The search for Happy Meal toys: Sanrio x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Hawaii Kai, Honolulu, Hawaii... I was in the area for Ross and Costco when I decided to call the nearest McDonald's and ask them, "What number Happy Meal toy do you have?" Answer: "Numbers 11 and 12!" I drove over quickly! This McDonald's is really nice because it's in a classy neighborhood! The seasonal decor was cute, the air-conditioning was great, and the staff were pleasant! The young man at the counter was efficient and helpful. He looked for the #8 toy... just in case... but there was none... Thanks for trying! I got the cheeseburger (no onions) Happy Meal for my niece and the hamburger (no onions) Happy Meal for my sister. They both like extra fries instead of apple slices. I upgraded their extra small drinks for free to large size fruit punch. They were happy! I'm super happy with toys #11 and #12! Now I know where this Hawaii Kai McDonald's is... further in from Kalanianaole Highway!

Yes, there's a McDonald's about 1 1/2 miles from my home. And no, while it's close by, I don't go often, knowing that eating its food all the time is not nutritional. But once in a while is okay. McDonalds was founded in 1940 in San Bernardino, CA and has more than 50,000 restaurant locations worldwide. The first McDonalds in HI opened in Aina Haina in 1968. The McDonald's in HI Kai opened in 1969 and is one of 72 locations in HI. It sells hamburgers, chicken, French fries, soft drinks, shakes, breakfast items, and desserts. It also sells items on a regional basis, with menu items only in HI: * Rice. Due to a large Asian community, its influence on rice makes it available during breakfast. * Breakfast meats. Spam and Portuguese sausage (Pacific Sausage is the local vendor) are popular in HI and are served with rice in its breakfast platter. * Fresh apple pie. All McDonald's on the Mainland have converted from frying to baking their pies. But because of local influence, the pies continue to be fried in HI. * Haupia pie. The pie contains a creamy, smooth pudding-like filling of coconut and is fried. * Rotating items. Taro pie (purple in color and similar to sweet potato), McTeri Deluxe (teriyaki burger). I normally enjoy the fish filet sandwich and the sausage McMuffin without egg. On occasion, there are promotions, e.g., 50 cents double cheeseburger on National Cheeseburger Day, free large fries on National French Fry Day, BOGO, and I'm game on these! And every so often, I will indulge in a quarter pounder, chicken McNuggets, chicken sandwich, and fries and also take the grandkids to get a Happy Meal. The food is reliable, and prices are reasonable despite that there is no food production in HI, there is an additional shipping cost to bring in the food from the Mainland. As with all fast-food restaurants since Covid, the McDonald's in HI Kai has and is still in short supply of workers. Workers may not be fully trained, as they have not been employed long enough. As a result, orders may not be made correctly, and wait for orders may be slow. Orders should be checked to see that everything's there; if not, it should be brought to the attention of the manager. The manager and a few long-time employees, who are normally older in age, are there to address issues. One of these long-time employees crafts these beautiful floral arrangements for holiday displays in the restaurant. I've seen them for Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, graduation, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. In addition to a floral arrangement, each holiday has its own enhancements, e.g., graduation will have photos of employee graduates, and Halloween has varying colors of smiling pumpkins. The displays are placed throughout the interior of the store, so if you dine-in or walk in to order, you'll see them. You won't see them if you use the drive thru. You don't normally see displays of this kind at the other McDonald's. I also love that McDonald's gives back to the community via its non-profit organization, Ronald McDonald House Charities. A percentage of the restaurant's sales go to this organization which funds the Ronald McDonald House, a place where families with seriously ill children can stay. It also funds the Ronald McDonald's Family Rooms that are in hospitals where families can rest and relax. The restaurant interior is bright and clean. It's a popular spot for retirees and students for dining in just for leisure, for short one-to-one meetings, eating meals, or doing school work on your laptop. There's no rush to leave, as you can stay at your table until you're ready to leave. Hours of operation are daily from 5a to 11p. McDonald's is located in the HI Kai Shopping Center with Safeway and CVS Longs Drugs. As McDonald's is located near the entrance, there is sometimes a backup of cars going using the drive-thru lane; just use the next lane on the left to either drive straight or right turn around these cars. Lots of available parking in this shopping complex that is shared with other businesses. Knowing what I'm getting, reasonable prices, a celebratory ambiance, its charitable intent, and close to home make this a pleasant McDonald's that I don't mind going to

YAY, McDonald's Teri burger is back.......my favorite, messy, but oh so good. Wonderful hamburger slathered with teriyaki sauce, a tomato, lettuce with fries and iced tea. The drive thru was fast since I ordered with the app ahead of time. Take out is the best, we come home and eat and watch TV....the bestest ambiance ever. Will go again very soon.

