I have been going to Maxine's for a year. My stylist is Patricia Arredondo. My experience with Patty and Maxine's is one of the greatest experiences I have ever encountered in getting my hair cut/styled. I am a male and up until I met Patti and went to Maxine's I did not realize that you can actually be consulted on a hair style that suits your age, hair length, your profession and your desire. I have had for as long as i remember the same trim of my hair without any more thought at every salon I would go to. When I walked in to Maxine's and sat down with Patti she pulled asked me what I did, how old I was and what I did for work and then pulled out about 4 magazines to show me different cuts that may look good on me other than the one I had. However, if I wanted the same old cut of course she would have done that too. The result of this consultation and then an amazing hair cut by Patti, I have been receiving more compliments about my "look" or har if you will than ever in my life. Not only have I been going back ever since this experience but Patti continues to do a beautiful job styling my hair and making me look great. On top of all this, the staff at Maxines and their professionalism in making appointments and making you feel welcome when you arrive is second to none. They always make me feel like I am their only or most important customer. I love the place and would highly recommend it to any man or women of any age. Tim W. read more

I normally don't write yelp reviews, but I had to give my girl Diana props for saving my hair from the God awful mess the previous salon had created. A friend referred me to Maxine's after I was desperately searching for a TRUE Colorist to fix my skunk-like permanent hair color (and trust me when I say only a TRUE COLORIST could fix that hair).... and thats where I found here.. my saving grace!!! She managed to turn my hot mess into HOTNESS!! Everywhere I go I always get complimented on my highlights. I know every time I go in there, I can just relax and let her do her magic and I know it will always come out looking beautiful. To add to it, she is the sweetest person you will ever meet and will make sure that you enjoy the time you sped there. After all, thats what we all look for in a salon - a little relaxing retreat where you come out feeling spoiled and refreshed. She was also gracious enough to introduce me to my stylist Adrianne who I am absolutely in love with!!! This woman can work WONDERS with my thick, course , curly hair. I always tell her she has to have the patience of a Saint to work with this hair. Long story short, this ladies make me look and feel FABULOUS each and every time I go in to seem and now that I have found them I am never letting them go. Remember Diana for color and Adrianne for cut ... trust me you will thank me. read more

Theresa is Absolutely the Best! I have had my hair cut by Theresa Tufte for over a decade and of course followed her when she moved to Maxine's. I really like the classy and friendly atmosphere at Maxine's, which is thankfully missing the unpleasant drama of the once great Trio salon, where she had been at previously. Despite my somewhat perfectionist nature, Theresa has always exceeded my standards. She is a true professional. Recently, I have been dealing with some health challenges that have affected my hair. Theresa went out of her way, spending extra time working with me, not only adjusting my cut, but also giving me some pointers on how to blow dry and style my hair to accentuate the positive. I cannot say enough good things about her. She may at first appear serious - as she is always intent on creating an excellent cut - so a new client might be unaware initially, that she can also be light hearted and fun depending on the conversation. Besides being a great stylist, she has a truly caring personality. I highly recommend her. I started working with Tracy after I followed Theresa to Maxine's. She not only does a great color, she has a very warm, upbeat and kind personality. She really is a joy to go to. I have been delighted with my results. read more

two suggestions for anyone who wants to look and feel like a million bucks: Shelly Aguirre for a cut and Diana Mildice for color. My hair has always been my security blanket. Rain or shine, gain a few pounds or have a bad skin day, i always depend on my hair to keep me feeling confident. This is thanks to these two amazing women. I'll start with Shelly. I love love love her and what she does with my over worked, long, thick hair. I've been following her to different salons for almost 5 years now and I am so happy she is now at Maxine's! Shelly always gives me the perfect cut and unlike a lot other hair dressers i've seen she listens to what I want. Every time I have walked out of an appointment with her I feel like a bombshell and get so many compliments! Diana is an artist. When I told Shelly I wanted to go blonde about a year and a half ago she recommended me to Diana and I never looked back. I am a naturual brunette and Diana has transformed my hair into the best color it has ever been. I cannot even begin to tell you how many people have asked me where I get my color done and time and time again I recommend Diana! Now that they are both working at Maxine's I couldn't be happier! Give them a try and I promise you won't regret it read more

