We were visiting Green Lake, WI from the Chicago burbs over Memorial Day weekend, and needed a quick lunch spot that was within walking distance of the flea market that had both vegetarian options, and kid friendly options. Horseradish was bustling at 12:30pm on a Saturday, but wasn't too overly packed when we came in. We were able to find a table for 4 and get our orders in quickly. That being said, it took over an hour of listening to terribly overstimulating music with bad vibes to actually get our food. Our kids were hangry, as were the children at a few other tables as well. I ordered the Vegan Witch (I LOVE kimchi) and my daughter ordered the Gus Special No. 1. We also all ordered various sodas/Olipops. The prices for the sodas were absurd, and the side salad that I ordered with my vegan witch was flavorless. I was kind of shocked at the kids' menu options and expected better ... my daughter of course ate it, as she's 4, and who doesn't love cheese on tortilla chips, but what an odd lunch option. I would have preferred more kid friendly veggie options for the side veggies, as radishes are a bit strange to plate for a child ... my sandwich was good, but just seemed to be lacking something. Staff were incredibly nice, but with how slow service was, I would not recommend going when you're actually hungry. I also don't recommend for kids. It was a fun experience and a nice find for in the middle of nowhere, but I guess I was just hoping for a bit more ... The bathrooms are nice, and my daughter and I loved the banana and lipstick lights on the bathroom walls that were also for sale. Cute place, slow service. I'll probably never be in Green Lake, Wisconsin again, so I can't say whether I'd return or not. read more

What a gem of a place to find in Princeton, WI. I was totally blown away by this place. Incredible food, amazing drinks (highly recommend the miso salted caramel latte) and a fun/friendly atmosphere. Service was excellent and quick even when they had a packed house. They had tons of gluten free and vegetarian options and had a really nice patio and storefront. This is a must visit before you hit all the amazing thrift shops in town and I'll be dreaming of this place until I return again! read more

A very cool eclectic restaurant. We really liked the vibe. We were met at the door by the sweet pooch welcoming committee. We chose a high table towards the back and were pleasantly surprised by the wood burning stove that added some great ambiance and warmth on a cold winter day. You order your food from the counter and then they bring it to your table. The menu had some really yummy looking lunch options. We chose the Korean nachos which were amazing and I will be returning soon to have them again. I also had the pistachio latte. Again, I think the best I have ever had and wish I lived closer. But probably a good thing I don't as I would be a daily visitor for sure. Service was great and can't wait to return again soon. read more

Let's face it, if it doesn't look good, you've already told yourself it's not going to taste good. With Horseradish, the first bite you take is with your eyes and what you see are dishes with major detail in their presentation and flavors. They're using local farms and suppliers, a local bakery and it's a compact menu but pretty wide scaled in the dish offerings and coffee. They have a great sitting area out back on the river and it's a very welcoming place. They even have a small food truck/bus! The owners and staff are very friendly and it's very easy to stop in for a quick bite and find yourself staying there for a couple of hours. It's a very casual place with a great ambiance, like going to an art gallery to see and partake of someone's pieces, without all the attitude or "stuffy" atmosphere. If you're close to Princeton take advantage of this place. And if you're not from the area...do make the trip and take the drive to see and eat at this place. read more

Spent a weekend in Princeton for a yoga retreat, and we had all of our meals at Horseradish. There were vegans, vegetarians, meat eaters and gluten free people and everyone was happy and full after each meal. Staff and owners are so sweet and helpful, perfect hosts! Oh yeah, the cocktails are fantastic. I had a really good negroni, which is hard to find! Benny, the black lab, kept everyone happy and engaged. I can't wait to go back to Princeton. Such a great little town and I can't wait to eat again at Horseradish. read more

I only had a cup of coffee in the restaurant but stayed in the Air BnB above the restaurant. The restaurant is so cute and cozy. The eclectic decor makes you feel at home whether it's sitting in the picture window looking out to the street or getting comfy on the screened in porch overlooking the river. The coffee was hot and expertly poured. They are closed on Tue which is was the only day we were free. I wish they opened early so I could have a latte at 7am. There was live music on Sunday night until 9pm-ish. The band was a local family group and drew a great local crowd. The place was so cute and so inviting. read more

Meandered around Princeton today hoping there was a cafe or coffee shop to get a sandwich. Horseradish was the answer! Incredible setting and very cute restaurant, with views of the Fox River and a light and airy feel. I got the Capri sandwich with chips and a bottled lemonade. Everything tasted super fresh and was a perfect lunch portion. Especially good fresh mozzarella and plentiful tomatoes. Only giving four stars as it was a little pricey (likely given the fresh ingredients). I am glad Princeton has a place like this but at about $17 for lunch (including tip), you at least have to know what to expect. read more

