Still terrible, I found out my servers name this time, admittedly from the bill that she didn't drop off. I see my dentist more than I saw my server today. I have never had a more horrible experience than I did here a couple days ago. Rosa was so incredibly rude when I called to ask if I could pick up the items that were missing from my door dash delivery. She was unable to look up my order for some reason and informed me that it must of been picked up at the Wauwatosa location. I pulled up my doordash order that proved that my order was picked up at the Fox Point location. She proceeded to yell at me over the phone and tell me that she couldn't help me and didn't know what to tell me. All I wanted was the bagel, cream cheese and gyro sauce that was missing from my order. Simple items. She refused to help me over the phone so I went in. I showed her my order and that it was fulfilled at their location. She proceeded to tell me (in a raised voice) that what I was showing her told her nothing! She yelled and argued with me in front of a full dining room. I then told her once again that I needed the bagel, cream cheese and gyro sauce that was missing from my order. She finally went back to the kitchen to get my missing items. I was so appalled at her behavior that I asked to speak to the manager. Wendy, wasn't there (it was a Sunday) but supposedly was going to return the next day. I called yesterday to speak to her and was told that she won't be in for another week and there's no assistant manager. How do you run a restaurant without a manager? I was told Gus would return my call; apparently he's covering for the time being but isn't actually a manager. I have yet to hear from him which is why I'm writing this review. Ultimately, the service and food at this establishment has really plummeted since it reopened. This is echoed in several other reviews. Save your time and money. We took our grandkids out for breakfast and found a patron wearing an extremely obscene and very offensive T-shirt and multiple members of the staff was joking about it. This is supposed to be a family restaurant, far from! you may think twice about bringing children here. Food was good but the staff needs to be retrained in common sense. My sister and husband are big fans of Maxfield's. They drive from Brookfield and Wauwatosa. I've been here to have breakfast 4 times. And I would have to say the service really depends on who and when you go. Wait times are rarely over 15 minutes. The seating are booths or tables, I find that the booth table needs adjustment each time as seat or table seems too far or close. They are known for breakfast, I got pancakes, the sausage gravy and biscuits. The gravy tastes out of the can, I know, I make mine from scratch. I've also ordered pigs in a blanket all of the meals are under $10. The orange juice is better than average. I guess that is why it is served in tiny glasses. Food is often hot tasty at times they seem too busy and could use more help for clearing tables and seat people even quicker. Saver tip They have a special every day and usually have two coupons in the clipper magazine. I would like to try the strawberry belgium waffle as it seems to be very good. read more

If you want that classic diner style breakfast, then this place if for you! Seriously. The price is right, the food comes out in literally 10 min or less, and the staff is friendly and hospitable. My boyfriend and I come here once a month (at least.) I always order the Greek omelet which is stuffed with feta cheese and comes with a side of Tzatziki. My boyfriend gets the croissant sandwich. Be ready to wait when trying to get a table at this very popular weekend breakfast/lunch restaurant. Long line today -- people waiting inside and outside, luckily it's not too cold yet. Lately this has been our go-to breakfast diner; the kids like everything here so whenever they don't fuss over their food, that's a plus. Today I had the California Delight chicken sandwich on sourdough bread. Everyone else had breakfast food (Belgian waffles, omelettes and hash brown). Everything was delicious, just as we've come to expect from Maxfields time and again. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. Today, it wasn't as sweet as I've had in the past, but still pretty good. As busy as they were, service was quick and attentive. Coffee was refilled as soon as it got close to the bottom of my cup. Bottom line -- generous portions, good food, fair prices, friendly owners and employees. This is a great diner to have on the North Shore. read more

As a person with Celiac disease for my entire adult life, I am happy more restaurants are aware of gluten-free food. The bad thing lately, however, is a lot of people think it's a fad diet, due to Operah and Myrie Cyrus. I guess for a lot of people it might be, but for people with Celiac disease, it's a serious medical condition. A lot of restaurants that offer gluten-free alternatives seriously gouge you with higher prices, which is just not right! Not so at Maxfield's, however. I don't think the menu even indicates gluten-free pancakes, you have to ask, but they have them, and at the same price as their regular pancakes.This is good news! One of my favorite things in the way-past was to have breakfast with pancakes and fried eggs. I really like to soak up egg yolk with pancake, but I haven't been able to do this for years! Here I can... and it's really inexpensive, too. The food is good, too. The service is great here, they don't have a TV on, fantastic decor (like your aunt and uncle's family room), music is low-key, almost inaudible. A fantastic breakfast spot all around. I only wish they were a little closer to downtown Milwaukee, but what are you gonna do? read more

