Unprofessional, careless whiners. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!! I was referred to this unscrupulous moving company by another business that was unavailable for my job, and it's easily the worst recommendation I've ever received. I'll be contacting them with a similar advisory. In case moving isn't already stressful enough, Shane and Chris will add to your frustrations by showing up more than two hours late, and not bothering to let you know until 30 mins after they were supposed to start the job. I ask for a call or text when they're on their way (because I couldn't just wait around for them for two hours), and then they call once they're at the home. So I fly up to the house to meet them in less than 15 minutes to find they left to take their lunch break without any communication. When they did finally show up, they spent the entire 50 mins of work whining and complaining about the weight of my furniture and the tight packing of my POD (that was completed by real professionals). Repeatedly asked me if there was anything glass or breakable in boxes so they could just apathetically toss stuff around and carelessly arrange it. Uhhhh, how about you treat someone else's property like it's all fragile/breakable/important to the paying customer?!? What a profound concept. They didn't smartly arrange the space we had to store our property. If they weren't whining about the weight, they were whining that they had to make it all fit in a one car garage. Thankfully it won't be stored long, otherwise I'd be having to find new professionals to fix their mess. Finally, on the last piece of furniture, they decide to bust out a small dolly. It's not your customer's fault if you choose to do things unergonomically, unsafely, and irresponsibly. They then demanded that they still be paid in full despite their inability to follow through on our original agreement, putting me under a very stressful time crunch due to their excessive tardiness. They wanted to claim they'd cut me a deal for my future moving needs, but that is such a laughable prospect, I couldn't even bring myself to acknowledge such a ridiculous suggestion. Why would I ever ask for help from people who don't respect my time, my property, or my finances, and spent the whole 50 mins complaining about the job they were overpaid to do?? JOKES! Maybe they should take the more than double pay they didn't earn and invest in some professional equipment. Unfortunately, professionalism, courtesy, and the most basic level of service standards can't be purchased. read more

I have owed this review for years and now is the time. In January 2020, my roommates and I were moving a large dining room table out of our unit and it was going poorly. We were stumbling so badly that we caught the eye of some movers that just happened to be loading up a truck in front of our neighbors house. These movers saw 3 young ladies struggling with this table then proceeded to yell at us that we were "doing it wrong" in wonderful Irish accents. These 2 men stopped what they were doing to help us carry the table down our 12-step staircase with humorously begrudging flare while saying that we should leave a review in lieu of payment. I booked McMahon Moving for a 3+ hours from a 2 bedrooms flat to a storage unit. Pros: - they wore masks - they are cheap (but honestly, I would have rather payed more given the service provided) Cons: - everything else to be honest. They showed up 2+ hours late. Because of that, the move became super stressful. It took them forever to pack my flat (3 people). They are NOT GENTLE with your furniture. We showed up at the storage unit one hour before closing time. Then they started completely losing it. The boss was shouting at everyone. They broke one of my drawer (yeah it's an easy fix, but wtf, be gentle). I had to carry a lot of stuff myself otherwise we would never have finish on time. Very unprofessional. Maybe if you book them in the morning it will not be a complete sh*tshow. Do not recommend. read more

really, no stars should be given i moved one month ago today. this mf here is not who you want to move you. i request the earliest appointment time 8am. he stated 8-9am and arrived at 10:45am. that's one strike! then i texted to comfirm he has wrap for my furniture, he said yes. he wrap my furniture, (my bed all white, only at one end.) there was dirty/black figure prints all on my bed. strick two!! i label all my boxes, the word fragile were on a few. i had a couple one boxes that look like the picture. in the process of the move, i started to help out with bringing in several of my things at the new location. i notice he try to bring in things that was not mine. so, he kept other movers things. i said it wasn't mine and so did his worker. close to the end, he had a guy cleaning and straighting up the truck and the owner. yelled out, don't spill my beer. really!!! drinking on the job. strike three!!! again, this company is not who you want. i had to take some time to cool off before i commented. my choice of words would not have mad it. all of my boxes are in and open. i noticed my kitchen supply and wines, along with serveral other thing were not here. i called him to inform him that i have one box missing. as a women we know what we have. at least i do. i keep track of eveything!!! as a mover i am aware of things can be broken, like three of my wine glasses. not a problem. i inform him i had wine in that box. if it was crashed and leaking. so, what! it happens! i would have like to receive the remaining items in that box. serveral of those are sentimental to me. but he was a denying a**h**. krama is a mf just like you!!! read more

