They just revamped this little market. They pruned the extra bits and added a deli counter. I will be honest I miss the soaps, knick nacks, and unique little things. But this is a vast improvement! The new sandwiches are amazing, and this place has everything you need for a tasty lunch. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich I was a bit apprehensive because it came with radishes and egg on it.... (Weird), but something inside me said "go for it!" I'm so happy I did. This was by far the BEST tuna salad sandwich I've ever had! And that says a lot because I love tuna, and have been eating it since I was too young to remember. I highly recommend the new and improved Maynard's. :-) read more

So, I've been going to Maynards since they first opened and have been many times. But tonight was first time I am reviewing. And it was a prefixe night for valentines day. It is so tough to judge a restaurant by a prefixe, for me anyway always disappointed... But maynards nailed it. Great service, the usual atmosphere that is unique, sophisticated yet laid back and relaxing.. Romantic and disarming. Love the urban feel at the train station. Which is tough to pull off in a fine dining environment. All the staff from front to back off house, sommelier and especially server were delightful, not only helpful but eager to help. Service was spot on end to end with good timing and number of check ins. Even the little things like making sure your wine glass is topped right before the entree hits the table. They didn't miss anything. You can tell it's a well trained staff that comes from top down. Very accommodating to my wife who has food allergies even on the prefixe. Definitely on short list for best in town. Only thing negative I will say is with so many new restaurants downtown, they are pricey compared to what else you can get. But they are still one of the top dogs. So maybe not an every night place but more special occasions or when a wholesaler is picking up the tab :-) read more

We sat on the patio on a Saturday night, and despite the noise of the train passing by, it was a fairly quiet atmosphere. Cocktails were good but everything took a little while to arrive. I ordered a pork chop that was awesome-- I highly recommend it! Huge portion and really delicious. Overall, Maynard's was good, but not super memorable. It would be a great pick for a more traditional crowd where there's something for everyone. read more

The new lunch counter space, located in the former store, rocks. The space is bright, hip and airy. The staff, friendly and accommodating. I am so happy this place exists downtown. I had the bahn mi sandwich with pork pate. Awesome. read more

5 stars for both the market and kitchen I have been to the kitchen 3 times. Great food, service, and is a perfect location for an intimate date. I went to the market for the first time yesterday and I think I will be going back weekly. I tired the Bahn Mi with seared ahi and I can't get enough. I tried this light, crisp, fresh, delicious sandwich for the first time yesterday and I am going back today to get another. The atmosphere is also super cool. read more

What a nice place. The wife had work in town and this was a great place to have a wonderful date night with her. Parking was easy but on weekend I could see where it could be difficult. They had a great wine tasting going on at the out door area of the market we choose the Kitchen for the dinner. I would have given them 5 stars because my sailor old fashion was exceptional but my steak was over cooked. They also sent out French fries with my steak which I had not ordered too maybe it was the waitress we had because the other waiter that help us had all sorts of good recommendations and was very fun to have waiting on us. Another place I would return to. Another note was if you are wanting to spend a little less they had an awesome looking happy hour menu too at the bar. read more

Everytime I come to visit Tucson I have to go to this fantastic restaurant!!! Breakfast, lunch or dinner every meal is great. I have to mention that their iced latte taste exactly if not better than Honolulu Coffee Company. I shouldn't be surprised when I've never had a bad meal. We ordered croissant sandwich with ham, Gruyere cheese and arugula. Heaven I tell you, just delicious. read more

Stopped in here for dinner with my family on a whim while visiting Tucson and we were astounded at how incredible the food was! Our waitress was very attentive and took the time to share with us how almost everything in the dishes are locally sourced. Each dish had truly amazing flavors and textures and nothing disappointed. I'm still dreaming about the short rib gnocchi. Servings aren't huge, we ordered quite a few to share and glad we did. Thank you to the chef and staff at Maynard's for a truly great dining experience! read more

Finally had a chance to check out Maynard's w/a friend & fellow Yelper! I wish I had stopped inside earlier, but now I know. :) Their happy hour is really reasonable--quality beers on tap for $4, wine at $5, and craft cocktails at $7. Lots to choose from on the HH food menu, too. My friend and I ordered the potato pizza, and it was delicious! (Reminded us a bit of the potato pizza at Reilly's downtown.) Plenty of outdoor seating, which is nice while the pleasant Tucson weather is here. I look forward to returning super soon to check out the market portion--looked like there were quite a few great things over that way as well! read more

