I was there last night with some friends to see a great band we have been following for 20 years. Anyone who gives this place great reviews MUST be wasted. my sister and I arrived and asked the host how long the wait would be for a table for two- he (Fernando) proceeded to tell us that he had NO IDEA how long the wait would be! And then continued by giving me the absolute rudest look when i asked him to simply estimate. I have been a hostess before and THE MAIN part of the job is providing wait times for customers. As we saw at least three tables, i asked an approaching waitress if we may sit at one of the open tables, she VERY rudely responded that we needed to ask the host-WELL DUH! Already tried that and was looked at like we had ten heads. Finally, after the third time asking for one of the open tables, we were seated. Our waitress, Emily, was very sweet and almost made us forget about the extremely incompetent host until we were using the restroom before leaving and she proceeded to bust in and accuse us of stealing the merchant copy of the receipt!! After looking through all of our belongings, she discovered the merchant copy after realizing that SHE dropped it! A completely honest mistake, and she was absolutely the most accommodating staff member during our short visit. While we were looking for the merchant copy of the receipt we were approached by the manager (?) an extremely RUDE woman, whose name I unfortunately did not catch- I have gone here several times before concerts and I will say that I will NEVER EVER return and I will make sure none of my friends or even strangers will give money to this completely despicable establishment- if you can even call it that. read more

Honestly, the $5 beer and burger lunch special just about makes my life. That's really all you need. It doesn't hurt that it's pretty spacious and has a genuine feel to it. It's not like your typical prefabricated Irish pub (I'm looking at you Kinsale). It strikes me as the real deal which is fine by me. read more

Went here the other night before a Celts game after initially trying the over-packed bars on Canal where my bro wanted to eat. After trying to get into a few bars with a wait, I suggested my old standby, McGann's. As per usual, McGann's does not disappoint. Arrived approximately 75 minutes before the game with the plan of eating a burger and drinking a beer. Success! Waitress was attentive and quick! She got both my burger and my bro's order correct and I should note that I am quite particular with red meat. I was also impressed with the other staff that were accommodating in getting my card run and getting me out the door with plenty of time to spare. good work, although I didn't expect much less. It's always a good experience whether its food at the bar or a few beers before the game. read more

What a shame and what happened to Tommy McGann's pub? I have been coming to this pub since it opened over 20 years ago and knew the original owner from Doolin, County Clare. What's the problem? The bartenders are MISERABLE. I visited there today, 3/15/2019 at 6 pm. The 1st bartender Melissa did not greet me, ignored me, and walked away from a full bar. After 15 minutes, I sought her out and asked for a drink. I ordered a Guinness and waited another 15 minutes then saw her serving other customers. I reminded her that I ordered a Gunness and she went back to the tap and topped it off after it had been sitting there for too long. The next bartender, Chris just grunted and seemed to lack basic social skills. He was slow, inattentive and was just plain boring. I miss the Irish people that used to work here and knew how to have a laugh and a bit of craic. Hire new bartenders. I love this place. If there is an event at the Garden this is the place to be. This is a real popular spot to warm up before and after a game. It is also a good place to catch soccer and rugby matches. The food is delicious. I love the Shepard's Pie. It is amazing. The real reason to keep going back is the staff. There is a charming Irish girl named Anna that is fun to talk to. Also Mike and Jason do a fantastic job of remembering people's names and drinks. Shaun cracks me up. This guy will have you laughing your ass off. With a staff like this it really has that "Cheers" vibe of everybody knowing your name and you always feeling welcome. read more