We were quoted 110/hr for 2 movers and a truck, 2 hr minimum. They arrived late, and told us they would charge us an extra half hour for transportation time due to traffic ($55), even though they confirmed earlier through text that transportation would be free. 5 of us helped them move the boxes and less heavier furniture to their truck for them to load, and it seemed by comparison that we were moving much faster. They took 20-30 minutes after we loaded everything in their truck to get to our new place (the drive time for me was 6 minutes). After they arrived, they took 10 more minutes trying to get the truck up the driveway and ended up parking on the side of the street. To all five of us, it seemed like they were just wasting time. They only take cash, so I drove to the bank to withdraw, and during that time one of the movers made conversation by asking if all of us were Chinese (only one of us is). Overall, not a good experience. Watch out for hidden fees and lots of stalling for more time. read more

Steer clear of this mover if you have fragile and valuable things! ALL of my issues were with the owner, Shane. He recently moved my things from my apartment into storage about 10miles away. Here is what went wrong: - called at the scheduled time and told me he'd be a half hour late. - completely ignored boxes that were clearly labeled "fragile" and handled them roughly. I now have to check to make sure they are ok. - I clearly asked to move my sectional sofa into the back of storage, but when I checked their work half of the sofa was in the center of my storage unit and surrounded by boxes making it very hard to access my things that I wanted near the front - at the end of the move he asked to be paid for 4 full hours of work, even though it took 3.5 hours... - constantly took business calls while on the clock - overall poor/grumpy/arrogant attitude that made me feel like my move was an inconvenience. - "Customer first" thinking isn't his forté. If not for his hired helper, I would give this service 1 Star. read more

Our vintage rosewood furniture store started to use Shane and Chris moving services about 2 years ago. I never thought of writing a review for them and they never asked. I am a Chinese, is in the business for nearly eight years and was always depending on Chinese movers to a point that it was too expensive and helpless to find another way to delivering very heavy and sturdy high end rosewood furniture to our customers. We are an old couple running a small business, it is impossible for us to conduct our business without able to attach to good, honest and reliable movers. Until one day an American customer picked up a dresser from us on his own moving expenses that I and my husband started to know these two young guys. To tell the truth, we are not working very well with them at the beginning, may be due to different culture and different level of demand from customers especially regarding the day and time they should arrive for the moving or pick up. We realize all the time, movers are always struggle with either too much work at one time or no work for a while. So we learn to leave each other more flexible time frame to do the moving job. We can't rush ourselves to ruin our precious health in order to commit ourselves to some jobs or missions impossible. Like last minute request or some kind of dead lines, we need to explain to customers the difficulties of fulfilling the schedule, with reasonable updates and notices ahead. But out of all aspects, what we treasure most is movers' integrity, honesty and carefulness in moving our expensive and fragile furniture. As a store owner, we need someone reliable and trustworthy to go to our customers' home with peace in mind. They can't jeopardize our customer's safety and confidentiality. Shane and Chris are good decent people of good behavior and good hearts by our secret observation. They also have very patient and mild personalities, working in a very calm way that even sometimes I and my husband were fighting with each other how to handle the situations, Shane just tried to mitigate the explosion to smoke. And Chris is always remain silent and tolerant. No matter what, today a customer asked me for their company's name to be put to his gated community security office, I then realized I actually never remember their company's name, finally I found out from some previous record and was curious to see if they are on Yelp. So that is the reason I am here expressing my feelings and appreciation of these two young guys, they do help us to go along with the business well in the past two years. These guys ARE quick! McMahon immediately reached out to me after my service call-out and they stood out from the competition for several reasons: affordable rates, schedule flexibility (aka last minute jobs) and very accessible and easy to talk to. They moved all my furniture and ten incredibly heavy boxes from one spot to another in roughly an hour and a half. The best thing is their minimums: two hours versus three hours (which every other moving company required). So for relatively smaller jobs like mine, McMahon was the way to go. Shane has moved me on several occasions, I've meant to leave a review!!! I moved up on Panoramic Way above Cal campus and its like driving in the hills of Big Sur!!! Here got my belongings up the craziest hills in Berkeley with grace and in a timely manor. They were very accommodating and understanding when I asked for special care with certain antiques. Shane has moved a piano for my boss with persuasion and what I would consider a difficult move! I would give him and his partners more stars if I could. Highly recommended!!! read more

