    Hojicha Sesame and Dubai Chocolate
    Michelle T.

We visited Gu-eum for the first time hoping to try their chewy Dubai chocolate cookies, but got there too late in the day. Instead, we opted to try the Dubai chocolate cake and Hojicha Sesame crumble cake. Unfortunately I didn't personally get to try the Hojicha Sesame, but am tempted by the decadent cream topping so would try it if I'm in the area. The Dubai chocolate cake was decent, with the pistachio was on the nuttier side. However, the knafeh was the most crumbly part and kept falling out of the cake which made it hard to get an even bite of chocolate with it. The inside is small but clean and staff are welcoming and quick to take orders. My favorite part is their bear logo. I'll be back to visit if I'm in the area and craving some cake.

Earl Grey, Lemon & Lime, and Churro madeleines

The store is bright and clean with limited tables. The madeleines are about $5 each piece on average. The slice cakes are from about $8 to $13 each piece, not cheap. Their desserts are unique. We got the Earl Grey, Lemon & Lime, and Churro madeleines. The Earl Grey one has some earl grey filling inside and it's very good. You can definitely taste the earl grey flavor. The Lemon and Lime madeleine is excellent. It is very fragrant and you can tell they use fresh lemon and lime to make it. There's also some lime zest on top. The Churro one is the most dense and heaviest in terms of texture. Despite it's with cinnamon and sugar coating, it's not that sweet. It seems a bit dried though. Will return to try other items.

**** Dubai Chocolate Chewy Cookie **** Another *viral* trend straight out of Korea to keep us fluffy and broque. Talking about myself OFC. Currently, Gu-eum is the third brick and mortar in the bay (that I could find) that sells Dujjonku, the trending Dubai Chocolate Chewy Cookie. It's a ball of pistachio cream, kataifi, and tahini that's wrapped in a cocoa powder coated marshmallow. Gu-eum is selling it for $7.50 each and there's a max of 2 per person. The texture was on-point - mochi-like, stretchy with a satisfying chewy exterior that nicely contrasts the crispy nutty center. BUT, the filling was so dry and needs more pistachio cream. It's better than the one at Basquia (Jagalchi) but unless they add more pistachio cream, I wouldn't buy it again. Gu-eum's Dubai Chocolate Chewy Cookie has not blown up on socials yet so no line...for now.

    Injeolmi Crumble Cake

Cute little dessert spot in Saratoga (close to Westgate). Ordered both the Injeolmi Crumble Cake slices and Sweet Corn Cheesecake slices. Between the Injeolmi and Sweet Corn, I enjoyed the sweet corn more. It was very creamy and the pieces of corn gave each bite a nice texture. The Injeolmi is good for those that do not like "not too sweet" cakes. I thought this was the perfect amount of sweetness. Both were good but not the best cakes I've had hence the 4 stars. However, this place is in my top 5 for "not too sweet" cakes.

We happened upon this lovely bakery while we were having tea next door. We were kindly welcomed when we entered the store. They sell French/korean pastries, cakes, teas and coffees. The selection of pastries looked amazing. It was hard to decide on what to pick. The young man helping me was so nice and answered questions I had about some of the items I wasn't familiar with. I received excellent customer service from this kind young man. I decided to pick the earl grey Earl Grey Canele, vanilla bean Canele, brown butter financier, salted butter financier, vanilla bear mochi financier, Yakgwa financier and an Earl Grey Madeleine. You have the option to eat inside. There were several of tables inside. We decided to take our pastries home to eat later this evening. So far we have tried the Canele's and the vanilla bear mochi financier. They were very delicious. The bear shaped financier had a nice mochi chewy center. The canele's were very good with a nice moist center. We will try the rest tomorrow. We will definitely be back to try their beverages and other pastries.

