First time but definitely not the last time we will be going to Max's. My husband is just as hard (if not more so lol) to please and he loved it too. Tons of choices for beer and pub style food. We started with the clam cakes and chowder and was pleased to find that from start to finish every piece of food came hot crispy and delicious. My new favorite burger joint. Next to DNB's this burger stop is in my top 5. The restaurant is clean, the bathrooms are immaculate and the food is top notch! And don't just have a burger. Be sure to get some wings too. Boneless or bone in, they're brined the night before so every bite is tender and juicy. Thanks Max's dad, for a great meal, excellent beer selection and good company. Just went last night to the new and improved Max's. I went with three other in my party and everyone had a different burger. Everyone loved the meal and the portions were really big. I had the Mexican burger which was delicious and I would definitely order it again. However there are so many choices that I want to try that I will wait on doing that. The burger with plenty of fries was under 10 bucks. The atmosphere was very relaxing and although it was full it wan't noisy at all. We have a great burger place in Dartmouth now!! read more

For a burger joint this is what I've been missing for a long time. The burger itself has a smoky taste to it, and it great to bite into. I had the sloppy, chili and cheese. Want a perfect combo, and they portion is correctly. Not too much chili and not too much cheese. Fantastic. My son of course had chicken fingers and fries. But this time the chicken fingers was real chicken and they made their own breading. What a good combo. The fries were also great. I had the sweet potato fries and they were good, not oily and flavorful. No more Five Guys for me! read more

This nondescript store front has a whole lot more than you would think in a great burger experience. Beyond pleasantly surprised. We all got combos which comes with fries and drinks. We all got burgers and we all agreed it was a great burger. Even though it is small inside the tables and chairs were nice but almost everyone seemed to be getting takeout. First time eating here yesterday, got fish n chips. I did not really care for the fish, but the french fries were o-k. Great customer service, I had no waiting time everything was ready in about 5 minutes. Maybe they are better known for their burgers, maybe I will try one one day. read more

I recently took a group of assisted living residents out to lunch. The restaurant we had planned on was short staffed that day and the wait was 45 minutes. I recalled a local telling me about Max's. I called and asked if I could bring in a party of 9. They said give them 10 minutes and sure, come on in. Perfect choice! Max's is not hectic or loud. Since my residents have varying stages of Alzheimer's Disease the environment was relaxing and welcoming. The food is delicious! Great hand formed burgers, above average buns and real french fries. What a change from chain restaurant offerings! The best part of our visit was how well we were treated. Max ( I think) Catered to us, didn't seem mind some spills and disruptions and chatted and joked with all. What a positive experience. You can't beat the combination of fabulous food, relaxing environment and warm welcoming staff! Five stars. I live in Rhode island, but will definitely be back with family and friends! read more

Wonderful food sold inexpensively and quickly. Order at the counter and one of the very friendly workers brings it to your table. Small, clean, independently owned. My favorite type of place. Great burgers with lots of choices, hot dogs, chicken wings or tenders. Wonderful home made French fries and onion rings. Had the clam cakes and they were great too. Great food and great service. I have been going to this establishment all throughout school and have never been disappointed. Each time I have gone the burgers have been juicy and had the perfect amount of toppings. Some places put too little toppings and some put too much, Max's puts enough where you get a solid portion, but not so much that half of it ends up on your plate. The people behind the counter are always super nice. Very polite and will bring your food directly to you as opposed to simply screaming your name and making you get up. Not that I would be against getting up to grab my food , it just adds a nice touch. You can also call your order in ahead of time which was helpful because over the summer I would go during my lunch break, I would call 5 to 10 minutes ahead of time and almost always had my food waiting for me when I got there(if it was not it was only a matter of minutes before I got it) Great place, definitely somewhere to become a regular. read more

This place is great. Wonderful family dining atmosphere. Great service, and quick, too. I think it's family owned and run, and they are very nice. Burger was not even big enough for the bun..or my friends, was over cooked and the waitress took forever to come for our drinks and get sed drinks.. Really just an over glorified burger joint.. must be a front for a drug operation cuz the food is crap. french fries tastes over cooked and the oil they used must of been dirty. I saw this place on Phantom Gourmet and decided to give it a shot. How could I not, it's located in the same town I call home, Dartmouth. I ordered the max burger and and a side of sweet potato fries. Total disappointment. Over-cooked, over- charred, tasted like I was biting into a piece of wood off the grill. This was nothing like Phantom Gourmet described. As for the fries, they were bad real bad - soggy, damp, and oily. The service was great, however, I did have to put my burger down to voice how terrible it is/was (not sure if I will finish). read more

I think that the burgers are the best a char broiled mouth watering tast cooked on a open grill its the best burger in town the quality of the meat is excellent i first went there with my mom and dad after the review from the phantom gourmet and we all agreed it was a great burger i then went again with my freind and again with my fiance and still the consistancy was the same a great meal relitivly at a cheap price i will go back again and again service is excelant and quick enough time to stop in and eat lunch weather on lunch break from work or in a rush the french fries are excellant too! i recomend it to anyone and i will go back for more. read more

I love this place!!! Like a clam-shack, burger joint but year round!!! Best part is that they have clam cakes (the Massachusetts kind, fried balls of dough flecked with clam bit), which one can otherwise only find during the summer near the beach! They also have wraps, burgers, seafood, etc. The only thing that sucks is they close early! 8 most days and 9 fri/sat. read more
