This restaurant is quintessentially small town. It opens for lunch and gets the local traffic throughout the day. It's not fancy but it is a good watering hole and offers a pretty broad menu. The staff does a great job on social media; so you always know what is on special. The last time I was in, I went with a standard burger and tots. Everything was right on the money; tasty and hot. You'll never leave this place complaining about skimpy portions. While I'd like the staff to be a bit friendlier, they always seem to be busy and I'm not a local. I definitely won't let that keep me away from good made-as-you-wait food at reasonable prices.

Seemed to be a bit of a hassle for the hostess and owner but we got seated and ordered a drink. At 6pm on a Sat night one would think a place like this would be packed but only a few groups were seated and maybe about 12 people in the bar. When we left around 8pm Mathew was the only one left and enjoying a drink behind the bar. The food was excellent...our group had a range from prime rib to scallops to walleye. Some dishes could have been hotter/some of potato's were cold, but overall the food was spectacular. Salads very good as the beef soup. As we finished our meal, Mathew visited with one table of fellow old timer friends and asked for a fatty piece of meat off his plate, ate it, patted the guy on the back and walked off. The waitresses, particularly ours, Sam, were amazing. She was attentive and very sweet. The hostess didn't seem particularly interested, or pleasant, and seemed annoyed that we got there 15 minutes early when the place was about 20% full. She didn't seem particularly pleased when the 25% tip was added to the credit card instead of cash. It's a shame Sam probably has to split it with staff who don't deserve it. It's a shame that Matthew and his hostess are not more pleasant people because this place should be absolutely packed for the great food and stiff drinks as it well exceeds Wisconsin supper club standards by far in that area. 4.5 stars on the food. 5 stars for Sam. 0 stars for Mathew and his hostess.

I requested the tartar sauce be substituted with cocktail sauce and my wife requested mayo on her burger. The burger and fish were good as was the service. However we were surprised to see a charge of $2.00 for the cocktail sauce and $1.00 for the mayo for the burger. We went on line and found other people sharing there experiences with up charges they too found on their bill. Some shared surprise at being up charges for butter for baked fish, sour cream for a baked potato, cocktail sauce and tartar sauce too. I found it both sad and humorous that the charge for cocktail sauce and tartar sauce both were $2.00. So, doing the math my request for the substitute should have come out even. While I do understand there can be additional charges, not letting the customer know ahead of time seems to be deceptive. So while the food at Club Forest was still good, the undisclosed additional charges left a bad taste in our mouths.

All the ingredients were fresh and presented well too. Be prepared for picnic style paper plates...definitely unique but certainly didn't take away from how good the food is or quantities of food. We think it was the owner who seated us, took our orders, and helped me navigate my gluten free needs. He checked on us a few times and seemed genuinely thankful to have us as customers. The steak was cooked medium rare and was really tasty. They have unique fries that you must try. It's like if a chip married a french fry so get them. It's first come first serve for outside tables. Part of the restaurant closes during winter. Definitely worth a stop. Also try the salmon appetizer with the homemade crackers. You will thank me.

I honestly most likely would not have noticed if it weren't for the brand new waiter giving our bill to the wrong table (who actually paid for it... what a mess!) By the time we got our bill we noticed that it seemed to be much higher than we expected. Waiter wasn't much help, so my wife asked for the menu. Sure enough! Prices were different! Manager explained that it says that prices may change right in the menu. Never heard that one before!! Plus no refills on tea or soda. (Not shared by waiter) I've driven past this place a number of times and thought that a "train car" restaurant was pretty cool. Made a note to try it out. In this evening there was a packer game starting at 7:20 so I thought it would be reasonable to think that we if we were seated by 6:15 I wouldn't miss much of the game. By the time we got our bill settled it was 8:15. And there were only 3 tables with customers! Crazy slow service and our food took forever. I also couldn't understand how the 2 tables seated well after us were done and long gone well before we were. Must have known I wanted to get out to watch the game! Food was on the low end of average. Service was weak, but it was his first week. Actually felt a little sorry for him. He got flustered when the bills got screwed up. Caught hell from those customers too. Made for a tough night for him. Thursday Night at prime eating time and there was one other couple in the whole restaurant when we walked in. 2 more couples came in later. The restaurant up the road was packed. Obviously a reason. Love to help small businesses, but this was just too bad of an experience to want to go back.

The prices are not for the faint of heart. Steaks hover around $50. While the plate itself was delicious, for this price I expect a much more special experience.