First night in Boston ever. Went to the Celtics game and everyone we've encountered has been very nice and friendly. Until we talked to the bartender at McGann's. I asked if they had a beer list and he said yea we got one right here pointing to the taps. Then i proceeded to order a new beer I'd never heard of before just to try something new and he told me it was trash. I asked for his recommendation and he offered a beer i can get anywhere i go in the country. Then when he wasn't happy with my face he was like fine I'll get you the original beer. And i was so offended i just got his recommendation but this is the last beer i will ever have in this establishment. I work near here, so we decided to try it out. I hear they're not often open for lunch, so I guess we were lucky to get in? Anyway, they sat four of us at a huge table which was kinda awk, and my friends ordered beer and burgers, on some sort of deal for pretty cheap. I ordered the buffalo chicken salad, which, when it came, was more chicken then salad. Like, way more chicken. Like, I made my friends eat it. You're probably asking why I didn't get a burger and beer, but seriously, I wanted a salad. The last straw was that it took about twenty minutes to get the bill, and we were one of two groups there. Steps away from the Garden, this place is a prime landing spot before a big show. It was raining and frigid, so we dove into McGann's for some drinks and apps. The place was crowded with people who looked just like us, cold, drenched and ready to do some damage ... let's do this. We were sat at one of the tables (keep is mind that this is an Irish Pub so you will be sat at a table with such oddly short chairs that you feel like the waitress is about to bring you a small pink teacup of air to enjoy) and perused the menu. It had the typical bar/pub/Americanized-Irish fare. Rather than just dive in, I took precaution and started with an order of curry chips. When they came, I was immediately glad I asked for the curry sauce on the side. It was sweet, bland and was probably the perfect accompaniment for the limp fries that had obviously been sitting in the warmer for wayyyyy to long. How that even happens when they were this busy I am not sure. Worse than the food was the fact that I realized that Dirty Water TV was doing some filming there. THE WORST. So now we had the Red Stag girls walking around asking if we wanted a sample of their "new" (it's not new) flavor. I was not annoyed because these girls were in faded pajama shorts and bad heels, but because as they talked to people they kept sitting on the tables next to them. Such a pet peeve! Hey ladies no one wants your ass rubbing on their table (well maybe that man at the corner table does), especially since by the look of the wear and tear of those PINK knock-off cheer shorts, you have been carting them around since H.S. If I can't ignore it even for a free shot, you know it is pretty bad. Overall my recommendation would be to go for drinks, skip the food, oh and always bring a wet-nap for your table. read more

Bar was quiet, nice bartender but a bunch of punks (also the bartenders friends) and foul mouth yutes of the working area. McGann's was exactly what I have been looking for before a game! We sat down, ordered our food, an appetizer, with 2 drinks each! We were in the door at 6:50 and out at 7:20! I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quick bite before a game. read more

This bar is pretty solid. It's quiet almost all the time, for better or for worse; it's authentically Irish (I think it's a replica of a bar in the owner's home town); and it serves decent food and has a medium-sized selection of reasonably priced beer on tap. Basically, it doesn't stand out, but it's a nice place to go if you're in the area. I went here a few times to watch the 2006 World Cup and 2008 Euro soccer tournament. It's a nice change of pace from some of the other soccer-friendly bars in Boston, as it's definitely dedicated to the sport (all thee big games are on big-screen TVs w/ sound on), but it's much quieter and less crowded than places like the Banshee or the Phoenix Landing, so it's a nice place to actually hear the commentary and relax to watch a game, maybe one where you're neutral about who wins. (I'd imagine that's not the case if Ireland is ever playing in a big game though.) read more

Really great place to go to if you want a reasonably priced pint before you hit either the garden to catch an event or North station to catch a train out of the city. Highly authentic with the bartenders themselves being Irish. Very cool and friendly people. This is usually my go to stop for a pint of Magners before I head out of the city. I went here for lunch and I enjoyed it. I ordered the barbecue chicken salad, which was not chicken salad but a salad with barbecue chicken on it, and it was very large and had lots of vegetables in it, and I am pretty sure the lettuce had some sort of of dressing coated on it but I don't know what it was but it was good. I went with the salad because it was the one of the few things on the lunch menu that didn't come with fries. I can understand a pub lunch menu not having a lot of variety, the salad was the most creative thing on menu, but something in the sides would have been nice. It was nearly empty when I went there which might have explained the prompt service, but I will say it was very prompt. So you know, not the most exciting place to go, but decent for a bite. read more

