Was in Dartmouth for work and wanted to try something new. Ordered a Max Blue burger with fries. Was told 20 minutes, but my order was ready when I got there in 15. Super friendly hostess with a great sense of humor had me checked out quickly. Burger was perfectly cooked and served on excellent, artisan bread. The fries were fresh cut and CRISPY. Possibly the best fresh cut fries I've had. Very glad I stopped here and will definitely be back. read more

When you first walk in it's a modern family bar style restaurant. Perfect place with nice service to eat in Dartmouth. Their chicken basket along with the rest of their food was fantastic. My family was very pleased to go here. I can imagine going here for drinks after exams at UMASSD. read more

Cowboy burger was pretty tasty and the patties taste like they might be marinated with A1 sauce. Wings were surprisingly good too, though way too expensive. read more

Best burgers very good option to choose from their onion rings and fries are amazing too

This place is above anything I've had in the past few years, and I'm referencing customer service and food! The burgers are out of this world; everything fresh and made in house (burgers, seafood, fries). The owner and bartender went out of their way to accommodate any issue I had, made concessions and were great hosts. And absolute must stop if in Dartmouth or the surrounding areas! I read more

Burgers are always decadent here. Don't go if you're not hungry. The fries are so generous in portion that it's easy to split them with your mate. If you want a well made burger (always cooked nicely to your specification), you need to try this place. Parking can be right here but it's worth the effort read more

Yeah this location was awesome, just left and the crew tonight was real cool. My brother loved his food and so did his friend. I'm strictly a plant eater but I know for sure what it looks like when someone is enjoying their meal. I'm glad I got to be in such a welcoming environment with those guys running the show. great food great service great ambiance would recommend to anyone in the area looking to get something to eat or even just watch the game

We ordered the seafood plate that had a generous portion which was shared by the two of us. The only complaint was the fried shrimp was overdone...too dark and crisp and dried out shrimp. We could only taste the crunchy batter. Other than that it was great! Excellent staff! read more

Their chicken is really good quality but it is ruined because it is consistently too done on the outside. The outside is burnt while the inside is perfect. I hope someone from Max's actually reads this because I think the fryers are turned up a bit too high. If you turn them down a bit the outside will not burn. My son said the same thing about his fish and chips. read more

We frequent here monthly if not weekly & I think Max's deserve our honest rave. Best classic grilled burgers locally & trust me we've tried them all. Fresh cut fries (which is huge in my book & not always easy to come by) awesome rotating tap selection from local brewers, & the waitresses are so sweet & genuine. Taco Tuesday's are addicting with unique selections, perfectly battered fried seafood, food is always fresh & pretty flawless- never a complaint. Owners & staff are full of personality & checking in appropriately, very family oriented & a relaxed at home feel. We love catching a game here or just grubbing ! Atmosphere is modern & super clean, prices are appropriate & portions are very generous. Think I covered all the bases, my only complaint is this place may be the one reason I can't stay consistent to dieting! :) read more

Thursday's are for burgers! Especially when they are only $5! My first experience was great and I definitely will go back. The atmosphere is like a hang out spot you'd wanna go after work with your buddies. The waitstaff is super nice and make really good recommendations on beer. Now let's talk about their food. The sweet potato fries were out of this world and the burger was cooked to perfection. It was like home cooking but with more flavor. The only complaint I had was about the nachos, they were lacking compared to the burger. But definitely will go again and try other apps! read more

Took the family this evening to Maxs with great expectations after getting the family together. They had a few good beers on tap so I was cautiously optimistic that the dining experience would be great. Unfortunately, 40 minutes later the burgers came out like hockey pucks and the wait staff was completely unapologetic and rude. The food was absolutely terrible. To top it off they had no reservations in charging full freight for this awful food. I think the only way this place stays open is by serving this terrible stuff to the UMass Dartmouth students who don't know any better. We will never be back! read more

