I've been staying at the Maurice AirBnB for 3 nights and it's been wonderful! The "green room" I'm in is very French-country charming and the restaurant is to die for!!! Had the "spicy scallops roll", the "lump crab cake", and tasted the lobster roll, chicken cordon bleu and pork belly. Topped it off with a dirty martini, their signature "Maurice Mule" and some local Viognier. Sean "Maurice" (the owner) is lovely as well as his staff. Such a great spot with great food, great ambiance, great cocktails. We visit the ESVA every year to see family and decided to do a date night here as a treat. The crab stuffed flounder and paella were delicious. The grapefruit cocktail was refreshing and not too sweet. Parking can be a challenge, but Maurice was there to point us to extra parking across the street. We will definitely be making dinner here part of our annual vacation tradition. read more

I made reservations for last night at 7 PM. When I arrived, no one was there to greet us. Finally someone said, "someone will be with you". After another five minutes someone else did arrive and asked if we had a reservation. I told her yes and she said that we were not on the reservation list. She conferred with the person who made our reservation, and told us that we would have to wait 15 minutes because they had no reservation under my name. First visit this week. The food was outstanding. The presentation was superb. The owner came over to talk to us and that was such a nice touch. However, it was tough to distinguish the waitstaff from any of the other customers. I know things are a bit more relaxed on the lower Eastern Shore, but the linen tablecloths and napkins gave a "finer" dining experience impression. Additionally, it took three tries to get our bill correctly, and two requests for an additional beverage. All that being said, I will DEFINITELY GO BACK. Had a take-out of sushi...The worst! All rolls were dry without any souces over them No flavor what so ever to anything. Soy souce was the only souce in the container.....The hostess had a major attitude when I brought it back. We had dined there before...many times....but will not return. Every year we stay at The Inn at Onancock and our host Kim and Matt are like family. This year Kim suggested we try the newest food fair in the village, Maurice('s). I don't know why this little hidden village which pretty much closes down after labor day has some of the finest chefs in a bunch of randomly placed eateries, but they sure do. This town is like a chef mecca. The newest addition MAIRICE with no S is no exception tot he rule we have found... all is great at Onancock. We had Pork Bellies and fusion French and Thai egg roll, along with the thickest juiciest park chop one could ever expect. My wife and I shared our plate and thank goodness we did, with much remaining after. Portions are massive but the flavors are exquisite. Overall, two appetizers, some bottled water, and a main entree to die for, all for under $40. Prices aside. This is a wonderful eaterily withbfresh food, a rotating wonderful menu, and staff that cares. The atmosphere is cozy and subtle. We will return. read more

Came here for some dinner with friends. Was not expecting anything more than sushi, to my surprise there was plenty to choose from on the starters menu the salads menu the soup menu as well as the dinner entrée menu. The service was fantastic and it is very obvious everything is made fresh. They have a special dessert/Baker. I ordered the lobster roll and the eggrolls! Both were amazing. This spot was a gem that we discovered in a sleepy little small town we stayed in after hang gliding. The bar had some fun cocktails and was willing to adjust based on our desires as well. The food was delicious and the service was great as well. We enjoyed the gazpacho type soup to start, and then enjoyed both the lobster pad thai (excellent display as well!) and the sea bass. I never did eat there, so I can't review the food. Gorgeous inside. Fully packed. Couldn't get in. Menu looked ok, but was told it changes weekly. Outdoor atmosphere was perfect and just what our group needed. Relaxed and beautiful setting yet elegant. We started with one of the recommended special appetizers - the fiery flounder roll and it did not disappoint, we also had the Arab unity with broken tomato sauce and they were scrumptious. Our entrees included the double cut pork chop, steak special, Lobster w/pad Thai, and Virginia stuffed flounder. The flavorings were perfect and the dishes were complex and well composed. The steak dinner was a touch under the medium rare as ordered, but just a touch. The pork was just a touch overcooked but still delightful. The pad Thai could have been dressed a little more for my liking but that's personal preference. We had the ginger peachy drink specials, rose sea breeze and a perfectly concocted cosmopolitan- all fabulous. Our waitress, Angie was a pure pleasure, knowledgeable, friendly very accommodating and overall a joy - a definite asset. We very much look forward to visiting Maurice in the future. read more

I am hooked! This place had amazing food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. My husband and I had the caprese salad, jumbo shrimp cocktail, seared scallops and key lime pie. I drank 2 ruby rose martinis-delicious, just like everything else. We were celebrating my 40th and I would consider it a perfect place for a romantic (aka kid free) evening. We came over from Virginia Beach for a Quick weekend getaway, and I would totally make another trip over the Bay Bridge Tunnel for their food. Maurice also has a B&B in where we stayed for a night. We ordered pork belly and it was really hard to eat. Maybe 4 bites of meat and the rest was inedible fat. I'm surprised it left the kitchen. We make pork belly all the time and I would never serve that. We ordered ceasar salad and they waiter came over about 15 minutes later to tell us he's out of romaine letttuce but can use spinach instead. I can't eat raw spinach...ew. The paella was boring. Oh my! What a great place! We came for dinner while staying in nearby Wachapreague. We had a table for 4 outside and the seating area was beautiful with the water fountain in the center and all the cute seating for two around the edge of the fountain. Another member of our group has already given her review, but I wanted to add another. Angie was an excellent server and very knowledgeable. Pre-dinner drinks were amazing. Our appetizers of the fiery flounder roll, which could have been a complete meal, and arancini were delicious. The broken tomato sauce for the arancini was one of the best I've had and I could have eaten many more than what came in the order! My husband loved his stuffed flounder entree which came with a blood orange and truffle emulsion, arugula, carrots and arancini in a parmesan cheese cup. I ordered the steak special for the day which was a T-bone, which was almost the size of the plate, with truffle butter. The chef was very accommodating to change the horseradish (personally don't like it) cheddar mashed potatoes and asparagus to the coconut pineapple risotto and sauteed green beans. My medium rare came out just a touch under the medium rare for me, again just a personal preference and just a touch, but was still amazing. The portions were generous and I love that I have leftovers to enjoy the meal again. The pork chop our friend ordered was also a very generous size that included a jicama slaw on top that also came with the coconut pineapple risotto. The last meal ordered was the lobster tail topped with crab imperial and came with pad thai noodles. The flavor of the pad thai noodles was delicious. We all enjoyed finding this great gem and hope to visit again in the future. read more

The stay at Maurice was very disappointing. When we arrived, the key to our room could not be found. Note, the heat index was 105+. After looking for the key for approx 20 minutes to no avail, we were told by the owner that we were booked in another room. This was an obvious lie, as we were told they were fully booked when I asked if another room was available! We waited another 45 minutes before the "new" room was cleaned. Meanwhile we were delayed from showering to attend a group event. The room was clean when we finally got in. The next morning there was no staff available for checkout and we had no way to arrange transportation to the wharf to board our boat for departure. I finally flagged down a stranger that was nice to give us a ride. No taxi or Uber available. I left a message for Sean, the owner, when we left to call me to settle up since we were never actually checked in. When we settled, there was no apology for the poor service or any offer to discount the rate. Also, no breakfast available at the restaurant. We won't be going back. Other folks in our group had delightful experiences at other B&Bs in town. I'd avoid Maurice. read more