Stopped on our way through to Viroqua. Used Yelp and searched for 'foodie' place. This place is great. Atmosphere was cool-eclectic, with a really good vibe. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. My wife had the Korean nachos and I had the Capri sandwich - both were tremendous! The bartender even gave us a bit of a show on some techniques he's been practicing behind the bar . 100% recommend if you find yourself in Princeton. I'm gluten free and their homemade GFree chocolate chip and I think the other cookie is a peanut butter monster cookie they are so good! I stop in sometimes just for a latte and one of those delicious cookies. I personally Love the Cuban sandwich it's my all-time favorite. The ambience in this place is so cozy and warm! Wonderful little cafe and market offering healthy eats with vegetarian and vegan options! I stopped in for the first time with family and we were all very impressed! The food and service was amazing, and the environment was warm and very inviting! The place has a country cottage feel mixed with modern flare. They also have a beautiful covered open air patio off the back of the cafe where you can enjoy your meal in the sun! I had the Cuban sandwich, and it was incredible! I enjoyed every single bite of my meal! The food was fresh and delicious! We had the chance to meet the owner, and he was a very nice person. His pride and love for his business we're very evident. He prepared our meals personally and still took the time to greet us and all the other patrons in the cafe! I love supporting the smaller local business, so I'm happy that we stumbled upon this gem. We will definitely come back here when in the area again, and I'll be talking this place up to all my foodie freinds! If your in the area or just passing through, this cafe is a must stop. Great little place. Limited menu but great food. Im a Cuban Sandwich junkie. The Almost Cuban was a nice riff on a traditional one (coleslaw instead of pickle).The ciabatta from a local bakery was fabulous. (The foundation of any great sandwich. ). The Vegan Lentil soup had great flavor with just a hint of curry. If i didn't live 3 hours away would definitely be a go to option. Kudos. read more

This place is fantastic and we always look forward to coming and grabbing something to eat. Everything from the service, to the food, to the decor is very thoughtfully planned and executed! Love this place and the staff who are always so nice and super helpful. This time I ordered their special which was a Baun- mi on ciabatta bread.... excellent! I hope they put it in their regular rotation! Also, my dining partner got the curry chicken salad which she loved! Can't recommend this place enough. Not a busy day when I went in. Courteous and friendly greeting as walked in. The place is beautiful with an amazing outdoor seating area looking over the fox river. I ordered the tacos,which took approximately 4 minutes to make. Serve yourself a beer, 2 tacos, 21 bucks. Tacos had great flavor, half a cherry tomato each, avacado and pork, but overall meal wasn't worth half that. Won't see average Joe's in there,that's for sure. Will not be going back. read more

We had a work dinner here. We started with curry artichoke dip and bacon water chestnuts that were to die for. Next we enjoyed a carrot ginger soup that was amazing along with beautiful presentation. We had to protein options to choose from chicken or salmon. I chose salmon. The salmon was very moist and full of flavor. We finished with a chai dessert that was heaven in your mouth. If you're going to go to any restaurant in Green Lake County, make it HORSERADISH. The thing I love most about this beautiful setting is that they have something for everyone. For people like me and my husband, a big juicy steak and fries is just the thing, but my daughter loves that they have vegetarian choices. Also, my son is gluten-free and it was wonderful to hear that they offer gluten-free. It's so nice to have a restaurant that the whole family can agree on! This place is not a chain and it never feels like it. The art on the wall is frankly bizarre and the chef likes to meet people and learn their names. They utilize Local resources with is VERY important to us. I've seen college kids, families and couples all come to this fun and friendly beautiful place and the patio overlooking the river is to die for. Basically, the food is great, the servers are friendly and you won't have to sell your kids into slavery to get a delicious meal with generous proportions. 5 stars! read more

I can't tell you how much we enjoy Horseradish Kitchen and Market. You know as you walk in the door you have arrived somewhere special. The atmosphere is fun with a touch of funky. Plenty of seating indoors and on the screeched porch out back. The menu has a number of mainstays that are truly exceptional. There are even several items for a Kids' Menu, as well. We love bringing guests here for an unexpected and delicious meal. Did I mention the cocktails? They can certainly whip you up a standard or an amazing creation of their own. Matt and Scotty always make us feel welcome and keep us coming back for more. Do yourself a favor and stop by...just be sure to check their hours first, so you don't wind up disappointed. read more