I decided to try Max's based on reviews. I ordered the seafood platter to go. I was very disappointed. My fish was small and dry. The scallops was over battered n dried out. The clams had been overcooked n shriveled. The french fries was greasy. Maybe the cook was having an off day or just very busy. But this mean definitely wasn't worth the cost paid. I don't think I'll be returning for seafood anytime soon. read more

A great restaurant to bring the whole family when you're looking for some quick comfort food or something to eat while you're watching the football game on tv. Hot dogs, terrific hamburgers (grilled to perfection), chicken baskets, chicken wings and even quesadillas. My personal favorite is their hamburgers with BBQ sauce and onion rings inside. Fairly decent prices, but you're paying for the good fast-food quality, between $4-8 usually. They even serve deep fried twinkies and oreos for dessert. I have yet to try these but it's on my list of things to try next. I was also impressed but the cleanliness of this restaurant. There's plenty of seating inside too if you decide to not take it home. read more

Max's has been one of the best burger joints in the area, but the burgers have been disappointing for our last couple of visits . No matter what meat temp you ask for, they were all cooked the same way: well done and burned. We'll be getting burgers elsewhere for a while and hopefully they'll get this straightened out. If you do go there I would suggest trying their boneless chicken strips instead, which are some of the best around. read more

Apparently, Tuesday is BYOB day for $3.99 with a purchase of medium drink. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Not sure what she wrote on the ticket. My burger did not have any bacon, ketchup or mayo that I ordered. The burger was dwarfed by the iceberg lettuce and raw onion. The burger was flat 8oz piece of meat with no taste. The hand cut fries were flavorless till I put salt & pepper. Sorry, I was disappointed with my first and only visit. read more

Love their cheese quesadilla!!!! And their shakes are delicious!!! Prices aren't too bad!!!! And their carnival dessert is amazing!!!

I don't give out many 5 star reviews but I think that Max's in Dartmouth MA is something that is special and deserves it. First of all let me say that I have been to Max's four times now and each time have walked away thinking "Wow, I'm going to bring one of my friends here tomorrow" but let me not get too ahead of myself and start from the beginning. Max's is a quaint little burger shack located on State St in Dartmouth (Right next to the famed "Gumbo's Chinese Restaurant". Max's is small inside but it has some nice window stools and a friendly atmosphere. Where Max's shines is their food seconded only by their hospitality. Now, if you have read any of my reviews in the past you will see that passion goes a long way with me. It is always about the little things, the details. Things that other places overlook, and Max's has passion in spades. Their burgers are flame broiled to perfection, while staying juicy and flavorful along the way. The size of their burgers is very impressive, especially for the price that they are charging for these things. There is no doubt about it, for about a buck more than you would pay at one of those "fast food" places you can have a burger that is personally made for you and is as fresh as you would hope for every time you visit. The owners of the business take great pride in their food, and they should. Burgers are masterfully crafted with different flavor combinations and served up to perfection. My favorite so far is definitely the Hawaiian burger which consists of a grilled piece of pineapple, bacon and bbq sauce. My second try of this burger I added jalepenos just to put some kick in there but, the saltiness of the grilled pineapple accompanies the burger and the bacon to add this amazing balance of flavors. The Sloppy Burger is a sight to behold... but NOTHING you could ever dream of picking up and eating. Imagine the best Chili Cheese dog you've ever had... now remove the hoddog and put a delicious all beef patty that has been grilled to perfection on a fresh hot sesame seed bun... Their potato skins are a completely different level of amazing. Filled with cream cheese, bacon and cheese and fried to a sinful golden deliciousness. Honestly, for the money I cannot think of a better meal you can find in this area. My wife and I got two enormous burgers and an order of those amazing potato skins and it came in well under $20... To say that this place is a MUST VISIT is an understatement and I hope everybody comes out to this wonderful local treasure and gives them a try. I'm fairly certain once you do you will find yourself gushing about this place as much as I have. read more

