This place is good and has good ribs and brisket, but sometimes the ribs are a miss for me - the quality definitely varies. Their fries are also good, but a bit heavy on the spices. We waited in the small cozy dining area for our feast to be served. A few minutes later and we were in Texas-smoked hog heaven! Now the extended version of my review- I loved the bbq sauce! It's spicy and tangy. Not thick and overly sweet like most Cali bbq houses. The pulled pork was whole chunky strips of perfectly smoked pork. It wasn't smothered in bbq sauce so you could enjoy the integrity of the meat. So smart! I actually love bbq sauce so I poured it over the meat. The ribs--- OMGosh! Absolutely THE BEST pork ribs I've ever had here in Cali. Fall of the bone tender with tons of juicy meat to fill you up. The crust is so perfectly toasty and tasty that I didn't even need more sauce. The brisket chili was more like a soup with tons of delicious chunks of brisket in it. Not exactly what I call chili but I loved it. I don't think there were any beans in it. But I still ate it up. The sides were really good too. Maybell's BBQ was hands down the best BBQ I've ever head! Meat was falling off the bone! Nestled in a little shopping center across from Murietta Hot Springs in Temecula, CA. It was our first time and the owner was helpful and recommended we take the family tray which has a sample of everything with two large sides. You can also get a side of Texas toast and pickles which felt just like you were in Texas! I was just about to ask for a knife...but as I stuck my fork in one of the ribs the meat just separated from the rib bone. Same thing with the brisket which just pulled apart. Out of this world! Sides were brisket beans, potato salad and we added Mac and cheese. All meat was delicious and exactly what I was craving and the slow smoked taste and smell is perfect. My wife is always critical of potato salad and this was a hit. Mac and cheese was fire! Even the brisket beans were awesome. The service was amazing as well. Very nice and attentive. I've lived in Murrieta over 30 years and enjoy local restaurants and have found my new favorite bbq food established. my hubby and I tried their food and a couple other local BBQ restaurants and their food at Maybells bbq was by far the best. There wasn't too many places open today because it's New years but I passed by Maybells and the BBQ smell is what lured me in. all the meats were extremely tender with an amazing smoky flavor. Sign on door says open until they sell out so probably a good idea to call ahead of time if you want something specific, they were out of ribs and sausage when we went but we got the brisket sandwich and plate and it was incredible both ways. Having never been here before, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm so surprised the restaurant was empty, maybe it was the time of day I was there, around 3:30. The owner is very nice and answered all of my questions about pricing and menu options. I ordered 1/2 rack baby back ribs, bbq brisket beans and mac n cheese. The ribs were the meatiest I've ever had and altho it comes with a side of bbq sauce, I didn't use much as I didn't want to change the flavor of those life changing ribs! Absolutely the best! Chefs kiss! The beans were another slamming hit! Next time I'll get the large side of those. I was not a fan of the Mac n cheese and didn't eat but a few bites. It had an odd flavor like celery or something I couldn't identify but that will NOT change my mind about this place. I'm going to try the brisket next time and one of their sausages. The service here is pretty amazing, lady at the register knows her meat cuts and has great customer service. What isn't amazing is the food. Ordered 2meat plate and half rack of baby back ribs. Father in law threw his plate away as soon as he took the first bite of brisket. Ribs were okay, but you can definitely tell who they weren't made by (iykyk). The seasoning on the brisket, ribs, and chicken were all the same -- all you'll taste is pepper. The bread is a few cold slices fresh out of the bag (similar to wonder bread). At least she pulled out 4 pieces. Potato salad was okay too, super relish-y and tart. More than likely wouldn't return and would not recommend to people who love true bbq.
