This by far is my favorite restaurant in the Lansing area. I love the smoked flavor in all of the meats. They have wonderful sides and the cornbread is yummy. Food was very good. Everything was great. One downfall I feel is that it is a Southern style BBQ place and there is no Sweet Tea. I feel that is a staple for this style restaurant. Cool ass place to go. Good atmosphere good food good service not too crowded Saturday for lunch. I had the meat mountain. Mashed potatoes peppered gravy burnt ends bacon cheese and creamy corn. The corn doesn't have sugar in it and the spice rub on the meat is pepper heavy but all in all great meal. I would absolutely get it again. It's like Bbq shepherds pie. When coupled with the black magic sauce calms down the pepper and the coffee hints you get from the black magic sauce really brings out the salty goodness of the pork. All in all good place. Makes a lot of metal references throughout the entire restaurant yet they only play 90s alternative music. Needs more metal. That would move this place onto my list of badass niche restaurants. The cornbread is great. Hint of sweet. Not overpowering. If it was made of chocolate it would be a fudgy brownie. Well done. Update: just talked to the waitress. The music doesn't fit the decor because customers suck (my words not hers). Customers were complaining because they didn't like the music. People were writing on the recipes that they wouldn't come back because of the music. Retail customers please get over yourselves. It's nice to know that there is a place for great Smoked meats and BBQ's that isn't a chain around here! I had the two meat combo and got the Brisket and pulled pork. Both were extremely delicious and even better with the assortment of sauces they gave me! I love the cherry bomb sauce!! I had double Mac n cheese for my sides since they were out of the baked beans. Now I'm not one to put down any sort of cheese and carbs dish but the Mac n cheese was a little bland and a little underwhelming. But I still ate all of it! Haha I have recommended this place to all my friends! Be sure to get there early because they do run out of certain food items ( I'm guessing its cause they are delicious! ) and if you plan on sitting down it is a relatively small joint and quite busy during lunch. It has almost a Golden Harvest vibe to it so just a heads up if you like that kind of place or not....hipster cool vibe. Hands down best bbq in the Lansing area. Sure, does the "south" do it better?--I'm sure they do--you can't compare the two. This is Lansing, MI. The fact there is even a high end bbq in the area is amazing. Myself and the 3 other people I bought lunch for absolutely loved it. My only suggestion would be to add more sauce to the brisket so it is more moist. Loved the fries, brisket, ribs, mac and cheese. Potato salad contains blue cheese-I was told by the others that it was good-spicy/interesting flare. The price was fair--it's bbq so it's bound to be a little more pricey than a burger. Plus you get TWO sides with an entree--very fair. Great portion sizes too. I got take out and was very pleased with the service. I noticed while in the restaurant, the food is served on a stainless steel tray--very cool touch. It's the little things that make a restaurant unique and stand out! Thanks MEAT!! read more

Outstanding food!! Would give it 6 stars if it were possible. I had the pork ribs with sides of cole slaw and the baked beans. 6 different sauces on the table and all were tasty in their own way. Oh my god this restaurant is amazing. We had the most amazing BBQ food you could possibly ask for at this place. It was a very filling lunch. So filling we didn't need to eat anything else for the rest of the day. It's in a great location. The staff are very nice. We walked around the neighborhood afterwards on a nice day. All of the food tastes absolutely amazing. We had the BBQ Pulled Pork Meat Plate and the half rack of ribs. All so good. Will definitely come back here in the future. read more

Great experience....I ordered Meat Frys and 1/2 rack of ribs....I sat at the bar so the service was fantastic...The Meat Frys had 'bacon gravy' Amazing!! Big portion though only ate 1/4 of them....plenty to share...ribs were perfect...for a 1/2 rack you get plenty....the 5 sauces were very good and taste homemade???...can't confirm that but they were very fresh.. I ordered the BBQ beans and blue cheese potato salad....I got the potato salad and Mac and cheese when the meal came out...bartender let me keep the Mac and cheese and they were good but not great. Beans were good but I think I got a really fresh cup....they might of needed to cook for awhile longer to have flavors combine....I didn't like the potato salad ...just nothing special....I will be returning..very good food!! read more

I love this place, but make sure you get there close to when it opens (lunch or dinner) because it gets crowded and they can run out of items. Today I had the chopped brisket sandwich which was terrific and the fries ditto. My spouse had the Reuben sandwich and that was ambrosial. Ok i live in Lansing and have been to almost every restaurant in town, this place is most definitely top 3 if not #1, any review thats less than 4 stars most likely were impatient people that were just hungry and ready to eat, or just simply didnt have a taste for quality home cooked meals and were clearly picky eaters, i for one dont care if this place was on a tv show that means nothing to me, what does matter to me is you pay for what you get and you should never leave a restaurant still hungry, ive been to meats 5x or more and every time have been happy to wait and have always left with a full stomach and sometimes leftovers for home, the quality and quantity is priced right and the inside of the place is unique compared to anywhere else ive been, my only wish is if the place were twice its size which im sure the owner has been working on, 99% of people reccomend this place and so do i, it is worth every penny to me and i will continue to go and one day i will destroy that boss log challenge in 30 minutes or less and become a hometown hero...PEACE read more

Best BBQ I've had in Michigan, and I can't think of a better overall meal I've had from a BBQ joint anywhere. I got take out and it held up really well to a 45 minute drive home and the portions were huge-we had enough for meals the day after as well. First, come with a bit of patience because it is small and you will most likely have to wait for a table. I've had BBQ in Lockhart, TX and this BBQ isn't too far off. The fatty brisket is quite amazing. The fat just melts in your mouth. The bark is crusty and flavorful. I was expecting more from the pulled pork. I like my pork fatty and stringy and this was more chopped and dry, but still tasty. The beans were a bit much for me. I enjoy just beans, not the added brisket to the beans. The creamed corn is spicy and delicious. We will be going back! read more