Service at this restaurant is absolutely terrible. Second time we sat for over 15 minutes in this restaurant at an off time that had many 5 tables occupied. This time I approached hostess and asked for a wait staff person. After sitting for another 10 minutes and no service we left. On our way out the door hostess offered again to find a wait staff person. Apparently the wait staff run the restaurant and can do as they please and wait on guests when they feel like it. I was very disappointed in my experience! Let me first start by saying that we were dining at this restaurant for my son's 14th birthday. This is the restaurant that he chose to get his pancake fix. I ordered the fish sandwich which comes with a side salad. I informed the waitress that I have a severe tomato allergy on more than one occasion. In cutting my salad I noticed that there was tomato juice and seeds covered by lettuce and cucumbers. Clearly the tomatoes were taken off and an attempt was made to cover it up. I said "last name George". She rolled her eyes and said "Oh my God! What is your first name?" in an angry voice. I said, "Really?" She looked at me and said, Yes, really! She was mad! We hit Maxfields as it was close to our hotel. We were seated quickly and the waitress was great. The food came out quickly and it was quite good. I had the hash skillet and it looked reasonable enough but I had trouble finishing it all. Others in my group blintzes, crepes and waffles. The blintzes were filled with cottage cheese which I was surprised with as I expected a sweet cream. The crepes and waffles were very good as was the Hash. Usually I prefer this location over Mayfair but they have been rude the last few times I've been in. I'm not sure if they're understaffed like everyone else but they have just lost a long time customer due to it. I was sitting in the car with my very active toddler waiting on my time to pass...I called inside to see how much longer when the hostess became belligerent saying "I need to come in," they don't add people to the list via phone. I tried explaining to her I was sitting in the car and already on the list, but it wasn't until I walked back in she told me ten mins. Had I not had a screaming toddler and waited 30 mins already I would not have eaten my birthday breakfast here! They will not get any more of my money with rude service. read more

I ordered the club #1 through DoorDash, when my order came I never received my orange juice that comes with the meAl. I immediately called the restaurant just to get put on hold, I'm guessing she sat the phone down because I was still able to hear her and other customers. About 5 mins being on hold I hear the phone disconnect as if someone hung it up. I called back just to get put on hold for about 3 more minutes just for someone to hang the phone up again. At this point I'm very frustrated so I call one last time and finally talk with someone who was very rude inconsiderate and told me if I didn't let her speak she was going to hang up on me which she did. I also ordered over medium eggs and was given over easy. I feel like they are racist and doesn't listen to their customers concerns. This isn't the first time this has happened and I don't know why I continue to support this business. I used to visit Maxfield's regularly then the pandemic hit....and today was the first time I was able to get back there. I was looking forward to a good breakfast, which I got....However, I was appalled by the lack of civility of one of the two hostesses. We walked in and one hostess was busy so she told us to seat ourselves and she'd bring menus. Great...no problem at all. As we began to walk in, we were stopped by the second hostess who literally shouted at us "you have to wait to be seated!" I looked over to the first hostess and indicated that she had said we should seat ourselves. Hostess #2 (the yeller) grabbed menus and pretty much threw them on a table. At that point I told my husband that I wanted to leave as the rudeness was not acceptable. The first hostess obviously heard us and came over to apologize. I voiced my displeasure and asked for the name of the rude hostess so I could enter a complaint with the owner...but the nicer hostess refused to give me the other person's name. She asked if she could get us beverages....no charge to make up for the incident. My husband had coffee and I had orange juice...neither of which were take off the bill as we had been promised. The server we had was good, as was the food, but the hostess provides the first impression for the customer. This woman is unprofessional and rude. I understand that hiring is difficult, but this woman was totally unacceptable. It's a nice place with generally good food....but it will be a very long time before I would consider returning. We just loved this place! The service was above and beyond expected. I'm newly gluten free and our server was well informed and took it upon herself to double check everything. Our glasses were never empty and the order was correct for our entire table of 4. The gluten free pancakes were AMAZING! This was my first time having those anywhere so all future pancakes have a high standard to meet. My only wish was to have real maple syrup without preservatives.
