Craftsman ratchet bought at ACE froze. Website says take any defective wrenches to swap. Walked in & counter attendant asked what I needed rather dry. I explained & he said "we don't sell Craftsman, go to Home Depot!" . Never mind that I bought the set at ACE, perhaps something changed or this particular store doesn't have or doesn't like to honor warranties, or the attendants just don't appreciate their jobs or customers. I called Lowe's Covina & Edgar in Tools said "craftsman are guaranteed for life, bring it in & we'll swap it...but please give me the size & I'll make sure we have it in stock". 25 minutes later I walked out of Lowe's with a brand new replacement wrench. We're told to buy local and that ACE has better service than "big box stores". Unfortunately that is not true. I wish Max's Hardware only the best, but I will NEVER return to this store and will cancel my ACE discount/rewards card membership. read more

Leaving my review based solely on the horrid customer service. My family ordered a custom piece of glass, which ended up being four inches too short. I knew it was nonrefundable, but I politely called on behalf of my family to figure out where the miscommunication happened. The girls who picked up the phone were very nice and understanding. This review is not about them. They asked me to call back the next day to speak to the owner. Like I said, I was very polite, I wasn't mad, I just wanted to understand what happened. I figured it was possible that the mistake was on the shop's end and thought they would make amends for it if that was the case. I was not expecting a free new piece of glass or a refund. I just wanted to know what happened. After explaining the situation, the first words out of the owner's mouth were, "Listen carefully because I'm only going to say this one time..." He proceeded to scold me and insult my family for, according to him, providing him the wrong measurements. Then he repeated over and over that the order was nonrefundable. I said, I understand that. I just want to know what measurements were jotted down and whether there is a discrepancy between that and the actual numbers. He lost his mind. I knew it was a lost cause, so I just hung up. My family was considering reordering for the correct size, but his approach was absolutely horrible. Given the rest of the reviews, it seems like this is a common occurrence. This hardware store is affiliated with Ace Hardware and is packed with historical parts and tools you can't find at the warehouse or big box hardware stores. I was looking for a door stop to prevent the door hitting the kitchen counter, and was only able to find it here. Using the Yelp application, it lead me a roundabout way to get to the store that is on Santa Anita, but road construction and traffic does not allow you to turn in from the southbound side of the avenue. If ever I am fixing my home, I'll come here first for specific tools or parts that can't be found at the chain stores... read more

I went in Saturday evening and was greeted and attended by a young lady , mind you there was a man in his like 50-60s who I had no clue even worked there as he was so blunt and rarely even smiled or grind , I proceeded to ask the young lady for the bolts I needed and were looking for to mount my TV her service was amazing and she was very helpful and very attentive with helping me find what I wanted which were some bolts I needed to mount my tv on the wall, I was pleased with how fast and easy she was able to get me the bolts without any issue. She was also very nice and had no issue or problem in helping me which is always a plus because who wants to be treated bad. As of this I wanted to tip the lady $10 dollars and as I was going to pay I went ahead and proceeded to tip her when the boss or manager intervened and says " we are not allowed to take any tips, gifts, or anything from anyone and any money that is left will be go straight to the stores commission " which I think is crap to be honest that is my hard working money given to another hardworking person who deserves it , it should be the employee's decision to recieve or decline the tip or gift, & if received the STORE HAS NO RIGHT KEEPING IT its for THE EMPLOYEE . I would give this place zero stars if possible. Don't waist your time or money! Called before hand to see if they could cut plexiglass. The employee that answered said yes just bring the measurements. I drive 25 minutes and the owner or manager says they can't cut it because they're very busy. There is only one other customer in the store. The guy who said he would cut it is putting tags on merchandise! He then states that if I pay now he can cut it tomorrow. What??? read more

