Great deli sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches have been my favorites, and now they serve full breakfast (omelets, pancakes, etc.) and will start serving wine and beer soon. Stopped in for some lunch, really craving a salad. Ended up getting a garden salad (holy moly the ranch dressing was AMAZING... apparently it's homemade?!) and got a sandwich that was a special- pulled pork. The little pasta salad cup that came with the sandwich looked like I could take it or leave it but man was I glad I tried it. Little hidden surprises between the ranch and the pasta salad cup. I go there to get the delicious chicken salad and bean salad that is displayed in the deli case, made fresh and delicious flavor. I purchased a Charcuterie board fora dinner party we went to, and it was absolutely beautiful. Had the best cuts of meat, fruits, nuts, balsamic glaze. Today I had a gluten-free sandwich from this restaurant and it was by far the worst sandwich I have ever had. The bread was spongy and repulsive and I don't understand how any restaurant would be ok serving it. There was nearly no meat on the sandwich as well and for the price I paid this is a joke. Since moving to the area a few months ago my husband and I passed Max Bibo's numerous times always saying we'd go. Today was the day we committed and I'm glad we did. There aren't many good delis in the area but Max Bibo's makes up for it. I had the Duke Federico's sandwich and lobster and crab bisque and my husband had a chicken cutlet sandwich and it was all delicious. I came here once on my birthday for lunch, so yeah, I like Max Bibos. They're the best deli around. There are many sandwich toppings, different meats and breads. The staff is friendly and the food is good. The vibe is relaxed. I can sit down and take a load off and peek out the window at the Silas Dean highway as cars zoom by. Max Bibo's is not a great recommendation. Stay home, make yourself a delicious sandwich with the toppings on it that you want, and save your entire paycheck. Max is overpriced, and for a frozen chicken cutlet, I'd skip. My chicken noodle soup was lukewarm and I didn't want to go back up because the line was too long at the height of lunch rush. When I ordered, the staff behind the counter quickly took my order and didn't put extra olives as asked, and put half a piece of frozen cutlet(wasn't frozen, just seemed like it came in a package frozen) in my wrap, and then there wasn't even an option to get it toasted. I have been here before, each time trying something new, each time I cry at the notion that I may never find a home at Max Bibo's for a delicious sandwich that I truly crave. I mean, if the sandwiches were overflowing, dripping juices and toppings and I needed to spread napkins on every ounce of my body to keep my work clothes from getting dirty, then heck yes I'd be back and be willing to happily hand them all that money. But alas no, I may try again, try something different altogether again, or... I try The Cove down the street which I hear is a hopping sandwich discoteca! read more

Been here about 4-5 times and have had a pretty good sandwich each time. Most notably, the Mona Lisa was delicious and their hot pastrami was just as good as some NY spots I've been to. In addition to their specialty sandwiches, they also have soups, salads, and other hot food available to go. The dining room is fairly large; all self served though (FYI). I'd definitely recommend this place for lunch if you're in the area. read more

This place is OK. It was REALLY cold inside, and VERY LOUD!! I had the 'special' chicken cutlet, cheddar, bacon LT with ranch dressing on multigrain bread. The special was advertised with a 'side salad' for $7.99. My salad consisted of 1/2 and artichoke heart and 2 bites of carrot with a very recognizable bottled dressing. The chicken was as dry as a bone, and tasteless! We also had liverwurst with horseradish sauce, brown mustard L and O. Having worked in a deli, and made quite a few sandwiches, Liverwurst is not something you "load up" on. There was easily 1/2 a pound of meat.... if it was roast beef... yes, sure... liverwurst.. not so much. So for the 2 sandwiches and 2 bottles of water it was $21.00! When I go to the same place often, I usually try to sample everything on the menu. Business takes me to the street where Max Bibo's is located. For someone who likes nonmeat alternatives (I save my meat cravings for the Carnegie Deli and Korean barbecue), I have found my Eureka moments at Max Bibo's Deli. The grilled vegetable sandwich is the best I have had anywhere. With balsamic vinegar added, it is a great combination of vegetables that bursts with flavor. The breaded eggplant with provolone cheese sandwich is heaven on earth. I have tried the hot pastrami and it is quite good for a deli in Connecticut. But the two sandwiches I have described above are the real reason for frequenting Max Bibo's often. read more

