Overall: expensive relative to nearby cleaners, negligent with your clothes, poor customer service, lacks business integrity, outsources cleaning, no same-day or 24 hour turnaround I've used this cleaner for both dry cleaning and laundering on two different occasions. They launder a french cuff shirt just fine by reinforcing the collar and buttoning up the cuff so it keeps good shape. Unfortunately, dry-cleaning does not go so well. I dropped off three suits of equal age for dry-cleaning and one came back with a quarter sized hole on the back of each sleeve (pictures posted complete with cleaning tags still attached). The owner wasn't present when I pointed out the damage so he called me later to discuss the issue. As a traveling business consultant, I would never wear a suit with holes in the sleeves at the client site and wouldn't make it 15 minutes without being sent home to change should I not notice when dressing myself in the morning. This is why I am 100% confident there were no holes in the jacket when I dropped it off for cleaning. Sadly, my jacket was irreparably damaged and the suit made unwearable while in the possession of Mr. McPherson and Plaza Dry Cleaners. To make matters worse, Mr. McPherson did not take responsibility for the damage to the jacket, offered neither compensation for the cost of the jacket nor cleaning services, and was shockingly unreasonable and truly insulting to me over the phone. In summary, Mr. McPherson ruined an excellent 100% wool suit, made a profit off me, insulted me, and didn't lose a wink of sleep over it -- not someone I recommend doing business with. Fortunately, there are no less than four alternate cleaners (three in the same shopping center!) within a minute's drive if you're looking for a trustworthy, quality cleaner. read more

I have to say that the store was extremely disorganized. The first time I was there they could not find my order and when they did the interaction was very robotic. On my second visit the woman at the cash register was helpful and kind. However, it is extremely pricey! read more

NOT cheap BUT The BEST in Chapel Hill NC It's EXPENSIVE to lease space for a small business, especially near Whole Foods, those costs get passed on to us as customers, obviously. 1. Consistently good dry cleaning for us 15+ yrs 2. Personal service with a smile, they don't even give you a number, they just use your name and after a while, call you by name. 3. We take ALL our fine garments, down comforters, even badly stained items come out much better. If you tell them EXACTLY what the stain is they know specific ANTIDOTES to remove difficult stains on your expensive garments. Our highest recommendation, friendly hometown service, quality work, great location, easy in, easy out. read more

If you like the buttons on your shirt, i don't recommend coming here. I dropped a set of clothes here to be laundered, shirts and pants with extra buttons sewn inside, and out of 4 shirts, 3 of them had buttons missing and replaced with non-original buttons. Now granted it's good of them to replace buttons that fell off. but why are they being treated that roughly in the first place? and why did they randomly pick buttons to sew back on, when there are extra original ones already attached to the garment? definitely not going back. read more

I'm so sad to see the negative reviews about Plaza Dry Cleaners! I've been going here for the past 3 years and I have never had a problem. The people who work there are always so nice and even with a long line, things typically move quickly. I love that PDC is family owned and that they do all of their work on premises. They check every label of every item you bring in to be sure that it is dry cleanable. One time I tried dropping off a dress with lace and a few leather accents, but the ladies behind the counter told me I'd be better off gently hand-washing it myself for fear that the leather would peel after going through their process. I was pleasantly surprised that instead of charging me extra, they simply turned my dress away! Also, if you bring in an item with a stain, they'll mark it and give it their all. If they can't get the stain out, they'll leave a note saying they didn't want to try any harder for fear of damaging the garment. Any item that the stain didn't come out 100% is BARELY noticeable- and I am a perfectionist so my standards are very high. Parking can be challenging and they are a little pricey, which is why I only gave 4 out of 5 stars. But I recently discovered the parking spaces on the side of the building and honestly, I'm happy to pay the extra money for the peace of mind. read more

Very pleasant workers and friendly. Quick dry cleaning and a normal amount for suit dry cleaning and shirts Update. Unfortunately before their company change some of the products we had brought there for cleaning got spots and stains on them. Not sure if we will be able to get them out at this point. read more

This is a bit out of the way for me but I do find myself out that way enough that I would go back. I found the people working there were very friendly and welcoming even though I had just one piece to be cleaned. Turn around was quick and I was able to get a vintage Gunne Sax dress cleaned for $14 which I was very pleased with since it is about 30 years old. It does a brisk business but plenty of parking and easy in and out. Would recommend! read more

My family was visiting Chapel Hill this week and we stopped at the bakery next door. My husband stopped in and asked if there was a laundry mat nearby because my 2 year old son had gotten sick in the car and we wanted to wash his clothes. The elderly woman at the counter stated that they could wash the clothes and we could pick them up the next day. We stopped by the store yesterday and the clothes were still not clean and we needed to stop back by before we left town this morning. To my utter surprise they charged us $98 to wash a load of clothes. We now know where NOT to go next time we are in town. read more