Best. Onion rings. Ever. This place was such a great surprise. Mostly meant for takeout, but it does have 5 tables & a counter. I got a handpacked burger that you could actually tell was handpacked. Juicy and tasty ( I think I detected a little A1 flavoring perhaps). Husband had a Portuguese burger which combines ground beef and ground linguica into a patty. He said it was great. The girls got steamed hot dogs, which one girl didn't eat and the other girl choked on. Unless you're getting coney or chili toppings, I'd probably try the grilled. The fries were great, hand cut and salty. And the onion rings. As mentioned, best ever. Really thin, lots of flavor. Addictive. They also serve ice cream, wings, fried seafood, and various apps, including the delightful-sounding fried pickles with chipotle ranch dipping sauce. Next time.... read more

Very good and filling, but also prices are somewhat high for a burger joint. This place has tons to choose from to keep any burger lover nice and happy and most importantly full. read more

I'm having a tough time here cause we (not realizing) arrived 15 mins prior to close at 8. Tom got a double burger which he enjoyed, Ben got 3 pc tenders with fries which he did'nt...the chicken being marinated and tasting odd to an 11 year old, And I got a "sloppy" burger with a side of onion rings. The burger was way overcooked, I tasted the char an hour later, and there was way too much chili sauce and chhese "sauce" as in nacho cheese sauce. Pick it up and finsh cause you only get one shot at this. Finally I was looking forward to the onion rings, clearly hand done strings hot and fresh but so salty I was relieved to have an excuse to toss so as not to keep the staff waiting. On the positive the staff was friendly and helpful, but for $35 couldn't make up for the food. read more

My husband and I decided to give this place a try after I saw it on phantom gourmet yesterday. The food looked great on tv, big surprise! They are home of the BAB (big ass burger food challenge). My husband and I got a burger he got the sloppy burger and I got the buffalo burger and we split the potato skins. After biting in to my burger I got a mouth full of charred burger, as if they haven't scraped the grill clean in a decade. I can't get the taste out of my mouth, I didn't finish it needless to say and as I type this I'm actually getting sick thinking about it. The potato skins weren't anything spectacular either, they're "stuffed" with sour cream cheese and bacon, way too much sour cream even for me and I love condiments. My husbands burger was just ok from what he said, he has no desire to return either. The chili and cheese they topped his burger with is the stuff you get out of a bag and it was just gross looking. Wasn't impressed. I could grill a burger better and I get paid a lot less for it. The girl who was taking our order was very nice and she brought our food out to us and made sure to ask how everything was and if we needed anything, upon walking in it was as if the men working the grill hadn't seen a person in a year, they just sat and stared like they were in awe lol. My one star will go to the girl who took our order! She was nice! read more

Here is an example of how ONE employee can ruin an experience at a restaurant. On Saturday, August 11, at 2:30pm, we arrived for lunch. We chose to sit at the bar. That was the problem. The bartender gave menus to everyone but us. I had to get up to get some. We got no Please, Thank You, Your Welcome...etc. yet everyone else was treated friendly by this guy. They were drinking. We were having Diet Coke. When he delivered the food, he had a look of disgust on his face. But when we left, leaving a $4 tip on a $15.78 bill (6 tenders, 2 sodas) he was the most vocal. "Thank You!" Their prices for chicken tenders are on the high side, especially if you want fries, (3 tenders and fries, $8.95, $5.95 without) but the tenders are very tasty. Frankly, Chicken Tenders alone, 5 stars. Add in Mr. Grumpy's attitude, No stars. But they are tasty. The rest of the staff? VERY friendly! Oh well. Max's expanded to include the laundromat that was next to it. It's in the same plaza as Gumbo. We left at 3pm, as did Mr. Grumpy. You win some, you lose some, and some get wizzed on by a miserable server. Melissa was made to feel VERY uncomfortable by this guy. Good luck. For the chicken tenders, go! read more

