Country Potato Soup
Amanda S.

I ordered through the app, as per usual. Today, I tried something I've never ordered before: a bowl of potato soup. It looked so good and hearty online; I just had to have it with the cooler weather. However, it is nothing like photos! It dawned on me a little too late to take a photo, but posted one for you to see. I will not be finishing this bowl. It does not come topped with cheddar, bacon, and green onions like the pictures show. The soup broth is thin, as you can see in the photo. The consistency is about the same as milk. What prompted me to leave a review was the potato chunks - about half of them are not thoroughly cooked (raw in the middle). McAlister's, you're slipping; big time! Please get back to the good quality and freshness that I've come to know and love. The reason I gave the review 2 stars (instead of the 1 the soup deserves) is because their tea is still outstanding. That particular recipe hasn't changed.

Showed up 30 minutes until closed, the service was great, the cashier gave me recommendations of Sandwhich deli, I choose the BLTA and was impressed on how well it was put, I will be coming back in the future, due to how tasty the Sandwhich was.

Proof of ordering cookie

Ordered a cookie with meal never came? We ordered 2 meals that came with pickles and neither had one.

The paper thin pickle pairs beautifully with the burnt to shit sandwich! Honestly, my favorite way to spend an egregious amount of money on lunch.

The woman working the counter made our visit. She was excellent and great customer service, helping us decide what to order and didn't mind our questions. The soup/sandwich combo was good and came out quickly

2"x2" foreign matter inside sandwich. Cheese wax paper?

Schilo's is a San Antonio institution, and after eating here, I understand why it's still thriving. I was told before going that the split pea soup was a must. They were right. Thick, hearty and packed with flavor. This is serious split pea soup. The kind that eats more like a meal than an appetizer. And then there was the pumpernickel bread served alongside it. Oh boy. Give me a loaf of that bread, some butter and a quiet corner and I could have happily called it dinner. But that would have meant missing the Taste of Germany. The schnitzel was excellent. Crispy, tender and exactly what I was hoping for. The cabbage was another winner and paired beautifully with it. The wurst? Unfortunately, that was the weak link for me. It just didn't have much flavor on its own. Add some of their spicy mustard and it comes alive, but I shouldn't need mustard performing CPR on my sausage. Beyond the food, Schilo's is just a cool place to experience. There's history everywhere, the atmosphere has character and you get the feeling that you're eating somewhere that has been part of San Antonio forever. A very solid four stars. Probably 4 1/2 if Yelp would let me. Go check it out. It's absolutely worth it. Just maybe not wurst it! ‍

I passed this on the way to my assignment location and began researching this spot. Some google…read morereviews mentioned they are F1 fans and Ferrari people. So I knew I had to check them out. I was able to make my way here on my last day in San Antonio in late March thanks to my flight being delayed and my oh my, I am quite impressed! The older gentleman taking my order at the counter gave me a big smile when I mentioned I heard you have this thing called the serious sandwich here. He told me that they do and then stated "You won't regret ordering it, seriously." Chuckling, I decided on a half order of that along with a side of potato salad and their side of beans. After taking my first bite, I realized the gentleman was right. This is a dope sandwich! Excellent cured meats in the salamar and pair of hams along with the provolone and melted cheddar with the veggies, spices, italian dressing, and mustard. The bread they use holds up well and has a slight crunch to it. If you prefer your bread to have softness to it, you may have to ask if they can substitute a different bread instead of the italian flat bread they use. But I absolutely love this sandwich the way it is! As for the sides, the potato salad has a slight mustard taste and right consistency with a dash of paprika on top; just the way I like it. The beans are charro beans (I think) that are served steaming hot with some pork trimmings mixed in; I may have dipped my sandwich in it a couple times for flavor explosion. What can I say, I'm adventurous! There's some ferrari memorabilia and posters on the right side where some of the high top seating is. As a Ferrari F1 fan, I appreciate them displaying this here along with the track map of the COTA circuit in Austin. The seating area is spread out nicely with plenty of seats/tables and a drink station with some random signs up. All of interest to consumers like us. Definitely recommend coming here for either the serious sandwich or other delicious ones like their meatball sandwich or manhattan. I can't wait to come back and try the other ones but I may just stick with the serious sandwich cause I loved it. SERIOUSLY!

What an amazing meal!…read more My fiancé and I swung by for lunch on our way to the Witte and we're so glad that we did. The interior of this place was so unique, the staff were welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. Naturally we had to sit in the upstairs dining area just for the novelty of it, and while we didn't have to wait too long for our meal, we had fun playing the trivia card game that was on each table. I ordered the Parmo Pollo Panini with Tomato Basil Soup. The chicken in the Panini was a little dry, but coupled with the Tomato Basil Soup I could hardly tell. While they were delicious together, both were just as tasty on their own. The Panini was a good hearty sandwich, and the Tomato Basil Soup was packed full with delicious spices. I ended up taking up half of both the Soup and Panini to go as the portions were so large. I'm glad we went at the start of lunch rush as it was packed by the time we left. I'd highly recommend W D if you're after a satisfying meal!

Apparently the kitchen was short staffed so instead of ordering a breakfast item we ordered a couple of paninis. The food took some time to come out but again, they were short staffed and it's Sunday brunch , there's gonna be a wait and that's fine! When we did get our food we both really enjoyed our paninis! The Green Belt Melt was delicious and not over stuffed, the bread was in my opinion the best part though. Really tasty and crunchy! The inside of the place was also super warm but the building itself is an old house, like a very old house, so again what can you expect? Overall we'd definitely come back but hopefully get a table downstairs and go earlier in the day when it isn't as hot.