I walked into the store at 6:45 pm we were not acknowledged by the cashier and the clerk that were talking to each other, then when They finally notice they went ahead I said that they were close already and that I needed to come back the following day for the return that I had, when I inquired about where I the receipt said that they could not take returns the cashier Nathaniel said that after 6:30 pm they don't I asked once again where does it state on the receipt or at the store that they could not take returns, Nathaniel once again in a rudely way said come tomorrow when I asked for the name and number of the manager or the owner he said just call the number on the receipt. It's a small store and the options are limited but he helped me find what I needed and also help me identify what I needed to pick up at another store to complete my project. They sell used parts and represent them as new. When confronted, they lied about it. The manager is a liar, a thief, and barely sober at that. I bought a shower door there. When opened, it was damaged and there are parts missing. There is bright red piece of tape across the package. It was obviously returned. The screws were striped and integral parts missing. Parts that cannot be purchased separately. (But it's a discontinued part so I can't get it anymore). They gave me $10 off and refused to replace the missing parts or even open another box to see what they look like so I can try to find it. The shower door is damaged! Obviously I'm not alone in my discontent. I expected a 50% off discount considering the damage. I will call ACE Customer services and the manufacturer to report this. No stars if it was possible. WORST place ever. DO NOT COME HERE!!! I rather go to Home Depot. I bought my electrical wire there. This place was unorganized with no prices on most stuff. The cashier don't know there prices of the stuff there and about return policy. No refunds no exchanges. While I asked the cashier about it she already charged me and then said no refund. Was in desperate need of corner shower valve....walked into max's hardware store and asked the ace representative if they carried corner valves.....he escorted me over to a locked case,opened it and had one in stock....!! Poor service. Bought a nut and asked to borrow a wrench or pliers to put it on my friends wheel chair and the cashier said "we don't sell them here." Some that work here just do not enjoy their jobs and it shows as much of the merchandise is old, dusty, and over priced. The property value is too high at this location for this place to stay. I will drive past here and try Grant's next time or go the opposite way to Home Depot. I have been here a couple of times and will not return. I went to this hole-in-the-wall hardware store only because I needed four bolts and four nuts which retail for about $2.50 total. When I walked in the manager immediately sent somebody my way because I was out of work uniform wearing a hoodie, I guess they thought I was going to steal something. So I choose one bolt and one nut and I asked the person helping me if it was okay that I took it outside to measure it against the item I was going to use it on. He said it was fine and 30 seconds later he walked out and told me his manager said I would have to pay for it before I can test it..... I spoke to the manager directly and told him that that would be ridiculous for me to pay for it and return it if it didn't work and buy another one and if that one didn't work return it until I find the right match.... I came to the conclusion that they just thought I was going to steal... So I just left I'll take the trip to Home Depot .. The manager's name was Bob. Friendly the first time I went. They encouraged me to buy several sizes of flappers since I wasn't sure which would fit. They assured me I could return it, even if opened. Only thing as they pressured me to pay with cash bc otherwise I wouldn't be able to return it. Fast forward a week later and I went to return the unused and unopened ones. The owner gave me a hard time. First he made me wait for all his customers to finish their purchases even thought I was first in line. Then he asked someone to inspect the packages for tampering! Then he gave me a lecture about buying more than I could use. I should have just driven the extra mile to Home Depot for lower prices and better customer service! read more

Went inside to find a gas line for my new stove, but there was no one to help me out. There were about 2 other customers inside and no workers in sight. When I finally saw an employee, I simply asked him where are the stove gas lines. This male employee replied, "over there" and just pointed to one direction and walked away. No, "on aisle xxx" or "next row over", nothing but a point to one side and left. RUUUUDE. When I finally found it I saw the price and decided not to pay for the horrible rude service a smaller company should NOT have. If the employee were to be nice and walk me over or just simply acknowledge that I was there, then I would have paid for their pricing. But no way. Over a decade ago, I ordered a custom cut glass for my breakfast table here at a reasonably good price which was why I remembered to return when I needed a small (6.5" x 16+") mirror. I came into the store and cashier asked me to speak with Nacho. Nacho happened to to around the aisle with an elderly man who seemed to be the boss cause he was giving instructions to Nacho and took over the discussion about the mirror with me. I showed him the frame I wanted and told him I just needed straight cuts in the shape of a trapezoid (6.5" x 16+" x 15+") and I would resize my wood frame to fit the straight cuts. The bossman told me that he could not cut the shape of the frame I showed him without listening and belittling said he had been doing this for years and he knew best. After finally understanding the simplicity of my request, he demanded an outrageous $19.99 for this small mirror!!! Even Nacho who was standing beside the whole conversation was surprised and reminded his boss that "it was only a piece of mirror." The bossman brushed his worker aside and stood firm on his demand of this high price for a piece of small mirror with straight cuts. Guess it takes all kinds to price gouge over here with transcendental pricing that is out of this world! I immediately thanked the bossman for his purported "years of experience" and walked out. Displeased with the pricing for key copies. A big sign outside advertised as 99 cents for house key copy but charged me 3x as much for motorcycle keys and even brought in my own blank keys. My mistake for not asking about price first but was just expecting reasonable price. I grew up in this area for the last 25 years and had all my keys copied here. Even recommended all friends and relatives here to copy keys here until I have to copy motorcycle keys today. It's not that $3/key was expensive, it is deceptive since the pricing wasn't clearly posted and this place is a big mess. Never coming back again. All the warning signs posted in this place presume you're a potential criminal. This place is getting creepy. read more