I go to Maxine's all the time for my cuts and occasional color. I had never had a bikini wax there before, and one day gave it a shot. My appointment with Jamie was fantastic. She had me in and out in just a few minutes, perfectly hair free. I tried to follow up with another salon, closer to work. I figured it would be easier to run out on lunch and get it done. OMG, it was the worst ever. The other girl left me with little hickeys, lots of missed hairs, and later, I learned, many ingrown hairs. While waxing, she broke the hairs instead of actually waxing them out. It also took her over half an hour. I was in a full blown sweat by the time it was over. So, embarrassed, I went back to Jamie for some help. (I had let it grow out for a few weeks). She ran right through the wax, just as perfectly as before. She's awesome. There's almost no time for pain as she moves so quickly and efficiently. She also takes the time to make sure there are no stragglers left. LOL. She's great. She's very good at making you feel very comfortable in that often akward situation. I will not attempt to go anywhere else for these kinds of services ever again. Some people, like Jamie, are just pros. Stick with the best. read more

I moved from CA to IL a few years ago & was having trouble finding a colorist who could incorporate blonde highlights without them looking brassy/orangey. I have very dark brown hair. So I've been having low-lights since I was never happy with the blonde highlights. HOWEVER, Diana Mildice just did my color a few days ago & I will be going back. She did a beautiful job. They blend in so naturally that my hair looks kissed by the sun...and in 6 weeks she will add more so that the blonde highlights will gradually blend in more and more and lighten my hair color. I have lots of hair and it's very thick so it is a time consuming process for any colorist to highlight that much hair and make it look as good as it does. I love it. For my haircut I had Theresa and I loved the cut. She did a dry cut, never trimmed my hair once when it was wet. THis was a new experience for me, and turned out to be a good one. She is very precise and takes her time....which makes a beautiful end result. I got tons of compliments from family and friends who loved the beautiful color and new cut. My girlfriend wants to make an appointment there now after seeing my hair. Can't wait to go back :) read more

I was unable to see my hairdresser prior to leaving New York. It would be another 2 weeks before I would be back home. I decided to get a trim while on vacation. I read the Yelp reviews and headed to Maxine. I called for an appointment explaining my hair was naturally curly. I usually wear it straight but on those humid days go natural. I go to an upscale salon in NYC Pierre Michelle. The receptionist booked my appointment with Patricia. I asked her to follow the lines of my cut. She cut my hair and blew it dry. After blowing it dry she texturized it. What was she thinking. You never do this to fine curly hair. I woke up the next morning to find my hair looking like it had been electrified. I called the salon and they booked an appointment with another stylist to fix the disaster she created. I had beautiful hair before she ruined it. The only thing it needed was a trim. By the way they say she is a top stylist. What is the salon thinking. The stylist did the best he could with her mess. It is 10 days later and every time I look in the mirror I curse her. She should stick to blow drying. I learned my lesson to let a stranger touch my hair. read more

I have attempted to write a review for Thor, my talented stylist of almost 10 years, three different times and each time they've come out sounding trite. So attempt number four starts now: Thor is the best stylist I have ever had - and this not an exaggeration because I've had more than a few! If you are looking to radically change your look he is the ONLY person to see. If you bring him a picture, or even a partially-formed idea, he will ask questions and dig deeper to figure out what "look" you are going for, put his spin on it and I promise you will end up with the most fabulous haircut you have ever had. I have been stopped on the street dozens of times - the most recent being last Saturday after he cut some seriously HOT side-swept bangs - by women demanding to know who cuts my hair. He is without a doubt, the best there is. Plus, his head massages are amazing - it's as if he is transferring all his positive peaceful vibes to you and you leave his chair feeling refreshed and fabulous. He is truly an artist and I cannot recommend him enough. He will not disappoint. read more