I guess Shane doesn't need the business, even though this is an easy and quick job in SF's Potrero Hill where Shane claims his business is located: 1. Shane didn't respond to my emails on his CL ad 2. Shane didn't return my calls a week later 3. When I did get him on the phone, Shane said he was busy and would call me back--and never did If Shane doesn't need or want the business, he could just say so and not waste the customer's time. I found somebody else on Yelp and I will let you know how that turned out. read more

I don't like to leave negative reviews, but I do like to warn my fellow Yelpers. My first hint that Shane was a poor choice was when I emailed and he asked me to call. I called and the number was, "Not receiving calls." I persevered and arranged for a move beginning at 10 am on Friday. At 10:30, Shane called to tell me that his truck had broken down and he was going to be late because he would need to rent a truck. They finally arrived at 11:10 am. Shane was far from charming; in fact, he seemed almost put out at having to move my stuff. I got them started and left Shane and his helper at my place in SF with my former roommate to direct them. At my new place in Oakland, I got a call on my cellphone, Shane was calling to complain that my bed was too heavy and that he wasn't sure they could move it. Really? Isn't that why I hired movies. According to my former roommate, Shane and his helper argued with each other for about 30 minutes about moving the bed. With my roommate's help, they got it into the truck. When it came time to pay, Shane told me that it was $80 an hour. The ad on Craigslist had said $70. He told me that was an old ad. It was easier just to pay him and get him out of my place. After they left the apartment, I could hear Shane and his helper arguing at the end of the driveway. Apparently Shane owed the guy money. While I unpacked, I realized they had taken the legs off my leather chair. I called my roommate who said Shane had taken the legs off, wrapped them in a blanket and put them on the truck. I called Shane who said he would look for them and bring them to me . . . Five days later, no call, no legs. They also removed the pole from my dressmaker form - that's missing too. I had Shane and his assistant help me move all my stuff from my one-bedroom apartment to storage for the summer back in May, and they were really really great! First, I was strapped to find a moving company FAST, like in 2 (or 1, really, I put off finding movers way too long) days fast, and they were very willing to make last-minute plans for me. Shane was very professional and friendly: he was willing to give me drive to the Wells Fargo to get their payment. Of course the moving itself is the important part. Shane and his assistant were very quick to take my stuff on the day of the move--we were done moving everything in less than 2 hours. None of my stuff was damaged or ill used, despite a large bed frame with moving parts having to be moved down a flight of stairs. Shane also helped me get all my stuff to fit in a tiny storage space; he really knows his way around furniture Tetris. One nitpick, but it's forgivable: they came about an hour and half later than originally scheduled, because of a previous move that took much longer. This is kind of thing that's annoying, but also completely normal for smaller moving companies with fewer hands to help. So note to all of you out there: even if you do have a last minute move, please just work in a spare day for the move (no moves planned down to the last hour!). Will definitely ask Shane to move my stuff again when I come back to the Bay Area. read more

