After some eye strain problems, I realized my current prescription was well out of date. I set up an appointment with Maz and happily, discovered the shop is practicing good COVID19 precautions, which I take very seriously and scorn anyone who does not. In addition, I have an autoimmune issue that could cause vision loss and the doctor who performed my exam took extra care to be sure nothing abnormal was happening. He was patient and helped me understand the issues. Finally, the staff helped me find new frames for my progressive lenses that aligned with my insurance benefits and flattered my face. I have gotten numerous compliments on them. Best of all, there was NO period of adjustment for these glasses. I often forget I'm wearing them. read more

I'll start by saying I have been here many times before (because they take my insurance, the American Healthcare system Sucks) and I have had issues with them in the past. A big problem is the 2 women at the front dest are so mean and nasty like someone peed in their Cheerios. So on 2/23 my daughter (12) accidentally breaks her frames. I call them to get new frames ordered. Now this was not their problem it took until 3/7 for the frames to come in. Problems with the supplier I get but I had to call them to find out they were in. I called late on 3/7 and they said yes they were in but I couldn't make it there in time before they closed. On 3/8 I picked my daughter up from the bus stop so she wouldn't miss any school. We get there by 3:10 (now I wear glasses myself so I know how long it takes to put glass in new frames) we are there for 20 minutes and one of the 2 women from the front desk asks if she had a spare set at home. I told her no and she proceeded to lecture me on how important it is to have a spare set at home. I try to talk and she very nasty says don't interrupt. She continues to tell me the guy who shaves or cuts the frames won't be in until Friday. The women was have a hard time putting them in. So I asked are you done, then told her I know how important it is to have a spare set I wear glasses myself. She understands it as well and her spare set unfortunately got broken. She's 12 it happens. I asked her if she learned her lesson my daughter said yes. I told her I know how long it takes to put glass in new frames. I asked the woman who was trying to put the glass in the frames could she put them in the old frames and finigal somehow the frames until Friday. That's when I found out when she took him out of the old glasses she broke the other side as well. So she continues to try and a mother with her 2 kids comes in and we have been waiting almost an hour now and they get their new glasses. One of the kids says it's a little tight so they get the woman trying to fix my daughter's glasses she stops and takes care of the new customers, treating us like a piece of After being there until 4:15 She finally comes out and says I'm sorry I just can't do it. Then she said she called her manager and she's gonna come in tomorrow to cut the glasses. So she sending my daughter home last night with no glasses she can't see. Which means now my daughter is going to miss her morning classes cause she can't go to school because she can't go to school because she can't see. And I had to take off from work to drive her down there to pick them up at 10 AM. All this could have been prevented if they said when I called The man who shaves or cuts the frames is not in until Friday I would have said I'll see you Friday. So, I went to the Holbrook office for a follow-up appointment for contacts. I always go to the Patchogue location but because they are closed on Monday, I was sent to Holbrook. Anyway, when I arrived, I went to the front desk and told the receptionist (older lady) I was there for a follow up appointment. She checked me in and told me to have a seat, which was fine. Then she called me over and said in a nasty tone, while the doctor was standing beside her that I was suppose to be wearing my contacts. I told her that I didn't have any left and I wasn't informed to do so. And as I'm writing this review, I'm thinking why didn't this woman ask me about not wearing my contacts when I checked in. Why? Because the doctor probably said something to her regarding it and in turn she miss directed her anger towards me. That is the reason I am writing this review because she shouldn't be in a customer service role. All I could say is NASTY. So I won't be visiting that office any time soon. I gave 2 stars because the doctor was nice. it would've been five stars if I didn't have interaction with the receptionist. read more

