Our hotel offered 2 for 1. We got there right before it got to busy. The lady working sat us outside poured the wines and explained a bit about them. It was a very relaxing setting. All the wines here are good, I would love to visit their winery. I told the lady working she was doing awesome because she was working alone and was on point. My husband and I decided to stop by as we were visiting Solvang for the first time. The place was pretty much empty but the two people at the counter ignored us and did not welcome us in one bit. We stood there and felt invisible as we were waiting. One of the ladies looked at us and then looked away without even saying anything. If it's closing time and they didn't want to welcome anyone in, they could've at least said they're closing soon and we would've understood. read more

Please know that I am not an avid wine drinker. I like what I like, and overall hate the pretentiousness of the wine industry. That being said, I like wine that tastes good. Don't ask me to taste the apricot, sandalwood, or spices. Ask me if it was good or not. Simple as that. That being said, this is a review of my humble experience and i do not pretend to suggest that everyone will find their wines delicious. I came, liked the wines, drank, and left happy. About all I can ask for. Came here on a Friday afternoon. We purchased two wine tastings and were pleasantly surprised that every wine we tried was really good!! I am not typically a white wine drinker, but even those in the tasting were really good. We loved the service and information that Elizabeth provided. She shared great details about the wines and also about the origins of the wine names. I really loved the personal connection to the wine names. We purchased 3 bottles to take home and found out that they also have a tasting room in Orange County!! Bonus!! Woohoo!! We came back the next morning for the sparkling Rose (Dream Keeper), which is totally yummy and refreshing for hot weather. We will be sipping this by the pool. Overall great experience. Wines were a little more expensive than what I typically purchase but worth it. We'll be back!! read more

What an amazing, soon to be local favorite gem. Fantastic wine selection for my wife and I who were in town for a work conference. The music kept us both entertained until they closed down. We bounced around from the well decorated inside and the comfy atmosphere on the patio. I am so glad we stumbled on to this place as it just opened. Yesterday was by far the worst experience I've encountered in my lifetime. I'm not certain if it was due to race or sexuality, but my partner and I were treated horribly. We decided to try this place because people rave about Solvang being the such an amazing, warm and welcoming city. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a woman. It wasn't the warmest but we decided to make the best of it. I inquired about playing pool on the lovely pool table. The first comment was "you can only play if your buying wine or bites". I mean it was obvious (or not) lol but okay. My reply "yes ma'am we are going to wine taste". We started our tasting and played pool. Roughly 3:45p, my partner took a phone call. I stayed seated waiting for her to finish the call. I enjoyed the wine that was being brought by our server. I was not loud. My partner even stepped to the other side of the restaurant to take the phone call. Again, I stayed seated. When the woman (out server) came back she noticed that my partner walked off with the glass. I told her that she was just taking a phone call and I'm sure she'd be back. She was speaking with her family. I asked if it were a problem if she walks around the winery courtyard with the glass. (The glass was not full, remember we were only doing tastings). The woman argued that they could lose their liquor license because she walked out of the establishment with a glass and their logo on it. Then she made a comment saying "this is south beach, you can't just walk around with wine". But this time, the woman was upset and went to get a manager. As the manager approached, my partner walked back in. She sat down and started crying. Naturally, I'm going to console her to see what's wrong. I stood up to go near her chair, the manager yelled out "whoa whoa... I'm calling the cops". As if I was being aggressive with him. I told him to call them... we did NOTHING WRONG! They never asked us to leave. They never said anything to us. They told the cops that we were extremely intoxicated. Again, not true. This situation escalated for no reason. Other than my partner, walking around the courtyard with a wine glass. Moral of the story... I'd think twice about enjoying wine in this winery and city for that matter. It doesn't seem to be LGBQT friendly. Also, Mr. Jason McClain, your server (the woman that helped us) made it very clear that the establishment was BLACK OWNED. She yelled it over the cops as we were in conversation. If it wasn't a race issue, there was no reason for her to validate your race. Feel free to contact me directly to discuss this matter. We had a wonderful afternoon of wine tasting. Great atmosphere and right on Mission Street. Sebastian was fantastic! He walked us through each tasting and did a great job explaining each pour. No rush and he really made us feel special. We purchased some cheese and charcuterie to pair with our pours and really had a great time. We ended the afternoon with a couple rounds of billiards. Overpriced and crappy wines! Unfortunately, our experience here was terrible. The place was empty and our server had gone m.i.a. after the first pour. What was being poured tasted like it had gone bad. Apple cider vinegar taste better than the "Masters Flight". We paid over $80 for two tastings of bad wine. What amounted to less than 2 glasses of wine. Solvang has much better wines elsewhere. read more

I can't say enough about McClain's. We tried them years ago in Laguna and Jason is so friendly and welcoming. When we decided to move to Solvang we were excited that they opened the new location in Solvang even though they already had a place in Buelton. Always friendly staff! We are members of McClain and have tasted at both Laguna Beach and Buellton. Their wines are all fantastic! We were spending a few days in Los Olivos so decided to try their new location in Solvang. Walked in and were enamored by the aesthetics of the room. The decor is exquisite and their front patio is comfortable with an awning and fountains. People watch Mission Road! Wow! Apparently "having a busy day" is an excuse to not honor reservations. My wife and I just attempted to get seated here, were rudely greeted by a tall guy with curly hair. Instead of saying hello, he immediately shouted: "no tastings!" Okay, kind of weird for a wine bar -- but whatever. I then asked if he would honor our reservation and he told me that he had a busy day. Note to the owner -- I have busy days all the time too. It doesn't affect the way I treat my customers. You have a lot of work to do on customer service. If you can't honor a reservation during normal business hours you shouldn't be in business. read more

The reviews did not disappoint! Our server, Isaac, was THE BEST! He is very knowledgeable about all of McClain's variety of wines on each tasting list. He has years of experience in the industry and I've known him since he moved here to open other tasting rooms in the area. If I owned a business he would definitely manage it for me! This cellar is by far one of the nicest inside in all of solvang. They have games and pool for family's to enjoy. The problem is that their wine is way way way over priced. We have been a member for six months and since we live so far, the benefits are not work it. The bottles average $70-90 per bottle which does not match the quality. If I lived closer and received more of the benefits, then I would probably be on the fence with the business and staying a member, again the quality of wine does not match the price. When trying to cancel my membership, they stated I signed a one year contact. I am a member of seven wineries and have never ever seen a physical contract to be a member. Pretty unbelievable they do not disclose this at which I will never do business with this company again.l after my next two orders are filled. I highly recommend not to do business with this company and will ensure my customer, family and friends do not either. read more

Wine tasting was wonderful!! My Mum chose the whites flight, and I chose the reds flight which helped a charity organization. Great server...if I recall his name was Sebas. Beautiful lounge, comfortable, and selection of seating options. My Mum was celebrating her 80th birthday, we had comfy seats near the patio. Live music inside the lounge!!
