you need to know. The prices were high but in line with expectations. Service and general execution were way below the line though making it not a great value. It's rare that I go to a steakhouse that uses high quality cuts and I don't end up recommending it as a must but this is one of those times.

Words can't even express how much i enjoyed dining at this restaurant. After 23 hours of travel from Seattle to Sydney we decided to have a nice dinner to celebrate. The food made us forget our jet lag. The staff were amazing and so helpful, they gave us so many wonderful recommendations for both food and drinks. The food was delicious, when we left we couldn't stop talking about, on our last day of our trip we decided to come back for one last taste. People around us were either very dressed up or very casual so definitely a combo relaxed atmosphere.

I came across this restaurant walking to breakfast one morning and noticed this beautiful Art Deco building. Only then did I notice Rockpool Bar & Grill. I had heard of it through my connections and I made a lunch booking for the next day. I was greeted by a very polite host and was promptly seated at a comfortable table. The interior of building is stunning: Large greens columns leading up to the tall ceiling, a large wine glass display, and a view of the kitchen where all the magic happens. There were too many items on this menu that seemed very appealing that it was hard to narrow it down. I settled with a steak with a side of Mac n Cheese and I wasn't disappointed. The wait staff was also very attentive and courteous. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to coming back.

I came here with some co-workers looking to get our meat fix by having a nice steak. We were able to get walk in seating at the bar area. My rating is based on: Food: 4.5 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars Service: 4.5 stars Value: 4 stars We ordered half a dozen oysters as a starter. The oysters were fantastic. They had a nice brininess to them and were perfect without any of the dressing provided. Would definitely order these again. I decided on ordering the dry aged bone in ribeye for my steak. Decently priced and high quality meat. Steak was cooked properly at a medium rare and had a nice sear on the outside. Not out of this world stems but rather was very solid. My coworkers had the Wagyu strip steak, which was good but I preferred my ribeye. The sides we ordered were the Mac and cheese and the Brussel sprouts. Both side dishes were a success. Mac and cheese is really rich like it should be but if you aren't expecting that it could be off putting. Brussel sprouts had a nice char and no bitterness the two main things I look for in Brussel sprouts. Not a cheap meal but is high quality and worth the price. I would come back for the oysters alone and if I'm in Sydney wanting a nice steak.

We went with co-workers and followed the advice of other reviewers here and ate the fish options.... best decision we could have made. We've been here a few times, love the Gotham City vibe, it's a Big Night Out place which Sydney doesn't have much of and Rockpool Grill does so well. However, I know it's all about the steaks here, but we find them a little pricey, though I'd fight you for the brisket or the chicken with artichokes!!! This time we had Taste of the Sea and seafood crudo -both expertly prepared and delicious, and fish mains, Coral Trout and Whiting, both cooked over charcoal. With the amazing side dishes, this was one of my favourite meals of the year

    Lloyd M.

Started with crudo (tuna, salmon and kingfish) that was probably the highlight of the meal, the fish was very fresh and expertly prepared. Went with the bone in ribeye, cooked perfectly and served sliced, which was a nice touch. Very thin compared to a bone-in ribeye in the US, very thin. The greens on the side were also surprisingly good.

We didn't listen to the reviews and didn't order any of the meats --- I would've but Im not a fan of meat. However, the service was good and 1 out of the 4 dishes was phenomenal -- highly recommend the pumpkin and sweet potatoes and highly recommend NOT getting the pavlova. To be fair, we didn't know what pavlova is but it was not delicious. We weren't interested in eating the passion fruit marshmallows that seemed to have been mentioned a lot but still wanted to try out something new cause it was my bday dinner but the passion fruit pavolva pretty much tasted like a giant, cake-slice sized marshmallow w a whipped topping. Needless to say, we were only able to take one bite and left the rest behind. Not delicious. Other items were ok, just not worth the price for what it is. If you're a vegetarian or vegan I would not come here..... only seems worthwhile if ya like meat. Nice ambience but it does get quite loud downstairs but the mezanine is much more quiet, for those wanting to be able to have a convo w their company. Make reservations if you decide to come cause they get really busy.

The setting was very cool and if felt like you were in a bank scene from gotham city. The attitude of my waitress was very unfriendly and cold. Everyone of the wait staff and hostess were very friendly and awesome. Its supposed to be a revered steak house so i'll start with the steak. I got an Australian wagyu, which was very mediocre in terms of quality. It was cooked medium rare, which i like, but didn't have the exception tastes and texture of well executed steaks from a top steak house. I was most impressed with the seafood sampler, taste of the sea. Wonderfully cured or marinated fishes and seafood. The cocktails were also pretty good but not strong. The red wine i had with the steak was pretty good.