I thought everyone loves McDonalds! It's surprising to see EVERY SINGLE McDonalds rated 3 stars (only 2) and lower. Did everything go downhill when McDonalds got rid of their PlayPlace? What happened to Grimace and the Hamburgler?? More concerning, where is RONALD?? It's obvious McDonalds moved away from kids and focused on adults, which I don't believe worked very well. Let kids have fun! Not whatever the heck some kids are doing now. This McDonalds is the quintessential of focusing on adults--making it more like a cafe. It's located in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. There's plenty of parking and a drive thru with two ordering stations. It gets pretty backed up while the inside is essentially empty. The inside was very clean and spacious. Cashier was friendly and pleasant. The food was as good as McDonalds can be. Many people complain about getting the wrong items. Can check before you go, right? Happened to me before. Just go back and they'll kindly give you the right items, and on some instances they even know they got it wrong and give you extra! Overall an excellent McDonalds. Clean, solid staff. With the Happy Meal for adults. There's plenty of space to bring back the PlayPlaces....for adults! :p

I love this place because it's ambience is really warm and welcoming. They have a wall acknowledging ALL public high school graduates at graduation season & they had a little table reserved for a decor of MOTHERS DAY with flowers in a vase, a balloon & pillows. SO CUTE! Didnt take a photo tho! Ugh! Also, their food is fresh. So far all orders that were ordered took a while to make because they were constantly cooking from the long line they had. So everyone's food was fresh. Their drive thru is super busy tho. Oh and restrooms are available here! So anyone who needs a quick bathroom stop, HERE'S YOUR PLACE! Only thing is... place is a bit small AND prices seem a bit more than I expected. Unless that's how long I haven't ate at McDonalds. But, overall... This was a great place. Thanks!

I ain't gonna lie to you folks......I'm not much of a fan of McDonald's hamburgers, but if ya wanna talk about McDonald's breakfast, or their ice cream cones? Let's talk!!!! McDonald's in da 808 is unique, as it has some very unique menu items that you can only get in da 808 like a Local Deluxe Platter - which consist of Portuguese Sausage, Scramble Eggs, Spam - or can we say ("Da Hawaiian Steak"), & of course some white rice!!! A hearty breakfast meal that is so satisfying! Eat that everyday, and you'll pay for it later when you gotta pull your blood & visit your doctor later! Lol! All kiddin' aside, McDonald's breakfast is da BESTEST!!! Other items that you can only find at McD's are like our - Taro Pie, Haupia (coconut pudding) Pie, Fruit Punch, Apple Pies that are deep fried (not baked), and recently McD's stopped selling their onolishes Saimin. This particular McDonald's restaurant is located in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood, at the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. A nice clean restaurant, and because of the nicer area, you will see waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less rift raft hangin' out at this restaurant. My recent adventures here were not for breakfast, but for a nice cold ice cream cone. The cone served at McD's kinda reminds me of Dairy Queen which brings very fond memories as a kid. My only wish is that McD's brings back the Chocolate Dipped Cone, as it's one of my all time favorites.

Lunch with extra lettuce and extra Mc Sauce

My lunch stops on the weekends for lunch breaks. Clean store friendly workers and very happy. Good job workers.

Walks ups allowed

Almost hit two people in the drive thru since I guess they allow walk ups now told the lady it was stupid idea to be taking their order since you can't really see someone standing right by the window but she didn't care so seems like the do it all the time even knowing there was a car coming since she just took my order. To top it off the got my order wrong as usual

Haupia pie - so good!

I don't think I've ever given 5 stars to a McDonald's, but there's a first time for everything! I love this McDonald's because they are super fast and there is rarely ever a long line at the drive through! I went there 3 times during my most recent trip, and ordered the same thing - the Portuguese sausage, eggs & rice platter for $5.49. They are super generous with their portions! I also tried their Haupia pie, and that was warm and delicious! Customer service is also friendly and speedy! This location should be the model for all McDonald's!

We've been here so many times because it always quick and fast. But recently this McDonalds is just not cutting it. We been doing the mobile orders and just placing the order before we get there. Then we park in one of their designated spots and it messages them to bring out our meals. They've messed up so many orders doing this mobile ordering. I've ordered the deluxe spicy chicken sandwich for my husband on several occasions and it has never been. One time it was the worst. It was a chicken patty and a bun. No lettuce or anything else. It looked so sad, I felt sorry for him. Today was just another one of those days. McDonald's has this rewards app now so I've been accumulating points. I saw that I had a free happy meal so I decided to order it in a mobile order for my daughter. I ordered a cheeseburger happy meal and an Apple pie. We get home and my daughter is telling me, "mommy this isn't what I ordered". She said it was nuggets. She was so disappointed, she told me throughout the whole lunch about how McDonald's messed up her order. So I double checked just to make sure it wasn't me that ordered the wrong thing. Nope, receipt says cheeseburger. If you do go to this McDonald's, just make sure you check your bags before you leave. They tend to get things wrong or forget to pack it. We had nuggets with no sauce. The other time we had no juice for the happy meal. Take your chances.

