STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun dive-y pub with cheap drinks, but closes early. This was a bar recommended to us by our friends' child, lol. Well, the "child" is well into her 20s, but still. It was close to our hotel so we decided to give it a go. It was pretty large, with well-worn unassuming "decor" that consisted of cheap wood panels, industrial rust-colored tiles, lots of TVs, and games of all kinds. Fancy this place is not, but it's definitely part of its comfortable, low-key charm. We imbibed an assortment of cheap beers and shots and were having a good time until a little before 11, when the bartender came around for last calls. Apparently they close at 11pm most nights, and at 12:30 on Friday & Sat nights--so early! Welp, on to the next place! read more

I came here with local friends who were excited to return to Sully's for their first time in over a year. Yet they were disappointed at how empty it was at 10pm on a Saturday night. I think it was a combination of no Celtics or Bruins game going on, and/or maybe regulars weren't yet familiar with their new-ish "limited reopening" hours. Or maybe it's a reflection on peoples' changing tastes in the area?? This really is a fun place to go no matter how busy - or not - it is. For a "dive" place, the selection of beer, drinks, and pours is pretty good. You've also got pool tables in the back as well as Golden T (admittedly a gravity well for my friends). I'm not sure it's actually someplace I'd want to spend an entire evening, but definitely a place I'd want to include in an evening out and about. read more

Convenient and clean(it's a Dive) when you are in the orange or Lowell line trying to grab a beer or two before heading home. Well, didn't spend a lot of time however the place felt warm on an Friday evening. If you have a game to catch good luck finding a place to catch a quick glass of beer. This place is cash only so you'll get your beer cheap however there will be 100s like you as well. Be aware and play it safe. I do see myself coming here more often just to grab a quick drink or two. Downtown Boston Dive Had a few beers here before the Celtics game. It was right up my alley. A dive bar with interesting and diverse Boston clientele. Pool tables in the back, and "the best vending machine in town". Situated at the corner of Canal makes this an easy pit stop before heading into the new garden. We stumbled on this place to get out of the rain and, well, when my feet hurt from walking all day the only remedy is a foot massage or a good beer. Today it was beer. I had no idea we would stumble on a crowded pre-game of what I later learned to be Bruins fans (I know little of hockey for the record). It was a sea of yellow jerseys in the place and a good vibe. Beers were cheap and dark and the bartender was friendly and attentive even though he was moving quick to serve the crowd. I soaked up chatter with some locals with thick accents who gave us good recommendations for things to do while in Boston, had a couple of pints, and moved on. I'd go back for sure. read more

Came to Boston looking for that bar experience and didn't get it. We got back on the train from Salem and were recommended Sullivans for that dive bar. This is exactly what I wanted and expected. The bartender, Derrick, was great and has been here almost 30 years. He gave that Boston banter back and forth and this was the best bar we have been to all trip. I would highly recommend. Best dive bar out there! Everytime we are in Boston this is a must stop! The longest bar in Boston and one of the oldest! Bartenders know how to do their job but this is mostly a beer joint. 3.00 Ganset cans, 4.00 most domestic drafts. Great crowd before and after Celtics games (which is when we are usually there). What to do when you're trying to catch the last train out of North Station back to the 'burbs? Why, head on over to the dive-y Sullivan's Tap for some $3 cans of PBRs and Narragansett Ale! Bartenders here are "friendly" (read: funny/grumpy Irish guys who hate Yanks fans like me) and service is quick! The narrow bar is loaded with video games and other distractions in a side alcove, giving this place a cozy "game room" feel to it. I'm guessing that some patrons take it a bit too far here, as there are "we reserve the right to tell you when you've had too much...", "we refuse the right to serve...", etc. warning signs plastered all over the place... For us, Sullivan's Tap seems a good spot to start or end your night, and given it's walking proximity to North Station, it'll be easy to make that last train out! read more

Located across the street from TD Garden North Station, this bar is a good stop before and after any event. I will sometimes stop in before Bruins games to "pre-game" and enjoy the company of my fellow fans. Sullivan's is a long narrow bar with numerous TV's and random games to pass the time before events. The drinks here are fairly cheap and the bartenders are always good-spirited. Be prepared to pay in cash as they do not accept credit/debit cards. Our last stop in we enjoyed our time with a few friends and the bartender took care of us very well. It can get pretty packed here, but it is fairly well put together with the long bar and plenty of spots to squeeze in to get a drink. We will continue to stop in on occasion before games and always enjoy our time here! read more

I had the most regrettable experience this past weekend at Sullivan's Tap. Me and a large group of friends came in for the last couple drinks of the night after having dinner and one or two wines in a different location. I came to the bar to order a beer and the bartender, Maddi I believe she was called, refused to serve me and proceeded to request that I be removed from the establishment because I was 'so drunk I couldn't even talk'. The problem apparently was that she couldn't, or wouldn't, understand my accent. She was incredibly rude and offensive when my friends tried to explain to hear that I was indeed NOT drunk at all, that what she heard was just my natural accent, at which point she started going on and on about how she was not a racist. Once outside, even one of the bouncers came to apologize for what happened and even mentioned that this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. It goes without saying that this was a very painful, stressful situation for myself and my group of friends, who proceeded to move on to the bar next door. Events like this should never happen or be allowed in this century, even less in a large and cosmopolitan city like Boston which I have known and even lived in in the past. I would expect management to take action in having employees who are capable of such things. In the meantime, and if you care at all about what how immigrants are treated in your city, I would avoid this establishment altogether. read more