Came here on a Business dinner, and have to say was pretty impressed. The Ambiance is art deco 1940's, an old bank converted to a swanky Sydney bar and grill. We plowed through a vast selection of fresh oysters, which were fantastic, Steaks of various cuts, braised shortribs, all of which were quite expensive, but tasty. You can tell its all about the Live fire grilled Beef here, so don't miss that. Their bar is deep with talent, and pour a mean cocktail and look good in the process, in their vests and Jackets. I'd recommend this place and go again. I don't think its a "not to miss experience" but a very solid business dinner choice.

Had my hopes up for this place and was looking forward to having a steak, but left with just a meh experience. I didn't have a reservation so chanced it that they would have a table for me at 5:30 and was happily given a seat in the mezzanine - (if you're a solo dinner I would probably listen to all the tips and sit at the bar as the mezzanine is a bit sterile). Anyway, the service by my waitress was lovely and she was really helpful. I ordered the 36 day aged rib eye and the puréed potatoes. Given the prices here compared to other places, I had high hopes for my meal but left disappointed. My steak tasted bland and looked a bit unappetizing! I was tempted to send it back but felt guilty for wasting food. My steak was under-seasoned and it looked like it was just cooked on a flat top. Compared to the prices for what I pay in HK is why I gave this 3* but to be honest, if I was to ever return I doubt I would order a steak from here.

Well, today we're checking out Bistecca... a steakhouse speakeasy of sorts! Here's how it went and why it was rated #45 of the top 101 steakhouses in the entire world... Atmosphere/Appearance: Deep in downtown Sydney hidden in an alleyway in the entrance to this literal hidden gem. Lol. Once through the door and down the stairs you're taken to a very dark dimly lit, but very old-school looking tavern. It's a small room, but essentially a waiting room/cocktail lounge for you. Once it's your turn to head into the dining room the door open to the brightly lit room, your phones are locked away in a drawer which you have access to via a key and you're guided to your seat! I LOVED this experience because now you're forced to just live and be in the moment. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything that's happening. The tables and chairs are scattered throughout the room and you just, BE. Like the good 'ol days before smart phones. Service: I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent. We had no issues at all. Food: The menu is extremely simple. You're here for steak. That's it. The steak is sold in 100g increments. So you order by weight. We ordered 900g and the steak was so incredible we both wish we could've gone to maybe 1.2kg. Lol. That's a LOT of steak still, but this does include the weight of the bone. The feature is a large, T-bone steak cut from Australian-grown Chianina cattle and grilled over charcoal. It's recommended to be cooked medium-rare. It seriously was Heavenly. I don't even remember what sides we got. That's how good this steak was. Lol. Value: The steak is $19 AUD ($11.84 USD) per 100 grams (3.5 oz). The conversion can trip you up, so for example, the ORIGINAL steakhouse in NYC (Delmonico's) sells their 18 oz. T-Bone for $76.00 USD. The same size steak here would cost you around $65.00 and it's the #45 best steakhouse in the world. Delmonico's is not even on that list. Do what you wish with that information. Lol. The sides were appropriately priced. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and so did my wife. We still think about Bistecca years after we've been there and it's 100% worth making some good reservations as far in advance as possible because this place is small and will always be packed!

Compared to United States prices, I find them actually quite reasonable for very high quality steaks. The restaurant is nicely decorated; service was great. It is located in the Rock district. The oysters were good but practically all oysters in Australia are good so nothing special here; however, the stars of the show were the steaks. They offered a cut of steak called Platinum Eye of the Rump which I've not had before in US so gave that a try. It's supposed to be Wagyu beef and did not disappoint. At $79 Australian dollars, that translated to about $52 US dollars and I would say you it was well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was super tender and beefy. The ribeye was a larger cut and more expensive at $110 Australian dollars or around $73 US dollars. We enjoyed the ribeye as well, but the eye of the rump stood out more. The steaks come with a choice of steak cut fries or salad so we ordered one of each. Both sides were exceptional as well. I ate at another steak restaurant in Australia where the sides were "meh" but I found these well made. Overall, I highly recommend this steak restaurant.

Service was mostly good but oddly slow in a few spots, the wine list was on iPad, and our pomme puree (mashed potatoes) came quite late. Steak was very good. MB7+ tomahawk is a terrific presentation, perfectly cooked to your specification, and described in detail. If you want the very highest quality (MB9) unfortunately thay was not on the menu when we visited, but it was surprisingly difficult find higher than MB7 on the regular menu of any of their competitors so I digress... (keyword: regular) Rest of the food was excellent. Little gem salad and chips are included with your tomahawk, the pomme puree was deliciously creamy if you like creamy mashed potatoes, broccolini hit the spot. And the scallops, while modest in appearance, won high praise. As someone who normally has a hard time going out for steak, given I can almost always make a better one at home, I do have to say that for a special occasion, 6HEAD was on the mark.