So Glad I found Theresa and Diana again !! Been seeing them for years at another salon- health issues kept me out of the city - Happy to say I am Back ! Theresa gives the BEST Hair cut in the UNIVERSE - I am NOT kidding - I have tons of hair and have been EVERYWHERE and she gives me cuts that look Good at ANY angle, she takes her time concentrates and I have NEVER been unhappy. I have had many styles over the years -shags, bobs and everything in-between. Diana has colored my hair for years as well and I have ALWAYS been thrilled - I have been a brunette with highlights and now I am a multi- dimensional blond as I am going grey/white. She is Warm and Very easy to communicate with - she advised me about improving my Non- Diana color ( she felt I was "washed out" ) and I was so glad she gave me her HONEST opinion. Diana's color gives a beautiful compliment to Theresa's amazing layering and blending talents. They really are the kind of Hair team that dreams are made of - my hair is magazine worthy....if only they had magical powers over the rest of me !! read more

I am another avid follower of the dynamic duo= Diane and Theresa. Their experience and knowledge is unmatched by any other stylists I have encountered. They are warm, kind, and really funny which makes the appointment something I truly look forward to every time. Years ago, when I worked at Mario Tricoci Salon, I jumped stylists often. Reason being that I could never find someone consistently good to color and style my hair. Once I found Diane and Theresa- the search was over!!!! I feel magnificent every time I walk out of there and ready to take on the world as a confident woman. Recently I had a baby and so I was really looking for a change in my appearance...something to spruce things up bit. Diane really worked hard to create a look that would suit my needs and make me feel really beautiful again. I can't thank these two enough. As long as they are coloring and cutting, I am sure to be a customer. Maxine's should be honored to have such an amazing pair of professionals join there team. Looking forward to seeing them soon! read more

I had a terrific experience at Maxine's last week that I want to share. I live in Florida in a smaller town without a lot of experienced colorists for my blonde highlights. I have chin length fine hair, and alot of it. I was going to Chicago on a business trip and researched the internet for a sophisticated salon. I found Maxine Salon thru online recommendations. I booked two appointments to coincide with my business trip. Rex gave me terrific pastel blond foil highlights and Adrienne did a very nice medium length, layered bob cut. Both of them were very professional and supportive of my "hair" needs, even though I was obviously an out of towner. The front desk staff was also super very courteous when I came in straight from the airport with my bulky suitcases! I recommend this salon highly. I took a chance based on internet research and it worked out well. I'm writing this review to encourage others take the same leap of faith I did. Fortunately its not a long plane ride to Chicago, so I'll be back! read more

Having celebrated one fabulous year here in Chicago I would like to add my own observation about Maxine's and the one and only Bob. My first visit (as a result of some great Yelp reviews) was with my best friend who was visiting from Ft Lauderdale. The salon is modern and very clean and populated with pleasant professional people. But the best part of the story is Bob. He looks like your attorney or accountant complete with dress slacks and nicely starched dress shirt. Very cool and professional. It gets better though. Just when you think it will be your typical high end salon appointment he starts talking to you, like an old friend, weaving in details and gathering facts about you and your hair history in the most amazingly charming way. From there you get a world class hair cut and for the first time in my hair life an unsolicited styling lesson, which by the way works. If you are ever in the Chicago area and want or need a fabulous hair experience run as quickly as you can to Maxine's and Bob. read more

I followed Theresa Tufte and Diana Muldice when they both made the transition from Trio Salon Chicago to Maxine's Chicago. Philip Palmeri, one of Trio's partners, had colored my hair for many years and he was "the man" - the "master" with color. I have hair that is resistant to color and needs a highly skilled colorist. The only other person I trust to color my hair, who is even close to his expertise and then some, is Diana. Both Diana and Theresa are highly skilled, interesting, smart professionals and if that's not enough - they both have hearts of gold. I congratulate Maxine for recognizing the high calibre of perfection and integrity these two classy women will bring to Maxine's Chicago. I've been fortunate to have Theresa cutting and styling my hair for the past 10 years. Her hair cutting technique is truly her own and is awesome; she is an "artiste" - a real perfectionist and is never satisfied with mediocrity. Once again, kudos to Maxine's! read more