The doctor was so kind and patient with my hard of hearing, 85 year old dad and answered all his questions. I was on the fence on a pair of frames at the Patchogue office so I strolled over to Holbrook where I met Marilyn & she is a GOD SEND! She spent so much time shopping with me, I felt like I was hanging with my best friend! The Holbrook office has more on-trend brands, it was so hard to choose. I need a frame with a deep pillow so the frame doesn't sit in my line of vision - they had no shortage of options. Great experience at the Patchogue location. Got our eye exam and fitting in a timely manner. One thing I'm not happy with is the placement of the bifocal. I told him that I liked them higher then normal. He assured me they were the same as my old glasses. They are very low and I need to tip my head to see the same as my old glasses. Every visit I make to Maz Optical in Holbrook is exciting and the furniture is changed... (My mother used to move the furniture in our living room when we were at school). It reminds me of that but all of the furniture is full of amazing eyeglass frames to pick from. But fear not-if you cannot ever figure what you want in glasses-Maz staff will certainly help you pick out the best fit for you. I have seen the staff under pressure and handle it professionally. I have seen people excited to see for the first time with contact lenses. I have seen them also struggle to help my husband (6 different type of lenses) purchase and wear contact lenses. My mom and I went here for the first time ever today and WOW!! We will be using them as our primary eye care. First, they were SO nice and friendly! The whole process was so quick and they were so helpful. They let us pick out and try on frames ourselves (but told us they'd give us their opinion if we needed it!) After we picked our lens, they had our glasses done not even an hour later! WOW! We love our new glasses and can't wait for our next appointment with these awesome ladies. We will be recommending them to everyone we know and they take a lot of insurance companies! I'm not one to give negative feedback but I must respond to this request for a review I received via email. Cordial customer service does not appear to be a priority at this business. I have seen them berate their customers when they have a problem with a purchase and have experienced this myself. It is quite sad to watch this happen to a senior citizen which I witnessed at the East Patchogue location. Even if is a customer's error, the staff should deal with it tactfully unless the customer is belligerent. Out of pocket expenses are not fully explained and I have seen that their prices differ between the two store locations on the same frames. Also, it is my opinion that they have sold me demo frames at full price. That said, I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The front staff is extremely rude. The doctor was awesome. The front staff were mad I asked if they had anything similar to my previous glasses.They said I was being way too picky. When I said it's fine I will pick others they wouldn't show me the other ones! They measured me and everything for glasses & said they had the same pair I had previously. The next day They then sent me my prescription to get glasses elsewhere because "I was too much work". No phone call, nothing. My insurance doesn't pay much for just glasses and I couldn't have my eye exam elsewhere since Max billed me for my exam and I only get an exam every two years. After writing this review as well as one on my Facebook page and a local Facebook page the owner spoke to me and agreed to order me glasses. I NEVER complain & work in customer service. I was inexperienced with the whole eye dr thing so I brought a very experienced person with me. He was appalled at the archaic testing they used. The drops in the eyes is so old, they have a machine now that blows air into your eyes and you can still see when you're done. Unlike the drops that make you almost blind for hours, then when it comes to getting the glasses, they INSIST you get progressive lenses for a large fee that they say is guaranteed or they will refund you if you don't like it, well, this was not the case at all. My friend told me not to get them because my lenses were too small and it would make me nauseaus but I didn't listen. He was right. So i brought them back expecting them to honor their promise of a refund and instead, she tells me she won't charge me extra to change them. Oh how nice. Nowhere does it say they don't offer refunds. I should have went elsewhere and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman. Shady and untrustworthy. read more

They'll give you information most places won't just so you're involved in the decision making behind the scenes. There's a lot of nasty reviews about insurance on here, and how they tried to get money out of them and whatever. It's funny, you know they don't have to do anything regarding insurance? That's 100% your job as a patient/customer. They do it as a courtesy since most people can't figure it out, or don't understand. They aren't professional insurance providers. They deal with the same people on the other end as we do, and it's not easy to keep track of 100s of plans and payments I'm sure. I'm appalled to see even ANY negative reviews. This place is truly helpful, and they care about helping you see for the best price. If you don't like them.. You should head down the road to Cohen's and see what they'll do to you. Extremely rude and untrustworthy!!! Before getting to Maz Optical in Holbrook I went online to understand my co payment from my Health provider, some information was clear some confusing, that is why I ask them to give me an estimate of my co payment. I knew exactly how much the co payment would be for Varilux lenses, they told me a higher price than what was listed under my insurance plan. When I told them that is more than officially listed, they said that the price was for the Varilux Premium, obviously they try to up sale me, then the woman which seems to be the owner asked me why I wasted her time with questions when I know already the co payment? I just could not believe her rudeness! When I calmly respond that I should probably go somewhere else, she reply, MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO, GOOD BY! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! One of the most unprofessional places I have ever been to! I'm not one to write bad reviews on people or products but this pushed my limits. Here is my review. I recently went into Maz Optical to get a new pair of lenses. After ordering my lenses I was called back 2 weeks later to get them installed into my old frames. Upon arrival, the store was packed. As I waited my turn, a woman store manager was arguing with an older gentleman (about 75 to 85). All he wanted was to price up a different pair of glasses to see if they would be cheaper for him (he wasn't being mean or nasty at all). AS she got frustrated, she kept saying "uhhh I'm not dealing with this right now" and that "The order is already in and that she couldn't redo the order." All of this was done in a room full of people that heard everything. You could see how uncomfortable everyone was. A woman with 2 kids and another woman with a child actually got up and left. Finally, it is my turn. They take my glasses and accidentally crack one of the lenses. Understanding human error, I said that it would be fine if they order a new lens and I would just come back another time. The following day, I called them to ask if they ordered my lens yet. They replied "no not yet" so I asked if I could get the extra scratch resistant film put on my lens and I would pay the difference. The receptionist told me that, that I would have to talk to the manager / owner. When the owner got on the phone I realized it was the same woman who was nasty to the older man. I asked her about paying the difference for the scratch resistant lens and she wanted me to pay $90 for the scratch resistant and $20 to edit the order that wasn't even placed yet. I told her that I felt that it was unfair to charge for an order that wasn't placed yet, she had some not so nice things to say to me and I told her that if she was going to talk to me like that then I was going to hang up. She replied "then I believe our conversation is done." I'm not one to write bad reviews on people or products but this woman's attitude and demeanor is trashy and appalling. She clearly does not care about her customers at all. Well I'm glad business is so good for you, because you lost not only me and my family as customers, but also a decent amount of people when you were very unprofessional to the older man. P.S. Maz Optical never even ordered my lens (without the extra scratch proof) to fix the crack that they made and it is almost 4 weeks later. I'm so disgusted with this place that I don't even care if I spend more money on new lenses somewhere else. This place is horrible! read more

I recently had an eye exam and purchased a pair of glasses. The doctor did a very thorough examination and the glasses were reasonably priced and very nice. The staff is awesome. The other optical places in the area were very pushy and tried to upsell me to "progressive" lenses. MAZ Optical did not do that. I am only sorry I didn't go to MAZ Optical sooner! read more