I go to the cleaners infrequently. I'm talking like twice a season. But these guys are close to my gym and my tailor, so it's good for one-stop errands. Prices are reasonable and I've never had anything come back damaged or not ready in time. I don't believe they are -- or have plans to become -- a green cleaner, though, so they've got that working against them. read more

Mcpherson Cleaners - Laundry Services Near Me - Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Best dry cleaners in the area hands down! Not only are they always friendly, but my clothes always come back looking great. They have a great attention to detail, and they will always have my business. Just the other day I misplaced a $500 watch only to find that when I picked up my dry cleaning it was attached to my clothes in a separate bag! That doesn't just happen anywhere. read more

The absolute best dry cleaners in the triangle. I've been going to them for years, though trying out various other dry cleaners in between and none other could compare. Plaza has the best customer service I've ever encountered, and do something for no charge that other dry cleaners don't - replace buttons. See, here's the dirty little secret of dry cleaners - every single one of them loses your buttons, at one time or another. It's just a part of the process of being cleaned and going through the machines that buttons get lost all the time. Now, as opposed to other cleaners in the triangle, Plaza replaces them for free as they have a full time seamstress on staff to handle just this problem. No other cleaner does that, as they either A: charge you for it, or B: dont mention it and you find out later that you're missing buttons (both scenarios having happened to me at other Cleaners). The great thing is that they do this without mentioning a word about it to anyone - they dont take credit for the good work they do, because it's just the way Plaza is. Quietly and kindly doing great work, every day. read more

I was frustrated with my experience here. They told me that they couldn't clean my "dry clean only" dining room chair cushions. And then they told me they couldn't tell me the names of any other dry cleaners who might be able to help me because they couldn't support the competition. If they want to compete effectively, maybe they should help customers! read more

Expensive! Very friendly service, but no standard prices listed anywhere. When I asked they told me about upservices, after the fact. Seems ridiculous and opportunistic not to have transparency in pricing. Business will be in trouble if they don't join 21st century... read more

These folks did a beautiful job dry-cleaning my oh so very very soft and fragile baby Alpacca wool winter sweater. I was so worried that it would be ruined but it came back just looking splendidly! Can't wait for next winter to come so I can wear it and take it to McPherson dry cleaners again! I highly recommend them. read more

HORRIBLE!!! These JERKS decided to close early on Friday WITH NO WARNING. They are supposed to close at 6pm yet when I arrived at 5:30pm yesterday there was not a single employee in sight. They are closed again today even though they are supposed to be open from 9am to 2pm. They have ALL of my professional clothes and I fly out tomorrow for a crucial 2-day job interview. I have called all three of their locations and there is no answer, no voice mail, NOTHING. I went to considerable time and expense on a tight budget to obtain suitable professional clothes and they are being HELD HOSTAGE in this horrible business. I can't even describe the degree to which this sucks... hundreds of dollars wasted, professional career jeopardized. Distraught. Assuming this business ever decides to open their doors again... PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THESE HORRIBLE PEOPLE YOUR BUSINESS. read more

I came here because of the reviews, but was sorely disappointed. I paid $30 to dry clean one dress and press two blouses. The dress came back to me with the same stain I brought it in for, and both blouses still had some deep wrinkles in them. The staff was very prompt and friendly though. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. The shades were pulled down as I was clearly walking up to the door just before closing time. I knocked multiple times and was completely ignored despite an entire group of staff visible. I will NOT be returning to this shop and will discourage others from using this cleaners. read more

Great experience! I was looking for a new cleaners after mine closed and having had one particularly bitter experience before finding Plaza. I wish I'd found them ages ago! Cleaning is always professional and well done. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Items are returned when promised. I now use them all the time! read more

I have been patronizing this store for years. I've always received good service, and it is a joy to deal with friendly staff and a local business. The cleaning process is an environmentally friendly one and approved by the EPA. You won't be breathing in dangerous fumes as you sniff your clothes. Many do not know that the new owners of this shopping area have raised the rents radically which will cause the mom and pop stores to leave. This is the kind of business residents in our area need, not some some trendy boutique. Bigger is not better. read more

I dropped off a cheap rayon blend shirt to be cleaned at Plaza a few months ago. I had somehow gotten motor oil stains on it and was hoping they could be removed. I picked it up about 2 days later and the stains had faded quite a bit, but they weren't gone. I know motor oil is kind of a tough thing to remove, so I'll give them credit for at least fading it. My total was about $7, which is reasonable I suppose. The staff was fine, but not particularly friendly or accommodating. read more

The services here were standard and the prices slightly reasonable.. But the quality was not up to par. It seems as though they treated my laundered shirts equally as they did my nice suits. read more

Great location - very convenient. It would've been great if the sales clerk hadn't been standing outside smoking while we waited inside for service. Also, SUPER PRICEY for dry cleaning. I did one pair of linen pants for $8.15 - they told me it was an additional $1 because my pants were linen - WHAT?!?! It's worth driving a little out of my way to save $5. read more