Nathan did a great job staying in touch through my unclear schedule and reassuring me that everything would happen as I had hoped. Shane was clearly the more experienced -- effective at planning how best to move things, at exercising care around the handling of my furniture and in thinking through how to maximize space in my small storage unit, which is great, I know I can use the space well. They were courteous, focused and hard-working. Do your best to calculate how much stuff you want to move because they'll accommodate with appropriate-sized vans. They helped me move twice in June 2018 - one was on the day I originally requested and the other was the day after when I realized I couldn't do the last bit by myself. They had a second job that day, so they showed up with two guys & a box truck, so I asked if I could hire both of them & the truck to make the move faster. They agreed & quoted me an awesome price. This was the first time my husband and I ever hired a professional moving company. We are so glad we chose McMahon Moving - a local, small business that is honest and reliable. We had accumulated some large furniture and lots of "stuff" over 4 years in the Berkeley hills. I called up Shane and he confirmed our moving date and time immediately. I was instantly relieved to have the help on short notice and at a VERY fair price (and with no hidden fees!). It was a near distance move, but it wasn't an easy one. We had plenty of stairs at both locations and also it was a hot day. Shane and Chris were personable, showed up ready to work, and worked hard to get the job done at both stages. When I woke up the next day in our new place, I realized I was spared literally ANY of the heavy lifting from the move, which was awesome and allowed us to focus on the rest of our "move out checklist". Shane responded to my inquiry very quickly and was able to organize the move over the phone. I had a logistical issue on my end regarding timing which required me to contact Shane the morning of my move to reschedule for a few hours later. He was able to adjust his day around my new time frame with zero issues, I felt bad but Shane and his help were able to make it all work and I am very thankful for his ability to still come through. These guys helped me out on a last minute move and drove through three hours of traffic to help me finish on time. Shane and Tom were professional and packed my van safely to include a three bedroom house, two 55" inch flat screens, three computers and two professional monitors. I drove the truck 1,200 miles through snow and ice and absolutely nothing was damaged. Of course get insurance for your move but in my case nothing was damaged because of the care taken in packing the truck. I highly recommend them for short or long distance moves. I rented a truck but they also own a truck and I would absolutely trust them for in-town moves. Thanks guys! read more

I used them for a small move from the East Bay to SF and they were great! Found them on craigslist, called them up, set up a time/date, and they showed up at our set time/date. All items that were moved were in the condition that they were in when they moved them, and they even offered to and fixed one of the legs of my couch that was loose. Shane and Brian did a great job getting us from south Berkeley to north Berkeley, we had already been getting our stuff out bits by bits, and left the heavy stuff to the professionals. They moved out huge desks, filing cabinets, and the family piano, all across a wooded gravely trail. They were amazing, had great attitudes and we'd definitely use them again! Want more bang for your bucks? They were the *most* reasonably priced movers I found in Berkeley, no crazy travel fees for local moves, or outrageous surcharges. I called a couple weeks in advance and they were courteous when discussing a moving date with me. They sent me a confirmation e-mail confirming the time and date of the move. Good so far! The day of the move killed any good ratings I was hoping to give this moving company. They did not show up at our scheduled time; in fact, they were 6 hours late! When they eventually showed up, they stated that they had to get somewhere that night and could not do our move, but they would move our things the next morning. Needless to say, due to other schedule conflicts, I had to cancel that new time and use a different company entirely. I guess they were nice enough when I called to cancel. read more

So where do I start!! First they show up an hour later than the appointment while drinking a beer. They did not wrap some of the items. When they got to the destination they were dripping in sweat. Then complain about the two flights of stairs. They forgot there tool box at the original pick up location which is where they put the screws to the bed that they took part to move. After they realize that they forgot it, and made it seem as it was my fault they left there own tools. Why argue with me about something that is clearly your fault, then say they are working hard. Well that is why we are paying you. Lastly they refused to come back to put the bed together that they actually took apart. Oh!! did i mention that they broke a vase??? on top of the fact they smelled like they had been drinking all day. What a joke of a company.. my advise..SPEND A LITTLE MORE MONEY FOR GOOD SERVICE..I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. read more