Date night complete!!! I looked like a super hero thanks to the phenomenal food and services Maynard's provided! I had the NY strip and wife had the eggplant. Bothe were amazing however if your not a lilly liveres vegAn go with the steak! It was full of flavor while tender and covered in a sauce that gave A-1 a run for its money (I grew up poor!) it's "spency " but so worth it very penny! Come here and splurge! Maynards is a favorite for me and my boyfriend. We've only ever been to the market side, but we definitely want to try out the actual restaurant. Their breakfast options are fantastic and reasonably priced (especially the breakfast burrito: very filling and hearty for the price). They used to have this baked oats that was my favorite and then it stopped being on the menu which I'm so bummed about! But everything else on their menu is great. Pretty decent happy hour too! We did their board and bottle which had a great variety of cheeses, meats, fruits/nuts, and spreads! I think one of my favorite things about Maynards is just the ambience of the space. Inside is so bright and welcoming early in the morning for breakfast, but we always opt to sit outside in their back patio which is right next to the train tracks. They even have a little garden outside too! Love this place! read more

This is my third visit to Maynards. This is my first review of it. My first visit was good. My second visit was fair. This last time was terrible. We arrived on time for our reservation but had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Service was very slow and lousy. Martini was a half filled glass. Bread came after our salads. The Porkchop was fatty and small. My daughter had the duck - it was bloody rare and had to be sent back. Management did not even follow up on the problem. Overall a terrible experience. I am done with this place. read more

I just happened to be passing through Tucson while riding the train, and there is enough of a layover that you can hop into this restaurant and grab something to go. Instead of eating breakfast on the train, I went to Maynard's Market and opted for some avocado toast. Now avocado toast is something pretty simple, but I have to say the toast I had here was probably the best avocado toast I've ever had. Absolutely delicious, and a perfect light breakfast. If I was ever in the area again I would surely come back and try some of the other things on the menu! read more

We came here on a Friday night after work. We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to give us an outdoor table under a heated lamp. There was live music playing. We were a bit too close for comfort to the speakers, but the music was good, and the view of the mountains during the sunset was really nice. They have an insane wine menu with maybe 100 types, though only a few are offered by the glass. I had a great Riesling. We were starving so opted for their Poutine from the starters section. The duck confit was tasty and went well with the fries, I mean pommes frites. I had the Winter Vegetables dish and was very impressed. The presentation was creative with slices of butternut squash separating sections polenta in a layered-cake like manner. The mushrooms, cauliflower, and greens were absolutely delicious. The bf had the Cassoulet which was essentially the opposite of what I ordered and was a huge bowl of meat. He enjoyed his pork, sausage, lamb, and duck! Overall delicious meal and large portions! Happy Hour is from 4-6pm Monday through Saturday with appetizers, pizzettes, cocktails, wine and beer! read more

Wow, this place was delicious. I've been on a long train ride and it was really nice to be able to stop at the Tucson station and get some real yummy food. Tried the tasting menu. 7 tiny bite sized courses, left hungry despite paying over $120/pp. The food tasted good, but just didn't think each bite of food was delicious enough to warrant the price. Also, never fun to leave hungry after paying so much for a meal. read more

Really excellent. Dark, handsome setting (with tableside lighting to read the menu); extensive cocktail and wine menu; fine, fine food. Service was a bit slow to start but the waiter was apologetic. I had carrot soup and steak tartare; my husband, scallops and beet risotto. Piping hot apple galette was better than the lemon goat cheese cake (a bit heavy, but still good). Will dine here again. The next best part was the locomotives gliding by. We lucked out with this place. read more

Simply my favorite food in Tucson. I've had a number of dishes that have been good to great. The restaurant has nice ambience, although the staff can be a bit French for Tucson. Their Hudson Valley foie gras is the best appetizer I've had in Arizona. The steak tartare is also very good. I remember the mussels having a bit more butter than I like. They have bouillabaisse and cassoulet at times. They were both 5/5. Cassoulet can be shared. Their veal chop is another good dish to share as it is extremely marbled and delicious. Their grilled trout is good but not great. Their cheesecake is unremarkable. They used to have a panna cotta (or maybe it was some other gelatin-based dessert?) that was much better. read more

