I highly recommend going somewhere else. This place is unwelcoming, judgmental, and the upcharges are outrageous. I just spent over $1,000 on what should have been a simple yearly check-up. I usually go elsewhere, but this place was covered by my insurance--only for me to end up paying $700 for lenses I was quoted $250 for, and another $600 for contacts. The environment is unprofessional and rude. On Wednesdays, there's an older gentleman doctor who is excellent--he's efficient and respectful of your time. But on other days, the younger doctor is completely unprofessional. I waited over an hour and a half after my appointment while he stood around watching a patient try on glasses. He didn't introduce himself, was cold, and made the entire experience uncomfortable. If you want to feel uncomfortable, go here. If you want to feel valued--go somewhere else. read more

I really planned originally to be angry in this review. My glasses of less than a year had fallen apart... (Pin literally fell out of the hinge and the temple came apart) I was originally told I was going to have to pay $120 for frames because of missing parts, and it would be two weeks possibly to get my glasses back.. that sucks because my eyes are terrible!! My sales rep told me she'd talk to a manager and see what she could do. Later that evening I received a phonecall that they will cover my frame and that they were actively looking to find the ones I had and if not, they'd select something similar and to give them a day or two. One day later I have my glasses back and pretty awesome Ralph Lauren frames. Honestly, some of the best customer service I've been provided in a long time!! My experience here was absolutely terrible. Most of the staff was rude. When getting my glasses I didn't get ones I liked because I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. During my appointment I was also "asked" multiple times why I would not order contacts from them as well. I get mine at Costco and after explaining that multiple times, the staff didn't like my answer. They try to upsell you on everything they screwed up the insurance to where I was denied finally after 3 months and me calling a thousand times they fixed it . My appointment with at 12pm. I was 5mins early, after checking in and waiting 15mins for my exam I was then called to the back. Exam took all of 5mins, which then I was told to wait in the lobby. Upon my first entry there was two people ahead of me who was seen already or waiting for their turn at the counter. At this point I'm waiting and waiting, no one came to update me on why I had been waiting so long. 40 minutes goes by with me asking what was the status. Nothing said. There is no reason to visit an Cohen optical since they operate as separate locations and there is no cross policy to assist a customer when there is an issue even though it is stayed and implied on Cohen's website. I brought my 16 y/o nephew in for a contact lens check and new glasses. I was very impressed by Dr Weber and her staff. She took a lot time to thoroughly explain everything to both me and my nephew. And she also made a recommendation about different contacts that might be more comfortable for him and afford him clearer vision. Estelle (the optician) was very helpful in helping us select new frames and lenses, and helping us stay within the budget allowed by his plan. Eddie (the assistant) was very efficient and was very accommodating when we needed to change the appointment due to his school schedule. I went to Cohen's for years and I've only continued to go because of Dr. Weber but this year was different. There's a new woman working on the sales side, who made a huge difference in my experience there. She trained my child to put in contact lenses. It took a number of times because other employees gave my child such anxiety. Kim (the woman who trained my child was so patient and calm with my child. She took her time and made my child feel so comfortable by the third training it took my child less than 5 minutes to put the contacts in and take them out. What a wonderful experience, thanks to Kim. We will definitely be coming back and requesting Kim to assist my entire family with purchasing glasses and/or contacts. read more