I've eaten here a few times but the last 2x we where just disappointed . Onion rings super greasy n the burgers which used to be my favorite part is now making me wanna puke just typing this ...it was so charred I've been burping it up all day. My stomach is so upset as well my fiance too. He's worse off then me he's been in the bathroom All day in pain I think something went wrong here... well sorry maxs no more business from us... Max's is a small take out with 4-5 tables and a counter with stools facing the window. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. The menu consists of Burgers, Dogs, and Wings. The Holy Trinity of take out. This was my first trip so I ordered the Coney dog steamed with onions and mustard. The onions were diced small the way they should be. The Coney sauce was good and the dog and bun were perfectly steamed. They also have an all beef grilled. What's better than choices? I also had a side of fresh hand cut onion rings. Lightly breaded and seasoned and cut very thin. They had a good onion taste and were not dried out or overcooked, and well salted which is important. I am looking forward to my next trip for the hand packed 1/2 lb cheeseburger or an order of their wings and possibly an ice cream frappe. read more

I have had food from this establishment 3 times now, and have waited to see if I got the same quality every time. I can tell you that indeed I did!!!!! Sunday my husband stopped in to get a couple of burgers (for friends) and a seafood plate for myself. He RAVED about the burger he had the Hawaiian and loved it! The seafood was FANTASTIC! the scallops were cooked perfectly along with the fish, clams and the shrimp (which were de-veined *awesome*!) the only sub-par thing in that meal was the fries... They didn't taste cooked all the way through, almost like there was too much in the fry basket. No big deal, too full with everything else to eat them. I am not a fan of coleslaw (unless it's KFC), so I did not care for that either. The potato skins were also good, full of butter, sour cream, cheese and bacon! they were so yummy and really hot even after taking them home to NB... Yesterday, we stopped in again since my husband was in love with his burger and I tried the Hawaiian and it was AMAZING!!!!!!! The combination of the pineapple, BBQ sauce and flame broiled burger was sooo good! There is bacon involved, but in all honestly everything drowns it out (so it may not be needed) I LOVE THIS BURGER! I also had curly fries with it and they too were fresh and crispy and well cooked! We stopped in again today for the same experience, and no different, everything was to PERFECTION! I find myself craving this burger now! The owners were there yesterday and today, both are super nice and welcoming!!! They know how to treat their customers. I will definitely be going in more often, I can't say enough good things!!! You can't get the quality of the burger here anywhere unless you want to drive to RI (Lux Burger & Crazy Burger) and the prices are OUTSTANDING! So please stop and and show some love!!!! read more

What a great find! Don't let the nondescript sign outside fool you. My daughter and I happened to go on the day when the special was $4 burgers with any toppings. So we gave them a try-they were fantastic! We like our burgers a little pink, and they were cooked perfectly. We also ordered a small order of curly fries to share-also very good. The portions of both the burgers and the fries were very generous. The waitress was very friendly. I usually don't write negative reviews but to be honest this place isn't worth all the hype. I ordered chicken tenders and fries, they were the greasiest things i have ever eaten. I first got them and they were extremely burned and dry on the inside so i then sent them back and had them replaced. This time they were undercooked, batter kept falling off and overly spicy for some reason. My grandmother had ordered a ceaser salad and got asked if she wanted ceased dressing for that...like obviously, that's what makes it a ceaser salad. On the bright side out waitress was very kind about everything and apologetic. There service is pretty fast, the food just isn't as expected. For a nice restaurant prices are pretty average. read more

Not sure how this has been off my radar since it's been open for 7 years! My husband and I got burgers with fries and onion rings. Definitely be back! Thursdays are $5 burgers, taco Tuesday and Wednesday 2 for $7 sliders. read more

Very disappointed. I was recommended by a friend to go there, unfortunately I was not impressed. Nachos were mediocre at best. I think I could have made something at home, that was just as good. Don't order the nachos. Burgers were average, and the food came out way too fast. I don't like to wait, but we had barely had the nachos and our meal came out. Won't return again.
