Happened upon this steakhouse from the 'Essentials of Australia Guidebook'. We went early, 5 pm walk up and in, hostess found a location where we could enjoy the scenery and people walking by. Our waitperson-Gil-was very cordial and entertaining. We each ordered separate entrees to taste test. Oh and by the way 'entrees' in Australia are considered appetizers. We had the Calamari, very good, very fresh. My travel mate had the kangaroo, yes that is right, kangaroo on the menu. It was a toss up between tasting like liver and venison but either way a big no for me. I had a steak (I'm from Texas do not come for me) and my husband had the Barramundi (Fish). Very very very good. All in all we enjoyed our meal, with wine and dessert. Loved the Crème Brûlée and the sticky rice pudding, best dessert out there. My mom wanted to try a type of food Australia is known for. According to google...Barramundi it is. Getting in a night time stroll along Darling Harbor when we noticed this place. No crowds, no lines, just a smiling hostess. We looked over the menu and they serve Barramundi. We made sure to confirm with the hostess their operating hours before continuing our walk. On our way back, we were on the fence about this place until we saw that this place was now booming and appeared to have to open table in sight. I say "appeared" because they fill the tables closest to the harbor first and there were many open tables on the inside, closest to the kitchen. The restaurant overlooks the harbor but there's no great view. The hostess was quick to seat us and remembered us when we returned. Server was slow to take our order and come back with our check. Cooks worked quickly and the wait wasn't long for our food. As for what we ordered, I'm allergic to seafood so mom ordered the Grilled Barramundi with Broccolini, shaved fennel and lemon cream. She said it was ok so I'll take her word for it. The rest of us ordered Carbonara, Grainge Scotch Fillet, and the kid's Chicken Tenders. According to my mom, the best thing was the Chicken Tenders. One of the great things about Sydney is the endless number of food places there are. The list just goes on and on and on. But the main reason I came here was because they had Kangaroo steak on their menu and that's what I ended up ordering. The verdict, tasty and tender and surprisingly delicious. My boyfriend and I wanted to have a little taste of everything so we ended up sharing it all. It was perfect. I come here every year for special occasions. Each and every single time I've been it's been fantastic and consistent. The views are beautiful of the harbour and the water, and the atmosphere is generally very relaxed and chill. Staff are always friendly and attentive and I've only ever had an issue once, which they quickly resolved. With all this craziness going on I thought we might need to wait awhile for our food but luckily it arrived in about 15-20mins. Hey Angus, it's nice to 'meat' you (get it?!). Haha, okay sorry for being stupid. But in all honesty, I don't think Angus and I will become friends. I try to avoid Darling Harbor at all costs. In my humble opinion, it is too touristy and has no character. In fact, it reminds me of soulless development you may find in cities Orlando, where culture is fabricated. The reason I went to I'm Angus was simply that I wanted steak. The outside of the restaurant is actually beautiful, with dense ivy cloaking the entrance. Its interior is clean and hip, but nothing distinctly unique about it. The menu is pretty cool, as it features a diagram of a cow and shows you which steak comes from which part of the animal. Below, it describes the different cooking temperatures that you can have your steak, from blue to well done. I ordered a sirloin steak medium rare, which actually came out medium. It was a 300 gram steak that set me back $37.50, a price much too high for my sirloin. All the other steaks hover around $30 to $40. I saw a table that ordered the ribs, which looked great. I still thought it was overpriced at $44 for a full rack. Maybe I'm a bit frustrated because in the US I can find identical meats for half the price, but neither the food nor the service at I'm Angus was anything to write home about. read more

This place is definitely one of the highlights of Darling Harbour, amazing steaks on the water with a good option of wines and entrees. I have been here a few times but on this occasion I was here for an important VIP dinner and was very impressed with the response to very specific seating requests. The service was also excellent but was slightly confusing as every waiter seemed to do everything. I'm more a fan when restaurants having a hosting waiter and then helpers. Since it was so close to the hotel, I decided to stroll down for an early dinner/late lunch. A row of restaurants line the Wharf. This restaurant had indoor seating as well as patio seating but each half flowed into the other since there was no wall separating the "in" from the "out." I sat on the patio, a perfect place to people-watch. Tried the kangaroo fillet with mashed potatoes and what I think was a balsamic reduction. After a long day of sight seeing and walking around the Harbour we settled on Im Angus for supper as they had a lovely patio area and though it wasn't the nicest or warmest of days, it didn't matter as they had outdoor heaters. Came here with the extended family and the service was quite slow. We had to wait so long and had two people to go and ask for some service, even for water. Our food came out later on and a lot of our stuff wasn't cooked properly. We had more than 3 plates of steak completely undercooked. One of my family members ordered the children's meal and had to wait an extra 20 mins after finishing his meal to get two scoops of ice cream and some chocolate sauce on top! My husband and I were looking forward to try their F1 M6+ wagyu. We called twice on the same day to make sure we have the reservation. But when we arrived at the restaurant on time, they still couldn't find our reservation. But we got a seat. It was about 8 pm and it was quiet busy. 10 mins after we were seated, our waiter came bluntly to ask us if we were ready to order. I ordered a dozen of oysters. He repeated to me that if