Maya is a great spot for Mexican food on the upper east side! We ordered spicy guacamole to start which did not disappoint! The best part was that the chips were warm as if they were baked homemade. We then ate our entrees of fish taco and chicken fajitas. The fish tacos were nice and crispy and had great sauce to top off! The chicken fajita came out sizzling and also came with sour cream, guacamole, and a medium spiced sauce. We had two great margaritas as well with spicy salt around the rim. Maya is one of my favorite restaurants on the UES for modern Mexican food, cocktails & tequila! Raul and Adrian make the best margaritas, the Maya margarita is my favorite...it's made with tamarind and a spicy Chile piquin rim but their spicy margarita and the hibiscus is also delicious. The queso fundido w chorizo and chicken enchiladas and steak fajitas are amongst some of the dishes I love to have whenever I'm there. It's a nice space and seems like a fun place for large gatherings but it's not the place for dinner. It's loud, the portions are small, and the food was only OK. Looking for an amazing brunch spot? And endless food and bottomless drinks! Look no further! Seriously I had a ball of a time here on a Saturday. Came here with my husband and we both enjoyed the variety of mexican food to taste. I must say that they do have a 2hour seating for guests , just so that everyone has a chance to enjoy the food! When we got there it was starting to get filled with people, It can be a lot depending on where you sit and volume of the conversation. The food comes family style with enough for each person in your party, and they're small sizes but still good enough to fill you once you start making your way through the entire menu. My favourite was the maya salmon and barbacoa taco, the mimosas were great. Oh and the plantains as well were very sweet. The poached eggs were well done! Give it a try! Came here surprised to see that there were vegan options! Tried the chips and guac (mild, medium, and hot), the chayote squash tacos, and a mango margarita. The guac was yummy and the chips were slightly warm - would have been amazing with a sprinkle of salt and squeeze of lime!! The warmth of the chips makes me think they were made in house but the lack of seasoning makes me think otherwise. Paired with the guac though? Delicious. I loved the guac. There wasn't much of a difference in the spice levels though but I love how the guac had a mild medium and hot option because you never really see that for guac, It's usually for salsa, so I definitely appreciated that. The chayote square tacos were pretty bland and nothing really special so I had to ask for hot sauce and lemme tell you that hot sauce was hot! I LOVED IT. I definitely did not expect that heat after eating the guac that claimed to be hot. The hot sauce was thick, not too runny, and perfectly spicy! I wish I took some home haha I loved the heat- I definitely recommend asking for the hot sauce if you ever go here. The mango margarita was good! It tasted like straight up juice so that can be dangeroussss. It snuck up on me a couple sips in and I had to slow down hahahahah Overall I enjoyed the chips n guac, mango margarita, and hot sauce, the vegan chayote squash tacos were okay and on the bland side. But it's nice to know that this restaurant has vegan options in the first place so if you're ever here and get a vegan entree, make sure to ask for a side of their hot sauce! Overall rating would be 3.6/5 for me - good drinks and apps with a nice outdoor patio seating but lacked a bit of seasoning for me in the vegan department. The meat dishes smelled good though! Wow!! We came here for brunch and we all did the bottomless brunch deal which is $55 for unlimited food and drinks. So the bring out small selected plates and anything you like you can request more of. The brisket tacos were amazing as well as the Mexican street corn. By the time the last plate came we were all very stuffed. They also have great selected drinks including margaritas and mimosas. You have 90 minutes of bottomless which is plenty of time! Parking is complicated in this area but on sunday the chances of parking are better. They have bottomless drinks and small plates for brunch. That is super cool in my opinion. However keep in mind that the 2 hour bottomless starts at the reservation time, soooo u waste time arriving, getting seated and the time the waiter takes to come take orders and such, so we didn't start drinking for the 11 minutes.... soooo is not truly 2 hours. The decor is nice and rustic. Seems like they are running out of space tough. It is all very cramped . None the less nice tables and legit decor. As this is a all you can eat and drink, they just keep bringing small plates with menu items and you can ask for extra or repeats as you go. CORN ON THE COB-cant mess this one up, so good,with cheese yummm, u could not have enough of those. CHICKEN TAMAL- pretty good and not spicy, it is good to try but not an impressive item. VEGETABLE EMPANADA- thisbe is deep fried with vegetables stuffed in, the empanadas are pretty nice, with to eat an extra batch PLANTAINS- nice and sweet, they come with cilantro and sour cream on top, pretty amazing. CHICKEN