Nice desk service, but my bright white jacket came out yellowed. Not just not bright white anymore, but visibly yellowed. I didn't notice till I left and didn't bother complaining as I did not trust them to fix it. Too bad, since the location is great, but I won't return since I don't want to risk my other clothes. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. I came here because of the convenient location, and highly regret it. I dropped off a pair of work pants and asked that they not be pressed because the fabric would get ruined with a hot iron (the tag clearly noted that only a cool iron should be used). I asked if they could use a cool iron or some other manual method to put creases in the front/back. The lady literally laughed at me for inquiring about this! I found this to be quite rude, and just asked that they don't press or iron them at all in that case, simply dry clean. When I returned for the pants, they had been pressed and the fabric was ruined! They clearly paid no attention to my request or to the tag in the pants that specified to only use a cool iron. I pointed this out, and at first they denied remembering my request until one of the staff members remembered me and pointed out that I indeed asked them to not press the pants. Apparently they didn't bother to note this anywhere. They offered nothing to remedy this mistake - not compensation, not even to remove the charge for the pants (about $8). I'm guessing they just expected me to pay and be ok with this? I asked that at the very least they not charge me for the pants they had ruined - they gave me a very hard time about this, saying they needed a manager's approval and no manager was available. Finally they called the manager and removed the charge for the pants, but I was still left with a ruined pair of pants, no way to repair them, and no compensation. In sum: - they were rude - they did not respect the customer request - they did not read the tag instructions on clothing I would not trust them to touch my clothing again. They are utterly unprofessional. read more

They don't know how to clean neckties. I now have four ties that are flat as boards, not rolled as they should be. Clearly, they have been pressed, which is never done on ties by a knowledgeable dry cleaner. Won't be back. read more

I brought 3 items to Plaza Dry Cleaners and 2 of the 3 were damaged when I got them back. One hem was ripped out of a dress that I brought in and there were stains on another dress that had not previously been there. They did an acceptable job cleaning my blazer. All of that and the price I paid was more than I have paid previously for the same amount of work. DON'T use them-why would you pay for your clothes to get ruined? read more

This cleaners was recently bought by McPherson Cleaners and re-named. I cant speak for previous owners but I can sing the praises of the McPherson Cleaners brand. I have been going to their Burlington store for years. They consistently offer great service and quality cleaning. The staff are helpful and quick. DO NOT RECOMMEND PLAZA DRY CLEANER... This is a cleaner which is at a good location and therefore generates good business. But it has become jaded. Staffs certainly acted that way. I had cushions and covers dry cleaned. It came back almost as soiled as when they were handed to them. If they do not want to spot clean household items, they should refuse to take the job! I took the same item down to the next cleaner. They told me that they would take the stain out by dry cleaning. This next cleaner charged me less than half the price that Plaza Cleaner charged me. Plaza Dry Cleaner charged me a total of $70, a job I had to take to another cleaner to be completely redone! Hope that other customers will check with other cleaners before taking jobs to Plaza. There is another cleaner, H2O ONLY CLEANER, in the same shopping center, but in a less prominent location, and eco-friendly also. I went to Plaza because of the excellent reviews. NO MORE! read more

Affordable washing and ironing for men's shirts; very nice, professional staff.

I brought two white silk shirts here and picked them up today. One was clean and one was dirty. The one that was dirty was definitely no more clean than when I dropped it off and may have actually gotten dirtier, as I really do not remember the yellow stain on the back being there when I dropped it off. But, I understand things happen and that it's not always possible to get everything out, especially out of white silk. The person working at the front desk offered to send it to be redone. I said I appreciated that and that I'd take her up on it. But then it came to light that I'd have to still pay for both items up front. I said I'd be happy to pay for the item they cleaned but that I wasn't going to pay for the item that they definitely didn't clean and might have actually made dirtier. She said she was unable to split the ticket (which of course is not true, since they just enter an amount into the credit card machine). After going back and forth, I just paid for both items and took my things and left. So, I effectively paid them $15 to ruin one item, clean another one, and waste my time in the process! read more

Dropped off clothes for 2 months or so and encountered my first problem today. Dropped off slacks on Friday and returned from being out of town today, the following Thursday. When I was out of town I noticed two pairs of slacks that I had picked up on Friday we ripped and had puncture holes. Flight got in today and stopped by on the way back to the office and showed the pants. The owner came out of the back extremely defensive and didn't want to hear anything. When asked if she was willing to give up 3-4 thousand dollars a year in dry cleaning services for $175 worth of slacks (my weekly bill will vouch for that) she simply yelled and said it wasn't her fault. She was extremely rude and defensive with no compromising what-so-ever. She claimed I have insects in my house eating my clothes...it took all I could do not to laugh at her! Honestly I would have stayed with them if she showed the slightest bit of compassion or was willing to work with me at all. I hear Carolina Cleaners is okay....checking them out next read more