Nestled among the small quaint shops of Princeton Wisconsin you will discover a fantastic culinary gem called Horseradish. Chef Matt Trotter parked his well known food truck for a cute cozy eatery along the Fox River. The lunchtime sandwich selections are excellent utilizing the freshest ingredients and most delicious breads. The view of the river from the porch is nothing short of spectacular. They also offer fresh made cocktails and ice cold wines in a can to get your booze on!! Looking forward to an evening meal experience real soon. My husband and I have enjoyed the delicious food and great atmosphere at the Horseradish many times during the summer of 2019. It never disappoints! Today we stopped in on a cool October Saturday afternoon for a warm cup of mocha while we played cribbage at one of the hightop tables. The servers were welcoming and friendly. We stayed right up to the new off-season closing time of 4:00. We will continue to support this great addition to the area! read more

Surprisingly good food for downtown Princeton! Well worth a visit from out of town. Had the carnitas tacos (daily special) and the Kinda Cuban. Ordered at the front register and food arrived in about 15 minutes. Pretty busy Friday afternoon, but the inside seating was pretty empty as everyone wanted to enjoy the river view on the patio. Excellent service and food was remarkable! Will be going back for sure! read more

Started as a small food truck I hear, Amazon good, nice people, fair prices and nice atmosphere to hang out in without feeling pressure with a semi self serve format. At 7, we finally (had to ask) for a snack - and all she could offer was some dry rye bread. At 7:15 she (finally, did offer another round of drinks. Which, the sodas already came with free refills). Just what our pregnant guest needed. We finally got our food at 7:20. We won't go back. (Oh, in addition to the unacceptable service) - those who ordered potato salad were disappointed - while the quality was good, the portion was so tiny, we remarked, oh, this must be a sample of what their potato salad would be if they gave you a regular portion.

Let me begin by saying that $16.99 for prime rib is not terrible, but sometimes a $16.99 prime rib…read moredisappoints. As I continue to learn more about butchery and cooking, I more often than not find myself disappointed with restaurant fare - especially at a value price point. Prime rib starts with an excellent rib roast. That rib roast should have four distinct muscles. In inferior cuts of meat, these muscles get separated by sinewy, hard fat rather than thin fat that renders during the cooking process. This is super-important in prime rib because each of those muscles can sit at a different angle, changing the chew mid-steak. Also in inferior cuts, the ribeye cap - or spinalis dorsi - consists mostly of fat. In good cuts that cap if the best part of the prime rib. That did not happen here. The steak was OK as far as tenderness, but not great. It's actually such a small piece of meat that it really needs the bread and salad they do not serve just in order to leave feeling full. The fat and sinew between the individual muscles did not render well, and even the soft fat was inedible. I have eaten prime rib where I ate every single piece of that steak put on my plate. Here, I had to essentially cut out the heart of the ribeye (longissimus dorsi) and eat that alone. My wife reminded me that it was affordable. In the future, if the goal is affordable I'll just have drinks.

We have never dined in here before. Do we seat ourselves? There's no sign or anything, and why is this counter so dirty? And the table was also dirty from the last people... Eventually we flagged down an employee and asked if she could clean the table for us. She gladly did. But why is this all taking so long? And the bar countertop is also still dirty, we have been there for 15 minutes so far. We sat and eventually realized we needed to order our food at the cash register and tell them what table we were sitting at. All the employees were lovely but not Observant at all. That we have been staring at them and standing around... When we ordered and eventually given our food, There were a couple mishaps with our food, but that's okay because mistakes happen and we're not the type of people who get upset over every little thing. The employees fixed everything. The reason for only 4 stars is because we were there for 1 hour from start to finish, and ONLY right before we left, did they start cleaning any of the tables or counter. They only cleaned our table because we asked. There was a massive pile of dirty dishes on the back counter, and only then did they start cleaning them up. I neglected to take pics of the pile of dirty dishes. To be fair, all the employees were busy the entire time, they weren't being lazy, they always had something to do. BUT cleaning tables and dishes need to be a priority especially during the busy hours. I urge and hope the owner please get a designated dishwasher and table cleaner especially during the busy hours. No one wants to sit at a dirty table with food scraps and sauce smears after someone has left. And also, please be more observant to confused customers who are standing around not sure what to do. A simple, "can I help you" would have really helped, and not made us feel ignored when we were confused. Also, a sign would help, like, "seat yourselves and order at the counter". Because the employees are also wait staff, and deliver food to the tables. It was just so confusing. Hope this helps. But otherwise, the employees were quite lovely when they did pay attention to you, and food is always good. Just be prepared to wait awhile for food.