After reading Matt H's review I was skeptical, but went and found it to be opposite of his review... The place is clean and employees great. I ordered a Tuna salad, not hard to mess up.. But it was good, not swamped with mayo. Interesting, Matt states this place ruined his Sunday... they are closed on Sunday, so perhaps Matt is a competitor down the street? I hate fake posts... I've eaten in and also ordered catering from Max Bibo's and I'm never disappointed. Their sandwiches are always made fresh with a ton of meat so although their prices are a little high, you are definitely getting a good serving size. This is also a huge place so there's plenty of seating and the decor makes you feel as if you're in someone's home :) I sat and enjoyed my sandwich in a cute little wicker chair by the window in the sun next to some flowers. read more

However, I went there today and noticed that the owner/manager had a cap on that was full of animal hair(cat or dog) and her uniform shirt had lots of hair stuck on it also. This is a big no no in the food industry. I would recommend to this manager to ensure that this never happens again and to also inspect her employees garments for this also... Went here for the first time this morning since working here in high school about 10 or 11 years ago! Got a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel and although it was slightly pricy ($5.31 including tax), it was well worth it. You can't really get a sandwich at DD for less than $5 and I'd rather pay a little more for real eggs, crispy bacon, and real cheese. I've lived outside of Hartford for 10 years and just recently found this deli south of Hartford. I should get out more often. Max Bibo is very solid with lots of choices from salads to soups, hot entrees to specialty sandwiches. Added bonus is that the place is pretty big and can accommodate a busy lunch crowd. People seemed very friendly, like they had been there for years. Would definitely recommend for a casual business lunch. read more

This isn't the best place to get sandwiches anywhere in Hartford County. This is the best place to get sandwiches in Connecticut. It might possibly be the best place to get sandwiches in the Northeast. Whenever I am in town and make sure to go by this place to get either their tuna fish sandwich or one of their specialty roast beef sandwiches or turkey sandwiches loaded with toppings with a terrific horseradish mustard on top. I live less than 5 minutes from this place and finally got here after 5 years...Basically because Max Bibo's is a place for your weekday, business lunch crowd and I do not work where I live (unfortunately). Very limited hours around dinner and weekends from what I can tell. Showed up close to 1PM on a Thursday and the place was hopping! Parking lot was fuller than I have ever seen it and the seating area was full of folks. Always wondered how this place stayed in business when it was never open and now I know. This is your standard deli...a little upscale perhaps. You will make your way to the back of the store and try to figure out where you should stand in the mob of folks who are congregating around the deli counters for ordering. If I had one knock on this place, it would be to put a sign or 2 up to organize your lunch crowd better. Can be frustrating when you're waiting 10-15 minutes to place an order and someone walks up and somehow is attended to immediately...I guess my tip would be to be aggressively polite in getting your order in. After that, the place is great. You're coming here for deli sandwiches and they don't disappoint. Quality deli meats and cheeses (Boar's Head!) and fresh produce and breads. You can make the sandwich however you would like or they have some pre-determined options with fun names (ex. The 'Mona Lisa Smile'). They pile on the meats and cheeses and serve it up with a fresh dill pickle slice. You won't go home hungry. Deli cases also showcase salads and other catering focused options if you are hosting a party. Most selections are Italian focused. Place itself is very bright and clean. This isn't going to be a fine dining experience, but pleasant and appropriate for a mid-day sandwich and to get out of the office. Definitely a recommend. Max Bibo's is one block from my house, and one mile from work, so I would say I stop in once a week- for lunch, coffee, breakfast, etc. In the summer I enjoy walking down to get sandwiches or a snack. I usually go for their veggie roll up/wrap, or a salad and soup. I had the corn chowder on Monday and it was very tasty! They also have an excellent breakfast special which includes a bagel and coffee for I THINK around $2.50... haven't gotten in a while but I remember being amazed at how cheap it was. I really like how fresh everything is, with all the prepared salads rotating daily and different soups often. The only thing I get confused about is the ordering system... never really sure who I should be ordering from! But everyone is very friendly so it all works out. read more

This really is my favorite place to get lunch when I'm in Wethersfield , as I work at a doctors office on the Silas Deane and am a deli lover... But I find myself passing this place up more often than I would like because it's so freaking expensive. I think for almost an 8 dollar salad some of them should definitely also have chicken on them. And the sandwiches are great but again I just think they're so pricey. Staff is friendly though, I love when the med reps order us lunch from there, get to enjoy it And not have to break the bank winnnn!