One of the cutest cafes I've visited with incredible desserts and drinks. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, and it was relatively full. There's not a lot of seating in the store, and every table was occupied. The interior of the store is simply decorated, and the main attraction is the beautiful display of delectable cake slices and other desserts. The atmosphere of the cafe was peaceful and inviting. The employees were super nice and had great recommendations. Our order arrived speedily - the service was impressive! I tried the lemon yuza. It was a refreshing drink with just a bit of fizziness. The price was very reasonable, and it was also a fun drink to look at. I can't recommend the injeolmi crumble cake enough. It was the perfect cake slice: moist cake layers with light and fluffy cream. The injeolmi added a subtle nutty taste to the cake. The cake slice was stunning to look at and tasted absolutely delicious. It's also not too sweet! I was so impressed with my visit and am definitely going to be returning to try more cake flavors!

The best hidden gem you will ever find in the Bay Area! Gu-eum is a Korean bakery with some French inspiration. It is a family owned business, with everything made fresh, including cakes, madeleines, cookies, and financiers. The bakers wake up early in the morning to make everything for that day! Their drink menu is also made from scratch like syrups, sesame paste, and toppings. My personal recommendations are the injeolmi crumble cake, blueberry cake, strawberry matcha cake, black sesame gateaux, mochi bear, cocoa financier, yakgwa financier (traditional korean cookie inside) and churro madeleine. The cakes taste super fresh, they're not too sweet, and the sponge cake is fluffy and moist. For drinks, the coffee is amazing quality and not pricy. I love the staple dalgona latte, earl grey bear latte, goguma latte (sweet potato), and the korean coffee. The earl grey has a frozen espresso bear on the top, making for a very cute aesthetic picture! The service is also top notch. The entire staff team is always super helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Everything is so delicious every time I go, I want to eat everything there . You can't find this kind of place anywhere else. Seriously. So if you are craving some delicious cakes, coffee, and dessert, Gu-eum bakery is the perfect place for you!

Knew this place had cakes by the slice so decided to try them. All of the cakes are great, they have the Chinese compliment of not too sweet. My mother's favorite is the pistachio raspberry so I had to return and get another slice. I like the Hojicha crumble cake. It's got that roasted, but sweet flavor of the Hojicha in a delicate and light cream. All the cakes it seems have that light cream to them as they aren't overly dense or sweet. If you need some coffee, the drinks are well made and complement the cakes. Staff is friendly. Inside has a couple of tables. Parking can be a little tough depending on the lunch crowd. Overall, it's a lovely little Korean cake shop that you should go check out!

    Sweet Corn Cheesecake

My friends and I were at a cafe not too far away and I had this spot bookmarked and asked if they wanted to go with me. The shop is pretty small, but very welcoming. When we first walked in, we see the case full of different cake slices and Madelines. We wanted to order something unique, so we went with the Injeolmi crumble cake and sweet corn cheesecake. The cake slices were beautiful! These desserts are perfectly balanced in my opinion. They aren't that sweet, which we loved. The injeolmi was nutty and light. We all never tried injeolmi before, but it was good! OMG, the sweet corn cheesecake was my absolute favorite!! The cheesecake was also not too sweet and the corn bits inside the cheesecake was a nice surprise. I will definitely come back to try their other desserts and probably another slice of that sweet corn cheesecake, yum!

This place is so cute and aesthetic, a total Korean cafe & bakery vibes. With simple drinks menu and assorted of baked goods to offers, I enjoyed my visit at Gu-eum on a rainy day. Got Bear Earl Grey Latte, this one is so cute with the bear ice cube laying on top of a bed of cream/foam, the tea smell was fragant and with the right amount of sweetness. For this item, I think you have to take your time and drink it slowly, as the bear starting to melt, the drink's flavor got enhanced more. I also tried their Madeline, Financier and Cake, they definitely added Korean twist to the French pastries, not too sweet and unique flavors likes injeolmi. Service was nice, my order came out quickly. And if you love taking pictures, you will have a good time at Gu-eum.

We came across this place because we went to cere tea next door. We ended up getting a few items from Gu Eum Cake and Bakery, including their madeleines and the injeolmi cake. The madeleines had a light flavor with custard or jam inside. The chocolate madeleine was the best one by far. My friend loved all the flavors because they were sweet, but for me, they were a bit too sweet overall. The injeolmi cake was kind of meh--I don't think I need to get it again. I would totally go back for the chocolate ones and my friend would get one of each again.

