My only regret is not coming to Custom Eyes Optical sooner. Dr. Dan is great. He explained everything to both me and my daughter, our prescriptions were just right. I needed to change locations because after going to my usual eye doctor for years, even though I really liked the Dr. I never found that they had any new or different glasses to choose from. I checked out the Yelp reviews to help me find my new go to and they were true to the reviews. This place had a large selection to choose from and the staff was professional and pleasant. The one literally bust out laughing at my choice. Not a fan of being ridiculed. Went here today on a whim after the recommendation of my partner who got her frames here. I've probably visited roughly 12 different eyeglass stores in 5 states within the past several months and still hadn't made a decision... Whether i was either not 100% satisfied with the frames or total price, I hadn't yet made a purchase until today. While the store isn't huge by any stretch of the imagination, the selection is definitely decent and the guys behind the counter are not hesitant in having you try various frames. Unlike other stores, they won't lie to you and tell you that you look great in every pair... They're honest and want you to feel good in and like your pair. Also they're not pushy peddlers, they know when to back off and give you space. I found 2 frames, one as a primary everyday and every situation pair of glasses and also a frame for prescription sunglasses. I was happy with the frames and quoted price. The eye exam here is typically $60. Luckily, it was included in the package that was worked out for me. I wasn't a huge fan of Neil/Neal, the optometrist. I had basic questions about my vision.. Like what changed compared to my current prescription and what is a stigmatism.. And he simply stated that it was difficult to explain and that he didn't have enough time to do so. "Bedside manner" for him was horrible. I also felt like he was getting frustrated with me during my exam. It was our first time meeting and I'm a bubbly person, I feel like you're doing something personal with me looking at my eyes and helping determine how I'll see the world for the next few years.. You gotta talk to me and make me comfortable.. Ease me into the exam. I haven't had an eye exam or visited an optometrist in over 5-6 years. So this is where I removed a star. Neil work on that and maybe next time I can update my review. Thankfully, Robert explained what a stigmatism is in lay men's terms.. However I felt it was odd because I've never been diagnosed with one before in either eye and Neal wrote on the prescription that I have one in both eyes. I dealt with Robert and John behind the counter. On my regular pair it was an Ogi brand and I'll be getting polycarbonate lenses with anti glare and scratch resistant /anti scratch. The sunglasses will be 70% dark prescription. I'm not sure what the warranty will be- wish they would have explained that. However from what I know of our kids who've gotten theirs there and from my partner's students, any issues visit the store and they'll do the repairs free or of little charge depending upon the problem. I was able to put $50 down and will pay the rest when the glasses are ready for pickup. I like that the store is independent and local, not part of a large chain. My son had (once again) broken the frame on his glasses. This was Saturday afternoon right after Thanksgiving. We pulled into the shopping center at 4:02 pm, not realizing they actually closed at 4. As we drove past, the owner was just locking up, he saw us looking and waved us over. He took a quick look at my sobs glasses and told us he could fix them. He reopened the store and replaced the frame and only charged us $20. Absolutely great customer service as only a local store can provide! read more

Got my contacts through here, which I was very nervous to do in the first place. The gentleman (I don't remember his name sadly) sat with me for a half hour teaching me how to get them in and out and being so sweet even though I kept messing up. Accompanied my dad here for an appointment and was HORRIFIED by how the optometrist treated us. The person we saw, Daniel Fischman, has to be the most rude and hostile medical professional (or person in general) I have ever interacted with. I asked him for better characterization of my dads cataracts (ie: where in the lens are they, what shape, etc) because I find grading schemes to be objective and not always useful (ESPECIALLY if the person grading doesn't know what they are talking about which I believe is the case here). He started shouting at me as if I was stupid and CLEARLY was not able to fully characterize my dads cataracts and instead of just telling me that he didn't know he literally yelled at me in the middle of the store. It's one thing to be rude, but don't be rude AND incompetent. The girl at the front desk was pretty nice, though. Their selection of glasses is also pretty abysmal. I would say the only good thing about this place is the proximity to Strathmore bagel. read more

What a great experience I had here at Custom Eyes. John was incredibly patient. He found frames to fit my small face and helped me explore different frame options from what I was used to. I am so happy to have found this place with such a friendly staff. Dr. Dan was also very friendly when giving my eye exam. He takes a lot of pride in what he does. The woman working the front of store on a Friday afternoon would benefit from warmer customer service skills. Very cold impression with a "we don't need your business" type attitude. She offered to make an appointment but was not helpful around availability fielding questions. (For example: "what days are best for you?, "Are mornings afternoons or evenings better?" Etc). I'm a sales rep myself and was very underwhelmed with the experience here. I chose to not take the appointment and go elsewhere. Clean store, cute selections, poor service. read more

I've never been to an eye doctor who went so far above and beyond! I had just had an eye exam a few months ago where the eye doctor drastically changed my RX. It left me a little disoriented, getting headaches and definitely just not seeing as well as I used to. I tried to go back to the original eye doctor but - bang - COVID 19 happens and everything closes. I went here to try on frames. When asked if I also needed to see the eye doctor, I said that I would eventually, but I was just interested in trying on frames today and obviously if I found a frame, I would see their doctor. They didn't even have an appointment available today and I was already in the store ready to try on frames. They could have had my business, but I was told "we have to sanitize the glasses, so if you don't make an appointment that makes things a little tricky." Tricky? Sounds more like lazy. There was only one other person in the store and they were being helped by another person. My experience at all eyeglass places has been that you try on glasses and then make the appointment. I understand that things are different now because of COVID, but letting people trying on glasses and sanitizing them seems like a basic protocol and not "tricky" in any way. I ran out of contacts yesterday and I am going on vacation this Friday. I do not have vision insurance so I was looking for a good deal for a contact lens eye exam on Groupon. I stumbled across Custom Eyes and gave them a call. They were one of the only companies that was willing to work with me on the Groupon due to the fact that I have an astigmatism. (Most other companies would not honor the Groupon at all if you have an astigmatism) I called this afternoon and they were able to see me the same day. I got there and was in and out in about 30 minutes. The associates were all very friendly and I was able to wear one pair of contacts home today. They also ordered the contacts and will have them most likely by Thursday so I will be able to bring some back ups with me on my vacation as well. I was very pleased with their service and would definitely recommend them to all of my friends! :) read more

