Definitely where the locals have breakfast. It was quite busy when we arrived, and a madhouse by the time we left. That being said I had high hopes for this place. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff was very friendly and helpful, but that is the highlight of our experience. The food is your generic processed fare. I ordered the Montana Avenue Omelet with bacon, peppers and mushroom and that was it. No sides included, just the omelet and for the price, definitely not worth it. The Guy had the biscuits and gravy special along with a side of banana bread. The banana bread was good, but the gravy was odd. Neither one of us has ever seen biscuits and gravy where the gravy was yellow. Needless to say, he was not impressed and didn't finish it. I also got an Irish Cream latte for the road, and shockingly this was the worst latte I have ever had. So bad that I dumped most of it. Friendly service. Order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Interesting menu, not very "traditional". I had the Toucan Breakfast which was very unique and very good. Good coffee, they give you a cup and you get your own coffee (and refills). They have an espresso machine so they can make fancier coffee drinks. Free Wi-fi. The quality has really, really slipped. I tend to judge by the basics, and the basics here need some work. The coffee is basically really really hot water. The rolls and other pastries taste and feel not as if they are day old, but DAYS old. I think their Salsa is probably Pace. This place needs some changes. read more

From the vast majority of reviewers this place seemed like a good enough choice for lunch. The staff was fairly nice and the atmosphere was alright...aside from the show tunes that were playing in the background. I ordered an Avacado burger, no bun. The woman asked me how I wanted it done, I said medium. 40 minutes later, here comes a char-boiled, ash-tasting burger. I was starving so I ate it, but got very sick afterwards. The best thing about this place for us was the coffee. Both the house blend and dancing goats were tasty and had robust flavor. When ordering I was told the waffle of the day was blackberry... Have eaten here for breakfast very often and have enjoyed a lot of the menu items. Favorite is the Tucan. It's very creative and delicious. The coffee is also especially good. Visiting family in Billings, MT and we wanted to find a great place for brunch. It was suggested we stop by McCormick Cafe. It was ok. I'm not used to ordering food and then trying to find a table. The menu was limited and I ended up just getting two poached eggs on toast. My yolks were over cooked which was disappointing. Other people at the table ordered French Toast-looked pretty good. We are from out of town and like to try the local favorites. Our order wasn't right, they made us the wrong crepe, we ordered the Nutella crepe and they brought us the lemon. We waited for the right one. My daughter decided she didn't like Nutella once she finished it. (Too rich) I had the Monte Cristo it was very good with fruit. My son had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich it was good but comes with tortilla chips. We upgraded for $1.00 to get fries but they didn't bring them. When I asked about the fries our meal was mostly devoured and we didn't want to wait for them. They offered to refund my $1.00 or give us a scotcheroo to go. We took the dessert. I have had two negative experiences in the last couple of months. The first, I came in with my husband who was using a walker, from a knee surgery. I ordered our breakfasts, we sat for 45 minutes without an employee coming by to speak to us, and watched the three other tables, two of which came in after us be served. Finally when I asked the cashier she stated the cooks never got the order and they had just realized it, I asked for our money and tip back as my husband could not sit there any longer. The second time was this week when a friend and I order together, I received my meal with toast, when I had ordered an English muffin, the potatoes were try and unseasoned. My friend received her breakfast 20 minutes after mine, only when she asked where it was. The eggs were over cooked and the rest cold, the staff unapologetic. I won't be back. read more

Talk about an awesome breakfast option in Billings! I am in love with this place. So much so, that I am thinking about stopping my review and heading up there before breakfast is over! The space is awesome... an old hotel thats been refurbed. Its so quaint and unique. I had steak and eggs, which was good. The service is what really sets this place apart though. The waitress and staff behind the counter are incredibly friendly. Our orders came out fast. And, they have to-go cups when you're ready to leave for coffee refills. A quaint, perfect-for-Billings type of place. The cafe has a charming chalkboard menu with readable handwriting. Our cashier/order taker at the counter was a 10 in friendliness and prompt drink delivery. We asked about the special: BBQ Ham and Swiss Cheese panini. She said they were really good but the cook left hers on the grill too long and it was hard. I about choked. One extra star for kick-ass honesty. We ordered it and I told her to make sure the cook didn't leave it on the grill too long. We took a spot in back by the stairs. They have GREAT seating in this place. Lots of country-style wood chairs and tables placed spaciously apart so you can have an enjoyable conversation with your lunch guest. The skinny fries were seasoned just right and the panini was quite filling. And no, the cook didn't burn it. I doubt I'd order it again. There's not very many choices in between cities for food. The food menu at McCormick Cafe is simple but good. We booked the back room for a luncheon buffet after a funeral service. Thank you to Charley for coordinating this -- it was perfect. Everything was ready when we showed up -- sandwiches, chips, fruit salad, homemade cookies and brownies. It was relaxed and warm. We were able to use the video projector to show our tribute DVD again -- great sound and a large screen. The day before, we dropped in for breakfast, and it was excellent. Just randomly found this place with Yelp on my iPad, breakfast was out of this world. Had a mocha both times... 2 stars for that... not the best I've had, but average in a non-coffee shop kind of way. I didn't try the other stuff, if I had to guess, the espresso is kind of a Costco type or something and very weak. I'd recommend to the ownership that you kick up the brand a little and charge a little more.. Peet's Coffee beans maybe? Had the Denver Omlette on day one, OMG, I'm not an omlette fan but it looked good and I was blown away. The slice of toast it came with, no idea what that "country bread toast" is, but it was phenomenal. Excellent grainy kind of texture but not the weird after-taste a grainy bread usually has. Second day I tried the french toast (needed more of that country bread toast thing). Again, out of this world. I'm a picky-reviewer and I'm pretty harsh in general. No doubt on this one, 5 stars. We flew into Billings and were looking for a quick bite. The place looked interesting; we like to try local places when we travel. Despite being in the shadow of the Crowne Plaza, the neighborhood looked a little dicey. The St. Vincent de Paul Center was on one corner, the Welfare Admin building was down the block, and there were some interesting-looking citizens loitering around, and a couple of American Indian guys swinging a rope at each others' feet. We took our chances and tried the place. Good call! The Fire-Grilled Steak Sandwich was good (being from Louisiana, we felt it could have used some seasoning) and the Avocado Wrap was great. The coffee was exceptional! The service was okay; again, being from the South, our expectations could have been skewed. We were in around 1:00 on a Thursday, so not too busy. Restrooms were clean, parking was adequate, place had a vintage feel to it (I'd love to get my hands on the lighted glass display case). I would recommend it. read more

