Great stop for me and a couple buddies. Comfortable Irish pub with very friendly staff! The owner even spent some time with us sharing a story or two about the old country.! Since it was Restaurant Week, they had a decent 3-course brunch menu. All the dishes were good. Portions were large. Nothing was fabulous. They do offer mimosas and a small make your own bloody mary bar. The standard brunch menu includes some breakfast items, as well as burgers and the like. I opted for the fish and chips. First time for me at this restaurant for a catered retirement get together. Food buffet was excellent, fresh fruit, Thai chicken, shepherds pie, Brie/apple h'orsderves, pita/hummus, deviled eggs were all excellent. I didn't try the falafel or grilled vegetables, or desserts. Came for a co-workers birthday, he wanted a good burger. Where else would you find a good burger on a rainy day but a pub. Although the drinks looked good, we couldn't partake because it was lunch, and we as a group are new to the company, and shaky on the policy. Better safe than sorry in this economic environment. Back to the food, I ordered the Lamb Burger, with homemade chips. I have to say I made a great decision. The lamb cooked to perfection, everything from the beautiful ciabatta bun to the goat cheese balanced each other out making you go back for more. This was further complemented by the thick chips with a great crunch, but enough meat (potato) to satisfy any hunger if the lamb doesn't fill you. read more

I've been here before for drinks before movies, and the atmosphere is your typical standard bar, sometimes rowdy depending on what sports game is on, sometimes not so many folks if they are close to closing time. I had their brunch recently (pictured) and I was quite impressed with how much food they give you for the American Breakfast (they even throw in a waffle!), it definitely was filling. My boy and I seem to have a routine. 1. He craves Shepherd's pie 2. We head to McGinty's. Though McGinty's does not serve the most amazing food in the area it is one of the longest lasting restaurants. They have enough of a niche in Silver Spring to hold a regular customer base. I'm guessing that like my boy and me, the regular customers order the same dish over and over. I'd even guess that most of them order the same things that we order- the shepherd's pie and the fish and chips. There are a few other Irish specialties that I'm guessing also are on the top of the ordered items. The fish and chips- my regular order- is delicious, and is offered all day long. Crunchy exterior and tender interior is all one could hold to have, and the fries are tasty. The boy approves of the Shepherd's pie, and I appreciate the side of steamed vegetables in garlic butter. I've recently tried their chickpea burger, which is served with two types of spreadable cheese, onions, and arugula. It was a nice enough lunch for $10, but the patty was almost completely unseasoned, and was too similar in texture with the bun. I'd gladly order it again, but without the bread. I will gift you with one tip. If you are ordering from the lunch specials be sure to mention them. We did not today and were presented with the dinner portion. The price difference between lunch and dinner is $5, and there's no real difference in portion sizes, so it's worth your time and money. read more

This was the most bizarre experience. From the moment we walked in the door the Host had an upset face and didn't greet us whatsoever. When he came by to take our order, he did so clearly angrily so I decided that it was probably not in my best interest to actually ingest the food at this establishment. Upon asking the same host / waiter to cancel the food order and only get drinks less than 60 seconds later he says "the order is already in the kitchen" and starts shouting at me from across the restaurant. Went in about 10pm on a Monday; they were still seating for dinner. We had the Irish Boxty for an app (it was delicious. I am going to look up a recipe for home). For dinner my wife had the Charred Eggplant Spread. If I was PHENOMENAL! A completely unexpected flavor, exceptionally satisfying, and the texture was on point. It went fantastically with the chickpea flat bread. I will be looking this up as well! I had the Wings, Volcano style. Not the very best wings in the world but completely enjoyable and I'd absolutely have them again. As far as heat if you're not a chili head these may be hot but for us they were mildly burny and pleasant. Really enjoyed them. Lightly breaded with chili flake and sauced. One beer, the Boxty, the eggplant dip, and the wings out the door for $48 including tip. Not bad. WILL go again! read more