And she's like, it's a ? key as she walks away from me, but I couldn't really hear whatever she said so I follow her down the hall to ask her what she said and she just goes in the bathroom and slams the door, which is when I realize it was probably an employee bathroom and there is a code for the other "public" door and the first girl didn't even tell it to me, the other worker didn't either... oh yeah and it's a one person bathroom FYI -- I've been here before and love love love this totally unassuming spot, there is a Safeway and longs drugs, just a big open lot then this Island Brew which is like an oasis, but never used the bathroom before... After looking over the menu I chose an iced Hawaiian honey latte along with a lilikoi scone while my dad went with a salted caramel scone. Our order was ready within about five minutes and we were quickly on our way. I first tried the lilikoi scone and really enjoyed it. It had a nice sharpness that was balanced with just enough sweetness to keep it from being overpowering. My coffee was good as well. The coffee itself was deep and rich and while I picked up a bit of sweetness at the start, the Hawaiian honey really came through on the finish. My dad also really enjoyed his salted caramel scone. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. We both enjoyed our scones and I thought my coffee was solid as well.

I enjoyed the Guava Cream Cheese more because of the chucks of cream cheese, but my partner thought the Guava was too tart. The Iced Latte was a dark roast, with a little less milk and more coffee; a good pick me up on a hot day. Overall, worth stopping by if you're in the neighborhood, but come early if you want the full selection, by 10 am they were already out of some flavors.

Beef Sukiyaki Combo = ONO ----- My aunty recommended Heavenly a while ago but whenever we decided to try it there was always no reservations available. Well, we were finally able to lock in a res for brunch on a Saturday before a Costco run. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. The restaurant was pretty busy when we visited and there was a wait at the door. Heavenly is located in the Koko Marina shopping center. There's lots of parking available. The ambiance is great and there is a fantastic view of the surrounding water. The seating is super comfy and casual with sofa-style chairs to sit in. Heavenly has a very eclectic menu. A large portion of the menu is dedicated to breakfast offerings, but there is also a very sizable selection of Japanese dishes. I wasn't craving anything for breakfast, so I opted for the Beef Sukiyaki Combo, which came with a hefty portion of beef sukiyaki, rice, a soft-poached egg, and miso soup. This really hit the spot. Everything was delicious. If you like gyudons, you should definitely consider the beef sukiyaki here. My wife ordered the loco moco and subbed in a falafel patty. I was expecting the patty to be hard and/or dry, but it was utterly perfect! It was crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. And it paired so well with the gravy, egg, and rice. I would highly recommend this dish as well. We ordered an acai bowl for my young daughter, which was also great. This is our new brunch spot on the east side!

It was a bit noisy from the customers on the other side of the room, so she had to speak a bit louder. I figured that since I'm there - and we walked all the way across the parking lot - and around the corner to find this place, I should get something... because it was quite a warm October day... My order was a POG (passion orange guava) iced tea. The woman didn't ask me for my level of sweetness or amount of ice. She just made the standard. It was alright. I let the ice melt because it was a bit sweet. I saw the passion fruit seeds on the bottom of my cup which told me that it's pretty authentic. The coffee is amazing, easily one of the best roasts I've had on the island, and the small outdoor seating area gives it a cozy, tucked-away vibe. It became one of my go-to spots to study, read, and bring friends (especially coworkers from another café) because I wanted them to experience how good it is. What made it special to me, though, was the staff. There's a duo that works there who remembered my order after just the first week. It's not like my order was complicated--just an iced mocha with oat milk, a little extra sweet--but that small gesture made me feel genuinely welcomed and seen every time I came in. That's why this experience was so disappointing... About two weeks ago, a friend and I were sitting outside and had hit a vape. We were told no smoking, and we immediately apologized and left within a few minutes--no issue there, completely understandable. Fast forward to today: I was sitting outside again near closing time, not really in the best headspace, and absentmindedly hit my vape, not remembering i was told not to. The owner, Oliver, pulled me aside and said an employee felt disrespected because I had previously been told no smoking and still did it again. I completely understood, took accountability, and apologized multiple times. I was then told to leave immediately and that I'm no longer welcome back. While I accept that my actions had consequences, what happened next made the situation feel extremely uncomfortable and honestly unsettling... About 15 minutes later, I had walked to the café where I work (which is nearby), and the same owner came in shortly after. He didn't order anything--instead, he stood there staring me down across the counter. The tension was noticeable enough that my coworker told me to step to the back. He then asked to speak to a manager, and when told the manager on duty was a woman, he specifically asked for the "boss." When told they weren't available, he left his number and left. The manager called him shortly after asking what she could do for him and he said nothing, he only wanted to speak to the boss. This felt excessive and inappropriate. Being asked to leave a business for breaking a rule is one thing--but following someone to their workplace and attempting to escalate things further crosses a line. I truly did love this café and supported it heavily, spending hundreds of dollars there, posting them on social media every week and recommending it to others. That's what makes this situation so disappointing. I take responsibility for my mistake, but the way this was handled afterward didn't feel respectful or professional. I feel soooooooo uncomfortable. Would've left more stars if I wasn't followed and stared down at in my workplace...?
