We hit up the dog park behind the restaurants a few times. The place was really cool and our dog loved it just running around and frolicking with other dogs. There is a separate section for large or small dogs and plenty of seating. It's easy to grab food or a beer while you are there. The park was pretty clean and there is access to city water for the dogs to drink. The entrance is tricky to see the first time, but it is behind and kind of in between a bunch of the buildings. Just park in the main lot and walk into the gap between the largest groups of buildings and you'll see the path down and the metal fence.

Dead, empty, and it's 65 degrees outside after a long summer.

The local sucks. It's like they tried to make a college bar in the burbs. Your kids cannot play, even though no one is ever here - because your kids can't play (and turn the speakers down, it's weird being the only one here with college game day banging like this place has 200 people. Good luck getting a bunch of single, dog park people to go sit by themselves in an open air bar. If you don't want kids at your place, don't build a kids jungle gym. Ridiculous - don't come here.

Great place to enjoy an evening/afternoon with your friends and dogs. 1 acre dog park that has tables you can sit at inside and is divided into small and large dog areas. 3 sand volleyball courts(weren't open when we were there) Variety of places to eat and have an adult drink. All 6 food places have outside windows to order from if you have a dog or inside seating if your dog less. Live entertainment many nights one small stage by dog park, one larger stage in The Local restaurant area. Lots of parking and easy to get to off of Plano Parkway.

If you're in the area looking for a fun place to swing by with your pup, you have to come check this place out. The restaurants and bars here are so dog friendly, and the workers absolutely love seeing furry friends come to hang out! The local does have water bowls ready for your fur baby to have a drink, and they also have plenty of food and drink options to pick from. The dog park is also a great place to hangout with people and pups alike. This place is also always hosting various events like small business farmers markets, streaming sports games, or their iconic chicken sh*t bingo every other Sunday. Plus, they have cornhole on their outdoor patio lawn to play some rounds with friends. The only downside is some of the tiny food shacks that appear on their site aren't always open when you expect them to be when you come by. I do recommend taking the chance to swing by to have some casual drinks with friends and let the fur babies of the crew join the fun, you'll have a good time regardless!

They charge you for everything including toppings on burgers .50C for a tomato on a burger? Yeah I'm good Nice area that is ruined by overpriced items They put ice and syrup in a cup and expect you to pay 4$ It's like a big dog park with terrible music I would rather stay at home

The concept is great with food, dogs, and booze. Dog park isn't very maintained as far as cleanliness of dog waste (which the owners should have picked up) but the area is spacious with so much shade!! My dog had a field day. There are a variety of places to eat with windows for ordering if u have your dog. You can get a couple drinks and go back to the park or choose to eat outside patios. It's a great set up for a day out with your pet.

I loved this place till recently. I drive from wylie and the last few visits. Dog poop everywhere! You step all in it. The flies are so bad from it they will bite you. It's already hot add poop and biting flies. Horrible combination not to mention its unhealthy if a dog has any type of worm it's going to infect all the other dogs. It just recently became like this.

I really like the concept of this place A dog park with a few small varied eateries alongside You have turbo coffee pizza and wine Dirty burger Omg tacos and A seafood restaurant who's name escapes me And then you have gggrowlers (beer and wine) -they allow you to bring food from the other places to their patio while you enjoy their many craft beer offerings The patio runs along the entire dog park so you can enjoy watching the dogs frolick and play or (since it's all patio dining, your pooch can join you while you eat. The service we have received from all of the restaurants as part of the shacks has been great Super friendly & of course, very dog friendly The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there is not any oversight on the dog park itself in regards to keeping large dogs out of the small dog area I understand that dog owners should be policing themselves but I don't care how friendly your labradoodle is, if he's frightening my dog , we cannot enjoy the dog park

We love bringing our girl here. A lot of space for the dogs to run around and play. Water fountain and doggy bags on site. Adults can get food/ drinks on site while the dogs run around and play. There is a small (very small) play area for the kids (wish it was bigger) but it keeps the kids occupied. There is a small and large dog area. Food at Dirty Burger and Ten Ramen are great!!

Cool cool cooooooool cool cool. Anyone can hate on this area's little intricacies or maybe a certain restaurant they don't like, but the concept of The Shacks... is perfect. Grab a beer. Wander next door and grab a bite. Or grab both at same place. Take all of the above and grab a picnic table. Watch the dogs in the dog park and their people mingle and have fun. Big mature trees all around. If you're a parent, do all of the above AND let your kids play. Winner winner chicken dinner. I imagine there aren't enough picnic tables to go around on weekends, so heads up there. We took advantage of perfect weather on a Wednesday evening and it was lively but not overcrowded at all. Just right. I love this concept and more cities and towns need to make this happen. Don't bulldoze everything and cover it in concrete. Nestle in a little park and leave some trees and stick some eateries and bars next door. Perfect. Can't believe I didn't check this place out earlier. Reviews seemed spotty, but after a long day at work... when the weather's nice... dang, buddy, this is juuuust riiiiight.

Ask the Community - The Shacks

Do go here once, do I have to pay the membership fee? Or can someone explain the membership fee is/includes/does?

I believe back in the days there was a membership fee. But now it's free

Do you have to be a resident in order to use the dog park?

No. You can gain access to the dog park by making a purchase at one of the restaurants and they will give you the code for the dog park gate.

I discovered this park after joining Plano Pacers last night and seeing that this is our monthly location for 5k races. I walked over to check out the course prior to Saturdays race. I loved everything about it! It's truly beautiful in every sense of the word. What I can say, is on a very hot TX day the park itself (not Legacy trail) didn't seem to have a ton of tree coverage. You'll definitely want a wide brim hat and some sunscreen. The paths, wild flowers, lake, creek, trees, birds, bunnies and so on were all very lovely. I've been running a ton of routes since relocating to the neighborhood and I'm always thankful to find new paths to incorporate in, seeing as though I'm a distance runner and have been trying to put together some ideas for various different mileage options from my doorstep. I was very accustomed to an out and back in my previous city that I could easily get over 20 miles on and have been looking to somehow recreate a similar very straight forward route like that. I will most definitely be looping Windhaven Meadows Park and Legacy Trail into my runs. Highly recommend if you're looking for a gorgeous peaceful place to walk and relax. I can't wait to bring friends and family here!

My husband and I came here for a weekend trek, and it's easily one of the best outdoor spots in North Texas. What I love most is the versatility. Whether you're looking for a smooth, paved stroll or want to get your boots a little dusty on the dirt hiking trails, they've got you covered. It's a great mix of elevation and flat stretches. It's a great spot for everyone. Pets are welcome (on leashes!), and there is a fantastic playground near the parking lot--perfect for kiddos who still have energy to burn after a hike. You'll see a beautiful variety of plants and likely some local wildlife. Just a heads-up: they do have warning signs posted for snakes and poison ivy, so definitely keep an eye on your surroundings while you explore. The parking lot is huge, but this place is popular! We arrived around 1:00 PM and it was nearly at capacity. We were lucky to snag a stall, but I'd definitely recommend arriving earlier in the morning if you want to avoid the parking hunt.
