The texture of the mochi muffin is not like others I've had from other bakeries. It is light, yet chewy and super satisfying. It is filled with cream and the milk jam is so good as well! Unfortunately I am going to update my rating to 2 stars. Even though their cakes are good, it is a PAIN to order from them! This is almost the third time that they totally missed my email or just stopped responding. There is no standard way to place an order with them. If you try to order on the basis of their online form, they miss the email. You can try emailing them, then they randomly stop responding. I had to ping them on their Instagram to get them to notice my email. At this point for me it is just TOO MUCH EFFORT trying to place an order with them. It is luck if you can just place an order with one email. If you ask ANY QUESTION about their cakes, it will take an average of 24 hours or more for each exchange or they end up ghosting you. I love M course! I've ordered cupcakes from here three times now. Once, I just ordered their guava strawberry cupcakes to just try and my daughter devoured them. She wanted them for her bday but they weren't available. I did order their cupcakes for my son and daughter's bday and received lots of compliments and requests for m courses information. The only downfall for me is that I do have to drive to Santa Clara to pickup, which is a 30min drive for me. It's worth it for me since I can run errands in the area but may not be worth it for others just to pick up cupcakes. They do make gluten free options! I've just been fortunate enough to have helped pick up and eat two of their amazing birthday cakes in the last month. First off their buttercream thai tea cake. Beautiful layering, definitely could get a really nice tea flavor out of the cake. What really impressed me though was that even though it was buttercream, the cake itself was incredibly light tasting and very moist. It was dangerously good to eat. Second cake I tried this past weekend was their regular cream earl gray cake with lemon. It was also delicious, though personally speaking I do wish the earl gray flavor came out a bit stronger. The lemon comes across very well and again I am very impressed with how moist and light their cakes are. So I got the valentine package as a gift and from the four cupcakes my absolute favorite was the strawberry shortcake which I would give a four star. Wish I had more of this flavor. It had the perfect amount of sweetness. The other 3 were cookies and cream and it just had to much cream for me; the triple chocolate cake and this one had too much chocolate that didn't go well together and just felt like something was lacking and last but not least is the raspberry white chocolate and this lacked the white chocolate flavor. What initially enticed me were the mochi muffins and matcha cream puffs, and then I found myself going down a rabbit hole of looking into their cakes. I also thought it was really cool that MCourse was a local business owned and ran by twin sisters, Megan and Mindy. Finding MCourse's profile couldn't have been any more perfect timing, because my best friend's birthday was coming up. Rather than settling for a cake from Milk Bar or SusieCakes, which are my basic go-tos, I wanted to go all out and make her quarantine birthday as extra as possible. I contacted MCourse on the same day, which was about a month out from my friend's birthday. Since I wanted to personalize a cake, I wanted to give the ladies enough time to bring my ideas into fruition. I worked directly with Megan via email on the customization for the cake. I had an overall positive and collaborative experience corresponding with her. She was very communicative and responsive, and I really appreciated her honest feedback regarding aesthetics and what they would/wouldn't be able to do for the decorations. After of a week of back and forth brainstorming, I was quite pleased with the end result. Arranging for the pickup time and place was super easy since Megan provided detailed instructions. Mia was the one whom I ended up texting with on the day of the pickup. I think she was also the one who handed off the cake. Since the cake was delicate, she carefully placed the cake in my car and advised that I drive slowly. First impressions of the cake were that 1.) it was way taller than I anticipated and 2.) It was absolutely stunning! The detailing on the cake not only reflected my vision but also exceeded my expectations. I had the pleasure of trying the cake. I ordered an earl grey cake with lemon, which was one of their signature flavors. It consisted of earl grey cake, white chocolate ganache buttercream filling and lemon buttercream. The cake was truly fantastic! The cake part was super moist, and I could really taste the infusion of the earl grey flavor. Allowing the buttercream to melt to room temp is essential for bringing out the flavors, otherwise it would straight up taste like butter if cold. MCourse highly advises to leave the cake out for 2.5 hrs before tasting. Not going to lie, I was in a rush and zapped it for 15 seconds to get the buttercream to room temp. I know, I know... that's sacrilegious especially for such a glorious cake. But hey, it didn't take away from the quality and actually came out to the perfect temperature by which the flavors melded together nicely. The butter cream was excellent, and I liked that the white chocolate flavor stood out. The most important thing was that my best friend loved her cake. She could not stop raving about it. The lemon lavender blueberry cake wasn't good. We had so much excitement built up. There was a distinct lack of flavor. While the icing is lavender there is no flavor of lavender. The icing also had a strange texture. And the blueberry jam in the middle had less flavor than the fresh blueberries on the outside. I ordered a 6" passionfruit guava strawberry fresh cream cake to be delivered for my husband's birthday. The cake was delivered on time and as ordered, with a little happy birthday sign. We all loved the cake and thought it was really delicious! The guava and passionfruit flavor really came through and it was such a great combination that I wish more bakeries had it as an option. I was really excited to finally try MCourse's creampuffs because of their 5-star overall reviews and many promising individual reviews.. however, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I ordered a dozen via email and the transaction went smoothly. Do note that you need to order at least 2-3 days in advance. I'd say even more days than that if you really want to secure an order for an exact date because they typically take a while to respond to your initial email. But once you do get through to them, they are pretty responsive to your email thread. Also keep in mind that their pickup times are pretty limited because they go out and do deliveries so it's not flexible. I got to try all 4 flavors (vanilla, ube, pandan, & matcha). I would say pandan was the best out of all of them. I like that there was a generous amount of filling and it was not too sweet or heavy. What really disappointed me was the shell. It tasted stale/hard. It wasn't crunchy at all. It was chewy, doughy, and thick. I'm going to have to stick with Beard Papa's. read more