Had pretty high hopes for McGann's. I had been here previously prior to a concert at TD Garden, and it seemed like a good place. We were looking for a place to watch the Celtics playoff game, have some drinks, and some appetizers. There was a pretty big crowd in there pre-game, since it was a home game at the Garden. No biggie, we wanted to watch the game anyways so we figured we could wait for the game crowd to clear out and then get a table as the game was starting. Nope. The hostess was extremely rude from the get-go, as if we were inconveniencing her by trying to give her restaurant business. A rude hostess alone doesn't ruin a restaurant, though. As the game got started, we had a large group of us - about 8 or 9 people wanting to sit, watch the game, and order a bunch of food and drinks. At this point, the place was virtually EMPTY - but when we wanted to combine two tables so that we could all sit together, the hostess told us we couldn't do that. To boot, they stopped serving food! At 8pm on a Thursday night, as Game 6 of a Celtics playoff game was tipping off! They also kept their bar music on, rather than use the game audio. Safe to say, we left on the first commercial break and went to another sports bar near the Garden. I think this bar is a nice place for pregame drinks before GOING to the game, but do not make the mistake of trying to come here for food and beer to watch the game. read more

Came into the Pub at end of Celtics game. The pub was empty. There were like 5 people at the.bar and one bartender. She totally went over us and didn't take our order until we asked her specifically if she was going to serve us or if we were too dark. She was drowning in her own glass of water. She could not handle a bar with 10 peoples and said over and over - hey I'm all alone. Really my best friend is a bartender and she handles twice as many people. She actually had to call for extra help. Then she never told us that the kitchen was closing and when we went to ask foe some wings she said the kitchen was closed. Tip to the manager - when there is a game don't leave a girl who can't handle the crowd and to top it off is rude. But maybe that is what happens when you're a Latina in Boston. If you are looking for a place to watch the World Cup rugby this weekend, think twice!! We found this irish pub online and decided to go with a bunch of friends. We absolutely love Irish pubs and always support them wherever we are in the world! We were each asked cover charge....$10 per game (which apparently is normal in Boston). I arrived at the end of a rugby game to watch the next one so initially the door lady said don't worry about it. Then when our team started playing (about to score a try) she came up to me insisting I pay $20 ($10 per game). Since half of the group of people had ordered food and drinks by that time, I decided not to kick up a fuss and agreed to pay (plus, I was more interested at this stage in the game than trying to argue with a door lady). I did not have cash at the time and said I would go draw money during half time. The door lady got quite agitated and insisted I go draw money at that exact moment or I cannot stay in the pub and watch the game. I could not believe it! There I was, being forced to pay $20 (!!) to watch one full game, right there and then! How embarrassing, for the sake of Irish pubs who are normally super friendly, understanding and accommodating. We were all seriously shocked! One more point...During the game we noted that in total about 15 other people were interested in watching the game but eventually went to find another pub since they felt a cover charge of $10 was ridiculous. It's tragic to see that a business cannot see the benefit of people coming to watch a game of rugby at their pub...so much money can be made with serving drinks and food. Please also note that between 4 people, we ended up spending $200 on drinks and food. Hoping to find a friendlier more vibrant pub for this coming weekend! read more

Unfortunately this place, which had the potential for more stars, earned a paltry 1 star because of the service. I was greeted with a fake hello, as well as when asked if there was a tap menu to coincide with their 45000 taps was simply told 'NO." I was going to order food as well as appetizers, however was never offered the opportunity as the waitress was in left field. She was more concerned with the guy in the corner whom she appeared to want to date desperately. I had to ask for a menu, and selected the Irish poutine and fried pickles. The pickles were average at best, and the poutine came out with a strong curry flavor to the gravy. Soggy steak fries and curried gravy? It appears as if the bitter bartender added some extra flavor to my food for her own miserable amusement. The only word to describe this dish would be inedible. We were not offered the opportunity for additional drinks as it seemed like the waitresses personal friends were taking over their pre claimed side of the bar. Only had one bartender working for just about the entire USA vs England world cup match which resulted in very long waits for drinks. considering the bar was jam packed you would think the management would be more considerate. another bartender finally shows up with about 5 minutes left in the match and me and my friends are ready to close our tab. we all throw it on one card and considered our service to be quite terrible considering we had to wait upwards of 20 mintues for drinks at some points and considering we were sitting at the bar we thought that such poor service deserved a poor tip. this new bartender has the audacity to look at our receipt and bring it back over and try to call us out on it. they seriously need to teach their workers some respect, maybe if they put actual effort into their work they'd get better rewarded. she was lucky we didn't just tear up the slip and give her no tip for such a rude action. will most certainly no go back nor recommend this bar to friends just because of this one Rude female bartender.