As a whole the food was ok the service wasn't bad and the prices are moderate. The problem arose when I order my drink. One Manor Hill IPA. After my first sip I could taste a seething off, but I kept on drinking. As I neared the bottom of the glass I noticed a pile of debris gunned up at the bottom of the glass. My first visit was for a group event. This place seems to be well suited for groups. It is extremely large and sprawls over a couple of floors with different rooms. Our group was served competently by one gentleman. He seemed to be pretending responsive considering it was a busy Thursday Happy Hour. I had a vodka soda which is my basic go to. I brought my mom to McGinty's because I love it. I posted a five star review for this place and continued to come back. I brought her because she heard wonderful things about it. We had a new server - confirmed by the manager. I ordered the brunch menu. Typically my salad comes out before my main meal but this time it came together. While I ate my salad my food got cold. My mom was given what my boyfriend ordered. We had dirty dishes on our table that was removed by the kitchen staff...gross. We had to ask for the extra egg we ordered ... which came out much later. Then I had to ask and wait awhile for my crepes. Like I said, I have ordered the three course brunch before and they come out staggered because the waitress takes the time to put the order in the system at the appropriate time. We waited at our table without water for awhile until I has to ask for more. She took all three of our glasses to refill and brought our cups back to the wrong person...we only noticed because I had squeezed my lemon...I am glad we noticed because I was sick!!! I didn't wait to get my mom sick too. We notified the waitress and then the manager. My mom being in the health profession this was a big deal. This morning it was just reported that a measles case was active in baltimore! Mixing up used glasses IS a big deal. We could have moved on and been done with it but the waitress was making comments at the bar to the bartender and other waitresses that we could hear and see! "That lady said we are waiting for our dessert which is not my fault and we are still waiting on water, rude" and then the other waiter made comments as well! I want to repeat myself...I love McGintys and speak of it highly! All of the other waiters working today have serviced me before and I told my mom this is definitely a new waitress because everyone else is amazing!! And are wonderful at their job! I wished we had their service so my mom could see what we love so much... Unfortunately, things got sour when we spoke to the manager. He made excuses for the issues rather than saying he would handle it. He even blamed the kitchen staff! Which is not the problem at all. The food was amazing and the kitchen staff were the ones to remove the dirty dishes! I wont be back or be recommending this restaurant to anyone. The manager did end up bringing us new glasses and apologizing but his excuses were disappointing. The waitress had someone else bring us our check...immature. My first time visiting here was on a Sunday for brunch. We often visit Downtown Silver Spring for brunch and decided to stop in McGinty's to give it a try. Unfortunately the experience wasn't that great. The establishment wasn't busy at all. We arrived around 1PM and sat outside since it was a beautiful day. We were impressed that the wait staff utilized technology for their orders. I ordered the American Breakfast and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. We ended up sitting for nearly 20 minutes for our food while other patrons who arrived after us received their food before us. After we couldn't find our waiter, my boyfriend went inside to speak to the hostess for help. Shortly after her help, our food came out. *sigh* All of our food was cold. The grits were super cold and hard. My eggs were cold as well. The plates were even cold. We waited another 10 minutes before our waiter same back to inform him of the situation. At that point, we were over it. I ate my sausages and waffle since I hadn't eaten all day and they were the only things close to warm. The manager did come out to speak to us (he touched the plates to confirm they were cold) but we still ended up having to paying for my breakfast and my ginger ale. I stopped by McGinty's for a brief happy hour -- and man was I impressed! My friend and I met right out this spot in the lively DTSS area around 6 on a Thursday evening. We took a seat in the bar area at a hightop table and were greeted immediately by a very warm and welcoming server. We were handed a dinner menu AND an extensive happy hour menu -- really helpful that they split out the menus. The happy hour deals go from 4-7pm and cover beers, cocktails, and appetizers. I tried one of their $5 cocktails -- the jack and lemonade based drink and it was really great! I also ordered wings and potato skins for $5 each. There were 8 or so wins as a part of my $5 order...really impressed with the portions there. The atmosphere is really nice, the place is clean, and I felt very comfortable. I've been walking past this place for quite a while. I have even stopped and checked out the menu on a spring day. But I kept walking right on by until today. I am so happy that I actually went in today. More importantly, my tastebuds are really happy. I have had a desire for Fish and Chips for quite some time. Let's face facts. Not many places in the US make a decent plate of fish and chips. The batter must be just right. The temperature of the oil must be just so. The fish should be steaming, moist, and wonderful. That tartar sauce better be right! And, plain everyday french fries will never be sufficient. McGinty's goes a long way towards apologizing for the attempts others have made. To top off a good meal on a cold winter day the last cal brew pint of "Jump the Shark" IPA was a really nice way to go. Gotta a taste for some Fish & Chips and a pint? I came to downtown Silver Spring last week to get brunch with two friends, and with the reasonable prices of McGinty's brunch, we were easily enticed to come here. They have a Prix Fixe menu for $20.95, which is three courses and an alcoholic beverage. I went with the following courses and a Mimosa: 1) Brunch Tart ($7 ala carte) 2a) Banana Custard French Toast ($12 a la carte) [Split with a friend] 2b) Crab Cake Eggs Benedict ($13 a la carte) [Split with a friend] 3) Toffee Bread Pudding ($6 a la carte) The Prix Fixe menu was a little odd, as you either get overwhelmed with two many eggs or too much sweets, so I would recommend trying to split the entrees with a friend to not get overloaded. The brunch tart, which I was most excited about, was probably my least favorite part. The tomato and avocado were ice cold, like they had just been pulled out of the fridge, and the dish had clearly sat in the back for a while getting cold. The crab cake in the eggs Benedict was over-spiced and eggs overcooked, but it was OK. I would recommend the French toast, as it was unique and good- but again the banana part was ice cold. The only really hot thing that came out was the bread pudding dessert, which was very large and sweet. There were a lot of people drinking at the bar at 10 AM, and then there were a lot of families in the bar. That was kind of an odd vibe. Even at the really low price tag of $21 for a huge brunch, this one was just OK. It's a lot of food for not much money, but the care to make it a great meal was lacking. read more