I wanted 12 oysters. Didn't know I was ordering the baker's dozen. Then I ordered the wagyu tenderloin medium rare with a glass of red wine and my husband ordered the wagyu flat iron medium rare and a bottle of sparkling water. I also mentioned to our waiter that I would like to have a glass of regular flat water. The oysters came pretty quickly. But our beverage took forever. Long after we finished the oysters, we still didn't have our wine, sparkling water or regular water. During this time, our waiter filled 4 of our neighboring tables with their water, brought their main courses. We were being neglected. Finally, when he picked up our empty oyster plates, he brought our beverages. Then we waited and waited. By 8:50 pm, I asked him how much longer do we need to wait for our main course to come. That's when he finally went and checked on our orders and brought us the food. What a disappointment on the steak! M6+ should packed with the fat flavor. But what we had was far from this grade. My tenderloin tasted just like a regular tenderloin from the states with nothing special about it supposedly M6+ rating. I ordered a Prime Angus Sirloin steak and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. It came out well done. My boyfriend ordered the Scotch fillet, cooked medium. It tasted OK. Much better than my prime sirloin car tyre. My dad ordered the T-bone steak and said it was excellent. I forgot to try some but I'll take his word for it. My mum had the giant beef ribs and shared them with all of us. They were delicious - saucy, tender and, given their size, definitely the best value out of all the things we ordered. My cousin is not a fan of steak so she ordered the seafood linguine. I didn't try any of it but it looked good and she said it tasted good too. All in all, a mostly pleasant dinner on the tourist-trap strip that is Cockle Bay Wharf. Extremely poor service. Our group of nine was hit with a $50.00 surcharge with no warning. We originally asked for two tables. One of five and one of four. The staff said no problem to combine them and after dinner there was the surcharge. When we asked about it they said that there is nothing that could be done about it. The cashier was smug and when dividing up the bill stated that it was not his job to to be dividing it up. In fairness the food was good, but not worth the rudeness and the up charge. read more

Everything about it was below average, from the fact that visiting on a Sunday for lunch and wanting to enjoy the view yet being shuffled to the inside of the restaurant while empty tables surround us, to having no service because everyone is attending to the people sitting outside. The name should be the clue as to what kind of restaurant this primarily is: a steakhouse. There are other menu options, including some of Sydney's wonderful seafood, but in reality if you're looking for a seafood meal, you're better to go a few doors down to I'm Angus's sister restaurant, Nick's. But, if you really feel like some really wonderfully cooked steak at a great location, I'm Angus is well worth a look. The restaurant itself is along the waterfront promenade of Cockle Bay Wharf, in Darling Harbour. This precinct opened in the late 90s and started off fairly quiet but has now become a buzzing area any night and at any time of year. It is possible at times to walk up to any of these restaurants and get a table, but it is always advisable to book if you want to be sure, and on a weekend, you may need to be flexible with times. Unfortunately, with the increase in patronage has come an increase in prices, and whilst this place used to be a bit of a steal in terms of value for the quality of food, it is now on the higher average end of Sydney restaurant pricing. You're probably looking in the mid-$30 range for a main course so it's not exorbitant but you could get a decent steak nearby for less. That being said, I still believe it is worth the extra few dollars if you really want one of those steaks that makes you pause to taste it while you chew it. They cook the steaks really well and they are really yummy, plus all the sides I've ever tried have been quite tasty as well. The wine list is fairly extensive and the desserts are amazing. My personal menu favourites are the sirloin steak with mushroom sauce, with a side of steamed vegetables. If I have room for dessert, the Baileys crème brulee or stick toffee pudding are both pure heaven for the sweet tooth in the party. The layout of the restaurant is warm and open, with about half of the seating out on a terrace. If the weather does turn bad, they do have awnings and umbrellas to cover most of the seating, so it's not too much of a concern, but this place really comes into its own on a nice clear evening. The lighting is soft and you are sitting on a slightly elevated terrace so your view of the harbour is not hindered by all the people walking on the promenade. Darling Harbour being a bit of an open entertainment hub can also mean you can strike it lucky with some kind of free background entertainment I have been there when they've had a floating stage with a Beatles cover band; another time when the Bacardi Festival was on and there was plenty of Latin music and colourful outfits around; and also a Sydney Festival weekend when, completely unexpectedly for myself and my friends, our dessert was accompanied by fireworks. Sydney loves an excuse to show off how pretty it can be, and the Darling Harbour precinct is no exception. You can check the events calendar for Darling Harbour before you go it might be a good idea to make sure whether or not one of the larger events such as the Boat Show or Motor Show are on, because this could really make a big difference as to how busy the whole area is and how much space and attention you can get anywhere around there. I highly recommend this area for a nice night out by the water, particularly if you are looking for somewhere with parking close-by the Sydney Convention Centre and Entertainment Centre car parks are within 10 minutes walk and you will generally get a space and without quite the price tag of the Circular Quay area, or many other harbourside restaurants. And I definitely recommend I'm Angus for a really good steak. read more