The ambience created at Manards is unique and the food is upscale French American. The ambience is created by interior that include custome light fixtures, heavy metallic railings, and even the zinc bar (with antibacterial properties for those of you who are germophobes). If you happened to sit at the bar, look down and you will see the train rails from Chicago. It is a nice touch as there will be a train go by next to you while you're dining. You can imagine yourself being carried away on a train to another fun town. Maynards is a restaurant built by personal passion by a neat couple, R & S. This is my default hangout for happy hour. Eddie is behind the bar and he is being a great bartender as always. The food is good. Happy Hour food includes burgers, pizza, tartar, and other fun food. I've had their schnitzel and dry aged steak and like them. The new manager Marissa is friendly and welcoming. Come say hello to Eddie and me. (On Yelp, Maynards include both the restaurant and the marketplace. They sit next to each other but are completely different and shouldn't be reviewed as a single entity. I'd categorize the marketplace as a nice local snack and coffee shop that serves sandwiches. Their soba noodle bowl is yum!) read more

We had a very good experience at Maynard's. I am wondering if Yelp might consider adding $ or $$. The menu Maynard's posted online had no prices. However we went there partly because reviews gave it $$ for price. When we arrived, the menu with prices was posted outside the door and it was not a $$ menu. This is understandable because Maynard's tries to tailor it's menu every day to ingredients available locally and responsibly. However the cheapest entree among the four entrees was $30. We each had a $30 entree, a small plate, and a beer. The food and service was excellent. The total was $115 before tip. read more

We had spent the day at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum with friends from Michigan. The weather was perfect for patio dining. We took them to Maynard's. We're not sure what was better the sandwiches or the huge cookies. Hubby and I chose the turkey and it was delicious. We split a peanut butter cookie but just had to order four more to take home. You're away from the sounds of downtown traffic, but get to enjoy the passing trains. Inside and outside dining. Highly recommend a stop for lunch or if you're craving a delicious sandwich for dinner. Then there are those cookies read more

They have a new chef. We've been there twice now since he started. The menu is pretentious, and the food is not good. All show. Last night we had short ribs that were all fat and no meat. It was served in a deep bowl that made it difficult to cut the food. It was accompanied by rings of squash rind. Not edible. Then there's the bar. If you want a gin drink, you're offered 4 or 5 brands you've never heard of. No premium drinks. That's it! We're done with Maynard's. read more

While this review is mostly for the yummiest vanilla latte I have had in my life so far, I came here for dinner a few years ago and remember it being very yummy and healthy. Despite being a few years ago it was memorable, but also maybe because it was the first time I ever had grilled cauliflower for dinner. Anyway- my husband and best friend and her husband went to downtown tucson for brunch at the cup cafe. The wait was a long 45 mins so we stepped over to Maynard's for a coffee for me and my bffs hubs since we're the only ones that drink coffee, well, unless it's as good as the lattes we ordered here. At first I was disappointed because I ordered an iced vanilla latte and the guy made it hot. I told him I ordered it iced and instead of fixing it, he looked at the receipt and said "it doesn't say iced here" which was annoying, but the flavor made up for it in the end. After one sip of my vanilla latte around the table, my friends husband had the barista add vanilla to his regular latte and soon enough our SOs that don't drink coffee had downed half of ours. Had we not been going to brunch right after, we would have gotten seconds! Next time we're in Tucson, we'll definitely be back for vanilla lattes (ordering a large for each of us) and we might even grab food here because it did smell delicious. read more

We have been here about 5 times now, and have enjoyed the food and outdoor atmosphere every time. The Udon with seared Ahi was my favorite, but after swiping one of my kid's Jr Sloppy Joe, I've got a new hot sandwich that is to die for. My 8 year old loves the Bahn Mi and claimed his "brain was bursting with flavor"...which typifies just about everything here. If you're downtown and need some good food with a great outside decor, check Maynard's out. The only downside is the service is sometimes longer than normal getting your food or coffee, and we've only had 1 time that they got my order wrong...but other than that it's been a great experience. read more

"Everything, but the duck!" This is what I will call this review. My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate his 43rd birthday tonight. This is how it went; Walked in and was greeted kindly by the host and I believe what was the manager. We were seated in "2 minutes" after our arrival for our reservation. We started with Seared Scallops and followed up by Mushroom Toast, which were both phenomenal! I would recommend the Scallops over Toast if you were to try just one! We ordered Seared Duck Breast and Pork Chop for our entrees. Pork Chop was AMAZING! Duck- lack luster and flavor. I typically LOVE duck, but this particular presentation was far from Star status. They kindly gave us dessert and coffee on the house. Creme Brûlée was super delicious, not too sweet, not too heavy, but good elements. Unfortunately, on Open Table I had left a note that it was Derek's Birthday. We didn't get any candles like I saw two other tables receive by us. Despite it all, I really like this concept, I like this menu, like I said, get anything, but the duck! read more