The day time bartender is a real asshole but if you call him an asshole he loves it. if want to be treated with dignity and respect go in on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday's during the summer. If you're looking to be treated like shit and get bad service go in during the day or on the days not listed! Reading the Yelp reviews I imagined Sully's to be dark and dingy full of scowling U-bar mustached men with mullets. How cool would that have been? I was so wrong. Prepare to enter the world of sports jackets, bellies hanging over stonewashed jeans, baseball hats and neon. Inexplicably, I get this weird satisfaction from going places I don't belong. So I stayed and ordered a beer from a polite fellow who resembled a foosball guy moving back and forth on the same plane in his attempts to handle all the hollering men waving bills at him. Had it not been so crowded I would have milled my way to the back through the narrow aisle and shot some Big Buck Hunter or boxed but instead I marveled at how Baaaahston the whole experience was. And then that there's an entrance/exit on two streets. Perfect for a one beer walk through. read more

This too is one of my top two or three bars in city. This is a "dive" without all the campy attributes. This is the best establishment to frequent before watching my beloved Celtics do battle. Their diversions are second to none; Buck Hunter, Pool, a kickass jukebox, and HotShot (a game in which I hold several single game, and career records, but that is a yelp for another time). It's claim is that it is the longest bar in Boston, but I have a feeling that is bullshit. The drinks and beer are cheap, and it is only crowded before events at the Fleet. The bartenders are not the type who are impressed with themselves for the fact that they work at a dive, they are, in a word, angry; but if you get to know them, are polite, they can be a delight. Do yourself a favor and clear an extra hour or so before a game or concert and head in around 5, the atmosphere with speak for itself. read more

"Sully's: When You Don't Want to Go Home Yet" That's my personal motto for Sullivan's Tap, and you can take that spun on the + or the - side. As an Orange Liner, this is my go-to location for "one more drink" before heading home to the nawth and back to reality. It fulfills this need rather nicely, I say. It's the sister bar of the Tam and these two fine ladies definitely look related. Sully's is def the taller of the two and she has a few more bells and whistles, if you know what I mean *gwink* There's a couple basketball hoops, pool tables, and a pinball machine in back, once you sidle down the l o o o o o o o o o g hallway bar on your way to the back. Just want to get right to the point of this whole freakin' experience? Sully's has a decent selection on tap, with the usual hop suspects represented along with a couple surprises such as Longtrail. The cocktails are no nonsense and served with a heavy hand, just as God intended. It's a good place to watch a game as there are several TVs at the bar and an even better place to watch the people. When I've been, it's usually a mix of Boston lifers, the 21-40 shitshow set, a couple quiet alkies, and sometimes a hipster wanders in and looks super confused until he texts with finger-less gloves to figure out where his friends went. They happen to have the best handrawn pictures of various sports stars that I have ever seen. There are bartenders. They got some locals at the bar. There is an unsettling vibe best described as collective-drunk-freak. There are bouncers. There are huge lines after events but if you get there at an odd time you are A-OK. There is an incredibly long bar. There is alcohol. There are dragons. There are unicorns. There are old timey sea captains playing accordions ALL OVER THE PLACE. A top notch dive bar! I never knew that there was a liqueur license that would prevent you from being served a drink that contains more then 3 different types of alcohol in one drink...until I hit the tap. I asked for a Long Island and the nice gentleman said he could only make it with 3 liqueurs but said he could make one that taste just like it. Yea not so much, the result was a mixture of drinking diesel gas and rubbing alcohol....but mad did I get sloppy drunk. This is the type of place were you can go and light yourself up a little bit before you go to a bar with all its teeth. What can you say about Sully's Tab? Its like pre-gaming before a 1980s Bruins game. Its small...loud (at time), cheap and about as friendly as Vladimir Ruzicka (he's acctually very friendly!). It has doors on Canal and Friends St! So running from the cops...that comes in handy (up Friends...through Sully's and then over the dam)! The drinks they have are just as good as anywhere else. They have Sully's Light (house beer)....Stella.....Blue Moon....Sam and the Sam Summer, Winter....ect....Any hard drink you could want...but don't drink anything to heavy...the bathroom is very interesting. Urinal...Urinal....toilet with a 2 foot wall seperating it....so you'll be taking your #2 with your 2 buddies peeing. Ohh yea...and who ever is outside in the Friends St end of the bar. As the door opens with a full view! This place is great to pre-game or just get shitfaced before going to any of those "hip" bars in North Station! Get drunk for 20 bucks then pay 20 bucks to get into some place when the drinks are twice as much! This place is Boston before the 90s and every fun loving true Bostonian will love it!
