I just don't really understand this restaurant. The restaurant advertises itself on serving "modern australian" food and charges a lot for what it actually gives/represents. I came to the restaurant clueless about what Modern Australian really entails and left with an even more confused perception. Surely Modern australian food isn't a slab of steak with some weird concoction that sounds good on paper but tastes like soup dashed with some off tasting herb....or a piece of grilled fish. We ordered grilled prawns, scallops, pork main, poached trout, gnocchi and the dome chocolate dessert (we have previously tried the steak and weren't fans). The scallop dish was basically scallop sashimi with some chili powder spread on top (it tasted like the chili powder you put in ramen). I don't really understand why it was served this way as the saving grace of the dish was the freshness of the scallops. The grilled prawns was pretty standard. The produce and quality of the seafood was fresh but the sauce....sigh it was basically corn chowder. The pork main was Chinese food gone wrong...with a stale prawn chip. The poached trout was 50 something dollars and it was a piece of fish decorated with a few pieces of thinly sliced vegetables and something they called Calamari risotto. I would call it a few millimeters of calamari in green couscous. The gnocchi was okay. The dome looked pretty cool but that was about it. It looked like it was ice cream covered in chocolate with some ugly hints of ginger. and to top it all off...one of our waiters was this blond faded women who was soo gone that I wondered if she was high on some drugs. She poured water so carelessly that it splashed on my face and was soo unresponsive. Not a fan but hey...nice pictures?

Amazing. I really can't fault this place. Sure it's expensive but we know that going in. I've been here twice now, both for work, and both times I have been whisked away to flavour country. In my personal opinion it's on par (if not rivals) Rockpool. Our recent trip saw us seated in the private dining room with 29 of us. At first I didn't like how there were 5 separate tables for all of us but after awhile I realised we could actually talk to more people around us than we could have if we were all seated at one long table. We had a group party menu and could choose between steak, snapper and gnocchi. As I don't eat beef or fish I got the gnocchi and it was so damn good. We also had sides of seasoned chips and green beans. There was also some salad with grapefruit that I wasn't a fan of but hey you can't win them all right? The complimentary brioche melts in your mouth, heavenly. I do have to say though, the tomato salad with mozzarella entree, while good, is not the best I have had. On the other hand, my coworker ordered the beef tartare with beetroot and said it was the best she had ever eaten... ever. The dessert?? My lord I don't even know what it was but it was beautiful. Something straight out of a Masterchef elimination round. Honeycomb and cinnamon love on a plate. If you're heading out for a special occasion and want some damn good food wine, try out Black. Check out the photos to see a variety of our meals (and the beautiful dessert). Also, the group booking process was easy and professional. One of the better places I've had the privilege of booking through for a corporate event.

The toothfish was amazingly delicious. The host service was ok but the water was nice and helpful. 9 points to the restaurant out of 10.

The hot service was ok, we didn't make a reservation but we waited for only 10 mins to be seated. Unfortunately the hostess set other group of non-reservation guests first instead of us, it's just doesn't felt that good but other than that the food was amazing.

Amazing views of the city, friendly staff, orgasmic food located at Star City... you can't good wrong with savouring some amazing wagyus... reds... fresh seafood... what more could I say? I'm a BLACK loyal customer!

Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to its expectations for me. Famous for having the best steaks in Sydney, I felt that I have had better steaks at other restaurants as it lacked flavour and juicyness. It did not melt in the mouth as I expected it too. On the positive side, the service was exceptional. Before we ordered they asked if we had any food allergies.. I have not experienced this at a restaurant before. The sides were average (we ordered the fries, Mac and cheese and the broccolini). The steak is served on its own so it is recommended to get sides to accompany the steak. The star for me was the velvet infused martini! Absolutely delishious and was singing with freshness and flavour! I probably won't go again, but worth the experience as a one off.

After having received a $50 voucher to Black by Ezard, my bf and I were ecstatic to try out the prestigious restaurant for ourselves! In order to maximise our value we aimed to spend around $50 for lunch between the two of us which was achieved by ordering two sides (chips, mac and cheese), and about 8 oysters! yumyum. The serving size of the chips and mac 'nd cheese were for sure smaller than expected, and less tasty than we had hoped. The oysters were also quite small, but we assumed such beforehand. The red wine vinegar dip for the oysters, however, was deliciously tangy and pretty much the highlight and redeemer of our whole experience there! The atmosphere and service was professional and classy - we expected nothing less! Overall, I feel like the food was too pricey for what it was, and if we do come back here, it'd only be to feel fancy again :)

Where the elite dine. I wonder what it is about a restaurant that makes it feel like it is the place to be. Whatever it is, that je ne s'ais quoi. It certainly persists here at Black by Ezard. This is a very top end steak and grill. there is a fantastic bar situated in the restaurant - it is rustic and bears testimony to grandeur. It is formal dress in the restaurant if you want to be taken seriously and reservations are prefered during busy periods but by 9pm walk in's are available. Be stunned by the view of the bay and glimpse of the harbor bridge, a really great opportunity to wear your best dress, shoes and splash on a bit of your make up.

Their signature dish! its was freaken awesome!!!

