Apparently people have flocked from there to come to McInnish Park and I'm sad to say, I'm one of those people. McInnish Park doesn't come up right away in searches when you're looking for dog parks so that's why it's a hidden gem. They have a good amount of parking and the standard separate sections for big and small dogs. But wait for.....there's a THIRD section.....ohhhh....ahhhhh.....ohhhhh! The third section is welcome to all pups and features a pond/lake/watering hole for your dogs to swim and play in! I have a six month old pup and while he's been in the water before, really had no idea that he would jump right in. Wrong I was. He could not get enough of the water and sadly I had to pay for it later while attempting to clean him off. The space is nice and heavily shaded so perfect for day time. You have your standard crazy dog people who like to camp out in the small dog section with camping chairs, coolers and cliques so be aware of that. Personally, I would rather socialize with the four legged friends.

There are three section-small dog, large dog & water. Be aware though-the small dog area gets a little swampy too when it rains a lot. All three sections are quite large and grassy (not muddy). There are plenty of poop bag stations, trash cans, water fountains and shady areas. The other pets and pet parents have always been wonderful and friendly. We have been to quite a few dog parks in the DFW area since moving here, and this is my favorite by far (and the dogs love it too). Note: To get to the dog park area, turn where the Carrollton Animal Shelter is-the dog park section is on the right just past the shelter.

The water fountains are clean and functioning well, the waste bags are thick and high quality and there is a TON of shade and seating which is important for those summer days. The pond for the dogs to swim in great for the summer, though if you have small dogs I recommend giving them life vests to wear as I think the water is deeper than it looks at some parts. Note that the pond is not separated between large dogs and small dogs. There is also a water fountain with a hose attachment that you can use to hose down your dogs after they go swim.

There's also plenty of seating for the pet parents and most of the dog park is shaded which is perfect for those warmer days. Parking is never an issue either and we love how close it is to us. Everyone is an expert even if they are not. People go buy $8 squeaky balls and expect all the other dogs not to want to steal it. Where do dogs come from? Wolves - high pitched squeaks sound like prey animals. Dogs come to investigate based on instinct derived from wolves Most of the people stand in an area smaller than the small dog park and then they ignorantly wonder why their dogs get into scuffles. Pack mentality 30-40% of dog owners don't leash their dogs from the car to the entry gate. 50% of dog owners pick up their dogs poop. Yelling and screaming only makes dogs more agitated. Read a book before you come in No trees when the water is on it trickles out of the fountain. Someone abandoned a dog one night and the park ranger ( who drives around aimlessly) and the Lewisville animal shelter wouldn't come and take it to the shelter because it was after hours and the animal wasn't sick or injured. They said to leave the dog in the park overnight and it was below freezing. If your dog is unsure of itself don't bring it to a dog park unless you understand how hierarchy works...use your phone your stuck to all day and research dog behavior.

It's separated into a big and small dog area like everywhere else. Nothing really special in the parks itself. It's an open grass area, there's some tables to sit, and water fountains. It does tend to get muddy, and every so often, there's dog feces that people don't pick up. Either way, it's not a bad location and it can be a good place to go to get exercise for your dog.
