We signed a paper contract when they dropped off the unit, although I don't really remember signing a contract. But then 3.5 years later, they sent us a digital contract and asked us to sign it. But because I don't remember the paper contract, I refused to sign the digital contract. Even though we were paying every month on time for the last four years, they refused to give us one more month with the unit because we refused to sign the contract. Additionally, after returning the unit, my credit card was charged two months in a row, and I had to call the company to get a refund on my credit card. I would recommend the business because the delivery and pickup of the unit was simple. But everything else involved with renting this unit, I don't recommend.

It was a good price for the unit I had but it is older than the other locations. They do not have any carts or pulleys to help you move your stuff. The doors are old. Someone put an unknown lock on my unit, never told me when the lock would get cut, said my account was behind (it wasn't) and then had it tagged for auction. Jamie was amazing. She is in the office (before it was extremely hard to find someone on property). She followed up quickly. She called proactively. All great customer service. She deserves a raise :) I hope her supervisor realizes the wonderful level of customer service that she provided.

Just like their so-called corporate office, you'll end up getting transferred right back to the same location you're already having issues with. There is no real customer support--just a loop designed to avoid accountability. If you're okay with being price-baited, lured in with easy online setup, and then hit with steep rate increases within a few months--with little to no clear communication--then by all means, this is the place for you. Otherwise, don't bother. I would not recommend Extra Space Storage in Elkridge, MD. The manager, Ryan, is extremely rude and repeatedly reminds customers that he is "the manager," as if that excuses poor customer service. The overall attitude from staff has been dismissive and unprofessional. I also learned that Ryan and another employee, Jessica, placed comments about me in their internal system that were completely inappropriate. I attempted for weeks to pay my bill online but the system would not allow it. The month of February being shorter caused the system to push the next month forward, and it would not accept payment for the prior month online even though it could be paid in the lobby. The payment methods should function the same way, but they did not. Instead of addressing the technical issue or the customer service concerns, the facility attempted to move forward with eviction notices. When I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, their corporate office responded only about the fees being correct and never addressed the behavior of their staff or the service issues. The rent for my 10×10 unit increased from $120 per month to $172, which is a significant jump. I also noticed many units on my floor with red locks, which suggests other customers may be experiencing similar problems. If you're considering storage, you may want to look at smaller, locally owned facilities instead. In my experience they tend to treat customers with more respect and understanding. I will be leaving this facility, but on my own terms.

I spoke with someone on the phone who gave a low quote, had immediate availability, and I understood the terms of the quote which were they charge a full hour just to come to your house for travel and then a two hour minimum. Our move went two hours over the minimum. This was not helped by the fact that they insisted on taking their time to wrap everything in plastic wrap even when we had some cheap stuff that we said just throw it on the truck we don't care, and disassembling things that really didn't require it. Our house was only 900 square feet and we did not have all that much and were moving less than a mile away, not across the state or country. We had to finally stop them and say this is getting to be too long and decided to dismount and move our TVs and bed frames by ourselves the next day. We were fine with paying for the extra two hours. Then comes the surprise: A $400 FEE FOR MATERIALS. What materials? Plastic wrap and packaging tape, and I suppose depreciation on their moving blankets? Seriously folks, this company will get you one way or another. Make sure that you have wrapped up everything yourself. Their workers were personable and hard-working, but the business model here is to ensure you go over the two hour minimum and to charge an exorbitant rate for materials. Do not be deceived on the phone when making the initial appointment by their very knowledgeable and reassuring booking staff. That's why I thought a two star rating must have been a mistake. I was talking to a real person. The text messages that were sent seemed to have prepackaged responses and I ask if I was talking to a bot they said no. They claimed their Yelp rating is low because they "don't pay for reviews like other companies." Well, I'm a real customer and have paid dearly to provide you, the unwitting consumer, with this review. Moving is stressful enough. Getting ripped off is just insult to injury. Their phone number will come up as spam on your phone, and if you've made it this far reading this review, you can understand why.
