Such an adorable little korean bakery and cafe in Saratoga! I was craving a change from matcha, so I came here to check out their coffee! I settled on the bear earl grey latte because it was so cute. I asked for less sweet. It was perfectly sweetened & there was cold foam! Tbh I wasn't sure if there was any coffee or if it was just earl grey milk tea, but it was delicious nonetheless. I first heard feedback about the injeolmi soybean powder cake being dry but let me tell you now, it's not! Desserts I've tried: Injeolmi cake slice Hojicha Sesame cake slice Sesame Gateau slice Korean Ssal *rice Sponge cake slice Matcha Tiramisu Dubai Chewy Cookie I went back for the hojicha sesame and tried the sesame gateau + matcha tiramisu. I LOVE hojicha, definitely my favorite over matcha. The hojicha sesame is light with hojicha whipped cream and soft sponge cake. The gateau is almost like a firm, almost buttery cookie base with whipped sesame cream on top. The matcha tiramisu was very good! Not too sweet and the matcha cream is smooth. Injeolmi cake was moist and slightly powdery due to the soybean powder. Definitely try this during your first visit! The Korean Saal was interesting since there was soft rice layered between cake layers in the cream. Carb lovers will enjoy this. Dubai chewy cookie is good for what it is. Excellent amount of crispy kataifi filling with pistachio butter cream. Pricey slices but it's nice to have a sweet treat every now and then. Staff is nice and courteous. I had high hopes for Gu-Eum because I love Asian bakeries and they had all the flavors that aren't commonly found in the States - injeolmi, black sesame, etc... and everything looked so cute! Unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing. The madeleines were very dry and flavorless (and this was consumed on the day of). I see other reviewers mention that the madeleines are dry as well. I also got a slice of the black sesame gateau, which had a strong black sesame flavor, but again the cake was dry and hard. I've had Gu-eum bookmarked for a long time, but I've never been able to stop by until this past weekend. They are located in a small plaza so there is parking available and free, but can be a bit hard to find a spot on the weekends. Currently, Gu-eum is the third brick and mortar in the bay (that I could find) that sells Dujjonku, the trending Dubai Chocolate Chewy Cookie. It's a ball of pistachio cream, kataifi, and tahini that's wrapped in a cocoa powder coated marshmallow. Gu-eum is selling it for $7.50 each and there's a max of 2 per person. The texture was on-point - mochi-like, stretchy with a satisfying chewy exterior that nicely contrasts the crispy nutty center. BUT, the filling was so dry and needs more pistachio cream. It's better than the one at Basquia (Jagalchi) but unless they add more pistachio cream, I wouldn't buy it again. We visited Gu-eum for the first time hoping to try their chewy Dubai chocolate cookies, but got there too late in the day. Instead, we opted to try the Dubai chocolate cake and Hojicha Sesame crumble cake. Unfortunately I didn't personally get to try the Hojicha Sesame, but am tempted by the decadent cream topping so would try it if I'm in the area. The Dubai chocolate cake was decent, with the pistachio was on the nuttier side. However, the knafeh was the most crumbly part and kept falling out of the cake which made it hard to get an even bite of chocolate with it. We happened upon this lovely bakery while we were having tea next door. We were kindly welcomed when we entered the store. They sell French/korean pastries, cakes, teas and coffees. The selection of pastries looked amazing. It was hard to decide on what to pick. The young man helping me was so nice and answered questions I had about some of the items I wasn't familiar with. I received excellent customer service from this kind young man. I decided to pick the earl grey Earl Grey Canele, vanilla bean Canele, brown butter financier, salted butter financier, vanilla bear mochi financier, Yakgwa financier and an Earl Grey Madeleine. You have the option to eat inside. There were several of tables inside. We decided to take our pastries home to eat later this evening. So far we have tried the Canele's and the vanilla bear mochi financier. They were very delicious. The bear shaped financier had a nice mochi chewy center. The canele's were very good with a nice moist center. We will try the rest tomorrow. We will definitely be back to try their beverages and other pastries. read more