Before visiting Chicago, I researched salons through Yelp!! Based on the wonderful reviews, I decided to make an appointment for an entire day of pampering at Maxine! I have battled (literally) my hair all of my 43 years on this planet! My hair is naturally wavy and coarse! But, not today and hopefully NEVER again! The staff recommended that I have a Coppola Keratin treatment and it was truly a life changing experience. While at Maxine, I received the best cut by Theresa I have ever had in my life and trust me I have had some awful haircuts over the years. The most natural color and highlights from Diana, who I am convinced is Michelangelo reincarnated as a woman and a life changing Keratin treatment from Rivkah! You will not be disappointed by this team and the entire staff at Maxine! Go for it! It will be a well deserved treat! My only regret is that I forgot to take advantage of their Yelp special offer for first time clients! read more

Maxine's salon is second to none when it comes to hair styling. I have had such a wonderful experience trusting Patricia to do an excellent job with minimal explanation. I have a great time every time I go in and talk to Patricia on her extensive training and experience. I live close to the Wisconsin border and have had to find alternate routes in order to keep my drive time to 90 minutes but it's worth the time and effort. I am a forty year old professional that enjoys today's hairstyles with an office appropriate look. Patricia has taken the time to consult me on how to use products and techniques to get the looks I like. I have had a chance to watch Patricia work her "magic" on other clients and one can tell that being a stylist is her passion and not just a job. I have and will continue to refer Patricia to all of my friends and family and since she books on the hour, everyone gets the individual attention they deserve. read more

If you're going to Maxine's for a haircut, you absolutely, positively MUST go to Mohammed. I have been going to him for YEARS and will follow him to the ends of the earth for a haircut. I have lived in New York for nearly 10 years and I still make sure to see him when I'm in town because he is not just a stylist, he is truly an ARTIST! Over the years, he has cut my poker straight, fine Asian hair a variety of ways-from very short to long. His haircuts are always flattering to my face, suitable for my hair type, up to date and current. (I know he also specializes in African American hair.) In the nearly 20 years that I've known him, he has NEVER steered me wrong. After trying many stylists in New York, I have yet to find someone in New York whom I trust as much as I trust him-plus I shouldn't have to take out a second mortgage just to get my hair cut! New York has a lot to offer but we don't have Mohammed! read more

A*M*A*Z*I*N*G!!!! I have gone to Danni four times now and she is beyond brilliant with haircuts and blow drys. I sit comfortably in her chair with NO ounce of anxiety. I look amazing every time (to the point people stop me on the street to ask me where I just got my hair done which has happened two times now). Danni actually takes the time to listen and works with you based on your hair and your desired look. Obviously the true test is when you come home and wash it and attempt to style yourself. I experiment with hair tools and no matter what I do straight or curly the look works FLAWLESSLY every time. It grows out beautifully to where if I go back in 2 months or 4 months it doesn't matter, it just looks fabulous. Please note I have gotten my hair done at several places all over the country (Boston, New York, LA) and all over Chicago. I truly rank this place #1 and their work speaks for itself. read more

Rivkah has cut and styled my hair 3 times when we make our annual visit to Chicago. I love the styIe and cut. When I returned to hotel room my husband said "WOW". He took several pictures and we hope my stylist where we live in Florida can match it. I just got home from trip and have received lots of compliments from friends and family. The other positive is that my style is easy for me to take care of. Rivkah is excellent with listening to what you want done with your hair and giving expert advise. Her expertise shines in the finished product. She is also pleasant and enjoyable to talk to. The service at the salon was excellent-I called several weeks before I went to Chicago and receptionist was friendly and efficient. I was greeted warmly upon arrival, and was checked out in same manner. I look forward to my next visit to Chicago, and especially having my hair cut by Rivkah. Claudia P. read more

About a year and a half ago I posted my first negative review ever...about my experience at Maxine. The owner, Tracy, contacted me shortly thereafter and offered me a second appointment on the house. Which was so gracious, I was genuinely touched. However, I was happy with the salon I was using and had to decliine. About a month ago I thought it was time to try something new and wrote to Tracy inquiring if her offer was still good. Astoundingly, she said yes. And, long story short, I had the best experience with both color and cut this time around at Maxine salon. The people were warm, creative and competent, and my hair looks sleek, pretty and polished for the first time in ages. Further, how cool is it that the salon cared enough about one little review to invite me to return for a color porcess...on them? I will be back and encourage others to give it a try. They are worth every penny. read more