We waited almost two hours to see a doctor, even with an appointment. I will say the doctor here is wonderful; so nice and informative. However the counter person who assists you with your glasses doesn't have great customer service skills. A bit callous, and doesn't care about the customers needs more than she cares about upselling so you end up with almost $1000 pair of glasses. I had to explain to my boyfriend what the difference in cost the frames would be against his insurance based on the color labels of the frames, where she just said "you're covered for black" and walked away. I visited Cohen after cataract surgery today to figure out how to manage my eyesight with only one eye corrected. Vanessa, was extremely helpful. Provided a great deal of information regarding what to expect post surgery, actually much more info than my medical team provided. I as able to get a clear lense put into my frames in a few hours so I could keep using my eyeglasses until the next eye is repaired. Do not go here. Just.plain.terrible. My sister waited for over an hour for a 3oclock appt. Spent 560$ after insurance for glasses we found online after for 300$. Even though a postcard was filled out for 100$ off and she brought the one she received in the mail, they did not apply it. She called the store on speaker so I could listen. She called to ask for the adjustment. He asked if she had the postcard. She said no. Josh said that it was only on the 2nd pair that a discount was applied. When picking out the glasses it was noticed that the script I was given and what they had on file seemed to be missing he had progressive lenses. Vanessa was terrific with the entire issue. Prepare yourself for a really bad review. My daughter got an exam and glasses here 2 years ago. I did not have a great experience as the woman that helped us was extremely rude and impatient with me. I figured maybe she was just having a bad day and 2 years later I decided to give them another try. . . My children's insurance was suppose to start working June 1st, so I called and asked if they accepted it. I was told that they do, but I have to come in for them to run it and check if it can be used just for the exam or for both the exam and glasses. I went in twice and there was an issue with my insurance, not their fault. The third time I went in they said my kids are eligible for exams, but would have to take my prescription elsewhere. That was fine with me because I could order them online. They made an appointment for the next day. Today, after 20 minutes of waiting for them to run my insurance again, they tell me I have a $20 co-pay per child and they can give me a discount on glasses. My heart drops, as I am a single mother of 4, and my children have Medicaid. They have a $0 co-pay for everything. I ask why I have a co-pay and the man asks a woman, who says they are out of network. So, I can go somewhere else and pay nothing, but this guy goes "well you are already here and it's only $20". . . I bite my tongue and leave. You know what $40 is to a single mother on Medicaid? For anyone who doesn't know, it's a lot. I felt like they were trying to take advantage of me and that they had 4 previous opportunities to tell me I would have a co-pay. Nobody that is on Medicaid has money to throw around. Nobody learns how to live off of the system by being advised to make bad financial decisions. These people are rude, inconsiderate, and need better training. read more

Stay away. I agree with the previous comment. Pricing makes no sense. Product is not delivered after requesting full payment due to special lens order. As a NYC Procurement Specialist I can confirm this vendor is shady and try's to push the defective product on customer. They are rude. The front desk is unprofessional laughing when I questioned the smughing and dust sticking to lens. I purchased the Crizal AR product. They should take customer service capacity building from the one young man in the estabishment who try's to help. I am going back to return my eyewear a second time so they fix the glasses I have only 3 days. BTW: I supposedly purchased glasses $1200 50%off $600 total payment. I posted this update to the incorrect Cohens. I do not see the post I placed almost two weeks ago. Was going to give an update and did not find it. Stay far away from this Cohens. I placed an order with Crizal lens (don't believe the expensive hype), transition, progressive, scratch resistant, etc. I supposedly got 50% off and paid $600. Took eyewear home, they smudged (crizal? Yea right!) to the point you could not see through them without cleaning. I was asked to give them a week. A week? What would that change. Next day dust stuck to the lens (Crizal ?). I took them back so the lens could be fixed. I don't recall the technicians name, but he doesn't care one bit if your glasses are right. Here's my update. They said they were sending them back out. I was called a week 1/2 later they were ready. My glasses where not retrieved from the draw glasses are placed when waiting to be picked up. Mine were retrieved from the back. Yes, the glasses are the same. The lens were never corrected. I WILL be getting them check. I am thinking of small claims court. read more

I have no idea what some of these reviews are referring to. It cannot be for the Cohen's Fashion Optical located inside the Gateway Plaza Shopping Center in Patchogue, NY. My family and most of my friends have been going there for over 10 years. I know for a fact that they carry and recommend the best technology in lenses. Most other opticals carry all the low end lenses and tell you it's the same thing. That is how they can sell their merchandise so cheap. When we purchase we are given the lens credentials from Essilor who makes the best lenses. And the doctor, her name is Carol Weber. All I can say is THE BEST without a doubt. I have friends that live in Brooklyn that will only see her. They also have a very experienced woman named Estelle, She knows about all the frames and lenses. I read the following reviews and I have to believe that those people are going to a different store than my family and I have been going to for the last 5 to 6 years. First let me say that the doctor, Carol, has always given me a more thorough eye exam than I have ever gotten elsewhere. Some issues came up during my latest I exam and she recommended that I go get my eyes checked out to see if it was anything to be concerned about. It's nothing that needs immediate attention but something to keep an eye on, no pun intended. Thank you for the peace of mind Carol! Second, Let me say that Estelle is on top of her game more than my entire benefits department at work. She can easily, with her 26 years experience, quote a price for my glasses that is dead on. I have called the benefits department in the past, just to keep her honest, and found that her knowledge of the different plans is outstanding. She is accurate with her pricing and deductibles. Last, but not least, is Jeff the optician. He is the epitome of customer service. He is absolutely not satisfied unless you are. He knows his product. He makes sure that delivery is prompt and on schedule. His staffs contacts me as soon as they arrive and inform me that I can come in at my convenience. He guarantees the product and service as though his own name is on it. He is a Professional. Don't mistake his mild manner as being inattentive, he is studying your eyes and glasses, he is a perfectionist! Also, People complain about the wait. I never experienced that here in this location.