You have to order a steak and the bone marrow. It was the best steak and bone marrow I have ever had. We ordered white beans which were good. I couldn't take a picture of our food or dining area. Well, today we're checking out Bistecca... a steakhouse speakeasy of sorts! Here's how it went and why it was rated #45 of the top 101 steakhouses in the entire world... Atmosphere/Appearance: Deep in downtown Sydney hidden in an alleyway in the entrance to this literal hidden gem. Lol. Once through the door and down the stairs you're taken to a very dark dimly lit, but very old-school looking tavern. It's a small room, but essentially a waiting room/cocktail lounge for you. Once it's your turn to head into the dining room the door open to the brightly lit room, your phones are locked away in a drawer which you have access to via a key and you're guided to your seat! I LOVED this experience because now you're forced to just live and be in the moment. The kitchen is wide open and you can see everything that's happening. The tables and chairs are scattered throughout the room and you just, BE. Like the good 'ol days before smart phones. Service: I can't remember the name of our server, but he was excellent. We had no issues at all. Food: The menu is extremely simple. You're here for steak. That's it. The steak is sold in 100g increments. So you order by weight. We ordered 900g and the steak was so incredible we both wish we could've gone to maybe 1.2kg. Lol. That's a LOT of steak still, but this does include the weight of the bone. The feature is a large, T-bone steak cut from Australian-grown Chianina cattle and grilled over charcoal. It's recommended to be cooked medium-rare. It seriously was Heavenly. I don't even remember what sides we got. That's how good this steak was. Lol. Value: The steak is $19 AUD ($11.84 USD) per 100 grams (3.5 oz). The conversion can trip you up, so for example, the ORIGINAL steakhouse in NYC (Delmonico's) sells their 18 oz. T-Bone for $76.00 USD. The same size steak here would cost you around $65.00 and it's the #45 best steakhouse in the world. Delmonico's is not even on that list. Do what you wish with that information. Lol. The sides were appropriately priced. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and so did my wife. We still think about Bistecca years after we've been there and it's 100% worth making some good reservations as far in advance as possible because this place is small and will always be packed!

This was 1 of the best meals we've had here in Sydney with a great waterfront view Staff is nice and a great dining experience. My wife and I shared the Lamb Hook and a side of fries. The fries had some rosemary salt on them and were very good. The Lamb Hook was amazing. There were big chunks of lamb that was lightly seasoned and cooked to a medium temperature. The meat was tender and very good. The salad had a nice tasting vinaigrette and the meal also came with a gravy that complimented the lamb very well. The food was amazing. Everything the servers brought out to the surrounding tables all looked good as well. I definitely recommend coming here to eat. The prices are reasonably affordable too.

We were seated downstairs in their covered outdoor seating area. They also have indoor seating upstairs. Service wasn't too bad overall but they really could have checked on us more often after they had delivered our food. The food was kind of mixed. A couple in the group had ordered steaks and they were bland and tough. I ordered the Kangaroo for the table and we got that medium rare. Super tender and while it could have used more seasoning, the sauce we got with it paired perfectly. For myself I got the burger and beef ribs combo. For me this is where things go down hill. The beef ribs were TOUGH, hard to bite through and get off of the bone. As for the burger it was pretty dry but luckily I had the sauce from the kangaroo to fix that. I can say that the fries were perfectly cooked though. They have a number of cocktails to choose from but the beer menu was pretty limited.

Compared to United States prices, I find them actually quite reasonable for very high quality steaks. The restaurant is nicely decorated; service was great. It is located in the Rock district. The oysters were good but practically all oysters in Australia are good so nothing special here; however, the stars of the show were the steaks. They offered a cut of steak called Platinum Eye of the Rump which I've not had before in US so gave that a try. It's supposed to be Wagyu beef and did not disappoint. At $79 Australian dollars, that translated to about $52 US dollars and I would say you it was well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was super tender and beefy. The ribeye was a larger cut and more expensive at $110 Australian dollars or around $73 US dollars. We enjoyed the ribeye as well, but the eye of the rump stood out more. The steaks come with a choice of steak cut fries or salad so we ordered one of each. Both sides were exceptional as well. I ate at another steak restaurant in Australia where the sides were "meh" but I found these well made. Overall, I highly recommend this steak restaurant.

Inside has a more formal ambiance we appreciated, but outside - assuming no cruise ship in the way - is probably the way to go for views, as we requested an inside top floor table with a view and didn't get much of one; turns out not many tables inside with a view. Service was mostly good but oddly slow in a few spots, the wine list was on iPad, and our pomme puree (mashed potatoes) came quite late. Steak was very good. MB7+ tomahawk is a terrific presentation, perfectly cooked to your specification, and described in detail. If you want the very highest quality (MB9) unfortunately thay was not on the menu when we visited, but it was surprisingly difficult find higher than MB7 on the regular menu of any of their competitors so I digress... (keyword: regular) Rest of the food was excellent. Little gem salad and chips are included with your tomahawk, the pomme puree was deliciously creamy if you like creamy mashed potatoes, broccolini hit the spot. And the scallops, while modest in appearance, won high praise. As someone who normally has a hard time going out for steak, given I can almost always make a better one at home, I do have to say that for a special occasion, 6HEAD was on the mark.
