Our first stop wine tasting and it did not disappoint. We sat in the front of the shop, street side, next to the heaters. The fire was definitely nice since it was starting to get quite cold out. Our wine servers were incredibly knowledgeable about the winery and the wine, which I was very appreciative of. All of the wine we had was incredibly good. The rosé was definitely a standout. Take it from a thirsty local in the know, McClain's Cellars is truly one of the best tasting rooms in the valley. Allie, my host, is super knowledgeable of the all the wines (and there are many). She was attentive but not overbearing with great little anecdotes to go along with each pour. The ambiance is fun with plenty of bright colors balanced with cool white. Great "yacht rock" soundtrack with plenty of vinyl selections to pick from. PLUS a pool table and PAC-MAN both complimentary. I guess I should say something about the wine. It's GREAT! Many varietals to choose from in price points from middle of the road to fancy pants. Choose your tasting menu and enjoy. There are several different flights to choose from and they pour 6 tastes instead of the usual 5 that most places do. This was first overnight visit to Solvang and in the evening McClain Cellars was recommended by the Inn, which was near by. We went and were visited by a very nice server, who answered all our questions on the wine and appetizers they had. My boyfriend and I made the trip down to Solvang from slo and stumbled across this place. We were just planning to walk around and look at the shops but we got to talking with Tanner and we ended up getting 2 flights and a bottle by the end of the night. He made us feel like old friends and managed to prioritize everyone else there as well. It's rare to see someone who truly loves what they do but Tanner clearly does. I received an email, asking me to schedule a day/time to pick up my wines I ordered. I set a date, drive 2 hours to pick it up, to be told the wine I ordered is not there. I'm told by a manager that they will ship my wines, free of charge, and it all will be handled and shipped out Monday. Wednesday I receive a bank notification, they charged me for the shipping of the wine. Thursday is when I was able to get ahold of a manager and find out that it was only then being shipped. They refunded the charge but did nothing to keep me as a customer. It took 4 hours round trip to come home empty handed. We were not offered ANY additional comps/deals. THIS BUSINESS IS HIGHLY FLAWED, you've been warned. read more

There is a pool table that is free to play, this adds to the atmosphere of old school classic vibe where we can just come in drink a few glasses of wine, and just unwind. I very rarely give a bad review and usually keep negative vibes to myself. While our server was nice, she started the tasting saying we needed to tell her if the wine had turned bad because they had been closed for a couple of days. ‍ I thought that was weird considering I had no idea what their wine tasted like. We ended up sending three wines back because they smelled and tasted off. We were told one of them was exactly what they intended it to taste like. The whole thing was very unfortunate. With so many wine tasting options we decided to go for this cute place because we saw how popular it was especially later in the day. We both opted for the valley wine flight which came with 6 various white wines. The first one was our absolute favorite. This one was called the white sails and it was the perfect way to start our wine flight. The final one, kiss of life, was also a favorite of mine. Unfortunately my friend didn't care much for this one. The other wines were good too but these two definitely were the best IMO. Just left and had the most amazing time, had to sit down and write a review. First off, Sebastian is great!!!!!!! He made our experience memorable and was so knowledgeable about all the wines. He took our experience to the next level. We loved how he painted a picture for the wines and really made us feel welcome. The wines speak for themselves but having Sebastian there to guide us through them and navigate the tastings as well as the best part of the whole experience. He was so professional, sweet, genuine and just an all around good time. The ambiance was beautiful and inviting. The food, while small, was delicious just the perfect bites while wine tasting... my kids loved the mini game machine they were entertained. Great place to stop and taste wines.