ENCHILADA- The tomatillo sauce is legit! Spice to perfection but I wish they had cheese instead of the chicken. CHILAQUILES- with a pouched egg and red sauce, black beans, the perfect amount of spicy these were by far the best dish I had here. Pretty awesome. PORK TAQUITOS- this is the first time ever I could say I can feel and taste the SMOKE flavor in a piece of meat, they nailed it! I would just add some sour cream and this would be heaven. HUEVOS RANCHEROS- I was not really that impressed, it was kind of cold when it came to the table and the sauce was a bit bland. DESSERT- they provided a cute little platter of something I think it was French toasts with Nutella and banana as well as some pastries, that was a delicious finish. Give it up to these waitresses and waiters and the entire staff, I have no idea how they keep up with this brunch service that is plate by plate rather than a huge buffet, I also give it to the owners cause this style of service keeps their staff employed. I am very impressed. HOWEVER, overall this is a very busy and because if it, the food quality was a bit on the colder and blend side, the service was ok and I could understand that it would not be perfect as they were very busy, I wish they had more staff since their service style is very complex. Came for the all you can eat/drink brunch. It is a major hit on the UES, with many delicious Mexican bites and delectable drinks, all at a reasonable price. ($55). We ordered every drink and pretty much every food item on the brunch menu. The drinks are solid- my favorites were the Bloody Mary and the Maya Mimosa. For food, lots of great options, some have more of a sophisticated twist than others. Highlights for us: Charred Pumpkin Pepita Salsa- great spice and flavor, a wonderful chips and salsa. Lamb barbacoa tacos- can't go wrong Chilaquiles- I love chilaquiles and this was a great representation. Foods that we thought were "meh": Enfrijoladas- basically just an enchilada with black bean sauce on top and scrambled eggs inside, nothing exciting Mini waffles- probably the worst part of the brunch was this dessert- I wish they had a churro or flan situation instead. Overall good food at a good price for what you're getting, all of the food plates are good portions too, even though they are bottomless. Very quick with the food as well which is a plus. Went here for a girls brunch. The bottomless food and drinks is worth it. Carlos our waiter was amazing so kind and kept us refilled. The restaurant was a little loud but really nice on the inside. The Mexican Bloody Mary was good not overly tomatoey. I also really liked the maya mimosa. As for food- the squash tacos were really good I didn't really expect that. I really enjoyed the shrimp enchiladas although it was a little doughy. The chicken fajitas were good some pieces were dry but still delicious. The plantains threw me off when they came out with sour cream on them I scrapped off most of it and the little that was left on it did not ruin the taste it just made it a little creamier. My favor was the churros. I'm not a huge sweets person but they were soooo good i can't stop thinking about them. read more

Great food, great staff, great service! The food was absolutely delicious, the service was on point, and the ambience was on point with proper COVID precautions enforced. There was not a long wait at all for the food and i was seated without a reservation on a Friday night with zero wait time. They asked for vaccination card which i love, as a lot of restaurants have become lax with that. One of my biggest measures of good service is how often the server comes with water refills on tap water. They were on point here!!! Super friendly and professional service and refills on water and mango margs (not pictured here) were perfect. The steak was cooked to perfection (we asked for medium rare and it was actually medium rare) and the appetizers were delicious as well. It was some of the best calamari I've ever had. I go in, It's happy hour and the restaurant/bar is not packed at all. I have a seat and I go to order. I noticed that the happy hour menu is very limited. I ordered Chicken Nachos and a frozen mango margarita. I asked the waiter if I could switch the chicken for steak, but that was not allowed it was just only chicken offered at time. I was a little taken back by how limited the happy hour menu was, and I went on the website to see what their dinner menu look like. I have walked by this restaurant many times and it is always busy so figured I would try it out when I was looking for a dinner spot in the early evening. We were seated immediately because it was relatively early in the evening and service was great and quick. The margaritas here are insanely delicious, specifically the one with tamarind! The food was pretty good but I was kind of expecting a little bit more based on the pricing and the fact that the restaurant is always busy, portions felt a little small and it was good just not great. All in all I would definitely try again and would especially come for happy hour for margaritas. read more