For my birthday, I wanted to try something unique and Gu-Eum had stand out choices. The black sesame gateau was phenomenal and easily the best cake slice I've ever had! The light and fluffy black sesame cream paired with the thick black sesame mochi like crust was divine. I've never tasted anything like it before- must for black sesame lovers. The pecan maple was good as well but muted in flavors and more delicate. The cream was fresh, and I did enjoy the candied pecans on the top. It paled in comparison to the black sesame though! I also got a strawberry Madeline for my parents and, they loved it. They said it was very fresh and flavorful. Overall- a solid five stars. I would give as stars to the black sesame if I could! I will be going back to get more!

    Sweet Potato Financier

I came to Gu-eum Cake and Bakery after grabbing drinks nextdoor at Cere Tea. There's a reasonably large selection of pastries and cakes to choose from. I arrived around 10am, and there was nobody else inside at the time - the workers were in the back but came to the front to help after a few minutes of me browsing. The inside is clean but a little dark, with a few tables to sit at to enjoy your treats. I got the sweet potato financier, and it was pretty tasty - nice and soft, and with a pretty generous amount of sweet potato which added to the texture and flavor. It was a little on the smaller side though for the price. Gu-eum is a cute little bakery, with pretty pastries and cakes. The pricing is a little on the higher end, but I enjoyed my financier and would consider coming back to grab a small bite when I'm in the area.

Hi, is the hours posted on yelp correct ? It shows here that you are closed when I check it on yelp at 2pm on Thursday.

Hey, the hours on Yelp should be correct. On Thursday, the store is open from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

Does anyone know if the caneles are made with Rum? I know that traditionally they are but I'm hoping they might not be.

Do you also have whole cakes?

Yes - you have to order a week in advance. They turn out beautifully!

The closest place that I have had Indonesian coffee is Kopiku in SF (but that is so far!) I ended up ordering a Klepon which is an espresso based latte with coconut milk, Pandan syrup made with palm sugar, coconut flakes! This had such distinctive flavoring that played homage to south East Asian flavors and was so comforting, especially when it was served hot. I love how balanced the pandan and palm sugar was. It wasn't too sweet at all! I am eager to try more flavors here. Service was fast and quick and only took max 10 minutes to get my drink even with a line. In my opinion, the klepon latte was a bit better than the matcha latte. The matcha latte was a bit weak. It seemed to be mostly oat milk flavor with very little matcha. Menu description: Klepon latte [vegan]: espresso * coconut milk [no sub] * house-made palm sugar-pandan syrup * coconut flakes garnish I like the latte, but I felt like the pandan and coconut flavors didn't really come through, due to the prominent espresso flavor. Not a huge deal, but I wish the pandan had more of a presence. All of the staff are super friendly, and I do think that the lattes are high-quality, but I would not get the matcha again. I found it a bit strange that they didn't put the cup lid on for you, especially since there was a long line in a small area and it was difficult to get the lid on while feeling rushed. Also, there's a small $0.75 charge for oat milk, which I don't mind too much, but when paying an uncharge I'd appreciate more non-dairy milk options. Overall, good coffee and vibes.

There was a mix of people studying, working, and chatting with friends; it's a very lively community spot. Despite how chaotic it was, the space was generally clean and the service was great. The cashier made sure to get our names and address us by them. The decor is beautiful, feeling intentionally designed. I thought it was really cool that they have a slow coffee bar area specifically for pour overs (I think) where tech isn't allowed, so people are just supposed to sit and enjoy their coffee. I've never seen that before in a coffee shop. The menu is extensive. Since it was later in the day, the baked goods were half off, which was a nice surprise. I got a blueberry latte and an Asian fusion focaccia bread. Blueberry latte - I liked this! The blueberry flavor was subtle and not overly sweet or artificial tasting. It added a light fruity note to the coffee without overpowering it. Fusion focaccia bread - This was tasty, but I felt the original price was steep ($12). My piece was around 6" x 3". The shiitake mushroom flavor was strong and I loved the addition of scallions and Chinese sausage sprinkled throughout the bread.