i came here for a meal after the AFI movie thing. food i did a sampler which came small bowls of the following shepherds pie- the best thing i had here, meaty and tasted good lamb stew-cooked well but bland beef stew-see above boiled vegetables-like hospital food the quantity was good but the flavor was missing in most of this stuff. service waiter seemed annoyed that i didnt order alcohol right off the bat although i said i might look at it later. waiter did not tell me anything about the late night HH which was a bit strange as usually they mention stuff like that. i didn't bother to remind him either. even though they had hours till close, he seemed to be in a hurry. also, had to remind him to get me water. ambiance nice pub vibe. i dig. price good given the quantity and quality of food parking free in the lot after 6pm overall if i find myself here again, i might try something else on the menu. they did have some unique items (chickpea burger for instance) and some of their whiskies looked worthy of trying at the HH. read more

I have visited this establishment three times coming in from business. I wanted to give it a good Irish try before I reviewed. The food is premade and lazy. Shepard's pie with Beef is a Cottage Pie (Shepard lead the sheep). Any Irishman like myself would cringe for a beef Shepard's pie, but would have open arms for a cottage pie. Good atmosphere to have a drink, and with several drinks, you can enjoy food delivered faster than Chick-Fil-A. A lot of potential if you ditch the microwave for real homemade Irish food. read more

Oh Mcginty's, I don't want to do this because I like Irish pubs/bars. But with my experience here, I'm compelled to write this. I could rate worse but they have a solid beer selection and it's a large spacious venue with two floors. That's where it stops. On a Saturday night, at the bar on the top floor, we sat near the end of the bar. There should've been a sign saying "we don't serve this area when we're NOT BUSY (and I emphasize NOT BUSY)" cause that's what it felt like. Nobody stopped by after we got our beers. Same bartender who took our drink order ignored us even after I put my menu aside and called him as he walked by. Happened multiple times for 25 minutes before a different bartender finally took my food order. The pulled chicken poutine is what I ordered and it was bland. I kept throwing on black pepper and hot sauce since it was hardly any flavor. It was diced chicken strips mixed with shoe string fries and a little gravy on top. I should've ordered something else instead. Never had Poutine before so not a good first impression with that dish. I came for lunch (after craving a salmon Caesar salad all day!) and the craving was perfectly satisfied. I was greeted as soon as I walked In by Terry. He was also my server who did an amazing job juggling both the bar and the outside seating area since a server called out. The salmon was amazingly blackened moist and juicy!! What a great Irish pub in the center of Silver Spring! I am delighted to have such a nice place so near. WE have been here quite often in the past few months and from the start, it has been such a joy coming here. The atmosphere is authentic and so is the service. They keep an eye on you and make sure that you have everything you want and need. We have tried some of the food, the wings are pretty nice, just like the Fish and Chips. Not great, but I feel like we haven't really tried it out quite well, I have seen some burgers coming by that looked delicious. I am curious abut their authentic Irish food. The beers are great, good sized and very decently priced. They also work with local breweries, which I really like. Our favorite IPA has to be the RAR Nanticoke. Try it if you like IPA's just as much as we do. SO to Phillip, the real Irish lad working there, we have had a couple of great evenings with him. read more

That's if you're unaware that Quarry House is literally down the street, which is cheaper and cooler. Some Yelpers seem to think they'll find an authentic Irish pub across the street from an AMC movie theater and a Borders, and down the street from a Red Lobster. Hate to break it to you, but you have a better chance of finding a great creperie in Wasila. So, let's judge McGinity's for what it is, a nice little cas dining restaurant and bar in a really nice retail island in Silver Spring. They have some accomplishments. They have about a dozen decent beers on tap that are reasonably priced. They have a menu with some interesting items, some quite tasty. And they're one of two places in the area that have a kitchen open late (10:30pm weekdays). I had the grilled caesar salad. Romaine served whole stalk, which is a different take on it (goes with the grilling). Very flavorful and fun. Guest had the reuben, great looking meat, average bread, but they offer a side of fries or salad. Not many places give you a nice arugula salad without an upcharge. Server was terrific. Kind enough to inform us that the kitchen would be closing and that we should place orders for dessert if interested. We were not, but thanks for asking. McG's is convenient and close. The drinks were good too, and not weakened or 'syrup-ed' down as I might have expected. The guy on the guitar who serenaded us all night was pretty cool, too. It's too bad he really didn't know any John Mayer songs. Although his rendition of that "Hey There, Delilah" song was fantastic. I am not a pop culture follower, and I swear I never know how I know the lyrics to such songs; because my radio is never on... but, that is one of my favorite songs, and he got the notes just right.