I would absolutely recommend using Custom Eyes. As soon as I walked in I felt comfortable. The gentleman who helped me, John, was professional and very sweet. The Dr who gave me my exam was thorough and very knowledgeable. At no time did I feel rushed and my glasses were 100% free with the Groupon. I didn't have to put any money out of pocket and John was very understanding of my financial situation and was not worried about pushing the up-sell. He just wanted to make sure that I got the glasses I liked. The turn around time for picking up your glasses is only a couple days which is very nice. read more

The doctor did a great job evaluating my vision and my son's vision. John and Brad were extremely helpful with me when it came time to choose frames. They were so funny and spent a lot of time with me. I never felt rushed. As a result I gave my favorite pair of glasses ever. John was also extremely helpful when I needed to get contacts ( sent me home with 3 different brands at one point) and when my glasses broke he fixed them free of charge. Extremely rude and awful service. I typically go to Lenscrafters, but a coworker of mine recommended that I check this place out. I went in today as a potential paying customer, and a middle aged bald man with glasses, proceeded to belittle me because he was under the snobbish assumption that I could not afford their glasses. Instead of helping me, he asked me what insurance I had, a rude and intrusive question to ask a customer in the first place unwarranted. He then told me that only a certain "kind" of person could afford the type of glasses I was looking at, therefore assuming that I wouldn't be able to afford it. I sincerely regret not speaking up to this person at the time. Leaving this review I'm sure won't do much, and words directly in person would have had a better impact. I've never been treated this horribly before in any store in my life. People like this should not be in customer service if they are at this level of bias and have the audacity to voice their snide, offensive, and overtly presumptuous comments to potential paying customers. I went here for a contact lens exam after looking on Groupon and pricing out all of the vision stores in the area. Because I have astigmatism, the Groupons typically only cover the exam (not contacts) at ALL of the places I called. This place was the best price so I took the risk and I am so happy I did. The doctor Neil Kremberg OD made the experience an ideal appointment. He did not go very fast with the "1 or 2, 1 or 2 which one is better routine." He took his time and really allowed me to answer without pressure and was diligent to remind me that there was no pressure to rush or not blink. I felt comfortable. The guys at the front were nice and not pushy regarding buying the contacts there as I was buying them online. When he gave me a free pair of contacts to try on and have, he checked my vision again and it was 20/10 sooooo... I'd say the exam was precise! I appreciate the time made for a new patient. I will return again when I need another exam. read more

Not happy with this place. I called them in the morning because one of my eyes was red from my contact lenses and while they told me it's better to see an opthamologist, I should still come in and they'll see if they can do anything. When I got there, the man at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, but when he went to go get the doctor to see me, I heard the doctor say "I'll go get rid of her." He then came out and told me to go see a medical doctor. I understand that it's better to see a medical doctor, but why was I told to go there in the first place? There's no need to be rude about it. Worst experience we ever had. All we needed was my husbands glasses read and his lenses duplicated with new frames (which we've done a million times with other people and no problems). Instead John who I initially spoke with on the phone said my husband HAD to come in for an exam and that he wouldn't just read his lenses (even though one was just done 4 months ago and we were told he had no changes). We agreed only because this was the closest place to home that his insurance would cover and we just needed to get this done because my husbands current glasses are in such disrepair. We get there yesterday on our appointment day, and while waiting our turn we asked the girl behind the counter if she could show us which case the frames were in, that his insurance would cover, so we could start looking for frames. She told is to "give her a minute" like we were bothering her. We waited between 5 and 10 mins and asked her again, as she wasn't busy with anyone else but us at the time. Again she seemed to want to avoid showing us and with kind of a snippy attitude she said give her a minute again. But by now the eye Dr is calling him in the back for his exam. As we walk back to the room my husband goes in and as I'm right behind him following, the guy practically closed the door right on my face. I smiled and said hi and tried to proceed to follow my husband when the guy throws himself in front of me blocking me and states "he's a big boy he's old enough to do this by himself". My reaction was "oh, excuse me". I've never not been allowed in a room with my husband when going to any Dr and vise versa. My husband was immediately ticked off that this guy was so nasty and disrespectful for no reason he told the guy "that was kind of messed up and unnecessary". The guy came back with a snotty remark like "well where was she going to sit" and my husband just got up walked out and said lets go. Then we go 20 mins to another town to a place in Shirely called 20/20 Optical that the insurance covered, and it's like night and day. The people were so nice and accommodating and even just read his lenses with the machine with no problem no exam needed and reordered new glasses for him on the spot. Needless to say we will never do business with Custom Eyes again nor recommend them to anyone, and they lost money not only from what our insurance would have paid, but we added a lot of upgrades to his glasses for an extra $200. The people at Custom Eyes were so rude and disrespectful for no reason I don't understand it. But if that's the way they continue to do business it won't be there much longer or forever. I had my own business and was NEVER rude to people like that it's unprofessional and uncalled for. read more
