My wife and I were getting coffee and decided to stop in to browse. My wife is on a mission to get a funky pair of Burberry frames. A salesperson comes over and starts helping her with the various frames. They were able to find the pair she wanted online. Now, my wife turns her attention to me and says, look at these frames, I think they'd look nice on you. I try them on, sure enough, I look like a runway model. Sold! Now we need to upgrade our eyewear prescription. The person giving me the eye exam, I'm joking with her and we're making small talk. She's finished with the exam and I'm told my glasses should be ready in a few days. A few days pass and I get a call, my glasses are ready. I pick them up and the next day I wear them for the first time. I noticed the long distance was blurry? That night, I went back to the black hand of eyewear and I said check these glasses because my eyes are going batshit crazy. When I was there, the optometrist is working. He gives me a new eye exam and checks the prescription. He said the distance was increased? I guess that's what you get when you joke around with the eye examiner.. The problem was rectified, I just picked up my glasses with the correct lens. Now I can see like a hawk! No harm, no foul on the mistaken prescription. I do have to point out one thing, this place smells like there was a flood? Change the damn carpet, its mildewed!

The staff here is young , but they were friendly and professional ! The "zoom call doctor" was also kind and patient . (There is no doctor on duty in the building but they have it down right - no need to worry). I got my glasses (x's 2) and they are fine . The only thing that was annoying , is that they are bifocals and the lower portion that magnifies up close, is very small . You gotta REALLY tilt your head way UP to look at things in front of your face. SUMMERY : I suspect Wise Eyes & Lens Crafters are probably twice as expensive for the non-insured.

No problem there.

Factor in the cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses for astigmatism (that's an extra cost anywhere if you have this condition), and it's easy to rack up that bill. I found We Care for Eyes on Groupon, where they had a promo for $34 contact lens exam (astigmatism not inclusive), and $39 for an eyeglass exam with $200 toward prescription glasses. I had already purchased eyeglass frames, so I knew that I didn't need both. I called them, and spoke with Keira, who honored the Groupon price, less the $200 prescription promo. Again, I have astigmatism, and she stated that that would be an extra $40, which was still competitive compared to other places. She also volunteered to check if my health plan would cover the exams, even without me asking. I was a little skeptical about finding an optician through a promo, but it helped that they had a five-star review on Groupon, five stars on Google, and their Rego Park location also had five stars. Anyway, I made an appointment for last Saturday and was seen right away. Dr. Mezei was professional, friendly and had great bedside manners. Unlike other doctors, she took her time with the exam, didn't put any pressure on me to purchase my contacts through the practice, and gave me different samples to see which type I would be comfortable with most. A member of her staff, Stephanie, fitted me for my glasses. I was promised that both the samples and glasses should be in within a week. What I didn't expect was a phone call on Tuesday to let me know my contact lens samples were ready. Another thing I didn't expect was a phone call today to let me know that my glasses were also ready. This was a huge surprise, as I used to have to call eyewear stores to follow up with them, and they never had anything ready within a week or less.