We had reservations for 2pm and were seated quickly. The ambiance is very nice and they had a good music playing. The deal is $49 per person unlimited drinks and small plates. For small plates they have a variety of food which can be overwhelming but they brought out one of everything so that we can try it. We received many plates bacon , eggs. Empanadas, quesadilla, and salad. Some of us were waiting for salmon they said it was being made. After waiting for 30 minutes the Salmon still didn't come out so they brought out another batch of corn empanadas , sweet bread , quesadilla and enchiladas. We asked again for the salmon being that it was already 3:25pm almost an hour and half into the reservation they said it was coming out now. At that point I was already full from tasting all these things they have brought out but I really wanted the salmon. When they finally brought the first batch of salmon for our group of 11 they only brought out about 6 pieces so that was gone! Then 10-15 minutes later it's almost 4pm they brought two plates so I had about two pieces of the salmon and it was delicious!! It's probably the best thing on the brunch menu I wish I would of gotten that from the start being that I was so hungry I just ate all that corn and flour wheat Empanadas/ quesadilla and felt so bloated. The food overall was okay I wasn't a fan of the beef / shredded meat on the tacos and empanadas the chicken tacos were better but they were only brought out once. The unlimited drinks I don't think it was worth it the first batch we got was pretty good and strong after I felt they were watered down because I had about 3 margaritas 2 mimosa and I was nowhere near tipsy. The service was okay my group felt like we had to hunt down the waiter just so that she can come over and give us refills. Overall not my favorite brunch. read more

Stopped by here on a Tuesday afternoon to take advantage of the happy hour special. Plenty of seating inside, yet since it was a nice day, opted to take one of the three outdoor tables. Most of the items on the menu are still pretty pricey, but wasn't going to order much. Settled on the Traditional Margarita ($10) and the Guacamole w/Chips ($15). Margarita is served on the rocks with a salt-rimmed glass - nice strong flavor of tequila with a hint of spiciness. Guacamole comes out shortly after - chunky avocado mixture served alongside a large bowl of warm tortilla chips. I had asked for the spicy version but this tasted mild overall, though there were a couple pieces of jalapeno inside. During checkout I noticed that they had charged me $17 for the guacamole instead of the listed price of $15. Otherwise the service was quick, which is good if you're in a rush. Not sure if the price-point is worth coming back for. read more

Was excited to go here finally. Upon getting seated waited a solid 7-8 minutes before getting a menu or even acknowledged we were there, so had to wave a waiter down. We got placed in a huge circle table that clearly could fold down into a smaller square, but the waiter gave an attitude that it couldn't fold even though there were 6 other tables of that type that folded. All in all the service was pretty slow and unattentive to start.   The food was good, it's expensive for what it is, for the price I didn't find anything too special about it. The margaritas were really good however. The guac was solid too. Go fish tacos over the chicken, the chicken was not anything special in my opinion but the fish was awesome and perfectly cooked. Maya is a great restaurant in midtown. On Sunday, my old coworkers and I met up at Maya for Sunday brunch. I was able to find parking one block away and realized it is close by the 59th street bridge which is also a plus because I live in Queens. On Sunday, there is unlimited drinks and food. So my friend stated we should work our way from the top and work our way down. Lol The drinks were well blessed . The menu is short but that allows you to share and try more diverse meals. Absolutely LOVE brunch here, but they seem to have gotten a little more uptight. We used to come to brunch here all the time, always with a large party, because we love that the food and drinks just keep coming and it's all settled in the bottomless. This time we felt we had to ask for so much. We sat without food for some time and we had to keep asking for drinks. It was pretty disappointing especially because they're so strict about their time frame. They also used to being the pitcher and refill our drinks and now they clear your glass and you have to wait for a new drink. It's definitely an elevated addition to their service, but they kept miscounting and forgetting drinks. It was uncomfortable because they kept counting our glasses at the table like we were trying to get one over on them. All in all we like the food and the option for bottomless, but don't love the new changes in how they do the bottomless. The drinks were yummy but we had to keep waiting for them. Got a pitcher of spicy cucumber margs that was wonderful, great tang and they definitely have a house tajin-esque powder for the rim (my guess is citric acid, salt, chili powder). We didn't participate in the bottomless drinks but we did participate in the bottomless food. The waiters were kind of rude towards us and seemed very impatient when they were trying to explain the menu.
