A popular restaurant in DC that requires reservations far in advance. It's a little hard to find. One needs to walk down the alleyway and enter through a door on the right. Throughout the meal, the staff were incredibly kind and the food was flavorful and filling. While the Tawle menu for $75 per person is probably the way to go rather than ordering à la carte, there are some great menu items that aren't on the Tawle menu. I really enjoyed the Cara Cara Orange Salad. Their ribeye was delicious, perfectly seasoned and melt in your mouth. Their hummus and dips are incredible, although the bread does cool down rather quickly. I was a little disappointed by the drinks as they were on the pricier side, but the food is well-worth it. Pros: I love Michelin Starred restaurants that aren't exclusively tasting menus. Let me order Starred food a la cart if I want to. The atmosphere was unlike anything I have ever seen. It was like when you see those warehouse parties on TV, but with a lot more fire. Excellent service. The food kept coming and coming and the drinks were flowing all night long. I loved their Tawle menu. Basically a tasting menu, basically buying in bulk, but it was really delicious, a good tour of the cuisine. Cons: I couldn't think of one if you paid me. Tips: Get the Tawle menu. It sounds like a lot of food, but it's an ok amount. Always ask for more bread. They'll bring it. Save the first round of dips for the rest of the meal. This was such an experience for people interested in trying I would recommend going with the tawle experience for a little taste of everything. Highlights include the grilled veggies, ribeye and the dips and crudités. The wood fire grill on the first floor is such a trip and you can really taste it on the char from the veggies and meats. I split the tawle between me and a friend and the left overs lasted for another lunch and dinner for her. Recommend scouring the day before for last minute availability for reservations. I highly recommend the Halloumi, literally all of the spreads and items "from the kitchen", the roasted carrots, and the Branzino - easily top 3 Branzino of a lifetime. The ambience is perfect for a date night, girl's night, birthday, or just some delicious food with good vibes. Some of the food is on the oily side but flavors were plentiful and diverse. It feels like this restaurant tries to make MENA food exotic with zero background as to what food in these regions entail. How does a "high end" restaurant come out with tasty-looking dishes that taste like NOTHING? It's a disgrace to actual mena food. Oh.. my.. LAWD - what an incredible place! Came here for the first time for dinner. I've always heard about how hard it is to get a reservation so my two friends and I came by around 4:45pm before they opened at 5pm and were able to get seated at the bar. Dorothy & EK (or it might have been "TK", apologies - it could be a bit hard to hear on my end) were amazing from start to finish. They took great care of us and were attentive to our every need. We got the table menu that was $85 a person and it was well worth it. We ended up going home with so much leftovers despite eating an absurd amount and each dish was delicious. Might be the best meal I've had in my life. Most high end places are skimpy on portions, this place is not and you will highly likely leave with leftovers. Multiple courses all of which are delicious. Best lamb I've ever had, just melted in your mouth, and the ribeye is delicious. The place is really cool too and you can sit next to where they make the naan with the large ovens where it's busy and alive or more personable upstairs if you care about those sort of things. My husband and I tried Maydan for the first time for Valentine's Day and I cannot wait to go back. Upon entering we were greeted by two friendly hostesses and seated promptly. We had the Valentine's Day menu food and wine pairing. Everything was 5/5 from food to service and staff just perfect! However the highlight of my night was the ribeye steak with green peppercorn sauce (I dream of this!) and the labne pavlova with strawberry and rhubarb coulis such a perfect pairing. We had an absolutely incredible Tawle experience at Maydan while celebrating our anniversary! We made our reservation a month in advance, only to realize it was for outdoor seating. Thankfully the service here was outstanding and they were able to seat us indoors upstairs. The ambiance, decor and atmosphere here is stunning. I have a nut allergy and our servers were so attentive and were able to tailor the Tawle experience and put the nuts on the side. We chose the ribeye as our center plate option which was delicious! The honey halloumi was my favorite component of the meal. The gin basil cocktail was refreshing while the Za'atar martini was stiff with incredibly tasty shanklish stuffed olives. (Probably the best olives I've had in a dirty martini!) We've been dying to try Maydan for over a year and the experience lived up to its reputation. When I planned my trip to D.C., I was excited to explore many of the Michelin recognized restaurants in the area. Maydan was recommended to me specifically for the value of the Tawle experience ($75/person), and I marked my calendar and set an alarm to book my reservation (reservations sold out in less than 10 mins., especially for the popular times and indoor seating!). They do reserve bar seats for walk-ins each night, but you have to arrive early to snag one. Maydan is a culinary journey into Middle Eastern cuisine. A beautifully paced, up to 2 hour experience with 4 courses - From the Kitchen, From the Fire, Center Plate, and Dessert - that leave your tastebuds buzzing and your stomach full and happy. A very filling meal in a warm and earthy restaurant, we had great service and were presented with each course in a well thought out way. You start off with some complimentary mint green tea and the option to order any additional drinks. We opted for sparkling water and the TÖST Rosé, which was a non-alcoholic sparkling bev with white tea, ginger, and elderberry. Crisp and refreshing! From the Kitchen: An assortment of hummus dips - dill cucumber with lemon, classic tahini, and a bright red pepper curry flavor - with warm bread, pickled vegetables and herbs, fava bean salad, and lentils tossed with couscous. From the Fire: Grilled chicken, halloumi, and asparagus. Center Plate: We opted for the ribeye, medium rare. You also have a variety of condiments or dipping sauces - toum: garlic, oil, and lemon; chermoula: lemon, garlic, parsley, saffron; tahina: sesame, lemon, olive oil; and harissa: red pepper, Serrano, and smoked paprika.
