    Half Cappicola Sandwich
    Jason P.

Since 1969, Steve's Place in Newington has been serving food such as sandwiches and pasta to locals, and it's one of the most popular independent sandwich shops in the area. Living nearby, I've been to Steve's a few times over the years, but I've lost track of it in recent times. Yelp Friend Elisa F recently reviewed her family's long time favorite - Steve's half cappicola grinder. Her review and picture of a grinder with my preferred ratio of meat to fresh vegetables captured my attention. By phone this week, I ordered a half cappicola with lettuce, tomatoes, provolone, seasoning and mayo for lunch. It was ready when I arrived and I ate it in the small outside area. "Half" is a relative term. This half was fifty percent of a giant. It had high quality good salty cappicola, great tasting juicy vegetables and a fresh grinder roll. I'm all about sandwiches with high quality ingredients in proportion to the other ingredients, and this fit the bill. Nothing fancy. Just well executed. Four Stars for a very well executed sandwich with quality ingredients and good service.

This was my favorite sandwich shop when they had a second location in Rocky Hill! Since that's been closed, I've ventured to their original Newington location a few times. It's very similar, inside decor & all. Definitely an old school sandwich shop vibe! Steve's was actually my grandfather's favorite sandwich shop and he would bring me a "half cappy" whenever he would visit. Since then, that's been my favorite sandwich! Piled with lots of capicola, provolone, lettuce, tomato and oil & vinegar - a classic!

So far I've had the Turkey grinder. Corned beef breakfast special and a bacon egg and cheese. Everything has been truly delicious and the staff is so kind!

    Chicken Cutlet Sandwich

Absolute joke of a sandwich. Don't order here if you want any actual chicken! There are better restaurants on the same street. Used to order Steve's Place all the time and have been disappointed every time in the last year. No value and not the best taste.

Wanted a quick bite and looked up Yelp. Thank you Yelpers, you never fail me. What a gem of a place this is. Named so impressive- Steve's place. This is truly a place which I wish was in my street, where I can be proud to say as my hangout spot. Excellent service. Redsox fans.Amazing food. What' else do you need? Would visit here if I'm in town

It's not trying too hard, and that's exactly why it works. Feels like a spot where regulars post up, sip coffee, and take their time. No rush, no nonsense, ust good energy. And then the sandwich shows up... and flips the script. This isn't breakfast. This is a stacked, unapologetic morning statement. The Overloaded Egg Sando Griddled brioche bun, soft, buttery, just enough toast to hold things together (barely). Under that, a crispy hash brown doing the heavy lifting, adding crunch and soaking up all the goodness. Sausage brings that savory backbone, while the spinach scrambled eggs stay fluffy and rich. Then you get that creamy hit from the smashed avocado, melted smoked gouda layering in a subtle smokiness, and finally... the gochujang aioli. That aioli is the move. Sweet heat, a little funk, a little tang, cuts right through the richness and keeps every bite from getting too heavy. And let's be honest... Had to unhinge my jaw like a snake just to take the first bite. This thing is messy, stacked, and fully committed to the cause. Not first-date food. Not "eat it in the car" food. This is sit-down, take-a-minute, maybe-need-a-nap-after kind of food. The best part? The space balances it perfectly. Big, bold sandwich... calm, easygoing room. That's a combo I'll go back for every time.

One of the people I was dining with though had meat on only a small portion of his sub which was so strange since my sub was so good! I don't think DiBella's does this. But, given that it is a restaurant that serves many more customers than I do (#FourMouths at home), I can understand that they favor efficiency for quality in some light. I ordered a chicken caesar salad through their app (which is quite basic, might I add). I was elated to see that theirs comes with bacon by default -- though nowhere did it say that it included spinach, either by default or as an option. Keep this in mind. I was in walking distance, so I walked over and was happy to see that my order was ready by the pickup counter. The staff -- who seemed very nice -- directed me over. I grabbed my bag, a fork, and was on my way. I get to where I was and open up the bowl... there's spoiled lettuce alllllll over the place. In the picture is about 98% of the lettuce I picked out that was either soft or pink/red. This is absolutely unacceptable in my book (of course, because my standards are a little higher than a restaurant that serves probably hundreds of folks a day). I will say, however, that the chicken was alright and the bacon was... well, crispier than the lettuce. It was real good. I am not angry, and I'm not exactly disappointed, but my lunch was a waste of $12 or however much it was. Would I try DiBella's again? Yes, but I'll stick to making my own salads. Lmao.

You expect, like the other establishments in the plaza, to find a small cafe style restaurant. When you walk in, you are surprised with fun decor and spacious dining area. Everyone who has gone with me says the same thing "I would never expect it to look like this based on the outside." As for food, they have the Best Reuben sandwich in Rocky Hill. Fries are crispy and price on point. Every meal I've had there has been great! The only downside is table service during lunch is very slow. So make sure you have a full hour to burn if you go for lunch.

Secondly, the latte, cocktail & mocktail options are amazing, along with the many many options of food. I've heard that food from restaurants with large menus are mediocre...this DOES NOT apply here. My party of 2 tried breakfast & lunch options. Both were fresh & so flavorful, especially that homemade syrup I had with the French Egg Holes & Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (3). The home fries came out & were seasoned to perfection. Also, not 1 hard potato to be found. The over medium egg in my thick french toast was actually medium! And they gave me the wholes that were cut from the center of the bread. The pancakes were so fluffy & the icing delish. Tasted exactly like a cinnamon roll. We also ordered 2 different mimosas. The cranberry & the classic. Both were made crispy cold, with quality juices & came garnished. The Salted Cinnamon Mocha Latte, was velvet. It wasn't overly sweet, it wasn't watery or overly bold. I was surprised about how tall the cup was...I drank all of it. It wasn't served scorching hot, so I could sip right away. The Greek Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup was lovely. Typically, soup is watery & looks like it was the last bits, but this had chunky meat, the broth had flavor with hints of lemon. You could see the herbs. This didn't scream, I'm from a can at all. The service was also nice & the waitresses didn't mind that we couldn't make our decisions right away. She & her counterpart offered suggestions & were very kind with checking on us. At the end of the meal, we couldn't help but order some take home from the lunch menu for later. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