Cute little dessert spot in Saratoga (close to Westgate). Ordered both the Injeolmi Crumble Cake slices and Sweet Corn Cheesecake slices. Between the Injeolmi and Sweet Corn, I enjoyed the sweet corn more. It was very creamy and the pieces of corn gave each bite a nice texture. The Injeolmi is good for those that do not like "not too sweet" cakes. I thought this was the perfect amount of sweetness. Both were good but not the best cakes I've had hence the 4 stars. The best hidden gem you will ever find in the Bay Area! Gu-eum is a Korean bakery with some French inspiration. It is a family owned business, with everything made fresh, including cakes, madeleines, cookies, and financiers. The bakers wake up early in the morning to make everything for that day! Their drink menu is also made from scratch like syrups, sesame paste, and toppings. My personal recommendations are the injeolmi crumble cake, blueberry cake, strawberry matcha cake, black sesame gateaux, mochi bear, cocoa financier, yakgwa financier (traditional korean cookie inside) and churro madeleine. The cakes taste super fresh, they're not too sweet, and the sponge cake is fluffy and moist. For drinks, the coffee is amazing quality and not pricy. I love the staple dalgona latte, earl grey bear latte, goguma latte (sweet potato), and the korean coffee. The earl grey has a frozen espresso bear on the top, making for a very cute aesthetic picture! The service is also top notch. The entire staff team is always super helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Knew this place had cakes by the slice so decided to try them. All of the cakes are great, they have the Chinese compliment of not too sweet. My mother's favorite is the pistachio raspberry so I had to return and get another slice. I like the Hojicha crumble cake. It's got that roasted, but sweet flavor of the Hojicha in a delicate and light cream. All the cakes it seems have that light cream to them as they aren't overly dense or sweet. If you need some coffee, the drinks are well made and complement the cakes. Staff is friendly. Gu-eum is a Korean cafe that's been around for a few years now and is right next to the original Cere tea. It reflects the cute cafe culture in Korea, serving baked goods and offering caffeinated/non-caffeinated beverages. There is a fair amount of seating with a big table available for doing work, and a couple of smaller tables for socializing in small groups. In the display case they have different types of pastries like Madelines, financiers, as well as cake slices. For my BIL's birthday, I bought 8 different cake slices for my family to try, which they enjoyed. Our favorite was the black sesame and our least favorite was the sweet potato. Unfortunately, some of their desserts may not be fresh. I came here recently with a friend and he purchased a matcha Madeline to try. He was really disappointed because it tasted old and like it had been out. One of the first times visiting this cafe, I remember buying a latte, thinking it was caffeinated with an espresso shot. I came to find out that not all of their lattes come with an espresso shot, which you might have to pay $2.00 for. Be sure to ask whether your drink has espresso in it! The other disappointing thing is that every time I come here they always run out of Goguma latte (sweet potato latte). If it's that popular, wouldn't you think they'd increase their supply (supply vs demand)? I feel bad for giving this cafe a 3.5 rating because I think my views on caffeine are misaligned with this cafe's intention. Korean cafes focus more on creating a cute ambience to socialize rather than fueling coffee addicts like myself. That's probably why their drinks aren't strong enough even if I added a shot of espresso to my drink. For my birthday, I wanted to try something unique and Gu-Eum had stand out choices. The black sesame gateau was phenomenal and easily the best cake slice I've ever had! The light and fluffy black sesame cream paired with the thick black sesame mochi like crust was divine. I've never tasted anything like it before- must for black sesame lovers. The pecan maple was good as well but muted in flavors and more delicate. The cream was fresh, and I did enjoy the candied pecans on the top. It paled in comparison to the black sesame though! I also got a strawberry Madeline for my parents and, they loved it. They said it was very fresh and flavorful. Overall- a solid five stars. I would give as stars to the black sesame if I could! I came to Gu-eum Cake and Bakery after grabbing drinks nextdoor at Cere Tea. There's a reasonably large selection of pastries and cakes to choose from. I arrived around 10am, and there was nobody else inside at the time - the workers were in the back but came to the front to help after a few minutes of me browsing. The inside is clean but a little dark, with a few tables to sit at to enjoy your treats. I got the sweet potato financier, and it was pretty tasty - nice and soft, and with a pretty generous amount of sweet potato which added to the texture and flavor. It was a little on the smaller side though for the price. Gu-eum is a cute little bakery, with pretty pastries and cakes. I can't gatekeep this place anymore. Since this place blew up on social media, every-time I visit there are no empty tables and it's pretty noisy. The place itself is quite small with no restroom, no public WiFi, 3 tables, a bench, and maybe 3 wooden stools. We love this bakery- seems like a nice family run small business. We always get their signature injeolmi cake which is always a hit. This time we decided to switch it up and try their Korean sweet potato cake. It was absolutely delicious and everyone at Christmas loved it. For those that are not familiar, this is not like a typical American sweet potato pie flavor. It's subtle , smooth, not very sweet, and creamy. It's more similar to Asian chestnut cake if you've had that. On the day of pickup, the store lost power due to some storm related issues. But they were very professional and promptly arranged for early pickup. Luckily they had generators powering the refrigerators. The sweet potato cake slice was fantastic - fresh cream was buttery yet light and the sweet potato was not too sweet and not too chunky. Basque cheesecake was so sour and had not exterior burnt flavor I felt I was eating cheese without any sugar. I gagged while eating it which I've never done before. The consistency is also too soft - I think cheesecake needs to be denser. Their recipe needs improvement. Slices are $8 each. I would go back but now need to hope I don't pick a dud flavor. They have an injeolmi slice that looked good too as well as pistachio, grape slices. read more

A lovely bakery with beautiful cakes and Madeleine cookies in the display. The pastries come in many Asian flavors including hojicha, matcha, and injeolmi as well as a variety of fruity flavors. We got the strawberry matcha sponge cake and hojicha sesame crumble cakes to share. The matcha flavor was amazing, and the strawberries added the tartness while the cream added the sweetness. The hojicha cake was also very good, more subtle flavors of hojicha and sesame compared to the strawberry matcha cake. Overall the cakes were delicious, but I'm knocking off a star for the higher price and smaller cake portion. I would want to try their Madeleine and Financiers next time. read more

Today I tried an injeolmi latte and even though I'm not usually an injeolmi fan this one was so good. It had a cream top and injeolmi crumbles scattered on the top. Appreciate that they have non caffeinated drink options. Their drinks are reasonably priced and they have quite the selection of cake slices and other bakery items. read more

This is a cute bakery with nice selection of baked goods with Asian inspired flavors. We got the sweet corn cheesecake and the hojicha sesame crumble cake. They were both SO GOOD! The store is also spacious so it will be a good hangout spot for meeting up with friends indoors. read more

Ordered a cake here for a special occasion and was slightly disappointed with the size given the price. The taste and flavor were pretty good but the cake was so tiny - I was a bit shocked when I received it! I'd stick to the drinks and pastries here instead. read more