Great environment! We ate lunch here recently. My friend had a Reuben, and I took a bahn mi and a glass of wine. Both sandwiches were great, and they have an extensive wine selection. You must come here at least once for the ambience! We sat downstairs in the market restaurant area below the bar and the view out the wall of windows is gorgeous! The lovely garden has lemon trees and herbs, all of which are used in the food that is served. The fresh herbed butter that is served with sliced bread is divine - we are 2 plates full! The potatoes tartiflette are divine - potatoes au gratin served in their own mini cast iron skillet! The bistro salad with bacon and soft boiled egg was delicious. The staff is very helpful and it's fun to visit the market next store and see all the different things they have to offer. A definite recommend! read more

I'm not sure what to praise the most, the food, the service or the prices. Located via Yelp ( thx again ), this downtown eatery delivered in all aspects. Quick seating, an excellent wine recommendation and fast service all added to the experience. The food was excellent: great bread, mussels, roast chicken and absolutely the best French fries I have ever had. I was surprised by the check...I thought they'd left something off, but they didn't. We had brunch at the Kitchen. It took probably 20 minutes to first get served with iced waters. Brunch menu is limited. Got a large mimosa for $9. The steak and eggs were over cooked to our order. Last time I ate in Maynards Kitchen was a couple years ago under direction of a different chef and it was ok. Decided to give it another go last night. SO GLAD we did. It was wonderful. Sat at the bar for happy hour (which is a Great deal) and moved down into restaurant for dinner. Lamb, succulent perfection. Duck savory deliciousness, and whole trout was terrific. Even had room for dessert, baked stuffed pears......yum. Service fabulous. Thank you Linh! I go to the Market side pretty regularly for wine tastings and happy hour. Manny always takes care of me and the place is always humming. Cool vibe in either spot, and the patio is always great for a beer or glass of wine with a view. Market is laid back, casual, fun. Kitchen more upscale, quieter, urban vibe. Perfect date night! Great wines, great food, great views, awesome service. read more

I don't think I've ever had something from Maynard's that I didn't love; I don't think it's possible. Most recently I double-dated for dinner and had the chef's featured Hawaiian fish special-- it was so good! I love the strawberries and oysters with the dish as well. For dessert, we had the best creme brûlée I've ever had in Tucson and pretty comparable to what I had in Paris. Did I also mention it's a deeper dish so there's more to enjoy? read more

Was excited to take my girlfriend to Maynard's for dinner, we have had lunch several times. Unfortunately the male bartender was rude and dismissive. This review is long overdue but so well deserved that I couldn't wait any longer to write it! Last month during our staycation in Tucson we chose this restaurant for diner & it actually was more based on the write up that The NY Times gave them versus Yelp & we were so glad we did. It was a Saturday evening so first we chose to use Uber since we weren't sure of the parking situation especially it being a college town on a busy weekend & upon walking in the restaurant was actually quite large, the market was closed but we hope to visit that next time we're in town. Anyways we chose to sit on the patio which was so lovely because it was also a working train depot so you get the occasional train that passes by & since we had 8:30 reservations they were also setting up for the music entertainment. We started with a nice bottle of Merlot, then my hubby went with the 1/2 dozen oysters with zero complaints. I went with the puff pastry mushroom app which also had this delicious goat cheese, it was beyond amazing out of this world, so happy hubby doesn't care for mushrooms!! For the entrees my hubby went for his fave filet mignon with fries, so so moist the steak was just oozing juice. I myself went with the Bouillabaisse which was perfectly cooked & so nice & light, what a perfect entree to go with the mushroom app. For our desert we went with the flourless chocolate cake, all I can say is moist yet perfectly rich at the same time!! As we were finishing our lovely meal we had the pleasure of enjoying the entertainment that the dj provided, yes it's not a misprint!! If you love the old school back in the day 70's soul then you'd of been dancing in your seat as you were eating your meal also!! We can not wait until our next visit to Tucson because this will be our regular spot wherever we're in town!! read more