I have been frequenting this restaurant for 6 plus years and I have been disappointed once and it was because I showed up during their change over time and missed out on breakfast. The good news is that has changed and you can order the Breakfast any time they are open. The Toucan Breakfast is by far the best breakfast served in Billings. Fill up your own fresh brewed coffee Dancing Goats is my favorite and sit up at the window and watch time go by as you enjoy your breakfast. The staff took some time getting to know and all are good down to earth people. Now if I could convince them that their breakfast potatoes should be the side with the Toucan not the good fresh fruit that is offered I would be the happiest customer they have. I can't forget the Crepe with Nutella is also another side that's hard to pass up. Also would like to add that the Tuna sandwich is my lunch favorite. read more

I wanted to love this little cafe/coffee shop so much because of the cool building and friendly staff, but I've eaten there twice and both times the food was just not good. Last time was the most disappointing. I ordered their special, a scramble with breakfast potatoes, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, ham, bacon, and cheese. My scramble arrived without the potatoes and bacon, but the worst part about it was that the vegetables were completely raw. I'm not kidding. Imagine eating a bunch of raw onion and mushrooms that were tossed with some scrambled eggs. There was absolutely no saute on the veggies, unlike any scramble I've had (or made myself) before. Some raw tomato is fine, but really, a ton of raw red onion with scrambled eggs? They have "Best Breakfast in Town" stamped on their menu, but you could get a better breakfast at Denny's. read more

I've eaten here about 4 times, it's always the same. Complete chaos in the kitchen and the host/ordering counter. They're always out of certain items on the menu. Loud and obnoxious wait staff seems disorganized. Food is mediocre, biscuits and gravy is pretty bad. Sausage patties VERY well-done, 40 min wait for food and it comes out cold. You've got to get yourself coffee, silverware, and anything additional you may want (hot sauce, ketchup etc). I'm done. I suggest you pass as well. read more

Their crepes were the reheated/pre-made type (not freshly made) and tough as nails, french toast was gooey and their bacon was deep fried! Met some out of town family for breakfast today, thought McCormick's would be fun... Instead we got unorganized and SLOW. It was honestly an hour from when we ordered until our meals came. We were visiting and lucky to be with good company but still the wait was ridiculous. The food was okay. My brother-in-law stated that his eggs were not what he ordered and that his meal just wasn't very good (steak and eggs. Wrong eggs, bland steak and no hash browns). My sister really liked the biscuits and gravy and it's pretty hard to ruin oatmeal. The servers really seemed lost and overwhelmed, wandering front to back multiple times with plates of food randomly asking tables if it was their order. Flew into Billings, MT on my way to Wyoming for work with two coworkers. After spending the night in Billings we decided we'd stay in town and get breakfast. Thanks to yelp we ended up here and it was delicious! We all wished we could have come back for more meals and considered just staying seated for lunch after reading the menu but alas work needed to get done. When you go in there is a huge chalkboard on the right hand wall and shows the breakfast and lunch options. Breakfast includes make your own omelets, crepes, granola and yogurt, french toast, and many other delicious options. You order, receive a number and go a find a seat with after getting your own coffee or soda. They have three coffee options (as well as lattes and espressos and such) - a decaf, their brew (dark), and another funny named one (medium... named something about dancing goats). Two of us got the Montana omelet (cheese comes standard and then you can pick 3 other things as part of the price) with onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. It was amazingly good and the very good toast that came with it was a very hearty bread. My other coworker ate the granola with yogurt and fruit. She said it was delicious and was the first to suggest that we stay for lunch since that menu looked great too! This place was a shockingly good meal with very pleasant staff and a pleasant atmosphere. We couldn't figure out the feeling it (or the locals) gave off - some how it felt like a collegy town crowd (but isn't), gave off a bit of a Colorado feel, and a sight crunchy/granola vibe. Server taking our order was not interested in customer service. We ordered, my friends breakfast came out and mine 20-25 minutes later. I ordered based eggs and they came out hard as rocks. My potatoes and English muffin were cold. When I showed the lady who took our order that my eggs weren't based, she explained that the cook left them on the grill to long!!!!
